Today was one of my lowest mental health day I have had in two years. Your enthusiasm and joy was the difference maker. You never know what sharing your adventures can do. Subscribed and looking forward to watching more videos.
I've been putting trips like this off for too many years. At almost 59 now, i have no excuses anymore. Time to start living! Thanks for sharing your trip and motivating!
@@davidlineberry622 I have property in mid Lake County that I'm planning on retirement on within the next 2-5 years. I plan on spending a lot of time on the river when that happens.
I have been doing trips for the past few years and I am 61. Do it while you still can. People get old and set in their ways and just want to stay home and watch TV.
I was a Michigan Conservation Officer and the Manistee River and Hodenpyle Backwaters were in my patrol area, spent many hours patrolling those waters, your video brought many great memories.
I'm originally from Munising> I go back up north for a few weeks every fall, but now I live in Florida. I'm 80 and have been trying to get my wife to move back for 30 years. If you are an adventure-loving Michigander don't fall for the "Winters are too cold B.S" It's not a wise trade-off for 100-degree summers with 100% humidity and storms that blow your house away. I love the Lake Superior surf fishing videos. I'm an avid fisherman and I don't recall anyone fishing from Superior's shore other than myself 40 years ago. Manistee is my second choice for a place to live and play in Michigan. That area is possibly the best place to raise a family and build a life in Michigan. I'd love to see a complete float of the Escanaba or the Tahquamenon rivers. They both traverse through some beautiful country and are excellent fishing. Your enthusiasm and practical bush knowledge are informative, infectious, and light-hearted, however; I can't watch your videos before meals. I tend to take your enthusiasm to the table. Thanks for the seat in the canoe and by the fireside.
I am from iron county (iron river) I left to Green Bay as soon as I could drive I found myself really missing everything home has to offer like the outdoors I packed all my stuff up 2 years ago and came back haven’t had a complaint yet!
My wife and I are both 33. We live just south of Grand Rapids. We have been looking at property in the U.P. to move to. I think it would be better to raise my girls up there, with a more modest lifestyle. Every time I go over the bridge, I don't want to come back.
As a Muskegon born Michigander whose spent over 60 years exploring the western side of Michigan, I can't tell how amazing it is to have discovered your UA-cam channel recently. Boy do I have stories about this particular stretch of river. Thanks man.
I’m a former downstate Michigander who’s been living in Montana for the last 10 years. This makes me so nostalgic for up north rivers. There’s just Something about it that makes me want to go back.
Your energy is priceless, doggo has the best friend ever when you chat to the camera with such intensity. Got me looking for a local river to paddle. Well done.
BRO... you need to make this a whole stand alone series of conquering the rivers in our beautiful state of Michigan. Youre an absolute natural man! i would love to go on a trip with you!
In my neck of the wooda! Yay! Thanks for visiting. The beggining of the big manistee I found by fredrick. The flowing river grass was exceedingly beautiful ..as trouts are floatng in it also.. ;-)
When I do a float trip like this I find it's helpful to have an anchor set up that sits behind me for if I wanna stop and take a couple of casts. Finish up and lift the anchor and keep drifting.
Dude, I love your channel so much. Your love and excitement for this really shines through the dark times. You’ve inspired me to do the same here in NJ/PA. Def gotta get on this lifestyle
You know this but here it is. "the life you are now living is not a dress rehearsal for your next, so grab up all of the gusto you can as you only go around once". Your adventures prove this point. Keep paddling forward.
Love your channels / adventures. Watched your manistee and porkies adventures this week and enjoyed both immensely. been to both Manistee and Porkies with my son's Scout troop and grew up fishing the platte, betsie and manistee. God's country for sure
Look forward to your videos every week.. great stuff.. I’m a northern Michigan native living in WV, PA for the last 15 years. Don’t get to get back much, so you’re adventures take me back to when I was your age.. good job man! Oliver is awesome!
I'm from Grand rapids Michigan love canoeing the Manistee river and the muskegon. I've kayaked from Houghton lake Greensburg damn all the way to the muskegon three weeks of pure fun and adventure
As someone who used to camp and fish in northern Michigan, this video brings back so many fond memories. The connection to places like Munising and Manistee is strong, and it's wonderful to see these areas being appreciated and enjoyed by others
People will hate you at the same time they are loving you. The adventure you just took us, the viewers on was such a visually exciting and well editited movie it made me feel like I was on the canoe with you. Your vision of how adventure should be shared is next level. Keep going strong. YOU ROCK !!!
WOW that was such a awesome adventure love watching your videos there no pampering it's all the real deal keep them coming I'm always looking and waiting for them. Useing muscles you normally don't use I'll bet they were hurting.
Awesome!!! The wife and I have just started taking short "adventures" like this. End of June, we (and Potatoes...our golden) canoed from Hodenpyl to Tippy. Camped at the first site we came to on the lake/river mouth. 25mph headwind, all 6 miles of Tippy pond! We just got back from a long weekend, on Tippy. Put the boat in and found a spot to camp. Walleye are deep, in there! Pulled 3 out of 40ft. We've been regulars at Coho Bend for 20 years. My grandparents started out there in the late 70's-early 80's...we've had the same spot for over 40 years!
What an adventure you had! I watched the whole thing and am amazed not only with the adventure, but with the amount of planning you had to do to make this a reality. I'm glad your arm is better. I really love all of your videos, so just keep doing what brings you joy!
Living in N.Ont, and heading over to Mich all the time I've always wondered about multi day paddle routes...I guess I always imagined all the waterfront would be built up on or private property. Great to see this stretch exists...cool adventure, nice brown!
Absolutely awesome. Beautiful footage, livin my dream. I'm hooked on his videos. A man and his dog livin the max life. Stay in the boat Ollie. Love it ❗️👍
It's SO exciting to float onto lake Michigan and round that pier point! I did greenville to grand haven in 3 days and rounding that pier was a tear jerker!
New subscriber here! Love you and Ollie's adventures and enthusiasm. Love fly fishing and the Great Outdoors! Just finished 126 days living in a 2-person tent in Michigan and hunkered down in a small cabin till Spring watching your vids! Great video. Stay safe! Marine Corps veteran.
Kyle! It was so exciting you did this! I have fished from ccc to 131 for 45 plus years. I have been trying to purchase something in that stretch for many years, its tough. I can't believe I haven't run into you in Fife area. You do great work, keep it up, might hire you someday.
If you find a flat rock you can rub the top of a can back and forth on it and it should wear down the steel so the lid can be popped off…love the videos..rock on brother!
Use too camp on the banks of the Manistee river years ago before the state decided to block off the access areas. Also use to fish brookies on some of the streams up untill a few years ago when got into a argument with a city slicker on who owns the water. Prick fenced off the stream i fished for 20 years with my dad.
This trip was so awesome I watched it twice in 2 weeks. I really like this style of video (on the river), you could do fewer miles and fish more for my liking. Actually, now I want to do part of this trip this coming fall as a cast and blast weekend.
Get an anchor system rigged up in order to drop when you hook a big fish. Will save you from losing some hogs and getting into some sticky situations while fighting them, esp. in faster water. I do a lot of similar fishing for trout and bass out of a yak and paddle board.
Wow that was awesome to see! We've been testing the waters here in Idaho having a blast overnighting the south fork of snake. If you ever make it this way, you'd enjoy it!
@ 1:08 *pulls out a few sticks of TNT...* Great adventure as always. I've been camping on the backwaters of Tippy since the late 70's and absolutely love that area.
Great . Much enjoyed your documentary, your journey with your 4 legged buddy. I wish I was a younger man. Sure would like to try that. Liked your energy. Loved your and dog. Got a bit hungry watching you cook your meals. Well done young man.
Such a nice adventure. Watched two of your travels this evening! A good trip would be the Stergeon River in the upper. Did a long stretch many years ago and was spectacular. Pike and smallmouth were plenty!
insta launch campgrounds was a very cool place as kid growing up, had many trips to that place with so many family friends, alot of those folks are no longer here with us in the flesh,i remember fishing under that old train tressell
Wow what an accomplishment!! My folks have a place on Tippy Dam Rd right by the dam, I have fished up and down that river from Tippy to the mouth in my river boat but have never considered floating the whole stretch.. I don't think most people understand how far that is and that was only a 1/4 of your trip!!! Hats off to you brother.. Drone footage rising above the fog was truly the best shot I think I've seen!! Thank you for sharing..
Nice trip! I’ve started in the Grayling area and gone the opposite way on the Au Sable out to Lake Huron. You should do that next. It was a lot of fun!
