I'd love a "clean" battery mod for the DS. Maybe a 3D printed back case replacement to house more/ a larger battery. I'd be totally cool making my DSi a little thicker if it tripled the battery life. I think there was actually a product for the 3DS like that. You take the original battery out, and the new one clips on the back of the case.
The reason ChatGPT recommended getting the batteries to the same charge level is because they will all wind up charging themselves off one another until they're equivalent in charge. If you have a drastic difference (say 4.2V to something like 2.5V), and you don't have some sort of charging circuitry (a BMS/batter management service) as a middle ground to regulate it, you risk a massive change in voltage which could overheat the battery and cause all sorts of mayhem. You'll see this balancing step used a lot in people's DIY project like EV car conversions or the guy who made an e-bike battery from discard vape batteries a while ago. As someone else mentioned, a battery is a battery. There's no reason to use just DS batteries for the intended outcome. I would just buy a decent Li-ion battery from a reputable source that matches the required voltage and use that. I'm almost positive that the charging circuit for the DS Line is on the motherboard, not the battery. So you probably wouldn't need a charging circuit. Just a ~5V battery and case to put it in.
Thanks for the explanation! That does make sense, and using a bigger lithium battery would probably be better and safer to implement. I just happened to have 7 spare DS batteries lying around.
There's really no reason to use DS batteries for this. Batteries are batteries as long as they meet the voltage and drain spec and can be recharged. Something cheap off Aliexpress would have been a better idea. And youre lucky you didn't blow them up soldering to them like that.
Yeah, surprisingly it actually does charge and operate fine with the setup. I was half expecting it to not charge or start overheating the second I turned it on but so far so good :)

theres a reason why the no fly list is mostly electrical engineers

I'm glad he didn't turn his DS into a bomb.

The fbi is very not interested in this video
People don't understand about series and parallel it's like ohm's on speakers
You’re telling me this guy only has 35 subs?
Bro how are you so underrated
i was not expecting that voice from that face lol
cool little video tho
Finally more than 30 hour of battery life :D

@ lmao I get that. I have numerous spares of different models of console batteries and Li-ions I keeps around. Use what ya got. That’s basically free.

you should keep the "i asked chat gpt" part to yourself tbqh
yep! looked like a cool video but i'm out!
i cant tell if its a joke and he just googled it or if he actually used chatgpt
Improvised Explosive DS
This might sound like a dumb question but is the battery management in the ds good enough to make this work when you try to charge it?

can you do this with my 3ds thanks
very underrated, amazing
Would probably be more useful on a 3DS since you actually need to charge it
850mah really is not a lot
but 2550 is quite a lot better
Brain rot ….
Interesting...
Based
not cool man
REPORTED!!!!!! just kidding!! LOL!!!!!
