  • I know these types of videos are not popular, but they are, nevertheless, important for one simple purpose:
The lies about EVs will spread round the entire world while the truth is still pulling on its boots!
This video debunks these five misconceptions...
    1) Traction Battery Failures and Costs
    2) EVs Do Not Save You Month in the Long Term
    3) Not Enough Chargers for Road Trips
    4) EVs Cost Too Much
    5) EVs Weigh Too Much
The facts speak for themselves and anyone who can do basic math can understand! EVs are less expensive to own and operate. Period!
I will continue to wear my hip-waders as I trek my way through the mire and muck created and paid for by the Fossil Fuel Cartels.

EVs are nice *where home charging is possible*. A lot of people live in apartments without garages or outdoor outlets. In some parts of the country (where I live for example) most employers don’t provide charging for their employees.
In my case, if I had an EV, I’d not be able to charge either at home or at work and would have to drive 50-75 miles from either location to even find a DC charger. The best I can do for the environment is a hybrid with regenerative breaking so that the gasoline lasts longer. It’s nice that you have that luxury. But it’s not as common as you might think.

Jim, regarding your point about the sticker price of EVs compared to ICE vehicles, I believe that EVs should be cheaper to manufacture due to fewer complex parts and decreasing battery costs. For example, China's BYD can produce a quality EV comparable to the Chevy Bolt 1LT for around $8,000. However, the 100% tariff on Chinese vehicles and parts significantly increases the sticker price of EVs in the USA. Meanwhile, the rest of the world is already buying EVs that are better and more affordable than ICE vehicles.
I acknowledge that the Chinese government injected billions into BYD, but the U.S. government has also provided substantial support and billions in subsidies to gas-few EV manufacturers. However, BYD is currently able to produce affordable EVs without relying on government subsidies.

"China's BYD can produce a quality EV comparable to the Chevy Bolt 1LT for around $8,000." Actually no. This thing is by far not comparable to the Chevy Bolt. Maybe to the Dacia Spring with which you do not ever want to drive faster than 80 km/h or 55 mph. I would not enter such cars. They are called childrens sarcophaguses for a reason.

@@wolfgangpreier9160 Wolf, I wish you were right, but your data is 15 years out of date. As of 2024, BYD EVs are superior in quality, technology compared to U.S. and German EVs. BYD vehicles are better and more affordable than Tesla; in fact, some Teslas use safer batteries and technology manufactured by BYD.
Consider this reasoning: our government imposes a 100% import tariff on Chinese vehicles because U.S. consumers would purchase the more affordable, high-quality Chinese vehicles, which would decimate the U.S. vehicle manufacturing industry. If you were right there wouldn't be any import tarif.
I was in Spain and drove some BYD EVs. My beloved 2023 Chevy Bolt Premium feels like a dinosaur compared to BYD EVs.

In florida right now - BEVs are catching fire because the hurricaine is flooding cars that have tiny bits of unknown damage allowing salt water to get in. The battery catches fire; two homes also burnt down when their BEVs caught fire in the garage - oh minor little details - lets now worry about your car and home burning down ..could that be a cost?

The thing is, battery prices have fallen 80% in the past 10 years, charging speeds increased 300%, and energy density improves by 5-10% per year, and they number CONTINUE to get better. Warranty - The Model 3 is only 4 years 50k for general and 8/100,000 for the battery and motors. If you drive 20k a year its only good for 5 years; if you drive 100k a year like the Uber Driver here on UA-cam - it won't even last 1 year. So effectively your warranty is dead then. A guy here on UA-cam bought a Model 3 because he was hoping that would pay off compared to a Camry. His car barely exceeded 100,000 miles when the battery went dead; Tesla wouldn't give him a break; he had to pay over 20K for a new one. In that distance a Y will need to charge twice near 2 hours at a fast charger; and hours at home or at a slow charger. Is your time worth anything? What if this is a business vehicle and you are now paying a professional to sit on his ass? The cost of charging varies wildly depending if you charge at home slowly or at a fast charger in part because the home charge doesn't inclue road taxes in Washington State BEVs now have to pay a special $750 a year road tax when they have their registration renewed to make up for that. BEVs have horrible resale; so total cost of ownership currently is extreemly poor. The only thing that even gets These cars close in cost is the Federal incentive - if you have the income range that qualifies; if the government stops these incentives - then they aren't comparable at all; BEVs cost more and are a lot of trouble.

You can say they are not of the same class - but what is th Y's class - sit on your rear charging class? Is that luxury where you are from? So my other points are not fair? BS? If you were paying someone to work for you and you had to send them to work Portland today to do a 4 hour job, origin Seattle. Google says that is 174 miles and takes 3:15 to get there. Say this person makes $100 per hour. In the Prius he'll be there - 3.25 hours; work 4 hours return3.25 hours total 10.5 hours. The same trip in the Y will take at least 1 hour and probably 2 to charge depending on how fully charged it started out. Thats $100-200 per job per day extra.. plus the fast charging is at $.0.28 cents per Kwh Not 9 cents like charging at home at night - assuming your worker can find a fast charger that is available. Washington State now has a $750 charge every year for BEV owners for them to pay their road taxes. Google it; so even if you do all your charging at home; you got to pay that. Even if you don't have such a tax yet in your state; if BEVs get more numerous and it starts cutting into their revenue; they will do the same thing.

I too own a Prius and a RAV4, definitely not cheaper to maintain or drive. Charging at home is even cheaper than on the road, 27 cents kWh. Not sure why the anti EV horde assumes Tesla owners don’t own or have owned ICE vehicles. Get w the program, you’re just repeating the same old outdated propaganda.
And who drives 600mi nonstop ?

Price parity is only happening because of tax credits and incentives. A 2024 Tesla Model 3 with taxes is $54k ( not including federal tax credit), a 2024 Prius Prime is approx $42k. A Toyota Corolla is even way cheaper than these. Factor in higher insurance cost, expense of installing a charger at home, plus upgrading electrical service if needed(another $3.5-$5K ), higher registration costs, quicker tire wear and the savings look more like a wash. I don't hate EVs, but they aren't quite there yet. They have a long way to go as far as real use range limits. Battery tech is changing so fast that for me it is worth waiting before purchasing an EV.

An electrician installed a 60 amp charger in my house for $500, so all told it was about $1000. Now I don't stop at gas stations for my everyday life and I spend far less to fuel it. You can get a M3RWD for 38k and MY for $44k (not including any tax credits). That's lower than the average cost for a vehicle sold in general. Toyota and its dealers have specialized selling you the most expensive car possible. Good luck finding a Prius or RAV4 in the cheapest model possible and good luck getting a Toyota without a markup - with the except of the trucks that had a recall.

Upgrading electrical service? If a NEMA 14-50 outlet and a 40-amp or 50-amp breaker installed plus an EVSE costs you $3.5-$5K, I have some oceanfront property in AZ you might be interested in! Under $1K at most. Registration is not more unless you live in an anti-EV state where they charge you $200 more. Quicker tire wear is a myth…did you just skip over that part? The only thing that has a long way to go is for people to quit listening to the anti-EV nonsense. Please watch the entire video…

@@jimsEVadventures Upgrading electrical service ie from 100 amps to 200 amps to be able to accept either a NEMA plug or level 2 home charger. I live in a very blue state and it is not anti-EV but EVs don't pay road tax via gas so they make it up with registration.

"Price parity is only happening because of tax credits and incentives." No it is not. Since 2020 EVs are cheaper in every aspect. MSRP - or buying price as we call it, running cost, energy cost, repair cost, sevice cost. I always compare similar vehicles. Hyunda Kona fully specced with a base Hyundai Kona, Toyota Camry HEV (we can not buy pure fossil cars from Toyota anymore) with Tesla Model 3, Model Y with many others like Toyota RAV4, Audi Q5, VW, Toyota, Lexus - you name it. We do not get tax incentives here in the middle of Europe and no more incentives.

Chinese EVs will always be cheaper because they are not hampered by the UAW. Our labor costs are non- competitive in the world market.

Your baseless claims - "the vast majority of EV batteries last 8-15 years" Based on what? 90% of BEVs have been manufatured since 2021; so you have a lousy 3 years of operation to base a claim on. In China 1.4 BEVs per 10,000 self ignite; and poor quality of late is increasing not decreasing that rate. A warranty means nothing if the company is out of business 5 BEV makers are already gone How much is the battery warranty worth on your Fisker? Nothing. Of course Gas is easier that sitting on your ass for hours to charge - you weren't done; you only plugged in; wait in the rain, snow, high heat. Oh you have a garage - nice 60% of the public don't have one!

Tests, tests, tests, you know how many cycles it can handle and then you can calculate expected life time, if you have a warranty of 8 years you know it will at least double or triple that.
If the battery has some defects it will be replaced within the first few years on warranty, but this should be a very low percentage.
