Thank you also for bringing up the points about CO2. BEVs win again by a long shot. And true that BEVs are only as clean as the grid, but even that is improving as carbon clean (nuclear, wind, solar, battery) technologies continue coming online.
@ALGYMU EVS running off of dirty electricity are still cleaner than gas vehicles because a large stationary power plant can run cleaner & more efficiently than any gasser
True. EVs, WFH, climate change and data centers are forcing Energy companies and utilities to evolve. Some push back to that investment will come as the anti-ev and anti taxpayer subsidy movement we are seeing. And in the latter case, there are way more examples of misuse of taxpayer funds than a EV subsidy and they know it. It's the grift talking.
If you look at the Moroney sticker on a 2021 Telsa Model Y Long Range AWD, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has rated this vehicle to get 131 City MPG and 117 Highway MPG, much closer to Jim's calculated and replicable estimate than Lauren's claim of 65 mpg.
I have family members who can clearly and easily transition into EV adoption but because of content creators like Jim mentioned they have a real hard time making the switch. Even though my household has two and we have taken multiple long road trips from north to Michigan, Pennsylvania and Ohio and back with not issues. And there are two other family members who own EVs and vow never to go back to gasoline, still, trying to convince them that all modern electric vehicles are now viable for almost everyone is a hard exhausting task. The misinformation and disinformation is powerful! And I know people who absolutely should be using EVs especially because they don’t ever road trip and they are homeowners. For those people to not drive purely electric in today’s modern time is baffling to me. But we have to allow people to come to the reality of EV benefits on their own. And I believe the vast majority of people will. I cannot make sense of me ever going back to gasoline or hybrid vehicles. I don’t miss the maintenance and gas stations at all!
hi thank you for this debunking video, I live in Australia and I am around the same age as John Cadogan he has his own particular and alterative view of many topics here in Australia his videos are made for his like minded followers that he directly and indirectly advertises products too similar to Scotty Kilmer. We have two cars one EV one ICE both are used regularly the ICE car will be replaced by a EV when the time is right
@@rp9674 True, but it also plays off the mob's need to "support" each other in their views, negative in this case. Head to the comments and all you see if bad info, jeers and the occasional EV advocate trying to state facts.
Yet one more outstanding video Jim. I love that you bring the receipts as they like to say. The amount of misinformation out there (no matter if about EV's or politics or whatever) is so bad that it's no wonder our world is where it's at today. So thank you for backing your info with facts and not just your opinion and/or preferences. One of the things that I just can't grasp is how some of these people have so much hate towards the EV's. Did someone in an EV run over their puppy? I would consider myself a true car guy and have said in the past that I may have oil flowing through my veins. However, even though I still own two older ICE cars, I see and fully appreciate the EV and what it does. I so much enjoy driving my Bolt EV that I can't fathom ever going back to ICE for my main car. I don't condemn others for liking ICE, but will offer them solid reasons why EV is good and why they should try them. So the anti-EV sentiment out there is crazy. Keep up the good fight.
I made he switch from my gas car into an Hyundai Ioniq5. I am very pleased and will never go back to an ICE vehicle. I have done several road trips (Texas to Florida; Texas to LA) No problems.
James May has a realistic take on Clarkson's denigration of EVs as "white goods". For most drivers and car owners, most of the time, cars ARE white goods. We don't all get to drive Ferrari's and Lamborghini's and Porsche's. We drive Fords and Toyota's and Honda's. We need a reliable vehicle to get us from a to b, preferably cheaply. And frequently our return journey is from b to a, where we can plug in and charge. BUT, EVs are quiet, responsive, fast accelerating, planted due to low center of gravity, and still cheaper to run than even the best hybrid. They are actually fun to drive, and you can instantly see how efficiently you are driving and try to improve, or press the sports button and to hell with it, and STILL be more efficient with energy usage than an ICE car. They have less mechnical stuff to go wrong, so long term ownership is cheaper, even if up front they cost a bit more (and as you say, that initial cost difference is vanishing). Clarkson has an unrealistic view of the average driver's car usage, after decades of being able to drive and own the most impractical cars ever devised. May's daily drive is a Tesla.
I'd like to hear more about EVs for people in hard-winter areas, and especially those with no garage or ability to install home charging above 120 volts at 20 amps AC.
If someone had told me 20 years ago that we'd have access to a new type of car that: 1. Is about 120 mpg equivalent. 2. No or very little brake maintenance. 3. No oil changes. 4. No tune ups. 5. No belts to change. 6. Are not just more powerful than equally priced ICE vehicles, but can also outperform hypercars right out of the dealership. 7. You could refuel it at home or even from the sun. - I would've thought everyone with an IQ at least above room temperature would've accepted this technology with open arms. However, I wouldn't had been accounting for Clown world.
You forgot to mention that d3pending on the state you can produce less CO2. A few states are probably better on hybrid since thw use of coal for their electricity is so high, but some states have more renewable soirces making the ev better than average

Apparently Porsche is releasing a new Macan Electric, so it doesn't look like they're turning away from EVs.
Hey folks! The Enron style con is on! Get out of Tesla and anything Elon the Con while you can!
Negativity gets clicks. Also sexy thumbnails. My lizard brain is guilty of it!😂
It might be true for you, but I live in Sweden, right now I pay around $0.5 / kWh. Which makes it really expensive to drive a EV. So it all depends!.

EVs. Lol. One of the worst purchases you could make against mother earth.
