Bought a 3 year old certified used Kia EV last year & have spent ZERO on maintenance. 95%+ of charging is done at home for free since we have solar. Can’t beat that!
Total cost of ownership is a tough one. .and not in the sense that I think ICE vehicles have a better TCO, because I don’t. I do believe total cost is better either way with EVs. BUT for a lot of folks that live close to or at paycheck to paycheck, the total cost is less of a concern as day to day costs. For example; With Netflix we tend to pay monthly even if there is a better yearly option. With cars that means considering monthly payment, insurance , and filling-up/charging way more than down the line savings. In general I would say up front costs have reached parity or pretty much near it. So I still think EVs win out. Incentives are nice since they help sort of a compromise to make the *perceived* headaches that some people that havent owned EVs think they will experience with their first one. Especially since gas subsidies aren’t going anywhere (and I don’t think they should , at least not yet). So we’ll see what effect lack of incentives has on EV sales Anyway. I agree with all your points. And EVs are here to stay. People that have them like them , incentives or not. Once there are more used ones available , they will take off more . I think Elon will be a bug in trumps ear so that at least nothing negative will happen. Just maybe not anything positive. But we’ll see.
From purchasing a NEW or USED EV - the EV will always win the TCO battle. That is my only point. If you cannot afford to buy a car, then this does not apply whether it is an ICE or EV.
Some of us owned EV's long before the EV tax credits. Vehicle prices in general are out of control. While they can say the EV tax credit will go away they stated they would be offering another credit for US manufactured vehicles. Last time I checked if you qualified for the EV tax credit it had to be sourced and made in the US. I don't see how they would work around any vehicle getting that credit based on the energy source that runs the vehicle. Now we wait to see how that wording gets changed. They have no choice but to build the grid to meet the demand for AI and the electrification of everything. The cities are moving to that model and that is how the dog wags it's tail. If there are less wars and more investment in our country I am all for it. Used to be that was a democrat principal, but it has all been turned on it's head. Watching the break neck speed of progress in China while we stand still or even progressively decline should be a very big concern for everyone. Let's hope that the focus returns to home and we start putting main street first. Thanks for the video Jim.
Counterintuitively, drill baby drill is the fastest way to get to electrification. America uses cheap energy to invest and develop technological advancements. It takes a prosperous society to do this...weakening us economically will not speed up the EV transition, it will just make life harder and take longer. I'm an EV owner / advocate as well. As an engineering minded person the thought of the complexity and inefficiency of ICE vehicles bother me so much, it just doesn't make sense to my pea-brain.
Hi im from the uk i watch your channel a lot I've never had a ev and I'm soon to have a ionic 5 i have a home charger on my house and it will probably take me a while to get used to it the thought of the car parked up charged by the morning and I haven't got to go to the fuel station to top up is very good but i think it new to me i did try it before i ordered the car i don't when you put this video on you tube but have watched a load of them you have helped me a lot and I will let you know how i get on anyway thanks for the advice keep up the good work
I have to start by saying i was not born in the usa but I was very concerned when i saw the results of the us elections, Jim you definitely eased my worries.
Very optimistic. US oil is lower quality & more expensive than imported, just like coal it's not the government that's primarily holding it back, it's economics. Michael Bernard has an informed comprehensive explanation of energy and EVS on Electrify Everything.
Last time Trump was gonna save the coal industry.....he did not. This time he promises to save the oil industry. We will see.
Don’t kid yourself!

Ev's best decision ever

Love your content Jim! I’ve been an EV owner since 2022 and I’ll never go back to ICE!

Don't let this video ease your worries, America is screwed up. That's coming from an American

Just unsubscribed to you. You are basically MAGA thinking Trump is anti war. How dare you.
The EV batteries are toxic and battery storage facilities are even more toxic and are going to increase the fire problems were having
@@tealatata3798 that's just totally false, please look things up before commenting. Engines are way more likely to catch fire then ev battery's
@ no it’s not they been blowing up all over the place. Apparently you haven’t listened to the news
@@tealatata3798 again search it up. If you can do something as simple as search something up before commenting I won't bother
