    The A2Z strikes me as a good choice, referring people to Tom Moloughney's page is a classy move also. A close friend of my road tripped his Ford F150 Lightning using the A2Z and had no problems (he's also a Tesla owner). Question, does using a 3rd party adapter with have any warranty implications with GM.
    I can't wait for Hyundai/Genesis/KIA's turn to get access.

    • @jimsEVadventures
      @jimsEVadventures  Місяць тому +1

      According to Tesla AND GM…third party adapters are not approved for use on the Tesla system. BUT, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act would come into play if GM decided they would not warranty your car. And since Tesla is not capable of making or approving adapters fast enough to use their PUBLIC chargers, and the commerce act is settled law, I doubt any jury would lean in their favor. But I’m just an armchair lawyer…but I can also tell you there are lots of lawyers who love nothing better than suing big companies. 40 percent of the billboards on every highway that allows them are lawyers. Just sayin…

    I unfortunately paid the $225 (on back order) for the adapter through Chevrolet. I wished I had seen your video first. My brother has a Mach-E and he ordered his "free" adapter on March 1, 2024 and still no charger.

    • @jimsEVadventures
      @jimsEVadventures  2 місяці тому

      You can always cancel your GM order, I will bet. When using the discount code from State of Charge, the A2Z delivers overnight for $177 and change. It is heavy-duty. It is well made and durable.

    I've used the MagicDock Supercharger a few times with my Bolt (on our occasional 2+ hour trip to Portland, OR) -- works flawlessly and considerably cheaper than Electrify America. I ordered the adapter from GM -- perhaps a mistake, considering the discounts you mention for alternatives -- it's on backorder 🙄. Will the adapters work with older Supercharger versions (V2)? I've seen some references that indicate that there may be issues with V2 superchargers -- V3 is recommended. (Edit) Never mind - I just saw on the State of Charge video that GM access is limited to V3 or newer Superchargers.

    • @jimsEVadventures
      @jimsEVadventures  Місяць тому +1

      V3 and V4 only. Those 250kW and above. None of the CCS1 vehicles can use V1 or V2 superchargers. But most of the V1 and V2 chargers are going to be updated in time anyway.

    I wonder if this will work on Tesla chargers in Canada? 🇨🇦 Also, did you have to install a Tesla app on your phone to get this to work? Is the charging cost comparable to non-Tesla chargers?

  • @jeanfrancoisfilteau5340
    @jeanfrancoisfilteau5340 Місяць тому +1

    Sorry for the redundant question about the App. Your answer was you try both of them. Is the cost is the same? Did you update your Bolt software before like Tom's recommendation?

    • @jimsEVadventures
      @jimsEVadventures  Місяць тому

      Software updates for your car are only required for a narrow list of 2019 and 2020 Bolts. Tom’s new recommendation PER GM is, try your car first. If it don’t work, see GM. The cost difference was 0.02 per kWh. At this site. I’m sure, like everything GM and Tesla do…prices will vary and sometimes be the same for both. I’ll do a more in depth video on charging soon…and include APP demonstrations.

    • @jimsEVadventures

      You can always cancel your order and go with one of the others...your backorder (based on what they have done with Ford) could be anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months.

      @nathanbrumbaugh8545 Not sure what the unacceptable part is, I ordered our adapter at 8:30 am Wednesday morning through the My Cadillac app using my reward points towards the purchase and picked up the adapter at the dealership Thursday afternoon and I was able to charger our Lyriq soon after at a SCN V3.5 site. One day turn around for the adapter is acceptable to me. I never expected the adapter to be free. There were never any promises from GM for a free adapter.

    I believe the pull-through chargers are intended for vehicles towing.

    • @mowcowbell
      @mowcowbell Місяць тому

      That's true, but with a Bolt you will be blocking 2 spots if you use another charger at that location.

    • @jimsEVadventures
      @jimsEVadventures  Місяць тому

      Yeah. But leaving a trailer sticking out in this location would be very dangerous and annoying to all traffic. There was no “pull through” there either. So…there was no rhyme nor reason for this setup.

    Is the price per kWh at Tesla fast chargers much better than Electrify America? EA has worked well when I've needed it. I'm not enthusiastic about buying a $200 adapter.

    • @jimsEVadventures
      @jimsEVadventures  Місяць тому +1

      I only do this because I now have two EVS and will use this on road trips, as needed and for channel demonstrations. Pricing, for the most part, is equal to or less than EA.

    Although a good step, still can’t compete with the simple plug & charge of a Tesla on a Tesla supercharger; no adapter, no going thru menus on an app

    • @dennislyon5412

      Only on a battery that doesn’t have the ability to cool itself off while fast charging.

    • @jimsEVadventures
      @jimsEVadventures  2 місяці тому +1

      Good question. There are those who say “yes” and those who say “no!” For the Bolt, the maximum speed is 55 kW and the battery cooling is excellent … so with the Bolt, likely no! There are some Tesla models that have charged exclusively on fast chargers and gone 200,000 miles or more. But there are some that barely break 100,000 miles. It’s a tough call. I’ll be reporting on my battery at 50,000 miles. I fast charge less than 15 percent of the charges. My degradation is typical. For more details, I’d suggest going to recurrentauto.com. They have tons of good battery info.
