    How can we re-learn everyday troubles and enjoyments in our lives in this digital age? How we can collaboratively build a happier tomorrow, a more livable world for all?

    Wichtige Gedanken präzise aber sehr unterhaltsam vorgetragen - ein Genuss!
    Tatsächlich werden wir "gerettet werden" durch die Herausbildung von im Deutschen sagt man "Herzensbildung". Dazu bedarf es verschiedener günstig getroffener Faktoren, zum Beispiel liebenden, starke Eltern, die uns unter anderem Empathie, Geduld und Disziplin weitergeben, aber auch zugewandten, verständigen Lehrern, echt unterstützende Freunde, Freude an Schönheit ob in der Natur oder der Kultur aber auch eine Prise Scheitern, Leiden und Empathie.
    Hoffnungsfrohe Grüße aus dem Land der Dichter und Denker an die hier versammelte Runde und speziell an den zu allem Überfluss auch noch so sympathischen Redner

      - Sorry to disillusion you but it's NEVER going to happen for as long as the corrupt & incompetent politicians are allowed to behave as "superior idiots ( by which I mean that while they may have "higher; education they have a poor grasp of reality ! ) are allowed to continue deliberately :dumbing down" the conventional education system as the last thing they want is an intelligent population refusing to buy into their b s whilst attempting to control us by illusion! - For more on that theme watch the sub plot of Pt. 1 of the sci fi film trilogy "Matrix" or even Google on "Matrix & Plato's The cave as it's a modern reworking of Plato's 'The Cave "- Opened up many people's eyes as to the true nature of how our power elite's control us through illusion, etc,

      As Abraham Maslow said "It's healthy to resist enculturation" [ which I take to mean negative social conditioning ] But having read Alice Miller I understand that 90% of our species are dysfunctional because of toxic upbringing by parents/relatives /teachers/ corrupt politicians who set up the conventional education system to dumb us down so we never REALLY question how the social system is rigged ( see the sub plot of Pt. 1 of the Sci Fi film trilogy "The Matrix" which is a modern reworking of Plato's "The Cave" on CONTROL BY ILLUSION ) - Before she died Alice Miller wrote to all the heads of government ( inc. the Pope ) explaining the true nature of THE HUMAN CONDITION - & they ALL ignored her so clearly these parasites who benefit from our pain & misery are only interested in maintaining the status quo - deep sigh !

    • @feartheghus
      @feartheghus 4 роки тому

      @@jimlyon7276 I am so tired of everyone blaming their faults on their parents and the world. I also don’t know why so many people have such an aversion to the judgement of good and evil, many people believe no one is evil, which is plainly false. Some people are bad, it doesn’t mean their parents were bad, not every abuser was abuse as a kid, we don’t need an obsessive search for something to explain evil acts other than evil. SO many people seem afraid to accept that there are evil people in the world. So many people are afraid to accept that their problems are not all because of daddy issues.

    • @jimlyon7276
      @jimlyon7276 4 роки тому

      @@feartheghus- Rather than continuing to use outdated inadequate social constructs I suggest to you that 90% of our species are dysfunctional & if there is such a thing as human "evil" it's the psycho dynamic whereby the over controlling - toxic parents of 1 generation screw up their kids & because they never wise up to it they then contaminate the next generation & so it has been for countless millennia - hence our species slow rate of evolution !
      But rather than get in my face about something you clearly know little about why didn't you simply ask my source rather than simply "beating your gums?
      Despite your unpleasant judgmental attitude I suggest you go & read ALICE MILLER - THE best child psychologist I ever
      came across - certainly turned my life around :) - While she explains why we r so screwed up, if you want to learn about how good we could become then read ABRAHAM MASLOW - ignore all the unnecessary attention on business management & look @ his work on Self Actualising Persons & use that as a good role model! While there's little of value in between used together Miller & Maslow give a good idea of the continuum of human behaviour ! - H.T.H. ?

    fascinating to see how bits and pieces from several of Alain´s books are woven together into a larger narrative, outlining a structure for designing systems that will remind/help/enable us to practice being better people, to ourselves, others and, although not mentioned, other species and our environment. now, make time to write down what it is about de Botton that makes me/you feel envious :)

    I love a lot of what Alain teaches, especially about how Romanticism has been the cause of the implosion of most modern relationships.
    But it makes me so terribly sad that somebody with such a wonderful brain and such a big heart could see clearly enough to know that we lost community, wisdom, proper teaching, and more when people left church and faith… And then not even see that that is exactly the only cause and reason of all the increased depression and suicide rates and hopelessness!
    How can you see the cause of the problem, and then not even recognize that the solution to the problem is to go back to what stopped the problem in the first place!?

    There is a cruel irony to the fact that you can't educate people to be wise, while de Botton wants to 'school' people in wisedom. 'Doing' is to learning by rote what 'being' is to becoming wise. Unfortunately, it is the sore lack of education delivered in most places of learning - (educe - to draw out one's latent qualities) that leads to this in a materialistic corporatocracy, in which we live, and in which most people are surrogates for machines.

    I thought that parents and family are there to show you what's important in life and relationships and in general share with you the wisdom. Of course there are families which will not be especially good at this; well, just as some universities and schools will provide bad quality education. But still, why look for a business model, a new way to earn money on something which, from my point of view, is the very fabric of being in a family (being a child, a parent, etc...)

    • @meinungabundance7696
      @meinungabundance7696 9 років тому +2

      +Ewa Wilczyńska
      The wisdom of the families? dont you know how many toxic families are out there? apart from toxic families, there are families who give love and understanding, but are not reflexive, not intellectual enough to convey certain kind of knowledge to their siblings. Some issues in the modern world are more complex than a family can express verbally - and this is needed, too. I've always wondered, why the family is so overrated in Poland....

    • @ewaetnak
      @ewaetnak 9 років тому +1

      Maybe because it's the first "place" where u learn about life, love, failure, sadness. If it functions well you are pretty well equipped to deal with life, also search for more than your family gave you. But u have the "compass". I adore The School of Life, but I believe it is to complement the family, (friends, wise teachers, etc.) not to replace them.

    • @meinungabundance7696
      @meinungabundance7696 9 років тому

      +Ewa Wilczyńska
      1) so called "happy family"might also feel stagnant, and is, indeed, oftentimes, overprotective. If you are loved and accepted, it might be difficult to "search for more than your family gave you. Unfortunately, happy people dont bring mankind forward. 2) nobody said that the School of life is to replace the family - because obviously, family takes care first and foremost of our physical needs, or psychological needs, if we are lucky, BUT in majority of cases NOT of our intellectual needs. This is the moment when the School of Life or other educational institutions might step in. 3) are you now talking about the "extended family"? bcause you are mentioning friends and teachers. School of Life is such a wise teacher.

    • @meinungabundance7696

    I have a problem with the bypassing of God. I know I was raised with the values of Faith in God and the virtues of holiness. Not that anyone can attain the Standard of Christ. But that He is the standard of virtue. These values have ceased to be passed down at large by parents to their children. When I observe this in practice, I see a quality of life that I wish I had. You are correctly addressing a great need that is greatly lacking in humanity. But, why replace God? To me it is useless, but I will be observing with great interest!

    my vision for education is a smorgasbord of opportunity beginning with music, play, dance, garden, cook, learn about life from within being carried in its mothers arms for the first 9 months at having been delivered at half time, compared to other large mammals . from the moment of conception we are fast forwarded through all the eons and ages of time to arrive on the face of earth and ever so accurate sum up of all the cosmic as in galactic energyes grounding their selfs in any and every , to where, tween linage and locale, we grow into a body of memoryes , much as earth has done, Crystals grow, to this day, as time CoMPress. . we are not born to be taught , we are each born as a cosmic update, arriving into the same energy society is at the time. todays youth leapfrogged over us with the computer. you young people are light years ahead of where all those who got stuck in repeat . . with the universe screaming to us for youth's creativity flower in our world .
    flower power to the people begins by our living in honour and respect of our youth,
    they are brilliant, they are bright, they see life through unfettered eyes.
    we ought be pumping them for our insights while the rest of us figure out how to IMPlimend our DeepArtMend
    Children are not ours, rather we belong to them, to send them off into this world witha healthy wholesome sense of self .
    like the cells of our being. . sum up of any is greater than its parts . . if every cell of our body knows how to play its part and function with the body of our beingness. Can we not trust the sum of its parts to like open their eyes and while they think for their selves
    it is trying to think through another's thinking that we run into so much trouble and 10 times so with the world wide web and instant translations dissolving the rivers of babble on adapted to the galactic energyes grounding and radiating from neat our feet
    to with it, have the energyes shape our thinking and colour our world with all manner of cultures and customs , come, let us be a celebrations of our customs and cultures, let us turn the earth into a blooming show of what can happen when youth puts its mind to some youth listens to grown ups , in fact told hush time we hush and listen to just how brilliant and bright ourchids are
    never sully youth with the shadows of your past

    I'm glad in 2013 Alain de Botton, scion of one of the wealthiest families in Switzerland is able to garner so much enthusiasm. It is now nov 2019 and his charming personality manages to sell the same ideas without any kind of natural evolution over and over. I like him very much and think he is profoundly sincere; he draws on Western philosophers from Schopenhauer to Nietzche to … here we meet old friends the alternative Religion, psychoanalysis Freud, Winnicott,... here is where I stop. I think of Freud as someone in flux constantly testing ideas; in that context his mistakes are completely understandable. Also the highly strung wealthy women of Vienna provided a cultural context rooted in time and place. I have no problem with de Botton's denunciation of the romantic movement as it affects people today. But I am profoundly bored. I don't care if my mother's experience as a jew in Berlin during the Nazi era, hidden in plain sight by changing identity papers, which made her grandfather, useful to Speer, a collaborator, any easier but I have beautiful images of Eva as a frightened cat clinging to the top branches of a tree and afraid to come down. It is good to understand the people we love profoundly. And here is where I stop and withdraw from a project that does not interest me.
