Am i wrong or you're listening to this with just one earpode? If you do then you're totally doing it wrong. You can't listen to instrumental music with just 1 side of earphones because what is in the right side is not the same in the left side you must use both

When heavy metal ruled the world! It was called "Headbangers Ball" from MTV. I was only 22 years old when they played this over in Moscow, the end of the Cold War and collapse of the Soviet Union/USSR. That free show alone had more than all 12 annual of the TEXXAS JAMS at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Tx. did.

OH and the military was there because in any public event, by police standars a 100,000+ are considered high risk events, including sports, because there are tons of people. With this amount of insanity, police is not enough, you need the army. 1.8M is way too much crowd to handle

In the early 1980's, Metallica is one of the few bands still going strong today. Some others disbanded or even retired from touring as another band, Whitesnake with lead singer, David Coverdale forced to retire from touring because health issues. But there are still least bands started in 1960's are still going strong: Rolling Stones (even though they are not metal) and Germany's Scorpions.

You guys think this was a random band, but this was shortly after Metallica's 4th album released and Enter Sandman became one of their biggest hits. This was exactly their moment, when they went from an event/opener band to a stadium band, and not just in this instance. I was around your age at the time and felt all this anger, like you said, at all the wrong stuff happening in the world (you probably have even more to be angry about!).

The B-side to "Enter Sandman" Is "Stone Cold Crazy". Metallica won the Grammy for Best Metal Performance for it in 1991. The song was written by Freddie Mercury and it is on Queen's 1974 album, "Shear Heart Attack". Check out the live version in 1974 at the Rainbow. 👑

If I remember correctly, about a month before this concert a group of Soviet hardliners had attempted a coup, trying to wrest control away from Gorbachev. Soviet youth came out in significant numbers to stand against the coup attempt(Gorbachev had been more of a reformer than they wanted). When Gorbachev asked the youth how he could thank them for their help, they asked for Western rock bans to come perform. Metallica was already touring in Eastern Europe at the time, so they were part of the lineup for this concert. The Soviet Union would collapse by the end of that same year.

Military was there because in any public event, by police standars a 100,000+ crowd are considered high risk events, including sports, because there are tons of people. With this amount of insanity, police is not enough, you need the army. +1.6M is way too much crowd to handle in case of something happen.

metallica with this performance owned Russia. If you saw the full video you would see far more Russian soldiers rocking out and joining in with the head banging.
I always put down most bands of the 80s that tried to mimic Zeppelin, trying to be them. I said they were just shallow. I forgot Metallica as the kings of the mountain who were real and talented and were a band with a force to be reckoned with. I meant to include that but, forgot. Those shallow hair bands of the 80s were so embarrassing to anyone with a serious intent. Metalica kicked it and knocked it down with their sheer talent and hard rockin' but, substantive sound.
