The historical significance of this show is what makes being a part of this amazing. The Soviet military tried a coup against Gorbachev to prevent the fall of communism and to prevent this show from happening just days before the show. The concert was completely free also marking the first open air free festival in the u.s.s.r. A lot of significant things came after this show also.

That's exactly what it was. I bet Metallica and other bands were shocked themselves. It was funny, cause people secretly were listening to Western bands and right there they had a chance to see it with their own eyes without being condemned and fined. On that day people showed that they've had enough of Communist regime and want to be able to choose freely what they want to do and what they want to listen without being told off.

They were massive. I was a sophomore in high school and I was a Gangsta Rap / Rap / Hip Hop guy but I jammed to some Metallic as well.! The energy in this video is crazy. Roomer is 1.6 million people but the drummer Lars said it was about 1/2 million in an interview I saw. Still, 500,000 people at a concert is about 5 to 10 times as big as a Normal massive concert! Great review guys!

Fun Fact... If you listen to Lars Ulrich on the Howard Stern show when Metallica played this song... Lars's own words were that the "Original" rendition of this song was about CRIB DEATH. The original lyrics were changed slightly and the song was renamed Enter Sandman.

There were 1.9 million people there, the largest live performance In the history of humanity! No one will ever top that show! The helicopters were training their guns on the crowd, to prevent the people from going absolutely insane, and killing the military troops there. The military had just failed at trying to kill Gorbachev and keep communism in power, and the people had enough of tyranny and oppression. You should hear the crowd when they chanted "die" over and over again during the song fade to black at the same concert. The crowd was so large, that they set off seismic sensors across that part of the world! A human made earthquake!
