The reason ATC is telling you to descend/climb when it appears you already are at the altitude - is because your altimeter is set to standard (29.92). Below 18,000 ft, press B to set the barometric pressure given by ATC. Above 18,000ft, all aircraft transfer to “flight levels”, and everyone sets their altimeter to 29.92. 18,000ft becomes FL180. This allows for everyone to be on the same page on their altimeter. Hope that helps

Things like that. You were figuring it out as you were going too. This helped a lot!! Thank you : )
very good explanation, easy to understand, will be following this when i go on the sim next time as i cant get the plane to follow the green route line.
Can a real A320 land by itself in ILS/approach mode? I tried it in MSFS by keeping autopilot on all the way. It did show 'flare' on top of the PFD around 30 feet above the runway but the plane took a nosedive resulting in a hard landing.
Absolutely true what you have said about ATC it can be weird at times, ie climb to 7,000 feet when fifteen miles from touchdown and ILS engaged, cancel flight following at this time ?? why ?? Also when selecting the destination air port how can you select the runway to land into the wind ? Having said that the FS is simply brilliant. One more comment the ground services, ie pushback, connect the walkway can be very odd at times. Finally don't ask the first officer to do anything other than take off as he gets totally confused, well at least he does with me. Has anybody else had issues with first officer ?
thanks for this as I will need to auto land once msfs comes out for xbox series x because I'm new to this and have a lot to learn. seeing all those cockpit buttons is making me nervous as I haven't a clue what they all do.
Thanks for the video, it was thorough. As an added thing... "more better" and "more lower" shouldnt be said together, Its just "better" or "lower"... or you could say "best or lowest" if you wanted to emphasise them

Michael Connell not all places have altitude constraints. Check that you have chose an ils runway in the main menu when checking approach. Apart from that it might be a bug. Also check the zoom level

Can you do a tutorial on what to do when you miss the landing and you have to do again an ILS approach and landing? @@OzzySafa yes, I do, but I start running in circle via HDG, I have every time to ask for next way manually and never get back to the final approach route via their indication.
How do you get it to descend and land on the runway? I DID put it into approach mode, but my plane stayed at 3,000 feet and flew right over the airport..there must be more to it than just turning on approach mode
Then you have done something wrong watch the video again. Make sure your thrust levers are set at climb. If you flew over that means you were above the localiser and it wasn’t signalling your plane down. Pay attention to the diamonds on the display. And make sure your flaps are set
i just cant figure out landing i can never get lined up to the runway when using the auto pilot im putting in every command needed but im always just to high and the plane doesnt seem to respond when its time to descend
Are you pressing the approach button once you have intercepted the localiser? When your pink/ purple diamonds begin to start lining up that’s when you press approach on the auto pilot. Is that you in your picture btw? If so great physique
I've found as recently as this week that the Series X version of FS2020 bugs out when following IFR/ILS; Coms tells you to be at one FL and the FMS tells you to be at a completely different level. As a real world pilot this is quite annoying. As a sim player its extremely frustrating. And the fact that you can't actually utilize the FMS system on the Xbox version... *womp*
I have the Xbox version, and still getting used to it. For the Speed Brakes, you can either do "Armed," or a percentage from 0%-100%. If you want to have them engage, should they be armed or set to 0%, with Auto-Brakes set to MED/MAX? I also struggle with the approach and also being at the right altitude at the right time w/ the right speed. Seems like I can never get the managed altitude/speed/etc. to engage, and I have to manually set my altitudes and speed.
Speed breaks set them to arm and make sure you slow down in steps with each stage of flap opened. Make sure when full flaps engage approach speed is near 140kts if it’s faster it’ll be harder for the flare . Auto break set it to medium and you should be fine make sure the thrust setting is correctly set to climb
@@OzzySafa so if they are ARMED, then they will catch with the autobreaks? I also didn't know it mattered to have it in the climb detent, since AutoThrust was active. I have it on Xbox, and the hardest part I have is trying to flare at them end, while also holding the B button to Retard my thrust on landing. Thinking of getting the turtle beach flight setup when it comes out.
@@TheRealBigT1984 yes the thrust levers being on climb is the most important. Otherwise the auto thrust won’t work properly. Try putting the thrust to idle when you hear the 30 call out and it should give it enough time to slow down some airbus pilots do this in real life. As soon as the wheels touch engage revers thrust but yes having physically thrust levers will make it much easier instead of pressing buttons.
@@OzzySafa thanks a lot! Tried it tonight and had my smoothest landing by far. Speed was good, spoilers/brakes popped up on landing, etc. Kept it on AP until around 200 feet, then turned it off and flared around 30, while setting thrust to Idle.
Then twist the speed dial on the auto pilot panel to 140kts but when you mouse over it make sure you engage that speed by pulling towards you , and make sure auto thrust button is toggled on and full flaps set then plane should slow it down to that itself. Remember the thrust levers must be set exactly at the climb setting
My plane doesn't flare on it's own with auto land, it just falls hard at around 50ft. Am I doing something wrong? It does display land and then flare but it still falls hard. AP1: on Auto Thrust: on Flaps: Full Speed Brake: Armed
Next to ap1 there should be a approach button that must be on too for auto land also depends on some airports. The airport has to support the cat type of ils approach.
Can someone help me, because when I am landing on approach mode just seconds before touchdown the autopilot bring the nose down making a bouncy landing
Hey, i try to Land the a320. The Same Route and i watched your ils tutorial. But as soon i retract the flaps, the nose rises up and the a320 climbs. Even without AP i cant Push the nose down again. So what i am doing wrong?
Tried this on two attempts. As I go to touch down the plane points it’s nose up and lifts off about 20 feet. What have I done wrong? Could it be that my throttle was still set forward even though auto throttle was on?
you have to idle the throttle before you touch down. but not doing so wouldnt be the cause of your problem. make sure the speed is managed and the thrust levers are in the climb gate

@@OzzySafa yes, you always do engage both autopilots even when the intention is carry out a manual landing.
Your video stated you needed both autopilots to autoland, you don’t. If you despatched with one of the autopilots inoperative then the plane would still be autoland capable.
@@richardohughes fair point I must have been procedurally speaking. In real life if I were carrying passengers I would divert if I had to rely on one auto pilot.
@@OzzySafa that wouldn’t be a reason to divert. The airbus can be dispatched with one autopilot inop. I don’t think your employers would be very happy if you diverted because of that.
@@richardohughes it would be a decision with the captain this is where CRM comes into play but if I were the skipper carrying out an auto land in low vis with 1 AP inop, its a definite no from me. It could be justified in a meeting.
More confused than I started
Just keep practicing. You’ll pick it up
Just makes my want to pull my hair out!@
Made simple, yeah sure.
I’m still confused as ever.
Keep practicing keep following the steps you’ll get there in the end.

My gosh the Airbus in 2020 is soooo unaccurate. I mean there isn't even an ECAM-Memo and stuff! This is ridiculous. xD
