  • This is a 2018 Volvo S90 T5 long term review. Family driven commuter car, Momentum Plus package. We live in Dallas, TX, USA and I daily drive the car a short distance (less than 10 miles) on a mix of street and highway. We have a car seat in the back and love to take this on longer road trips. Adaptive cruise control is an incredible feature that makes the miles melt away!
Our other cars are a Lexus NX200 and a Honda S2000.
    0:10 Exterior walk around
    0:25 Driver Position
    2:09 Rear seats (long wheelbase)
    4:17 Trunk room
    4:47 Road Test
    9:03 Pilot assist
I haven't seen many real world long-term review for this car. Thought I would post my impressions of the car since its the first generation Chinese made Volvo!

UPDATE: Added a massive convertible Graco with her own cupholders--fits just fine. Added tint and windshield tint too. Halfway through a 3,000 mile road trip and car has been perfect, avg 32 mpg

I owned a 750 Li and S 550 but this car eventhough don't compete with them is top notch. Luxurious for half the price. I would recommend the T6 inscription which I just bought. Very very please with the the level of tech and safety. Kiss goodbye to my bummer and benz

Exactly! I think this was the goal for Volvo, that plus attractive styling that is modern and uniform across the platform. Its an "entry-level luxury" for US buyers. Internationally, its a luxury car though.

I am a 2017 Volvo XC90 T6 R-Design owner and I think the newer S90's are such an underrated premium sedan. I would spec mine as a T6 Inscription with air suspension and the Bowers & Wilkins audio system (like my XC90) and the dark brown interior.

Yeah nice specs! Definitely going for a consistent update with the S60s, XC60/40 etc. If you don't need the full size SUV, this is a great large sedan!

2:20 4.72 inch in precise. S90L is first released in China. The reason behind the wheelbase extension is primarily due to the fact that Audi A6, BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E class only provide long wheelbase version in China. So in China, the four of them are in the same category.
3:40 The Daqing Volvo Factory (China) actually have the second most advanced equipments and best build quality among all Volvo plants.
6:30 Audi A6 of the same class also is, by default, FWD. FWD is in fact safer when you run into rain and snow.
6:40 S90 only provides optional air suspension for the rear. If you don't have that, this luxury sedan would ride like a Tesla Model 3, that is very sporty and not comfortable at all.
7:08 Most SPA and CMA Volvo cars, except PHEV and EV Models (e.g. S90 t8, XC60 Recharge, XC40 BEV), sucks at providing a quiet cabin. Without any use of suppressing foams, which are toxic, the engine noise, road noise, and wind noise will certainly be obvious.
    7:17 Hybrid model s90 t8 actually has a 0-96 of 4.9s. Note: the t8 model weighs over 4400lb.
9:46 The current pilot assist is most similar to the basic version of Tesla Autopilot. However, due to the limited angle of the front camera and millimetre wave cam, pilot assist can't deal with large angle turns and lanes that are not clearly marked. So definitely don't rely on it. If you want a cam approach Volvo, the refreshed XC90 actually has cam configuration that is similar to Tesla, despite none of those extra cams are utilised. If you don't have good faith in cam approach, wait for the 2022 SPA2 S90 that utilises Luminar Lidars.

My big concern about getting this car is about long term maintenance. What is your experience with this? I’d like to have this car for the next decade, through grad school and beyond, but I am worried about constantly needing replacement parts and paying an arm and a leg for them

    • @RonRohde
      @RonRohde  4 роки тому +4

I don't think we'll know that answer for another 8 years. The main drivers of repair costs seem to be popularity of the car + replacement production. And finding independent shops to do the work. That said, Volvo has never had the volume to produce cheap repairs comparable to a Honda or Toyota. I do think the smaller, "standard 2.0T" engine that is finding its way into everything will help though. Since these are new models with unknown track records, we just don't know what the future holds. If you're set of owning a car for a decade with lowest risk of running costs, better to get a Lexus ES or Camry.

I am Choon Leng from Singapore driving S90 T5 Momentum (2019).
Currently my steering wheel gets stuck every day and this is very dangerous.
The steering wheel gets stuck from 60km/h - 90km/h, particularly on rough roads and steering wheel will vibrate and causing it to stuck.
Singapore Volvo dealer cannot find the problem.
I changed all brakes and rotors but the problem is still not solved.
I may be the first in Volvo history to get this problem.
The problem may be steering wheel, drive shafts, suspensions.
That means Pay and Pay for trial and error to solve the problem.
