I have been riding the SAVAGE 650 for 12 years.
I got mine just as a stop gap measure, so I could park my gas guzzler 4x4 for a while, and I ended up loving it so much, I'm keeping it. I'm a little tall(6'1") for it, but a few seat mods later, and all's well. I love how light, and just easy this bike is, it only weighs 380lbs, it's great on gas, and perfect for locals commuting, or around town rides. I love the low end torque, and once I got the turn out Sportster pipe, I love how it sounds, nice and meaty, exactly how a big thumper should sound. It's just an easy, and fun bike to own, that's the best I can sum it up.
I just bought my wife an s-40 and told her to watch and subscribe to your channel. keep up the good work. stay safe and enjoy the new bike you got.
Thanks, Mark!! :D Hope she likes it, ride safe
Excellent review! There aren't very many bikes suitable for petite riders and you've done a great job highlighting one that is! Well done!
Just got my '07 with less than 5k on it. Looks just like yours. At 1800 it was a pretty good deal in my part of the US. Can't wait to take some awesome rides.
Your vids have come a long way Doodle!! Awesome music, btw....lol.
Perfect first bike for anyone. 5-10 years down the road, sell it or mod it. I'm turning mine into a old school chopper one part at a time.
Agreed. Once I have a good enough reason, or get bored, I'm going full performance + bobber mode, that look suits this so well, and that big single is perfect for it. It's just way too damn pretty now to tear it up :)
my good friend of 35 years, his wife just bought a S40! hers is copper color, haven't seen it yet but I am happy for her, she was riding a Honda rebel 250 but it just didn't quite manage hiway speeds. she is about 5 feet tall maybe.
COPPER!? That must be GORGEOUS!! Yeah I considered the Honda Rebel and ended up going with the S40, thinking the rebel wouldn't do well on the highway
I used to have a friend have a friend who had one, hers was white as well. Good times, I ran into her the other day haven't seen her in about 6 years, she is doing good she don't ride anymore though, not sure why, I think she rides with her husband. Nice guy.
Excellent video young lady, you did a great job covering this bike, Love the Gremlin Bell, Nice spot for it.
Keep up the great work young lady and have a blessed week.
Thanks, HDS!!
You look so good on that bike, it fits you perfectly and its a good looking bike... Enjoyed your video per usual
Thanks for watching! Pssh i look good on every bike
You'll get no arguments here :)
This is a small bike.... but it looks enormous on you!! Tiny woman! I love this color.
I actually like the s40 air cooled thumpers are always fun in my book . I think its the same motor that was in my DR650 . You look great on your bike doodle.
thanks, DUDE!
Thanks for showing us around 👌
:D Thanks for watching!
Awww thanks Doodle! The Suzuki Savage Bobber should be on the road within a few weeks hopefully!!
:D Awesome!!!! Can't wait to see!!!!
Cool walkaround video! 👍
Thanks, MotoKari!!
Such an awesome looking bike. Looks like you are perfect for that bike and you look good on it.
Thanks BikerDan!
You're Welcome! :)
Hi. Doodle!! Just wondering, who makes the crash bars on your bike? I’m trying to find similar ones for my 2005 s40. By the way your videos have helped me a bunch, thanks.
I'm not sure they came with the bike, but they look like these: www.amazon.com/Suzuki-990A0-73001-Chrome-Engine-Guard/dp/B0027JCASW
I have the Suzuki gz250 which is very much like the Savage/s40 but much smaller. I'm going to be getting the s40 eventually and other than the larger displacement should be feeling very familiar to me. You have a great bike! 😎
+Christopher Strebel that's awesome!! I hope you like it!!
Great bikes for all around-- be safe
I have an 06 s40 it’s a fun bike it’s a bit small I’m 6ft and it’s a little snug but that doesn’t matter too much. For a beginners or some one who likes a smaller bike that’s fun, and easy to work on
This bike is beautiful!!. How is this a 2000's model.
Stunning motorcycle. I really want this.
This likely will be my next bike. I like the size and power of a 600 for intown riding. Plus this bike has a single thumper. Nice.
awesome!! I'd recommend it for those not needing to go highway speeds a lot
@@DoodleOnAMotorcycle
I’ve found a used 2019 Suzuki Boulevard S40 in blue color with 1,700 miles for $5,995. Is that a good deal?
I just got mine in green I love it.
Nice!!
Great video but one of the best things I like about bike riding is the feel of the wind on my chest, You have picked one of the best bikes out there for a cruiser. I love mine but the gas tank is a bit small for doing long trips on the back roads, so when I want to go and not worry about finding gas I take my Versys X 300 can get just over 400 Km per tank. I wish that Suzuki would come out with a option of getting a larger tank for the S40 make it look the same look just increase the size to 4 Gallons ( 15 liters ) Then you would have the perfect cruiser for the back roads. If they could make it so you could switch it back and forty with out to much trouble it would be great.
Whoooooa 400 km! I did run out of gas a LOT on my S40 🤪 before I started counting miles
@@DoodleOnAMotorcycle Yes that is the only poor thing about the S 40 just can't get far on a tank of gas. And I like the looks of it just the way it comes, I am going just put a back rest and rear carrier on mine so if I do go on longer trips I can carry some spare gas. But will use the Versys X 300 for most longer rides and to do my shopping as I have 33 liter side bags and don't have to watch for gas stations, just enjoy the back roads. Love watching your videos. If you have never tried the Versys X you should, it is a blast on windy roads and can run it through the gears with out breaking the law. But it dose take some getting use to those high revs. To different bikes and love them bough .
Nice bike and walk around!
thanks! Bahahha your YT name cracked me up
:)
Do you still own this one? I think I took my msf course on a savage.
Love your videos. Looks like you've come along way
I got one for my wife (and a parts bike with a blown motor). It's too cramped for me at 6' tall with long legs and arms, but it's a good bike with all the pep you need.
I thought it might be too small for someone tall!
Doodle On A Motorcycle You are correct! Great bike though.
Doodles got a riding bell! YAY! :)
A gift from RayRay3866! :D
I'm an old man, 61, riding for 40+ years. I'm thinking of getting one of these just because I read they are extremely low maintenance and easy to work on when you do need to fix it. I wonder how well they work for a large man though.
Great vid!! Brand new s40 owner here, I have a couple of upgrades I want to do, replacement seat, shocks and exhaust, but havent really finded any aftermarket parts 4 my bike
Awesome! S40 is a great bike to modify. You should check out RayRay3866's channel he's doing lots of mods on his S40
Hey budd, any mods as of late? I'm lookin fur a solo seat myself
I love this.. wish it was available here in India
I think the Honda Rebel Cruiser is! Looks a lot like it but less CC
The S40 come with hazard lights? That's a nice touch. I bought a switch and added them to my last bike.
Do you have any laws/regulation you have to follow when it comes to modification?😀
Mmm no clue, haven't looked in to modifying at all... RayRay3866 and KillSwitchQueen do a lot of mods on their bikes, they'd probably know....
My wife and I just bought one of these, 2005 as well, taking a safety course next weekend. Would you be able to do a video talking a little bit about what it is like to ride and use a motorcycle with a carburetor?
Hmm... I wouldn't know what to say except you have to pull out the choke when its cold/ hasn't been ridden in a while to start the engine (then put it back in*). I hope she likes the bike!!
**BE SURE to check the oil levels almost weekly! I didn't- and my oil level got so low it destroyed the engine, still in the shop right now :(
Thanks for the tip. I hope you get yours back soo. Getting, and picking out the bike was actually her idea.
one of the prettiest S40s on you tube
Isn’t it thooooo
Did you ever find the cause of the consistent flash ? Any wires touching ? Having the same problem
Hi, thanks for the review. I'm looking at getting an S40 for my next bike. It looks easy to maintain. Without fuel injection, do you have any trouble starting it on cold days?
Hi Jesse! I never did have any trouble starting it on cold days! It was under 10K miles and 10 years old, just had to remember to let the choke out on start, let it run for a bit until I could feel some heat coming off the engine, then put the choke back in before riding on
@@DoodleOnAMotorcycle Great, thanks for the feedback. I can't wait to get one. I really love the old school look. You look very good on the S40, it fits you like a glove.
Hey Doodle! Can you do a video on how to be a passenger and how to carry a passenger? I've had a S40 for about a year now and would like to take my son with me.
+Sherri Hanks I wish I could but I don't know anything about that! I've only been a passenger once and have never had a passenger.
Okay thanks. You would just do so well at it. Your videos are so informative!
Sherri Hanks thanks, Sherry!! I'll have to try and figure out that area- although currently I am bike-less :( bike has been in the shop for 3 weeks
Doodle, where did you get those shorter turn signals from and how hard were they to install?
I had a service shop install them for me, and picked it out from their book in the shop. I can't find the exact model online, but there are plenty of smaller ones! Here's one for instance: www.powersportsplace.com/parts/bkm-26-3035?seid=pspse1&cm_mmc=pla-google-_-shopping-_-pspse1-_-bikemaster&gclid=Cj0KCQiAgNrQBRC0ARIsAE-m-1y-KbQKBL-WBiHIGXwRdnHOF8e1j_6joZPkjzJQglpXlN38tewZHwQaAnzEEALw_wcB
Very nice video, Doodle. It is, however, the oddest-looking stove I've ever seen!!!!! (I'm envious that it has a helmet lock, as my Sportster doesn't)
Bahhaha for real. You can install one! They're not hard to find- even Walmart has some for under $10!
Well, thank you for something I did not know; and to think I've been riding since . . . yikes . . . 1961. I shall research this!
I just purchased a 2018 s40 and I have a bunch of questions since ice been only riding for a few weeks. Was I hard to find your friction zone because that right now is my biggest issue
Answered you with this on the last video - and actually let me add if you got a used bike and haven’t already, I’d recommend taking it to a shop to get a full look over, making sure everything is working properly. Friction zone difficulty could be because it’s just a new concept, or because something is wrong with the clutch! Cross all them T’s
2 questions for ya
Do you prefer tank or dash mounted speedometers?
How accurate is your speedo? my xt's is about 8 percent optimistic.
Dash mounted, definitely! Accuracy.... uh... no clue :D
What size is windshield
Tear off the tank and seat show the rec IGN fuse relay and main line from stator
Yeah I should've! I don't have this bike anymore - got a STRIPLER now
For the life of me I don't understand why Suzuki doesn't put a trip odometer on this bike.
hahah to mess with us
No trip meter? No gas gauge? How the heck do ya tell whe your empty? Hahaha
@@painterboy454 Your are wright but most of us just switched to reserve and headed for a gas station, back then there were lost of them on the back roads but now most are long gone. Now I am 70 I have trouble remembering what it was when I filled up, but still have reserve, and if going where there are no gas stations, will have to have a back up, gas, just so I don't end up pushing.
I wonder what you think of the comparison between the S40 and the Rebel both old and the new version 500 cc. Of course that'd mean you have access to one of those Rebels!
Hmmm.... test ride? ;D
Yeah I love those test ride coverages. Two-Wheel-Obsession does all sort of rides. I also follow ReizePrimus for the Asia scene. Very different riders.
How do you maintain the bike and check for maintenance also for oil change how often do you need to do it
I didn’t with this bike! That’s how I killed it!! ua-cam.com/video/-tP9x22kqJA/v-deo.html it’s different with each bike - usually ever 3000-5000 miles or once a year. Now I refer to my manual and do a safety check up on my whole bike regularly ua-cam.com/video/hKBufGcXK_Y/v-deo.html
I just started to ride and bought a 2017 s40, so far it’s okay but I’m not crazy about it.
Have you done any mods? If so, which websites or brands do you trust? Pls & thx
If theres no fuel gauge and no trip odometer, how do you know when to fill up?.. that's a big concern for me
One tank can go about 150 miles, so I would just fill up every 100 miles. Of course, I forgot sometimes, and would run out and it would just shut off while riding. Switch it to "reserve" and you can go some more miles to go get gas.
I agree w Doodle-- every 100 mi to be safe. You can literally hear the fuel in the tank while the bike's off if you mount it then rock it from side to side
Hi! I just got this bike and wondering if the engine guard you had is the original Suzuki OEM one. It's the only one I can find online and have read it doesn't really protect anything. From your experience dropping the bike, did it at least protect the tank? Or anything? Appreciate some insight.
Can't be sure, haven't had this bike for a couple of years... I remember it being better than nothing but couldn't find anything wider. Really good tip I found on the Ride Like a Pro video was to install some highway pegs on the engine guards upside down, so that when they stick out they act as wider protection
Does it have a low fuel indicator even though there is no gauge? Wondering what he light next to the neutral light is...
No, there’s no low fuel indicator. I just fill mine up as near the even ‘100s’ mark as possible. It has a 2.8 gallon tank and gets between 40 and 50 mpg so I’m putting around 2 gallons in at each fill up. I’ve had to reach down and set the petcock valve to reserve once (it stuttered but never completely died). That got me to the next station just fine.
@@PJ-SC Thanks! That's helpful - I'm finally going on much longer rides but still a newbie and working on technique and my comfort zone. Appreciate the reply. I'll use the 100's trick for sure.
Looks more like Evel Kinevel would ride on for his daredevil stunts.
OOOOOOoooo snap!
can you do a step by step of turning it on?
Sure, girl! I'll have that for you this Friday
Doodle On A Motorcycle Thanks soooo much you rock !!!!!! Our Motorcycle Class is Thursday eeeeek. hope to be cruising like you soon
Sorry girl if I don't get it this Friday it'll be next! This Thursday? whoops I'll be a day late (or week) for you... you'll be cruising before you know it! I was googling how to turn on my s40 about a year and three months ago... :D
No worries. Can't wait to start. Hoping I don't completely stink at it
I hope you like it! We all suck when we start
When starting it up, do you have to hold the clutch lever in?
Yes always! Isn’t that every bike?
@@DoodleOnAMotorcycle omgosh you replied! Right on fellow lady rider🤘
Methinks it'a a Suzuki thing. Both my old Ninja 250 & Yamaha R3s didnt require the "special sequence" to start.
Currently 2 weeks into my new '19 S40. Loving the crusier seat position.
Mad respect, doin' your thing. Ride proud, defensively & always carry.
With props, hailing from East coast FL.
Dear Nice video
Hot dang i wanted to Learn about the S40 but got lost at the Beautiful Woman in the video! Jesus she is adorable
did you have to change the petcock out?
Nope, I kept the old one. Just gotta use two hands to turn it to reserve... I rarely get that low on gas though
It's true, everyone says that about S40 fuel petcock, wassup wit dat?
nope
🏍👍
Is the shark on the risers factory or aftermarket? 😂😝
🤣🤣🤣
Mickey Mouse horn... priceless!
Lol, don't forget to check the oil. Haha!
D':
...Guess that was kind of mean....apologies. :(
lol no worries!
mine is a 1996 and doesn't have the emergency lights option..even if it did i don't run turn signals lol stupid me i know
No emergency lights? nuts!!
How tall are you?
5’3.75”
Do you have info on your after market turn signals?
Your a beautiful doodle on your motorcycle :)
Hey, does the seat come off and how much space is available under it? Also not sure if you showed the fuel petcock.. Am guessing no preload adjustment on the rear suspension? for the beginning of the video, they also differed ergonomically, like the handlebars.. otherwise nice presentation and practical walkaround of your s40. I Appreciate when you mentioned the rear blinkers break off in a tip over.. although havent noticed that when we watched your falls.
I have a 2015 S40. The seat does come off by removing 2 small bolts on either side and a hex-key screw at the rear; however, there is no storage space under the seat. The shocks have 5 spring preload adjustnents (I weigh about 165 pounds with riding gear and use the lowest preload setting). Doodle did mention the petcock ("fuel valve") which is on the left underside of the gas tank.
Rodger Mathews cool, and the lowest you mean the hardest?
Walid Bougaila ....no, I mean the lowest/least amount of spring pre-load. At my relatively light weight, firmer pre-load settings are a bit harsh. For a 200 pound rider, or for carrying a passenger, one would probably increase the spring pre-load.
Hi Walid, thanks for answering Rodger! What he said :D
