I would say Neji deserves more credit here, as both his rival, and his teacher are literally the best taijutsu specialists in the world, and they spar regularly. Sure he relies on the byakugan, but I doubt he'd be excessively crippled by it.
Honestly this is anyone's fight, eliminating the obvious ones unlikely to win.
Pain, or rather Nagato, is literally all power, no hands, he almost exclusively uses rinnegan powers to fight, and depending on the state we're talking, he'd either be mediocre or literally crippled.
Orochimaru getting eliminated is fair, his go tos are literally to send others to fight for him, summon snakes to fight for him, or raise the dead in order to fight for him, even in show that man did literally everything in his power to avoid throwing hands, even before he lost his hands.
Itachi is interesting, since we know that he was a prodigy, and given his ability to keep fighting even while blind and dying, I think he has a better chance than some may think just on sheer talent and grit alone but still fair.
I could go on, but honestly I just find it funny that in hindsight, Kakashi was great acroos the board before, during, and after his time with the sharingan, he may not be the best at throwing hands but he sure as hell competes with him, and he has never had a weak spot in his arsenal except for using too much power all at once.
And he's one of the few we've seen actually use some of the gates besides Lee and Guy.

I believe it would be Asuma. It was stated that "no one is more skilled in close-arm combat" (databook statement, be careful with them). Asuma was also physically as big as Jiraiya, but he was 20 years younger. So I belive it would be him.

Byakugan is needed to see (and thus seal) chakra points but the gentle fist is entirely about inserting chakra into your opponent's body to fuck them up from the inside. No powers means no chakra means Gentle Fist becomes basically useless. If he's got some other taijutsu style he learned, he's in great shape. But he never once in the entire series uses anything other than Gentle Fist, so he's boned. No powers, he'll beat Deva Path (who's a corpse) and Obito (who is literally half a person)
There are few naruto fighting styles that are actually based on real life ones and Neji gentle fist is very much linked to a REAL Chinese martial art. So he's doing way more than just slapping anyone even without chakra damage. That just makes it worse but does not take away from the reality of how powerful it is. Neji takes this dub

Just like Aang without his bending would in theory still be a fighter since his bending is ALSO based on Baguazhang but in practice, both are completely boned when fighting someone whose hand to hand skills isn't remotely hampered by not having chakra/bending.

I hate how underrated Neji is, everywhere by everyone. He was the prodigee from the second branch of his clan, learning the jutsu he was never supposed to learn by just observing lol...and even without his byakugan he would be one of the best Taijutsu speacialists in Konoha. Yeah, he wouldn't beat Guy, he wouldn't beat Lee without Byakugan but he would definitely be on par with Sarutobi.

Itachi? He’s good at Taijutsu yes but his best canon feats are while he has his sharingan engaged which, as we know, increases the users reactions and perception.
Kakashi had an insane taijutsu prowess even in early Naruto without engaging his sharingan. He beats both. Well, he DID beat Obito without his sharingan easily.

You can sa they aren't because you hardly see them without it but itachi was clearly exceptional at everything he was the best we ever seen at throwing weapons like kunai and he was clearly oneof the fastest handspeed ever he was the first and maybe we only saw perform jutsu so fast that the eye couldn't see that means he has fast hands ad would slap you before you could see and uchiha body's are just as exceptional and potentially talented as any other clan matter of dact even more as proven by Sasuke training for a month before finals of the churning exams and got speed like Lee entering the first gate which took Lee years to get to took Sasuke 1 month so Cleary this guys in the video don't know anything about the uchiha. I'd vote for Neji. His speed, strength and reaction time are not enhanced by powers, and he had been training with Might Guy. He had technique that overwhelmed brute strength. Remember, the Byakugan only allowed him to see around himself, not anything else in regards to physical skills. He had developed those separately.
The Byakugan was also shown to still have advanced kinetic vision, as well as the ability to precisely spot tenketsus. Also Gentle Fist is literally Neji's entire Taijutsu arsenal, and that's a damn power if I've ever seen one.
Gentle fist is all about internal attacks, he actually doesn't hit people, so his training without his powers is next to useless.

Even Lee uses Chakara to boost his abilities. Kakashi being top 3 is because he has good technique, but Jiraiya also has technique because he is a physical fighter, and is built like a shit brick house.

Look at Dragonball kid Goku biggest disadvantage and primary reason he was taking L's was because his height and size was a huge negative. Asuma is a straight boxer. Since he prioritizes his chakra blades, kicks aren't a large part of his arsenal, but footwork obviously is. Knife boxing is essentially what he uses and translates well to bare knuckle boxing. Additionally he's an in fighter type boxer, he rushes in and deals lots of damage.
Jiraiya is the definition of a brawler being refined into a proper fighter through consistent training and experience. He's not technical, but knows how to fight, how to make it hurt, and how to end it quickly. With no powers, that trait will shine through most.
Asuma being a pure boxer doesn't help him when everyone else are well adept at kickboxing/taijutsu.
@@minorears5205 that would be true for traditional sport boxing, but a way for a boxer to handle kicks is footwork like a fencer. Don't stand there and take the kick, move around. Or he can step into the range of the kick, cut the power of the kick in half and be in range for his own punches. There's a counter and response to everything.
He did kick the everloving dog shit out of a few of the dudes Shikamaru caught in part 1. Like go rewatch there are some NASTY kicks from Asuma in that fight.

Disqualifying Obito and Itachi was just an easy cop out. We literally see them both throw hands with other Uchiha which would even the fight out because both would have ocular jutsu supporting them and they still won. Not to mention Itachi literally threw hands with KCM 1 Naruto, wether he has ocular jutsu or not he’s still highly physically capable to trade blows with someone much faster and stronger than the freaking Raikage.
Itachi is folding Kakashi going by the shows scaling.

And with Obito, we see him using Taijutsu, but we also see him losing to Kakashi regularly. And when itachi threw hands with Naruto, he was a dead man walking and had no limits within the living realm anymore. Hard to count that as what he's capable of as a living being.

So true. He and Asuma are best here for it, everyone with a born dojutsu is automatically disqualified and it’s obvious the snake and toad are more ninjutsu heavy as well. Neji is difficult though despite being Byakugan dependent, his everyday taijutsu practice may lend him really decent fighting. Personally I think Asuma would be best mostly cause he uses weapons better than the others

For everyone saying Neji still wins; remember the gentle fist only works if you are able to inject your chakra into a person's chakra network. No powers in this fight, so no chakra injection. Gentle fist is completely ineffective.
Boruto himself brings evidence to support this, he knows the Gentle Fist to some extent but without the Byakugan he can’t target chakra points, so he just doesn’t use it offensively at all in combat.
yeah but that doesnt mean EVERY attack he lands is an attempt to disrupt the chakra network. this is a guy that has never lost a hand to hand fight to rock lee, a shinobi that specializes in taijutsu and doesnt rely on his chakra network to enable ninjutsu attacks. i might be wrong but, i dont see the point of disrupting the chakra network of a person who doesnt rely on chakra to fight. so if hes beating him in taijutsu, its off the pure strength of his hand to hand fighting ability. not a specific technique.

Kakashi has some of the best taijutsu in the series. Considering he sparred with Guy on the regular his hands are top notch.

Technique without magic powers or the strength to back it up will only go so far with larger opponents used to hitting and getting hit much harder. There is a reason you find videos of soft style kungfu practitioners getting rocked by boxers, Muay Thai, and mma fighters (instead of compliant sycophants) but not the other way around.

I feel like if you let them keep their intelligence, Neji does this effortlessly. He's entirely memorized typical internal anatomy of a human being through years of using the Byakugan, so he can still hit pressure points and cause precision organ damage just by what is effectively muscle-memory. At the same time, the gentle-fist style is by definition AGILE AS FUCK so he's going to be straight-up dodging every punch from whoever he's facing.
Not only that, Kakashi reached jonin way before he got his sharingan, it helped a lot later on, but it still was just that, only extra help, he already had hands.

Sleeping on Itachi, I get Obito because his fighting style heavily relied on Kamui but Itachi was always immensely talented even before the sharingan. He has precision incomparable to basically anyone else his age. Itachi mastered all three jutsu’s (Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, and Taijutsu) before ever acquiring Sharingan, plus his beyond genius level IQ it’s gotta be between him and Jiraya, especially considering Itachi had the chakra sickness holding him back physically 24/7, without it he would be insane.
