One of the best band that ever made canto before and came out with such a well trained voice and such a sharp mind for writing songs and getting the tempo and sound super-duper!
A big favourite group of all time! Super chuffed they play in Auckland New Zealand this February. Naturally I have a very good ticket at a really good venue for them!
I can not understand the comments here making comparisons with the Woody Herman original which was/is a big band offering. Manhattan Transfer so brilliantly adopted the arrangement and this is surely a wonderful tribute to the great man. We are very lucky to be able to enjoy both.
Take a seat and cool it 'cause unless you overrule it We are ready to show you some blowin' A rompin' and a stompin' is a lot of fun Four brothers who are blowin' our horns So settle down an' listen 'cause you don't know what you're missin' And we're ready to give you a showin' A movin' it 'n groovin' it has just begun Four brothers who are blowin' our horns We got a little message that you're gonna enjoy Ain't no sense in dodgin' the facts So settle in your easy chair an' if you ever had a care - forget it, It's time to relax We might as well admit it, we're the best that ever did it But in case you ain't too sure a knowin' We're gonna let you listen to us one by one Four brothers who are blowin' our horns How'd ya do, I'm talkin' about you It's very nice to know that you have really taken time to listen to me blow 'Cause as sure as I'm born, I'm blowin' my horn It's me baby, I'm blowin', zootin' it up And I hope you dig the sounds I'm makin' more'n any other Now I must go for it's time for you to listen to my other brother I think the chick's talkin' 'bout me so I'd better go 'n see I'm hip that she knows a horn is very best to greet you That's the reason I'm blowin' so snappily I don't know what ya got, but it thrills me an' I hope to have a lot
MHT Does an A+ plus job on this... The fact that they put sax into words is amazing. Comparing them to Woody is like comparing Led Zeppelin doing Mary Had a Little Lamb and Mister Rogers... ya, now you get it...Not one is better than the other, but they both have respectable excellent style/performance.
Woodys is the original. Is that what you were implying or was it something else. Either way, Woody recorded this originally in 1947 with Stan Getz, Serge Chaloff, et al. So from what your saying Woody's is the best? Because I think it is.
You're right,Woody Herman's version is so much better, because of the instruments practically..Their music is very good,I mean it,even thou it's true Manhattan Transfer made the words for their song so that at least makes them good :)
Major kudos to Jon Hendricks, who came up with all of the brilliant lyrics to all of the songs on Vocalese.
One of the best groups of our time. what talent, so sorry for their loss.
Thank you for your musicality. RIP.
