Watching the conductor was a show in itself. Four Brothers is a highly charged energetic piece, it should be played (and conducted) that way. Great interpretation of Woody's masterpiece. Thanks!
First heard the Hird's recording in 1955 in Libya - blown away then - still marvel at it. Well done fellas all for carrying it forward and onward. Smashin'!
I recognize Ben Kono from my days with the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop in NYC. He played on all of our new music sessions and the concerts too. Great player and a great guy too.
Just imagine if these guys could find (in all that Big City) a girl who could do for them and this tune what Anita O'Day did for it with Les Brown and many others. Just imagine....
Well done! Kudos for taking on a great Woody Herman chart - one of the best big band charts there is. Take the tempo down about 5-10% and it will be even better. Comes across a bit rushed. Still though, very nice.
@@rkomada88 lol the title is not 3 tenors and 1bari brothers. Yes that is the instrumentation of the woody, who gives a rats @ss what combo of saxes there is. This chart is pretty jiving.
Bustradore VI ......jazz history is what it is, I don't make the history behind the piece. Also, the "4 brothers sound" was an extremely important specific instrumentation that remained in all of Herman's bands after this period, and heavily influenced people like Miles Davis and Oliver Nelson. You want to tell me those musicians are not important? I'm not backing down from my position.
@@rkomada88 You do not have to back down from any position. I just dont give a rats @ss what combo of saxes there are, the cats are jiving, and the chart is called four brothers not 3 tenor and a bari brother. I agree that 3 tenors and a bari is the traditional structure. Jazz is so cool that they can smash traditions. Miles smashed traditions right before he died, he played some dank smooth jazz and beeches brew. Very innovative stuff, thats what is fresh and dope.n
Zoot Sims, Serge Chaloff, Herbie Steward and Stan Getz, in that order, in 1947, in the Second Herd. Woody doing the clarinet bit.
My Uncle Zoot Sims would have love this. Great Job.
He's your uncle?!!!!!
Wonderful performance, wish I could have been there!
Wow! Bravo, all. Outstanding performance of a challenging masterpiece.
Can't re-listen enough! Just Great. Great........
Fantastic
Really doing this classic number justice! Jimmy Guiffre, Woody Herman, Shorty Rogers, and the rest like Terry Gibbs were incredible.
i love the solo that the bari sax plays, and im surprised it projects well

Perfect version! Great band! Bravo!
Fantastic! I love Four Brothers.
Ron Wasserman is the coolest conductor! Icy!
Outstanding performance. Jimmy G, Stan, Zoot, Herbie and Serge plus Woody are smiling down at this awesome orchestra!
killing it
... so muss es klingen, und nicht anders.
Good!
I recently transcribed a chord chart for this number and it's so dang fast my hats go off to any band who takes a shot at this one!
God is plenty of joy hearing this !

REALMENTE!!!
Esse é um Clássico Absoluto da Orquestração Bop de Woody Herman e revivida 68 anos depois maravilhosamente pela New York JAZZHARMONIC!!!
Bravo. Love this tune. First heard it by the Thundering Herd.
Wonderful concert -- the finale to the 57th season of the Washington Square Music Festival, Greenwich Village, New York.
The most interpretive conducting style---whatever moves. Great sound and quality.
Good setup and recording.

Wow! Tremendous players! 🙌🏻😃

Pretty white. Just saying. My junior high band director..Vern Hays..played trumpet in that band.. straight up
Play at 0,75 x
It's not 3 Tenors and a Baritone, so not really 4 Brothers. Awesome playing otherwise.
THE TITLE REFERS TO foUR SAX PLAYERS IN UNISON! wGATEVER THEIR COMBINATION!
JEEP JOCKEY .....NO. The Four Brothers sound is specifically 3 Tenors and 1 Baritone. Nothing else. Period.
