I lived in Japan shortly after this song came out. One of my earliest memories of Japan was that all of the construction workers looked like the Beastie Boys. 😂
Those outfits were also all over those large monster shows too which is what I think they were going for. Didn't matter if it was Godzilla or Ultraman.
You'll never convince me that there's ever been a hip hop group or artist more creative, clever, talented and just all around fun as The Beastie Boys. Fucking LEGENDS.
I’ve always tried to imagine the first time they played this beat for their record company and everyone in the room just simultaneously pissed their pants with the thought of how much money they were going to make.
Wait til you hear the production quality on their album “Paul’s Boutique” (my favorite album). It’s gonna blow you away. Love the channel brotha. Keep up the good work!
That's what it's about man- fun. It's never too late to pick up something new to you. Been listening to the boys since '85. Saw them in '94. Q-Tip and Cypress Hill made special appearances for a couple tracks on stage. It was every bit as good as when I saw RUN-DMC bust into Aerosmith's set for "Walk This Way" by surprise. The whole lawn at Star Lake Amphitheater flooded the stage and pit area for both acts. You wanna talk about FIRE? 😂 Great reaction.
This entire album was a wonder at time. Going along their journey from a pre-teen (License to Ill), thru the MASSIVELY UNDERRATED Paul's Boutique, which was so sample-dense nothing like it could ever be made again, was a real trip. But then altrock happened, and the Beasties surprisingly met it with back-to-back bangers. Can't afford samples anymore? Fuck it we'll play our own instruments and make our own samples! Check Your Head & Ill Communication were filthy, perfectly under-produced masterpieces. So for them to turn around and suddenly, after a loooong hiatus, drop a sonic marvel like Hello Nasty was just genius! The production's clean and tight, the tweak-scratches are otherworldly, and the Beastie Boys reinvented themselves yet again. They were always innovators. RIP Yauch. ✌️
One thing I love about this era of hiphop was how wildly varied some of the styles were. The artists you were talking about in part 1, like, Jay, DMX, OutKast, Juvenile, all completely different styles of hiphop. It was awesome. And Beastie Boys were always completely different and off in their own lane, I love their thing where all three would chorus on the rhyme to make it hit harder. So dope.
I love watching you watch Beastie boys. If I get bored I just watch you watch them and it reminds me of me when I first got on them years back. You can’t help but smile. Subscribed bro. Keep up the good work x
Are you kidding me? As a Gen X'r back in the day, these guys would drop a video, and we all lost our minds. I drove across country blasting the hours of my a little old Honda accord 😅
Beasties will bump up your views and engagement for sure. Please try Paul Revere, then High Plaines Drifter by them. Paul Revere is from their first album, High Plaines Drifter is from the second. The two songs have a similar storytelling theme that kind of ties them together in a way.
one of my FAV album is 'the mix up'. all instrumental grammy winning. i completely dispised beastie boys at first - they sampled led zep~ omg! f.fwd years later & i love everything they ever did! i hear so many awesome influences in their sounds it's unbelievable!
Beastie Boys were able to make amazing music without vulgar lyrics and great music and rhymes. NOTHING today can match what the Beastie Boys did back in the day.
