listen to this comment to further introduce you into the Beastie Boys....You can be easily be misled to a lesser song. 3 mc's and One Dj and Shake your rump would be my next to further educate your view of them. Legends.
Check out half of Ren Gill's videos... he even has a song called "What you Want" that is a total homage to the Beastie Boys... but anyway, Ren got a lot of one-take videos that would probably blow your sock off... and he makes most of his own beats too, also plays piano, guitar, etc
I'm a 50 year old white dude that was 12 years old when Licensed to Ill dropped, I was mainly into heavy metal at the time but when I heard this record it opened the gateway for me to rap music. All my white, black and mexican friends living in Long Beach California at the time had this tape and was blasting it from their boom boxes daily!!! God all those old memories were so awesome, please please if you have the time react to BRASS MONKEY, that shit was dope as hell!!
They filmed most of this video in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Shinjuku JR train station is actually the busiest train station in the world, and people were just trying to get to their destination.
“Shake your rump”, “3 MC’s and 1 DJ”, “Root Down” and “Hey Ladies” are also the phenomenal. This is a rabbit hole worth diving into. These guys are a gold mine of hip hop. It’s pretty ridiculous how many great songs these guys have.
Ren gets so much inspiration from these guys. You can tell, not just from the song and video for 'what you want" , but in a ton of his videos, from using the streets as a literal stage to the use of so e if the different camera lenses and angles. Amazing. I grew up with these guys. We had so much good music back then.
The Beastie Boys are ICONS!!! They started out originally as a hardcore band, but then leaned into rap and hip-hop, before ultimately combining the two . There's nobody like them, truly! And oh, man; This song still makes me dance like crazy every single time. What a banger of all time!!! Shake Your Rump is another song of theirs that I always jam out to, if you'd like to check it out...
Their first few big hits were Paul Revere, She's Crafty, New Style, from 1986. Then 1989's whole album Paul's boutique, was awesome. Check your Head had a few greats like Whatcha whatcha want. They continued to get more mature and musical as they continued. Beastie Boys, 1981-2012
They're OG's of hip hop, check out some of their older stuff from the 80's - 90's.... Brass Monkey, 3 Dj's, Girls, Fight for your ritlght to party, Paul revere
You should check out some of their earlier work too. I’d recommend “Paul Revere” and “The New Style” both are absolute 🔥. You should also out the song they did with Nas “Too Many Rappers”. These guys are hip hop royalty, absolutely iconic.
You can see where Ren got his inspiration for what you want! Total homage to the beastie boys! Love you’re going down this rabbit hole! grew up with the boys, man! Part of my childhood! Love you’re checking them out!! ❤✌️ love from an OG!
@@terryconnelly484 he only produced license to ill, they had a falling out after that and there was a whole dispute over Rubin not paying them royalties. Mario C became a main producer later on
Interestingly all the subways shots were filmed gorilla style, no permits, no notice, no security, unheard of!! .. Paul's Boutique deserves more credit as it definitely changed music at that point. The Beasties and The Dust Brother together changed music forever. Yes, they created as much of their own music that they could, bass riffs, drums, drum loops, beats, etc!!
Dust Brothers production (around 3-4 years before the did the epicly weird but funky Fight Club movie soundtrack - I dare you to listen to some of that soundtrack on here (in your own time, no need to rec it) and not get reminded of the backing sounds on this track) Brilliant reaction!
Adrock makes the beats and does the scratching up until mixmastermike joins. Hurricane was a touring DJ. When they plat as a band MCA plays bass, MikeD drums and Adrock plays guitar and sings.
That beat "DROP" is from DJ Magic Mike. He is actually still producing. MM was part of the Bass craze in the late 80s/90s. Bass for your Face was the mantra. [ua-cam.com/video/CrGZzYZNLPQ/v-deo.html&pp=ygUbZGogbWFnaWMgbWlrZSBkcm9wIHRoZSBiYXNz]
If you're into it, the site Who Sampled is awesome since they queue up exact spots. Some are kind of ambiguous, but mostly vetted. The site has blown me away with some artist/songs that I never would have guessed contained samples. Search magic mike on there and you can see in the "sampled from" part what I'm talking about, puts two vids right next to each other, with timestamps. Really a killer site!

Beastie Boys were real MCs, in other words, they didn't just rap, they knew how to get the party started. They famously worked with DJ Mix Master Mike, who won so many consecutive DJ contests, they had to ask him to stop entering so somebody else could win. If you wanna check out a video where the Beastie Boys perform alongside Mix Master Mike scratching for them, check out "Three MCs and One DJ"
I don't think this is a good one to start with, I think you need to start with the License to Ill album (every song in my opinion), then the funky Paul's Boutique album...but then again I'm an crusty old man that likes to do things chronologically, hahahha!!! I love your energy on these reactions!! 🤟❤🤍💙

"They goofy" is probably one of the realest comments ever made about Beastie Boys. 😂
Humor is a major part of any beastie track. They never took themselves too seriously.
