shoutout to you POLO, not everyone appreciates Primus when they first listen to it, it requires an open mind, or open ears. Its unique, it's weird, it's Primus. Keep up the good work!
@@Zizie_sc yes!! best soundtrack to any game in my opinion, I still have the playlist saved on spotify of the whole soundtrack & listen to it more than I care to admit lmao
That's cool man. I never learned to play bass but always wanted to; ever since the day my buddy put his Walkman headphones on me and played Anesthesia/ Pulling Teeth by Chris Burton. Blew my mind that a bass could sound like that! My dad found out I liked bass guitar and introduced me to the Parliament Funkadelic...😂
There are plenty of AMAZING bass players out there whose fans could rightly take issue with this statement, but MOST of them would put Clay Cesspool on their "short list," no matter WHAT genre of music floats their boat. 🙏
I absolutely LOVE how many different genres you're diving into! From opera and country and metal I love it all! So happy we get to go on this journey with you!
The thing that blows my mind is that this is essentially playing two different bass lines at the same time - one with one hand and one with the other. Then he sings over it. You want some cymbals too Les?
Primus is fire! From the very beginning. They did their own thing, it's heavy but it's just another world. Great reaction. Know that there's an insane amount of Primus out there waiting to be heard.
Just watched the Parabola video and then this popped up. Your videos transported me back to 1993 lollapalooza RATM and Tool were first on stage. (Both just came out with first Major Album) The night ended with Alice In Chains and Then Primus. What a great day out on UNO Lakefront Arena in New Orleans. I appreciate your videos brother.
I haven't watched this is so many years and forgot totally about the nachos. 😂 And I can always love when you are really liking a song because you get that little grin that's really barely visible unless you watch a lot of your reactions. Awesome reaction 😊 Over the Falls is a good one. The vocals sound so different than a lot of their songs.
I saw these guys live with a band called Rasputina (metal band with 2 cellos and a drum kit). It was one of the best shows I've ever been to. Pure art.
Tony Hawk Pro Skater had the best soundtrack on a video game PERIOD. POLO you should react to Falling in Reverse - Popular Monster, awesome mix of Rap and Metal!
Busta Rhymes is the most genius comparison I've ever heard. You won't find anything like Primus where you might expect it, but cross a boundary or two and you see Busta showcasing world beating, transcendent talent and living outside the box. That's Primus. F the norm. The talent transcends.
They absolutely wanted to be different but at the same time I can tell you that Rush was one of their biggest influences. I saw them in June 2022. All their material... intermission... And then they played A Farewell to Kings in its entirety. And then a few more of their own tunes and it was one of the best concerts I've ever seen.
I had tickets to the Primus "Tribute to Kings" tour but wasn't able to attend the show. :( However, I *have* been Primus open for Rush and *that* was an awesome show!
Polo glad I discovered your channel man, breath of fresh air to see someone just react naturally to a song or band instead of going crazy for views. Love the channel man
I still remember playing Tony Hawk's 1 on PSX and being blown away by this song. The whole soundtrack was fire, but like you said, this is just so different from everything else. To this day I'd say this song has the nastiest and most unique groove ever put to tape.
I’ve heard this song many times before, but it’s been a while, and I just realized that the heavy part sounds a whole lot like a car engine revving up 🤯🤯🤯
I think they're still the only band with their own official genre tag. I mean there are other really out there bands but I can't think of any other band that has such a unique easily identifiable sound.
5:11 the goosebumps, its like an epiphany, when you finally get pulled so deep into an aesthetic that you can almost feel and understand all the creative energy that went into someone's art. edit- i never hear people mention it, so maybe its just so obvious that it doesnt need to be stated, but the bass switch up sounds just like engines revving.
I am really interested in the fact the first thing you noticed were the percussion rhythms. See that tells me you’re really listening with an open mind and trying to figure out where this crazy ride is going. So many people get caught up in the mystique of Les Claypool and they forget there is an extremely talented group of musicians around him. And fyi if anyone wants to know: that last scene of the monster on the nachos with the boat just before the dog walks up, is a reference to the album title which this song was on, “Sailing the seas of cheese”
This was my intro to Primus, watching this video. Watching Les dance around in longjohns and that civil war kepi, listening to that bass riff and that heavy part in the middle and end. I had to get some more of that. Immediately went out and got Sailing the Seas of Cheese and saw them a few months later when they opened for Anthrax and Public Enemy. I was all in.
@POLO REACTS when you said that Primus has their own sound, you might like to know that in a lot of music ID3 genre-tagging software, where you see Funk or Metal or Ambient, you'll also find "Primus", the only such category I found that is an actual name of a singular band.
I saw them live towards the end of Slayer s final tour in 2019... only thing better was hearing "Rein in Blood" preformed live. Ministry was good as well...
For further Primus listening, I highly suggest Poetry and Prose (a song written for the cartoon series Beavis and Butthead), or the live "Suck on This" performances of Harold the Rock, or if you want to see their drummer go off, Jellikit.
First time I heard this song... man let me tell you... that drop after he says "Go!" and just wrecks everything with that insane bass... the place i was at massively erupted into a mosh pit. They clearly expected it. I did not. It BLEW my mind.
My dad told me to come in to the living room that I was going to like this and it was this video and he was right I basically only listened to Primus relentlessly for 2 years.
Love it, man! A couple that weren't really mainstream but are fun musically is Camelback Cinema or Southbound Pachyderm. I'm also going to keep offering John The Fisherman and Mr. Krinkle.
idk, may not remember but this was on Tony Hawk Pro Skater for ps1 so might have heard it before actually. If you played video games in '99 you heard this & CKY
My life changed after hearing Sailing the Seas of Cheese,”. Shout out to that random guy in high school back in ‘92 that gave me a copy of the album, thanks man.
Les Claypool tried out for Metallica before this album dropped I believe. It was rifht after their original bassist Cliff Burton died in a hirrible bus accident overseas while on tour. When Les came in to audition the entire band for Metallica knew this guy was his own creature lol. They just shook his hand and moved onto the next bassist lol. While you are at it, you should look up Infectious Grooves. They were an offshoot of Suicidal Tendencies and had Robert Trujilio on bass. Its a masterpiece on rock funk!!

He also caught a reasonably normal song.
He did Wynona's Big Brown Beaver already
Not that weird. You are just uneducated. They are fun but kinda like a cheap residents knock off
The first time I heard Primus I hated their music and now they’re my favorite band lol

This was the first Primus song I ever heard, and I've never been the same.
Tony Hawk Pro Skater?

True
Tim Alexander on this track
Herb!!
Tim Herb is my favourite drummer of all time. Period. You find the best of him on Tales from the punchbowl album. It's just out of this world !
Brain's good too, don't forget him. Brown Album is crunchy.
Holy shit Tool and Primus on the same day?!! Let's go!!

This whole album just killed me back in the day. Influenced me to play bass. That was 31 years ago, I still play bass. Truly a unique and killer Band.
as a young bassist, the moment I realized what I was hearing here was bass.... exploded my brain

I will not miss a Primus reaction!!!
If you ever get a chance, go see them live. They're incredible.
I’ve seen them in small venues and huge arenas. They never disappoint
Late 90s in St. Louis. I would have loved to in the early 90s when I lived in Riverside, CA
They still play?
I actually don't know. I'm old, so my comment is based on things that happened 25 years ago.@@HatsuneM1ku01
They are on tour right now Feb 1st 2024
You will love Primus live version of Tommy the Cat at Bonnaroo 2011. It is mind blowing.
Primus is fire! From the very beginning. They did their own thing, it's heavy but it's just another world.
Great reaction.

that break down always blows me away with how accurately sounding Les makes the bass sound like a race car flooring it

Gotta let sink in that Les is killin it on the bass while singing like his hands work completely apart from the rest of his body.

"Man, that hits... nasty......Wow." ... Indeed. I think every Primus fan has had exactly this reaction when they heard this the first time.
AND he is singing this rap while laying down the sickest bass lines, hard ass slapping Mo Fo!
