shoutout to you POLO, not everyone appreciates Primus when they first listen to it, it requires an open mind, or open ears. Its unique, it's weird, it's Primus. Keep up the good work!
He also caught a reasonably normal song.
He did Wynona's Big Brown Beaver already
Not that weird. You are just uneducated. They are fun but kinda like a cheap residents knock off
The first time I heard Primus I hated their music and now they’re my favorite band lol
Primus sucks
This was the first Primus song I ever heard, and I've never been the same.
Tony Hawk Pro Skater?
Yes!
And ATV Off-road Fury for me XD
@@Zizie_sc yes!! best soundtrack to any game in my opinion, I still have the playlist saved on spotify of the whole soundtrack & listen to it more than I care to admit lmao
The same in 91, man
same same.
Their drummer never gets enough love. He's ridiculous
True
Tim Alexander on this track
Herb!!
Tim Herb is my favourite drummer of all time. Period. You find the best of him on Tales from the punchbowl album. It's just out of this world !
Brain's good too, don't forget him. Brown Album is crunchy.
Holy shit Tool and Primus on the same day?!! Let's go!!
Yeah, couldn't have been a better day!
Dude a Trifecta! Rammstein as well 🤘
I’ve seen Primus open for Tool!
@@benkelly71822016 tour?
Les Claypool is widely regarded as the best bass player ever. He is amazing.
Like…ever
There are plenty of AMAZING bass players out there whose fans could rightly take issue with this statement, but MOST of them would put Clay Cesspool on their "short list," no matter WHAT genre of music floats their boat. 🙏
This whole album just killed me back in the day. Influenced me to play bass. That was 31 years ago, I still play bass. Truly a unique and killer Band.
as a young bassist, the moment I realized what I was hearing here was bass.... exploded my brain
That's cool man. I never learned to play bass but always wanted to; ever since the day my buddy put his Walkman headphones on me and played Anesthesia/ Pulling Teeth by Chris Burton. Blew my mind that a bass could sound like that! My dad found out I liked bass guitar and introduced me to the Parliament Funkadelic...😂
Heard this song for the first time while playing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater for the original Playstation and was hooked.
THPS!
Awww shit boi, he already got that PRIMUS head nod down! Welcome brother!
The thing that blows my mind is that this is essentially playing two different bass lines at the same time - one with one hand and one with the other. Then he sings over it. You want some cymbals too Les?
I absolutely LOVE how many different genres you're diving into! From opera and country and metal I love it all! So happy we get to go on this journey with you!
You will love Primus live version of Tommy the Cat at Bonnaroo 2011. It is mind blowing.
I will not miss a Primus reaction!!!
If you ever get a chance, go see them live. They're incredible.
I’ve seen them in small venues and huge arenas. They never disappoint
Late 90s in St. Louis. I would have loved to in the early 90s when I lived in Riverside, CA
They still play?
I actually don't know. I'm old, so my comment is based on things that happened 25 years ago.@@HatsuneM1ku01
They are on tour right now Feb 1st 2024
"Dog will Hunt" quoted from Texas Chainsaw 2
5:11 the goosebumps, its like an epiphany, when you finally get pulled so deep into an aesthetic that you can almost feel and understand all the creative energy that went into someone's art.
edit-
i never hear people mention it, so maybe its just so obvious that it doesnt need to be stated, but the bass switch up sounds just like engines revving.
In the song "Mr. Krinkle" they describe their sound as "a cross between Jimi Hendrix, Bocephus [Hank Williams Jr.], Cher, and James Brown."
Just watched the Parabola video and then this popped up. Your videos transported me back to 1993 lollapalooza RATM and Tool were first on stage. (Both just came out with first Major Album) The night ended with Alice In Chains and Then Primus. What a great day out on UNO Lakefront Arena in New Orleans. I appreciate your videos brother.
Busta Rhymes is the most genius comparison I've ever heard. You won't find anything like Primus where you might expect it, but cross a boundary or two and you see Busta showcasing world beating, transcendent talent and living outside the box. That's Primus. F the norm. The talent transcends.
This was my intro to Primus, watching this video. Watching Les dance around in longjohns and that civil war kepi, listening to that bass riff and that heavy part in the middle and end. I had to get some more of that. Immediately went out and got Sailing the Seas of Cheese and saw them a few months later when they opened for Anthrax and Public Enemy. I was all in.
They absolutely wanted to be different but at the same time I can tell you that Rush was one of their biggest influences. I saw them in June 2022. All their material... intermission... And then they played A Farewell to Kings in its entirety. And then a few more of their own tunes and it was one of the best concerts I've ever seen.
I actually put up a Patreon request for Rush. Hopefully he sees it soon
Rush + King Crimson + Weird = Primus
@@bigstupidgrin not at all
I had tickets to the Primus "Tribute to Kings" tour but wasn't able to attend the show. :( However, I *have* been Primus open for Rush and *that* was an awesome show!
I was lucky enough to be at both of those instances in Atlanta!!!!! @@TheCocoaDaddy
I haven't watched this is so many years and forgot totally about the nachos. 😂
And I can always love when you are really liking a song because you get that little grin that's really barely visible unless you watch a lot of your reactions.
Awesome reaction 😊
Over the Falls is a good one. The vocals sound so different than a lot of their songs.
Great observation about their humorousness; it’s a cool contrast to the seriousness of their ability and musicality.
AND he is singing this rap while laying down the sickest bass lines, hard ass slapping Mo Fo!
First time I heard this song... man let me tell you... that drop after he says "Go!" and just wrecks everything with that insane bass... the place i was at massively erupted into a mosh pit. They clearly expected it. I did not. It BLEW my mind.
Primus is fire! From the very beginning. They did their own thing, it's heavy but it's just another world.
Great reaction.
Know that there's an insane amount of Primus out there waiting to be heard.
"Man, that hits... nasty......Wow." ... Indeed. I think every Primus fan has had exactly this reaction when they heard this the first time.
Those Damned Blue-Collar Tweekers *Live and John the Fisherman.
YES!!
He uses the little bass slides to make it sound like a race car whizzin by
And the “Ahhhhh” part he sings before that is the car coming toward you!
This and John the Fisherman are my favorite Primus songs. So good
This was the song that introduced me to Primus, and I was instantly hooked! 32 yeas later, I'm still blown away by their genius.
I saw these guys live with a band called Rasputina (metal band with 2 cellos and a drum kit). It was one of the best shows I've ever been to. Pure art.
The double bass drums on this are like an automatic weapon.....🔥
My life changed after hearing Sailing the Seas of Cheese,”. Shout out to that random guy in high school back in ‘92 that gave me a copy of the album, thanks man.
Such a pleasure to watch/listen to a reaction by someone who really gets Primus.
My favourite part of this song is the sound byte from Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Bill Mosley’s Choptop screaming, “ Hehehehe!!! Dog will hunt!!!”
First bass line I learnt from primus still love it now
Bay Area represented- glad you enjoyed!🔥🔥🔥
I still remember playing Tony Hawk's 1 on PSX and being blown away by this song. The whole soundtrack was fire, but like you said, this is just so different from everything else. To this day I'd say this song has the nastiest and most unique groove ever put to tape.
This came on my drive home yesterday and right away thought about your channel reacting to it lol. Here we are.
I saw Coheed and Cambria open for Primus who then opened for Tool… I’ll never forget that
I like a comment someone else made elsewhere that Primus is the band you get if you have a guitar solo, a bass solo, and a drum solo, all going at once. 😄
Tony Hawk Pro Skater had the best soundtrack on a video game PERIOD. POLO you should react to Falling in Reverse - Popular Monster, awesome mix of Rap and Metal!
"he he he he.. Dog will hunt!"
My favorite bar.
First Primus song I heard.....there's no going back!!
I am really interested in the fact the first thing you noticed were the percussion rhythms. See that tells me you’re really listening with an open mind and trying to figure out where this crazy ride is going. So many people get caught up in the mystique of Les Claypool and they forget there is an extremely talented group of musicians around him.
And fyi if anyone wants to know: that last scene of the monster on the nachos with the boat just before the dog walks up, is a reference to the album title which this song was on, “Sailing the seas of cheese”
I saw them open up for Rush. Two of the best bass and Drum players at the same show.
My favorite primus tracks “ballad of bodacious” “greet the sacred cow” “hennipin crawler”
When I think of Primus, I think of this song.
DOG WILL HUNT
I think they're still the only band with their own official genre tag. I mean there are other really out there bands but I can't think of any other band that has such a unique easily identifiable sound.
The drums IS hitting! Tim made the band, they all did, but Herb is so f***ing good!
This is filmed at The Phoenix Theater in Petaluma, Ca. These guys are my homies. East Bay baby!
Glad I got to see them when they toured for this album !
Every new video I watch of you, you've learned alot about them. 1st, that they have to do everything weird. Love it about them.
After I listened to Primus I picked up a dipping habit overnight! Damn you Claypool!
My favorite Primus song thank you for the review
All three of these guys are all super bad ass musicians
Polo glad I discovered your channel man, breath of fresh air to see someone just react naturally to a song or band instead of going crazy for views. Love the channel man
The entire Sailing the Seas of Cheese album is worth a reaction. I don't think there's a bad song on there.
i cant thumbs up enough. Great reaction! Love you
serious band with extremely talented imagination that was incredible live. Cane out barefoot and a dude with a jug, and yes he played. SO MUCH FUN
In the 90’s, we’d have this blasting out a set of kickers on our way to skate. Damn near rattle the doors off
Back in the day when all your music got loaded into iTunes the genre tag for Primus was 'Primus'.
I'm glad you appreciate the weirdness of primus. Ive seen them live multiple times and they are incredible musicians. I seen them 3 times red rocks and a total of 5 times..
Tim Alexander has a drum kit in the museum of music history.
Always love to see someone hear this song for the first time. Such a banger. One of my favorite songs of all time.
live primus is an experience. from the sound to the crowd and the overall vibe is like no other show
Primus is the only band on Apple Music to have their own genre. Primus.
The one you NEED to do is 'Those Damned Blue-Collar Tweekers', that groove will break your neck!
Saw them live in Houston in ‘92. So good!
Les & Larry taking revving engines as inspiration for the heavy sections is sick
Did they say that ? It checks out when I listen to it for that. Been listening to this song for like two decades and I never caught that
My dad told me to come in to the living room that I was going to like this and it was this video and he was right I basically only listened to Primus relentlessly for 2 years.
Different and dope describes Primus perfectly
I’ve heard this song many times before, but it’s been a while, and I just realized that the heavy part sounds a whole lot like a car engine revving up 🤯🤯🤯
21 times. I have witnessed him in person 21 times lol my record for any band.
Haha u had genuine bassface 🥰
Gotta let sink in that Les is killin it on the bass while singing like his hands work completely apart from the rest of his body.
Looks so easy
Bro your taste is immaculate yesssss
Saw these guys open for Rush once! Geddy played with them on one song! Can’t remember which one!
Ok here we go!!!
First time I heard this song was live at Rothbury music festival. So fuckin wild!
Such a fun live show
For further Primus listening, I highly suggest Poetry and Prose (a song written for the cartoon series Beavis and Butthead), or the live "Suck on This" performances of Harold the Rock, or if you want to see their drummer go off, Jellikit.
Tool and primus in the same day? A good day for the metal side of your audience. Oh and rammstein
Saw Primus twice. Once in Pensacola and once in Minneapolis. The Mpls show was at 1st Avenue (the club from the movie Purple Rain) and just across the road is the Target Center, which hosts arena concerts and is where the MN Twins play. Just so happens Rush is playing at the Target Center that same night, so when Primus hits the stage, Les scolded all of us for not being across the street to see Primus' favorite band.
Actually, the Timberwolves play at Target Center, not the Twins. :)
@@landminespring28 Yes indeed. Thank you!
Best live show I have ever seen 3 times
Stank Face!! Polo - Love your reaction!!
Official video for their song Shake Hands With Beef should be up next.
3:36 the song had to be about racecars with that heavy as Hell "vroom vroom" engine firing sound they somehow create.
I saw them live towards the end of Slayer s final tour in 2019... only thing better was hearing "Rein in Blood" preformed live. Ministry was good as well...
The live version of it Woodstock 94 is epic too Bruh...
The same show where they did Tweekers
I saw them in Houston around '96 when they were touring for the Brown Album.
Primus. Shake hands with beef. It has a wicked funky bass line
“On all cylinders”. Nice pun! 🤩
"john the fisherman" is definitely a vibe. also the cover of stanley clarkes, "silly putty" from primus is just a beautiful funky instrumental. The song "Bobs party time lounge" has a live version on youtube thats funky as all hell too. Don't need to react to them. Just want to write out a couple dope funky ones that are slept on.
Les Claypool was born in Parkersburg WV, and so was I 😁
Who else has the confidence to play in their long johns? lol, Love their originality. We need a new genre called PRIMUS...
Love it, man! A couple that weren't really mainstream but are fun musically is Camelback Cinema or Southbound Pachyderm. I'm also going to keep offering John The Fisherman and Mr. Krinkle.
I second these suggestions.
@POLO REACTS when you said that Primus has their own sound, you might like to know that in a lot of music ID3 genre-tagging software, where you see Funk or Metal or Ambient, you'll also find "Primus", the only such category I found that is an actual name of a singular band.
