There is a theory that Marika figured out the Greater Will's idea to dominate the Lands Between. So she cast away Godfrey and the Tarnished to survive in the harsh lands without gods and become strong. Tasked the Black Knifes to help Ranni. Broke the Elden Ring. And entrusted Melina to burn the Erdtree, then the Tarnished eventually return to try and fix the Elden Ring and enter a conflict with the Greater Will. Most of this is sourced by speaking to Melina at different Churches. It is also a completely dumb idea, as Ranni is the character that conjures the big plan to remake the world order. Having another character with the same plan, but even more overkill is stupid. Also sacrificing Godwyn, her firstborn, so Ranni's can kill herself and do her Age of Stars plan? There is a level of foresight Marika can have, before the story falls into complete idiocy. It makes way more sense for Marika to be a benevolent ruler, that removed the Rune of Death, so none of her subjects would die (opposed to doing it only to benifit the gods). And when a mysterious subject kills her firstborn son, shatter the Elden Ring in rage/grief to punish her subjects, who seem to reject her benevolent rule. This fits with Roderika's final words, and the truth that Gideon saw. It also makes the Greater Will a better villain, since he can outmanuever Marika's rage, by having Radagon constantly repair the Elden Ring. And gives a reasonable explanation to why he would fuse them together at start. Essentually rulling the Lands Between via the constant stalemate, instead of Marika's original perfect world (very much similar to the different versions of the Matrix). While in the 2000 iq Marika theory, Greater Will is just an arrogant mong who stands there and waits for her plan to succeed, which it does. This is probably left intentionally for personal interpretation, but until we learn all there is to know about Melina/Gloom-Eye Queen, we can't say for sure what is the true scenario. The war with the Gloom-Eyed Queen will reveal what was Marika's real opinion on death and why Melina is tasked with burning the Erdtree... ... Not like if Marika wants to break the Ring to fuck over the world, she wouldn't send her daughter to kill the parasite tree.
I think Marika wanted to defy the greater will, and when that happens the greater will makes their shadow go beserk and kill them (the same reason Iji sealed Blaidd away)
marika shattered the ring in defiance from the greater will. Though she was sad as fuck that godwyn died. And yeah it was ranni and her motley anime protaganist crew that killed godwyn. Guts, a random titan and everyones waifu in witch cosplay killed some golden boy.
I'm convinced Marika set him up...she knew when she planned to step out of line against the greater will, it would beckon maliketh as her shadow to put her down and he would've done it effortlessly as the "demi god slayer" or whatever. I'm not opposed to the theory she guilted him into engraving the rune of death into himself. As the vessel of the elden ring, she knew that would cripple him into his need for death root. But meh, speculation
Actually, that's not how she betrayed him. Maliketh is not bound by the Greater Will. That's a common misconception. He's not like Baleful Shadows. He likely inspired them. He himself precedes the Golden Order. He wasn't made by the Greater Will. How do we know that? His spell descriptions mention that the first ever use of incantations were the use of rocks, something he's the origin of as he has the only rock based spells. So he's not bound to Marika by anything other than willing oath, and he's not bound to the Greater Will. Marika betrayed the Greater Will, yet Maliketh did not go mad and put her down. So it's actually more tragic than you thought. Marika did betray him, but she betrayed him by abusing his undying loyalty. She had him guard the Rune of Death, and he swore he would. Then she turned on the Greater Will, and she knew Maliketh would not harm her because of his oath and because she's his half sister She basically betrayed everything he stood for and relied on him being too pure to retaliate over it directly, which he was.
@@TheStraightestWhitest well the rememberance of the black blade states that he was a shadow bound beast given to Marika as she was an empyrean. Idk who else would give a beast like that, and the use of the term shadowbound sounds s lot like the same type of relationship Blaidd has with Ranni. You're right about stones being the weapons of beasts who had gained intelligence as the description of the bestial sling clearly states so, so Maliketh does possibly predate the erdtree, and the bestial constitution states how beasts must have felt their wildness slip away as civilization took hold. So this all probably means that Maliketh is OLD and I mean REALLY FUCKING OLD to predate the erdtree and probably be among the first beasts to gain intelligence, so unless maliketh just uses ancient incantations of beasts, you're probably right actually. He probably entered the greater wills service by the time he was fully grown and was then gifted to Marika
So i guess lorewise, Maliketh is the strongest being in the game. He could kill literally anybody, including the Elden Beast if he wanted. Only reason why he doesn't is because he's a good boy to Marika.
This man's voice is by far the most chilling and intimidating voice I've heard in any FromSoft game. Fuck he's scary, I don't say that about many bosses.
Godrick- the weakest dogs bark the loudest. Ranni- you don’t have to continue the toxic cycle. Break the chain, and forge your own path. Rennala- sadness is remembering the strength you once had, and how those you love the most have taken it away. Morgott- your value does not decrease, because those around you can’t see your worth. Mohg- to catch a predator. Starscourge Radahn- that which doesn’t kill us, makes us stronger. Malenia- fight for the one who matters most. Miquella- Be the change you wish to see in the world. Malekith- failure shouldn’t define you, but it can shape you. Rykard: TOGETHAAAA Godfrey- A crown is warranted with strength. Radagon: Me, Myself, and I against the world.
Malekith was such a bad ass. Love Malekith's Black Blade! Used it in my 2nd Journey for stabbing shenanigans. Also nice Ronin set. I'm rocking it with the Okina mask.
I think the black knife assassins were numens who were jealous of marika and when ranni gave them the means to hurt her they took it. considering ranni pretty much tells you her side of the story she never mentions godwyn so I'm unconvinced she had a hand in his death other than giving the means to the black knifes.
Ah finaly a plausible argument. I always disliked Ranni despite all the enthousiasm around her character because i thought she decided to kill Godwyn but you've helped me make out the rest of the story. I know the black knife assassins had a falling out with Ranni so maybe that was it
@@Morbak546 the ringleader of the black knives is imprisoned in a evergoal that is located in the area that is accessible at the end of her questline. I say her area because adula the dragon that she befriended guards the area. Why would she imprison her if she was involved with her?

Before playing any major bosses in this game, just hearing the name "Maliketh" uttered by an NPC, the F'ing name itself commands respect. His name says "Go F#ck yourself" without actually saying GFY.
It's sad that we have to kill all these lords who are just following orders or being loyal to the cause they believe in. I gave him all the death root so I didn't know he had other words if you didn't complete his questline. He was a epic fight and visually awesome
The coolest boss and perhaps the most challenging. I think he's definitely the boss that you have to have the most talent on the sticks in order to beat. He's ferocious, attacks constantly, and his move sets are insane.
If you look at the rune that was stollen, youll see it came out of a body. He lost a piece by defeating the gloem eyed queen, and whats left of her has been following you around the whole game. Miquilla and melanias sister, melina
I think the splitting of the five fingers into two and three might’ve been representative or consequence of removing the rune of death from the elden ring
See now this is one of the many reasons why maliketh is my favorite boss, (its also a pretty big reason) he’s soooooooooo damn powerful, imagine how ridiculously, insanely strong a character in elden ring would have to be in order to defeat an entire race of beings who hunt gods, then beat their queen who was strong enough to create the godskins, and do it all before you get your best weapon aka the death blade (and yk he’s built different because the effects he makes when he dies are different from any other creature in the lands between) what a badass character Edit: also side note, *every demigod feared him*
A sad bit to this is that if it's true that Marika shattered the Elden Ring herself and had all of this done to rebel against the golden order, she either had no actual control over Maliketh or just left him out of the loop for no reason :(
@Thunder Life Studios So she left her most loyal, stalwart companion in utter dark to the point he literally infuses death itself into his body to make up for a failure she planned, because she didn't want to live with the guilt of having killed someone loyal to her? What kind of 4-d chess fuckery is that?
@Thunder Life Studios Nope. Maliketh wasn't made by the Greater Will, his spells make it very clear that he precedes its influence on the Lands Between. It has no control over him. He serves willingly, hence why he did not turn on Marika when she shattered the Elden Ring.
Maliketh is my favorite boss in the game to fight. He is incredibly strong but when the dopamine hit from overcoming him is such a rush. He has a great story and if you choose to aid Ranni you really feel as though you are taking over for him as a protector of a goddess albeit as consort and protector of Ranni rather than Marika. If you side with Fia he becomes an obstacle that you must overcome to usher in the era of the Duskborn.
I don’t think it’s so much that Marika betrayed The Greater Will knowingly, or at least only did so in desperation… I feel like everything lends credence to Marika removing destined death in an attempt to stop Ranni’s plan to bring forth a new age - Remember, Ranni didn’t steal the entire rune of death, only a piece.. after this happened Markika removed the rune completely, unknowingly breaking a cosmic cycle - all in an attempt to save her child. So, in doing this, she betrayed her God and at the same time failed in saving her son - Godywn still dies in soul and becomes the Prince of Death. Her story is one of tragedy.
Can you give him deathroot separately from gurranq? Are they the same? I was surprised walking into the boss room because I thought it was him but realized bosses name was not specific so it couldn't be gurranq right? I also beat him first try haha I didn't know he was super difficult till coming into the comments maybe they nerfed him for me
No one is talking about how Gurranq straight up attacks you if you kill Maliketh before feeding him all 9 deathroot This is the reason I'd say they aren't the same creature but were definitely working in tandem. I got the impression Beast Clergymen are a divine archetype of creature that was appointed to consume traces of death in the lands between and Maliketh would be the definitive guard of Destined Death itself. Another reason I'd say they're not the same creature is because it's implied that after the night of the Black Knives Maliketh hid the rune of death inside himself then isolated himself so it could never be stolen again. He's in farum azula until you find him
It's there a description of the golden order's idea of death that contrasts to destined death? Like 'pure death' or something in one of those golden incantations?
Destined Death only became known as that after Marika took it away from the Elden Ring, I think. Presumably because she wanted to be the one in charge of who death reaches. She wanted a monopoly on death, pretty much. Therefore, only she can deliver true Death in Elden Ring. I think when the Rune of Death (Destined death) was taken away, the concept of Death itself left the Lands Between. From that point on, all life and death was bound to the Erdtree. That's why when you kill bosses you get remembrances. It's almost as if they are not really dead, but their power and life force sealed away, or in other words, returned to the Erdtree.
@@FlowingEdge- well then it would become like our world, even though that is just my guess. Supposedly, the Lands Between existed for a long time before the Erdtree ever got there. If it would become like our normal world, then it would become a question of where do living being's souls go when we die and that my friend, is too complicated for me to give you a competent explanation
The main thing I have learned in reading through folks lore explaination is that no one has a solid grasp and most clearly did not pay attention during the parts of school concerning literature, narrative, & close reading. Le sigh, I'ma have to do this myself huh :(

On the final deathroot, he will be outside the sanctum on the left, staring up at farrum azula. Once you give him the deathroot he disappears on that spot.
Honestly he's quickly becoming my favourite designed character
Maliketh would eat Malenia and Radahn for breakfast.
He wins but I could see Radahn giving him a tough go. Malenia only becomes a problem is she uses the weird outer Rot god ability again.

Wasn’t it Rannie and Rykard that teamed up to kill Godwyn? I think Marika shattered the elden ring in anger/sadness.
That's what they want you to think
Ranni killed godwyn but she had blessed rykards sword so he could take care of shit if she failed, but she didn't. Rykard kinda did nothing tbh
Fr bro even after he fought hard to protect the rune of death for her she betrayed him
Marika seems to be a bitch in general as far as we can tell. She only serves herself
Then she turned on the Greater Will, and she knew Maliketh would not harm her because of his oath and because she's his half sister
She basically betrayed everything he stood for and relied on him being too pure to retaliate over it directly, which he was.
One part that interested me is if you kill the beastman clergyman as he dies he cries out to Merica asking why she shattered the ring.
And the more impressive thing is that isn't in any means modulated, the actor did that by himself.

@@Wolf-bz6kq where is it said that ranni befriended adula? Didn't read that yet.
Also i don't pay too much attention to evergaols in general like why is there an ancient hero of Zamor in the weeping peninsula?
At any rate, it's never stated anywhere that Ranni took revenge on the black knives, just that they had a falling out so I wouldn't know why she would imprison Alecto there, nor if it was even Ranni that actualy did it.

Before playing any major bosses in this game, just hearing the name "Maliketh" uttered by an NPC, the F'ing name itself commands respect. His name says "Go F#ck yourself" without actually saying GFY.
didn’t know Marika was thick like that
That guy in the church was malekith?? Yeah this is game of the year
It's sad that we have to kill all these lords who are just following orders or being loyal to the cause they believe in.

His armor looks more like the berserker armor than blaidds
In a way he is this world's Grim Reaper.
See now this is one of the many reasons why maliketh is my favorite boss, (its also a pretty big reason) he’s soooooooooo damn powerful, imagine how ridiculously, insanely strong a character in elden ring would have to be in order to defeat an entire race of beings who hunt gods, then beat their queen who was strong enough to create the godskins, and do it all before you get your best weapon aka the death blade (and yk he’s built different because the effects he makes when he dies are different from any other creature in the lands between)
what a badass character
Edit: also side note, *every demigod feared him*
I 💚 those videos, keep them coming man.👏👏👏
So far Malekith has been my favorite boss
Nice job Dan, I like how you are improving these videos 👍
The truly honourable warrior, huh.
Man I wish they added a galary or something for us to check all the cool weapons, armor, enemies and bosses in detail
A bestiary but they call it the beastiary and it’s in the sanctum? Would go hard
These are phenomenal, sir. Thank you!
Love your voice man. It’s perfect for this theme of storytelling.
He’s the most awesome looking boss in the game

Can you give him deathroot separately from gurranq? Are they the same? I was surprised walking into the boss room because I thought it was him but realized bosses name was not specific so it couldn't be gurranq right? I also beat him first try haha I didn't know he was super difficult till coming into the comments maybe they nerfed him for me
@@gallants4527 what did u use?
Me when I spread misinformation on the Internet 🤭
No one is talking about how Gurranq straight up attacks you if you kill Maliketh before feeding him all 9 deathroot
This is the reason I'd say they aren't the same creature but were definitely working in tandem.
He's in farum azula until you find him
But you can look into the gurranq character model and he is literally wearing malikeths amour.
Bruh malekith hid as a beast clergyman in caelid. He needed the deathroot to try get the power of the deathrune back
I so fascinated with the Lore of the Carácter and the game. This fight is so Epic , I enjoyed it.
It's there a description of the golden order's idea of death that contrasts to destined death? Like 'pure death' or something in one of those golden incantations?
Isn't
@@J.R.Swish1 but with the Erd Tree burning where do their souls go when they die?
@@FlowingEdge- well then it would become like our world, even though that is just my guess. Supposedly, the Lands Between existed for a long time before the Erdtree ever got there. If it would become like our normal world, then it would become a question of where do living being's souls go when we die and that my friend, is too complicated for me to give you a competent explanation
The main thing I have learned in reading through folks lore explaination is that no one has a solid grasp and most clearly did not pay attention during the parts of school concerning literature, narrative, & close reading. Le sigh, I'ma have to do this myself huh :(

Question 🙋🏾♂️. If the rune of death is not bond to the world. How do bosses die die when you kill them but random mobs don’t?
They don’t really die, bosses or demigods drop remembrance and return to the erdtree. they die when you become elden lord and restoring order.

So Ranni stole a piece of the rune of death? Because he still has it in his hand, is that just part of it?
Why was he at Farum though? What reason did he have to be up there?
The time is weird at farum azula and probably deformed
We basically can fight the dragon King by sleep in a rock thing on the floor of a special place
But we are sure that gurranq are maliketh bcs of the dialogue change, it is not say in the video but I see by myself that gurranq has the rune of death "jewelry" on his hand at farum in caelid
Farum appears to be where the beast dudes reside? I think he gets a spot in the golden order as a political alliance between the beastmen and the golden order, I don't think he's the shadow because he and Mariketh are bffs.
@@SixBeark wtf ?
