- It has been a long time comin! We set out on Phase II of our Great Loop. We are departing Orange Beach AL after 101 days on the hard. It feels good to be moving again. It is an exciting morning with an unexpected twist!

I'm a lost Michigander (Munising) and a retired Merchant Marine Captain who lives in Pensacola, I am enjoying your trip immensely. I thought you might be stuck on the hard in Orange Beach forever. Shipyards are vexing. Enjoy the rest of your journey and keep the videos coming. It is a vicarious adventure that many of us are enjoying. Bob, that’s a damn risky move trying to transit in those conditions. Don’t break your boat again. Always, always, always play it safe, nothing is worth taking kinds of risks. I hope you finish your loop ! All the best
Thank you! We turned around....sometimes you just have to dip your toe in the water to test it...hahaha! Reminds me of salmon fishing on Lake Michigan and some of the stupid conditions we used to go out in just to catch fish....I am older and wiser now..so I quickly turned around. I’m an Air Force pilot retired living in South Mississippi. Spend a lot of time in Fairhope. I have friends there and we visit often. Your journey is amazing and we will continue to follow you. Hey guys !!! Our family loves your videos. The bridge in Perdido Key that Kathy doesnt like and you went under is actually called the Theo Baars Bridge. We own a AirBnb just at the bottom of the bridge on the right side. If you are ever back in the area and need a place to stay let us know !!! You can dock at the Oyster Bar and Marina and walk to the house !!

Happy Mother's Day! I understand that fear on a bridge. A few years ago, we were heading to Niagara Falls from below Buffalo. Buffalo has an 2 lane one way raised ramp above the city. Very windy, pulling our 42 foot Fifth Wheel Trailer with my Dually. White knuckles! It was along way down to the city streets. Fair Winds and Following Seas! God Bless a Mother's Hand Print! Even when it's on a child's backside. Spare the Rod! Spoil the Child! In His words, He tells fathers not to provoke your children to Rath. This Speaks to the heart and compassion of a Mother.
I can't even fathom crossing that bridge with a trailer! I am glad I am not alone in that fear lol. Thank you for the sweet Mother's Day Blessing! We appreciate your support Gary! :)

Haha! Great question! We plan to address this in upcoming episodes...yeah, we will be going faster than most, making up for lost time and we have a rough deadline to get back home, the repairs didn't help that. GPH...ugh, we don't discuss that....yuk! hahaha! :)

You know as you Orange Beach, where we have been many times, I remember that the day we would leave to go home was a sad day. Everyone on the trip home just sat and looked sad. We always loved to get there but hated to leave. It is a beautiful area. Good luck guys I'll be a watchin.

So good to see you guy got out of Orange Beach finally and made it to my old sailing grounds of PC in one jump! Us sail boaters could only dream of making that leg in 8 hours. You guys hit the inlet at PC just right, it can be a bear at times, especially for us sailing vessels. CA and its crew deserve some fair winds and calm seas from here on!

Panama City to Destin and return are easy trips. We do it regularly on our 33’ Sea Ray. We’ve done the ICW and the Gulf and for us it’s about the same timeframe depending on where you stay in Destin. We usually make around 20KTS either way. We only seldom run into barge traffic on that leg. Safe travels

Well…… I learned something new today. I also have a Sea Ray with Raymarine Quantum radar and there was one time and heavy fog between Marina del Rey and Catalina Island that I could not get my radar to connect. Very close to coming in contact with an oil tanker on a perpendicular course. I eventually got it to reconnect by powering down the boat, powering down the battery solenoids and it finally was able to reconnect at that point. I never knew about the external power switch!

Have to tell you that as you were leaving I was looking at the drone footage I thought crap, they're going to loose that drone and in the same moment I thought "Guys, get her back to the marina!". The next second in the video you were explaining why you went back. I just smiled and said to myself "Thata Boy! Good Job!"
Speaking of drone footage, as you were leaving the harbor it totally reminded me of the start of this adventure when you left home to begin Great Loop 1.0. What a freaking ride it has been so far. Can't wait for you next episode. Until then Fair Winds and Following Seas.

Question: We have a very similar boat to yours and are considering some percentage of the loop. As the captain and the guy that manages (but does not make) the family money, what happened to you is my biggest fear. What was your total out-of-pocket cost for fixing the boat? Maybe with and without room and board since that will vary based on where you have to camp while the boat is being fixed. What did insurance cover and what did it not? Thanks

Hello Scott! It was a struggle, but in the end they paid all but the deductible. But we had to work for it :)
One of you can't drive accross a bridge and the other departs in dense fog.

a few things . . you seem real concerned with boating rules. You might want to check out the rules for legally flying drones for a youtube channel. First it requires a part 107 certificate (just verified you do NOT have one), secondly you MUST have a minimum of 3 miles visibility which early in this video when you almost lost the drone and had to wait out the visibility you were again operating illegally. Hey don't listen to me, check out the rules on the internet . . . all it will take is for one FAA Inspector to check out your page and the multiple times you used the drone illegally to absolutely ruin your day. I guarantee the fines will be much more then your youtube paychecks . . . probably more like much more then your yearly gas bill. #DroneResponsibly
