Was actually going to search for Max Payne after watching your Mirrors Edge and Half-Life reviews. This did not dissapoint! Well done sir.
I remember playing this game when I was about 7. That dream sequence freaked me out so much that I couldn't sleep for days. Nice review BTW.

I agree with everything you've said. Except for maybe the part about the nightmare sequences. They are some of my favorite parts of the game.

just beat this game in the last 2 days for the first time. i havent played it since i was 11-12 yrs old. i never got further than the first few chapters when i was younger and i just found out why... this is one of the HARDEST games ive ever played. im not a noob to playing games. ive been playing them since the atari 2600. this is in the top 5 hardest ive ever played next to halo 2 on legendary solo

one i think i agree is the game being a quicksave every 5 steps. However it is actually meant to be like that, it's trial stuff. At the highest difficulties you got a limited time to complete the level and 6 quicksaves in total. You gotta do this right. Indeed, this game is mostly about headshotting and tumbling all the way
@Korean81880 Yeah I love that mod. For anyone who finishes the game they should definitely install it and replay the game that way.
And that was by killing all the enemies and spending time on the bossess and not exploiting parts of the level design to my advantage..... that's exactly how much time do you actually spend playing the game. And I think that MP3 will be much shorter since it has much more cutscenes than the other 2( it's basically a movie by this point ).
Another HUGE problem with Max Payne 1 is it's compatability. It cant run on windows 7 in 64 bit and on Vista it doesn't have sound :(
Zonestalker Ozren Runs on Windows 7 64bit for me. I had to patch the sound though.
I still enjoy the first Max Payne the most out of the entire series, not only it was longer but it didn't fell into MGS syndrome like the 2nd and 3rd game did. I mean c'mon devs the games are already short and you fill the rest of the game with cutscenes every 3 to 4 couple of minutes WTF ? The 2nd one took me about 8 to 9 hours to finish it 1st play without rushing it, the 2nd time I made a speedrun and skipped all the cutscenes and managed to finish the game in 2 and a half hours ~_____~
Great review and I agree with you. The nightmare/overdose sequence is annoying as hell in this game. I can't tell you how many times I slipped off the plain because of terrible camera control or wonky mechanics. I had this game back in the day and sold it, but I had to purchase another one off of eBay to complete my Max Payne collection again.
why didnt you review this game first and then Max Payne 2?

The gameplay doesn't look a thing different in the 3rd game.
Play Max Payne 3 and you'll take that back really quick.
Thats not a HUGE problem if you know how google works..

@jonnymagal I had a few problems with recording but I found a sound mod to fix it. And I seriously hope it doesn't turn into DNF. Still I'm not sure anything can be worse than the film.

Why is it a CON that the game is hard? Games nowadays are piss easy.. I completed BF3 campaign on hard in about 3 hours... wtf dude...
