- Tritium search and rescue 40mm or 41mm depends on where you measure. In my opinion this would be a great one to buy if you are use to Seiko size divers. ETA f06 high torque quartz movement.

It's definitely a heck of a watch. Once you get it on that MN strap, it just disappears, which is saying something since it's chunky. The info on the back for anyone curious is:
1. The official military watch designation
2. The Nato Stock Number (like the military version of a UPC)
3. The amount of radiation present in the watch.
4. The product code for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission database.
5. The contract number the watch was purchased with (for those curious, it was a 2.6 million dollar contract from 06-11, provided to the US Army)
6. The CAGE Number, which is how the US military tracks products (vs NATO with the NSN)
It’s also ISO rated which is a huge plus
Dumb question: what is an MN strap? With a 7" wrist I'm debating this being absolutely perfect, or too thick and way too heavy. Trying to make the decision lol
@@musclebill9051 that's the strap you see in the video... it's basically an elastic loop.
I bought one through Marathon and got a great deal. I work for the government and a healthcare worker and after supplying my I.D. got a discount. Cant wait to get it.
Expensive these days, especially for the most basic ETA 2824 movement in it (I've seen one with its caseback opened). The deep bezel and massive bezel teeth do grow on you though; a unique watch.
Just bought this piece from Long Island Watch and it should be here tomorrow. Very excited for its arrival. I ordered a black/gray version of the MN strap from Amazon as well. Gonna save up for a Marathon steel bracelet too
Donovan D I might have a very slightly used metal bracelet for sale if you are still interested.
@@wogalley do you still have the bracelet
@@lukebizurk7601 I think I do. I will have to check when I get home.
@@lukebizurk7601 Yes. I do still have the Marathon bracelet. Let me know if you are interested.
I got this watch a few days ago to take to basic training. Mostly because of the tritium and toughness. It's definitely heavy and thick, but the width and lug to lug make it feel a lot smaller than you'd think. I have a 6.5ish inch wrist, and it's almost too small, (to me at least). I had to check all the numbers on the back and look at my order to make sure I didn't accidentally order the medium TSAR. If you have a 6-7 inch wrist, this watch will fit just fine.
To get technical, The watch has held time just fine, which was to be expected. The second hand has also hit every mark on my watch. The tritium is really bright, and can almost be used as a small flashlight if you hold it really close to something, and the bezel has no slack or movement in it at all. So far, it has been everything I wanted it to be, but only time will tell if it can deal with continuous rough usage.
I assume you've come back from BCT, i'm going in a month, did it end up being too nice of a watch to take with you? I am interested in getting one as well.
@@your_favorite_commissar2008 Knowing exactly what BCT and OSUT is now I would say get the TSAR if you like it, but I wouldn't take it into BCT. In basic you really need a watch with a timer and alarm function. You'll get different first call times, fireguard times, and times to sit at battalion HQ for hours. Your body will never be able to adjust and wake itself up beforehand, and you'll inevitably lose track of time and miss replacing someone at battalion. That being said, you can't bring in a smart watch of any kind, they don't want you making any calls, using a calculator, texting, or breaking something extremely expensive. I would get a good gshock of some kind, or wait until you get the chance to go to the PX at reception. They'll give you the chance to buy some dirt cheap gshock knockoffs that are probably more durable and accurate, and all have alarms.
The Erika's Originals straps are great. Other than the buckle being a little tricky to hook as you said, they are super comfortable and work very well.
I’ve been watching these watches for a couple years could’ve gotten one for about $450 and now you’re lucky to get one for $500 , I still want one and it will happen eventually 😎.
Update 6/23 just got one on rubber strap for $850 and that’s $400 under retail.
I put mine on a straight end link strapcode
Wow nice watch.
Just got a gsar this videos size comparison to the seiko is spot on I thought it would be a tad bigger on the wrist for some reason. I would say strap width is at a cheesy 20mm seems like a width the would be better suited for the 36mm. I would have preferred a 22mm strap width but overall really nice watch
Can I ask what is your wrist size? I have a 6.5 inch wrist and I'm hesitating between the gsar and the msar at 36mm. I wear a few Seiko divers, one that is 42.5mm and it fits my wrist well. I even wear an Arnie which is not the smallest. But the gsar looks so thick and square I'm worried it will look too massive for my wrist. And worried the msar would look dinky...
@thebestoffools same dilemma here I have 7 inch wrist wanna know which one wil fit perfectly 🤔
Another great vid. You're the best watch channel on the web, by far. Great stuff. Keep it up!
Wow, thanks much. I will be posting vid each day for few more days.
Deep Deep Dish! Love it
If Marathon could somehow come up with a thinner watch, that would be a winner
Jay Velasquez it then, defeat the purpose.
Our Military is a bold sight to remember, that being said, all that we're issued will reflect the same.
I got one of these. I wanted it based on reviews and pictures, but in real life it is *small*.
This size would be just right for a dress watch. For a diver, however.. if you like a Casio G-shock (the plastic digital one) or, say, Seiko Divers, you'll be disappointed with TSAR.
Marathon themselves, on the site, say that it's perfect size for women or smaller wrists, and I agree.
It's a pity they don't make anything between TSAR and Jumbo.
For the cost, it should hit the seconds markers practically every time
LOL your dreaming No watch does that LOL
@@Mark-sd7fc Except every Grand Seiko
@@nbrikha yes a sweep second hand hits all the markers 🙄
@@nbrikha if it’s quartz it absolutely does NOT hit All The markers, at best it hits the 5 minute markers
@@Mark-sd7fc lol, grand seiko quartz watches hit every second index. Sinn quartz watches do as well.
I saw numerous videos on the marathon and wanted to pull the trigger and get one but did not want to spend $700 plus on a quartz so I got the “medium” which is advertised as 39mil, I have just under a 7inch wrist... the medium is so ridiculously tiny I returned it immediately to Island watch . Your right Mark from Island watch is a good dealer he refunded my purchase immediately . Word of advice if your going to buy this watch DO NOT BUY THE MEDIUM Version.
Good info. So 6.5 and under I am guessing would be fine?
Isn't the medium more like a 36mm?
Yes it is 36mm
Random Rob Rob to be honest the “medium “ is a women’s watch size . I literally open the box laughed and sent it back. The thing is , on videos it looks doable as far as decent size fit you can’t really tell on a video that it’s soo tiny. The reviews were mix as far as size so I took a chance since it was only like $450 and I like the history of the watch.
I love the 36mm medium size of this watch. It fits my 6.25 inch wrists which can fit any watches up to 45mm. It certainly wears large for a 36mm. It seems small at first. It grew in size the more I got used to it. Every single one of these Marathon divers wear large.
Thanks for the review of the Marathon! I have to say I like that skx009 better that was also in the video!
Bold watch with not-so-bold micro - mini numerals.
For the price of those they should be hitting EVERY SINGLE SECONDS MARK that’s a bit ridiculous I was really about to pull the trigger on the Jsar the 46mm but after seeing this I’ll probably head towards the mtm silencer
They do hit the markers, it's just parallax. I have 2 of them and they all hit the markers, the angle the watch is viewed at affects it because of how deep the dial is in the watch for the tubes clearance.
Same thing with the bezel alignment on these.
Hi bro do you still have your watch ? if it's a possitive aswer, do you sell it ? Thanks
Great watch, not sure why anyone would possibly want an extremely corrupt government emblazoned on their watch dial though, I’d never want the British government on my watch, ours is just as deeply corrupt as yours!!
At least have the military.
Fantastic watch though and brilliant review, cheers. 👍🏻
Most quartz movements won't always hit the markers. It's just the nature of quartz. Some of mine hit all the markers one hour and are off the next
No it's not the nature of quartz, ALL my quartz watches hits the markers perfectly because I specifically tell the sellers not to send me a watch unless it does that and if they send me a misaligned one anyway I return it for a refund. I returned a JSAR that hit the markers at 40-50 seconds, but missed the markers at 10-20 seconds and were slightly off from 20-40 and 50-10 - a sign that the movement or dial aren't properly centered. I don't accept a watch with shoddy build quality and I wish the rest of you didn't either - the sooner people start rejecting misaligned watches, the sooner the watchmakers up their game and QC properly.
For higher end movements, this should not be the case. It's complacency from the manufacturers.
Quartz is not perfectly accurate, as it has a deviation of ±20 seconds/month. The alignment and unalignment to markers is likely from the standard deviation from standard accuracy.
Does the second hand constantly hit the markers?
Who makes the elastic strap ? I couldn’t make out the manufacture...👍🏻
What was the name of that green NATO band?
It's a marine nationale strap, not sure which brand though. Probably ndc or erikas originals
How can it be that expensive with a quartz movement?
ETA high torque Swiss movement (+/-1 second a month), great construction and materials, tritium, army contractors.
what is the make of the OD green strap?
Erica’s originals. I think.
Advise me automatic or quarz ?
Automatics are mechanically powered, need servicing every few years or so, and are generally (dependent upon craftsmanship) less accurate and have hundreds of tiny pieces, hence the larger price tag. The allure is the equivalent of having a classic “man & machine” car with no power assists and manual trans.
Quartz is the cheapest, usually most accurate and is battery powered. It does not require much maintenance. For enthusiast purposes, go with auto. For general, practical, and functional every day purposes, go with quartz. You’ll find that the military guys wearing these go with quartz for those reasons.
Hi should all marathon watches have a date on the bottom?
No need for a spring bar tool. It has lug holes.
When pushing it back in it's very hard to get the OEM springbars in without a toothpick/tool because they come very tight on that rubber strap.
