    Here is a look at the Marathon Jsar, and Iconic Dive Watch that still lives up to the hype, even today. Yes, there are a lot of options out there, more so every day, but the Jsar is still around mostly unchanged for a reason.

    I used mine in Afghanistan 09-10, and it went through hell. I absolutely love the watch, 2 year's ago, I was having some issues, dirty and wasn't working right. Sent it back to the factory, cost me about $400 cdn. Replaced the scratched to hell crystal, the bezel was all beat up, replaced that, and some internals, which, changed the battery... all on all, awsome watch, great service....

    Received my new JSAR yesterday which I purchased from Marathon. Just wanted to add a comment about the Lume. Traditionally I'm a big tritium guy but have also had a lot of high end pieces that are famed for their lume. The JSAR is in my opinion far more superior to any other watch that I've owned (including Omega, Panerai, and Breitling) as far as all night readability. I could honestly read it without any difficulty even after 9 hours in the dark. A plus was that Marathon also included a bunch of extras. Was received with a hat, two carry bags, Marathon velcro patch, and a high quality watch tool. A+ to the Marathon team. Also, if you register your watch they will add an additional year of warranty with it.

    I own one. It’s huge, tall, and heavy. Very well made and highly accurate. I wear a Navigator more but love both.

    I bought one in 2010 and keeping it to this day, battery life is +/- 2 years

    Great review, i own the jsar with the red maple leaf. I have got several 'big' divers. With this one it's not just the diameter that makes it chunky, but that dial, that dial wich you can just dive in to (the depth) makes it look massive😁

    My J-SAR is dated 2008. I've had it since 2011, and loved it to bits. Four years for a battery, seconds a month accuracy and build like a Challenger tank. What's not to like? The recent price hike, is what. When I bought mine it was just over $500, and now? $1400+. What's the reason for that ludicrous price rise?

    • @watchreport
      @watchreport  Рік тому +1

      Production costs, employee costs, inflation (2011 is over a decade ago) etc. Now I do think the price is high, won’t disagree. It’s more than doubled. I remember when it was like $750 myself. Maybe they sell less and that’s why they charge so much as well. The watch is cool no doubt but it’s a hefty price tag for a large quartz watch.

    I just got the GSAR, I’m really happy with this watch, my only complaint would be that the bracelet is expensive and it’s just an ok bracelet, so I purchased a strapcode miltat with straight end links for about $110 and it’s a much better bracelet for about half the price

    I love those big paddle hands and matching hour markers with text. Like a perfect mashup of a diver and field watch.

    I love my JSAR ! Its such a beast. IMO though i would upgrade the movement to compete with a seiko’s 7c46 movement.

    Hi,
    Great review thank you. I see you have reviewed the Marc and Sons 1000m dive watch too. You mention in that review that the Marc and Sons was too big, you didn't on this review.Would you say that the JSAR wore smaller or better on your wrist? I am considering one of the two for myself.
    Thank you in advance

    • @watchreport
      @watchreport  3 роки тому +2

      Hello Steve. Yes, both are larger watches, and while on paper they seem similar, the JSAR is more balanced on the wrist, doesn’t have the massive crown guards and overall is just a more comfortable watch on the wrist (for me).

    I actually have a few Marathons. I have both the smaller CSAR and GSAR. I got them in 2017, they were not as expensive as they are now. The GSAR is one of my favorites. The CSAR, which is the 41mm Quartz, has the same movement as this. I had it for almost 3 years, still on the original battery. It’s possible with the JSAR’s longer hands battery life will be shorter.
    I agree about the clasp, its along the lines of what Seiko uses.

    I want it with tritium and no day/date. Otherwise I would have purchased already.

    It’s about a year on battery life. Because the Diles that are use for the hands are made more for clocks then watches so they’re heavier and use of the power quicker. So you change out the batterie each year on your birthday

    I don’t mind the aluminum bezel on Marathons because aluminum also doesn’t shatter. For a true field watch, it makes sense.

    The dial is "deep dish" to accommodate the tritium tubes... which are absent in this model, but they were too lazy to redesign the case.

    Well as of November 2024, they sell for $1600 now. But first time bars get 10% off and of course it comes with a special tool for the bracelet and a beanie cap. Now that I had it and shipped it, I must say the truth that bracelet feels cheap as hell and coming dead, I guess the battery was dead. It was not a very impressive purchase experience for me, so yeah, I’m not gonna look any further to him considering all the monies for that casing in the watch movements only 30 bucks. Anyway, I tried.

    This is what I think of when I hear macho watches, I wish after market bezel makers made some like these. Ceramic is too reflective for tactical use, this is issued to armed forces and must meet requirements. Their chronographs are appealing too and at $1400 not unreasonable.
