Finally...a review of the 36mm quartz version ! Thank you very much for the review. I’m going to be ordering one in the coming days from your site. Love your reviews.
Nice review, especially the example of the white fox running around, lmao. This is going to be my next Marathon, love my GSAR.White dial makes it look expensive and dressy.Red second hand is the perfect touch. All the best.
I have this watch and It made me realise I've been wearing big watches that are uncomfortable for too many years, it's perfect (I've owned the CSAR, GSAR and JDD before now) Also, i think It looks amazing on your wrist, better than It does on my own even and we the same size. Did not like It at first but make yourself wear It for three+ days and I started to feel a bit silly for wearing the monster size watches I have all these years, literally sold my Gen1 Oranage monster when this came.
I've got a 7 inch wrist but went for this 36mm. Looks awesome, especially in white. Personally prefer the look of a lug to lug around 45mm even though I know my wrist can get away with much bigger.
Arctic is likely not only because of the white of snow, but also because white is the most legible face to read in an area with heavy snow (Arctic, Antartica, etc). Stunning piece at a reasonable price.
Dag Sabot If things go bad, the opposition force will be taking everything their prisoner or the KIA has, whether it is a $10 Casio or a Rolex that we all used to wear.
Hey Marc I love your videos, just got onto watches. Bought a skx013. I’m going to buy my next watch from you cause I like your videos. This or mini turtle for my next watch. Please advise.
Do you think they will ever get a black metal bracelet for the anthracite one? If I bought the black one is there a decent alternative to to buy a black metal bracelet?
Torque yes please. I read that the GS 9 f quartz movement has so much of that torque the seconds hands are pretty dense to soak it up! That's one mother of a stepper motor? That watch is pretty cool also.Cheers.GG
@@edcfyau Yes.The seconds hand on the 9f is very " heavy" to stop it shuddering when it ticks. The motor delivers a lot of torque compared to a standard movement. As you can guess I am a fan of good quartz,s Cheers.
800-900 for Quartz? I don't see it, sorry. I would rather have the automatic which I think is not much more. I do like the size and the colors they chose. Do you know if they even make this model in an automatic? This is one of those watch brands I have heard of but very little knowledge. I do appreciate you taking the time to make the video. I see a far better value in the watches you designed that take Seiko SKX parts. I would probably get one if you ever get them a little smaller. I think you said you had plans for those as well. Take care for now.
I'm sure it's all subjective, but I just returned the automatic. I got the quartz one for comparison - the automatic is about 1.5 ~ 2mm thicker. And for a case size of 36mm that is actually pretty big.
It's fine, trust me. But if you want really bright lume then it will certainly disappoint. Ball watches or Luminox are probably for you, if you like to read your newspaper using only the light from your watch
The tritium on these watches is Amazing, and is just one more reason Marathon divers are THE most practical watches made. The lume literally appears like a night light on my bead stand, and reading the time at night is just as easy as in full daylight. No kidding.
OK, let's talk a bit about "military issue". First off, if you're one of those combat arms soldiers, sailors, or Marines that really, really has a need for one you're never going to be issued one. Why? Simple. It's not in the TOE or the "Table of Organization and Equipment", not even in modified form aka "MTOE" when getting ready to deploy. Why not? Again, simple. Budget. Money. Funding. Why spend money on watches when that money can be spent on FUEL or FOOD for your soldiers? Not to mention that shiny watches with white faces are not going to work well when you're out on a movement-to-contact trying to find the enemy before he finds you. Why, if the SGM or 1SG finds you running around with that shiny watch on your wrist he's going to put boot to ass and make you put it in your pocket or leave it at home. You see someone wearing a watch like this in uniform, you know they're probably not combat arms and do a lot of "desk diving". There's a reason why U.S. military PX/BXs across the planet stock a lot of black G-Shocks and sell them *all* right before a deployment or field exercise. Next, let's talk about "meeting military specifications". Did you know that as long as you can prove to the U.S. government that a watch you make and sell meets the current military specs for a watch that you can request it be listed in the GSA catalog and be issued a GSN (Government Stock Number) for it even if not one single watch is ever purchased for the government? The U.K. does this a lot whereas Uncle Sam tends to be a little more traditional which is why very, very few watchmakers have a U.S. GSA stock number. Marathon's been doing this for decades though, which is why they continue to mark their watches with it and during Desert Storm they did sell a lot of watches to the DoD and some of them even got issued to units on the front lines. Sorry, Marathon, but an M1-Series tank will absolutely *destroy* every watch model in your entire catalog within a year on deployment whereas it will just scratch up a G-Shock. That being said, it's a fine watch for ordinary folks doing ordinary things, maybe even a little recreational diving.
I wore a Marathon TSAR on a deployment to the sandbox. I'm not a tanker so yeah the banging around part wasn't an issue, but in the other services where we are allowed to have thoughts independent of the NCOIC as long as you weren't wearing it outside of your blouse sleeve outside the wire no one cared, and they're significantly harder to destroy then you give them credit for.
Iball nonya I’ve owned a GSAR for years, and it’s by far the most durable watch I’ve ever owned (including multiple GShocks). The GSAR is ISO 6425 rated, and is 300 meter water resistant. I would not expect this watch to be issued to infantry, but to divers. It’s well documented to be issued to the Canadian Coast guard, and worn by a lot of professional divers. The GShock series are tough, but they are probably better suited for land use, maybe even recreational swimming.

Marc, Please consider making a Field version of your Islander with a 1-24 dial and a ceramic NSEW compass bezel. Island Traveler?
Okay, thank you!!!
Nice review, especially the example of the white fox running around, lmao. This is going to be my next Marathon, love my GSAR.White dial makes it look expensive and dressy.Red second hand is the perfect touch. All the best.
OMG!! The ultimate tool watch!! Love it, Mark!!
Thanks for checking it out.
Great looking watch. Loving the white dials lately.
Thank you.

Apart from the fact that Marathon produces great watch I've never seen any photo of military forces wearing Marathons. Mostly Casio G-Shock DWs
@@indramatic great instance, thank you
I'm guessing they don't want the enemy to strip a nice watch, if things go pearshaped.
Dag Sabot If things go bad, the opposition force will be taking everything their prisoner or the KIA has, whether it is a $10 Casio or a Rolex that we all used to wear.
@@dagsabot5589 That doesn't make any sense. This watch costs nothing compared to any number of other costs associated with losing somebody in combat.
Very, very nice watch.
Thank you.
$640 and they don't bother with a milled clasp...am I being too picky?
I have the black-dialled one, and feel the same way.
I love milled clasps. I have a $350 citizen with one and my buddy with a $2500 Tag hates to admit that my bracelet is better.
Always love a quartz piece for which the seconds hand actually hits the markers.
They do a great job.
Great watch thinking of getting this watch, yeah people need to realize that their eyes need to adjust to the darkness lol
Nice, looks great.
Thanks!
Cold looking watch!
Thank you.
that giant M on the dial kills those for me.
Stands for "Marc"
Ye ha ha. They'll probably expand the line sson if this one sells
Do they have these in automatic ?
I love my 36 tsar, but man i wear the desert tan navigator as a beater waayyy more 😫😫😤😱🤯
That's a beater for sure.
Hey Marc

is the clasp replaceable with after market milled ones?
thats a nice piece!
Thanks
Hey Marc, any word on the Orient Triton bezel inserts? Thanks!
End october.
@@islandwatch nice! Thank you Marc!

Dool! @Marc, are you carrying the US or NGM version of this watch?
This is an wesome watch. Will they make it in 42mm like thier watches?
Probably if this one sells well
Will there be an all black version like the GSAR? Thanks.
That white dial is killer, I like the radioactive symbol also.
Thanks!
Hello Marc, great vid as always. I've seen a mechanical version mentioned for this model. Have you heard anything about that?
Nothing yet.
Great review, robust watch. Just a wee bit pricey. Excellent video.
Thank you
Mark What is the plan for the customer when the tritium wears out?
What size clasp would I need to swap out for a milled one?
Torque yes please. I read that the GS 9 f quartz movement has so much of that torque the seconds hands are pretty dense to soak it up! That's one mother of a stepper motor? That watch is pretty cool also.Cheers.GG
Glenn Powell don’t quite follow please elaborate

very very cool

Mark, is the quartz version thinner than the auto?

"smaller wrists we are here for you" 😂
power!
I've got a 7 1/2" wrist and still love the 36mm-38mm divers.
If I need more proof that smaller watches still looks great on larger wrists, this video would be it.
I think it's the white dial that does it.
That is a beautiful watch, i wish i had one because i believe there Great watches
Thank you.
I have a 36mm in black which I never use. Any good?
how much do you want for it?
Still waiting on the JSAR to come down to $250. Black Friday Sale?
Never.
Can’t a boy dream?
weight of the watch without strap?
I'd definitely buy one of them but I'd have to go for an auto even though it makes them even more pricey then they are.
I'm sure that will come eventually.
Good looking but a little high in price. Thanks for sharing them Marc. 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
Welcome!
Is the bezel ceramic or not please
Etched aluminum.
Aw man, they forgot to invert the colors of the date wheel on the black one... Woops!
Marathons are a cross between a watch and a hockey puck.
NASA used them for their search and rescue divers.
Enjoy my old TSAR. Worth every penny.
Hockey Puck, Tuna Can, yup.
Idk, it just doesn't tickle my bits
Maybe next time!
Why do you wake up in the middle of the night, Marc? Are you okay?
LOL. Thinking about selling more watches.
in a 41 mm I'm in but my wrist is 7.5" so I'm out
Aight, everyone buybtgese up like hotcakes so Marathon will produce more of them in other models.
Like a white face JDD in PVD case.
Love it, but the lume is a bit of a let down, was expecting better.
Jason Emanuel I’ve got the GSAR, once you have a watch with tritium tubes you’ll think that all lume is weak, trust me the video can’t do it justice.
@@patricktutek7933 I agree ... I can see it across the room at night ... all night.
That's why I gave the caveat!

👍
Any other small divers under 200
Ben B skx has a 38?
:)
Beautiful watch. Too small for my wrist and too rich for my blood but nice 👌
Double miss :)
$600 for a quartz, no thanks, im sure Voztok is a better option, or Casio Marlin
You can't put quartz and price in the same comparison statement.
Why would anyone want a white dial diver watch ? Lol
Maybe because they look great?
Cause they are awesome-sauce!
Search and rescue man! Lol
Its pronounced zar
Its russian
