    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
An argument between Howard (Ryan O'Neal) and Eunice (Madeline Kahn) quickly escalates when a fire breaks out.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
With Howard Hawks's Bringing Up Baby (1938) as his blueprint, Peter Bogdanovich resurrected and payed homage to 1930s screwball comedy in What's Up, Doc? (1972). When wacky co-ed Judy Maxwell (Barbra Streisand, in the Katharine Hepburn part) spies nebbishy musicologist Howard Bannister (Ryan O'Neal in bespectacled Cary Grant mode) in a San Francisco hotel lobby, she decides that Howard and his precious igneous rocks are right up her alley. Too bad Howard already has a fiance, the propriety-fixated Eunice (Madeline Kahn in her film debut). Using all her arcane knowledge from brief stays at numerous colleges, Judy tries to charm her way to a $20,000 grant for Howard, and Howard himself, at a banquet with grantor Frederick Larrabee (Austin Pendleton). Things get even more complicated the next day when Judy's underwear-filled overnight bag gets mixed up with Howard's rock bag, which gets mixed up with Mrs. Van Hoskins' bag of jewels, which gets mixed up with Mr. Smith's bag of top secret government papers. All sides converge at Larrabee's mod townhouse and the chase begins. Retaining Hawks' machine-gun pace (as well as the sly pop culture referentiality of Billy Wilder), Bogdanovich and writers Buck Henry, David Newman, and Robert Benton updated the opposites-attract screwball convention for contemporary times. O'Neal gently parodied not only Grant but also his own Love Story (1970) preppy, while Kahn represents stiff-wigged 1950s manners as opposed to Streisand's long-haired, pants-wearing free spirit. The happy ending, in which Cole Porter-belting youth wins out over old manners, found favor with audiences, as What's Up, Doc? became one of the most popular films of 1972, and the second hit in a row for Bogdanovich after 1971's The Last Picture Show.

My favorite character in this scene is the waiter calmly getting the meal ready.

The keystone cops firemen chopping at the wrong room! And then all tripping on the hose! Absolutely not necessary for the story. But absolutely a nice touch!

A couple things: That waiter is super focused to setting a great meal up for his customer, then again when asking for the bill signature.
Also, the stuff they use to try and put out the fire. As soon as Fritz gets there he tries to throw a sundae at the fire. Haha I've seen this movie probably 70 times and I've never caught that. And the guy stoking the fire with his golf clubs. This movie is the best!

Bro, those were your things? He slammed the ledge door shut on a person standing on inches of ledge. Maybe back then a woman was strong enough to pull herself up and catch onto that ledge, but now obeisity and stupidity rot at the heart of the brainwashed public that are dumber then the rocks the guy carries throught the whole movie.

I remember watching this scene as a child when I was like 5 years old. It scared the crap out of me when the TV exploded. Something about the flames inside the monitor. It was like the TV became possessed by a demon haha.

My sister said she thought Barbra’s towel was going to fall off. In Nuts, she said “Please I don’t do baths.” Leslie Nielsen should have said: Don’t give me that - you took a bath in What’s Up, Doc? and The Owl & The Pussycat.” I know but I only do it movies with punctuation in the title - Nuts doesn’t have any.

99% of the movies from the 70s, and older, are just awful. This scene is over acted in a bad way, slow paced, obnoxious and just not funny. This clip is horrible.
