@jennifersman7990 ironically, I saw this film before I saw "Love Story". While at first I liked the Live Story, I later realized what a stupid film it was. However, it gave me more of a laugh for the last line of this film.
Honestly there is not a funnier movie from start to finish than this gem of a comedy. From megastar Streisand to Madeline Kahn’s debut role and Ryan O’Neal and everyone else it’s perfectly cast directed and acted - Streisand really is a comedic genius.
It’s Streisand’s best performance and best film, because it’s not an epic and she barely sings it gets downgraded in her pantheon but it’s the most successfully put together movie she was in, it’s gold. Comedy is hard enough in front of a live audience that helps the performers to get the timing and performance right, it’s a million times harder in a movie shot line by line, but Bogdanovich pulled it off big time with perfect casting and not one single dud performance even from the tiny bit parts. A gem.
My all time favorite comedy! "I am not A Eunice Burns, I'm THE Eunice Burns!.."🤣 "Perhaps you have the wrong convention?" "This...is outrageous!"😂 The dialogue looks so simple, but it's the delivery from these genius comedic actors who make this film great.
"This is outrageous!" --The scene with Eunis flailing her way into (and then being dragged out) of the banquet makes me split a gut every time I see it.
The Courtroom scene is one of my favorite scenes in any movie of all time XD SO hilarious! I can almost imagine Judge Judy getting that frustrated too with HER cases.
Liam Dunn steals the entire movie..quite an accomplishment given the brilliant screenplay and impeccable comic timing of LITERALLY EVERYONE lol. This, Young Frankenstein, Holy Grail, Princess Bride, Galaxy Quest and A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum are my all-time comfort movies.
That is the funniest movie ever! All the actors did a brilliant job! The script, timing, etc are just the best! I hope they all had the best time making it as we all did seeing it! 😂😂😂
I don't know how many times my family and I have watched this movie, it's so hysterically funny 😅😅 A couple years ago my sister and her husband and I were at a party playing a game they were on a separate team than the one I was on. When we were asked to name our favorite comedy, the three of us all named this movie! The woman I was teamed up with had never even heard of it 😒
Still as refreshing and funny as when I first saw it as a child at Radio City. Everyone in the cast shines, and the writing and dialogue is hilarious,, and not to mention: This movie either had to be a stunt persons dream, or NIGHTMARE ! LOL
Peter Bogdanovich was on TCM after What's Up Doc was on. He said Barbra didn't originally think the movie was all that funny. He took her to Radio City Music Hall. Even when 6000 people were howling with laughter, she said people have strange tastes. Later, Barbra told him she now appreciates it's humor.
Mr. Bannister, I have a message from the entire staff...what is it? Godd-bye. That's the entire message? When do they want me to leave? Yesterday. That soon? LOL!
H: What happened at the last school? J: Nothing. Absolutely nothing, it was a little classroom, it sort of, burned down. H: Burned down? J: Well blew up actually H: Political Activism? J: Chemistry Major
OMG I had totally forgotten this movie. Will have to see about buying it...haven laughs so much in ages...good, clean, superbly timed delivery...every actor was fantastic in their role
Missed my favorite. "Neither you want to marry Eunice." "Why not?" "You don't want to marry someone whose going to get all wrinkled, lined, and flabby." "EVERYONE get wrinkled, lined, and flabby." "By next week?"
Liam turned up a lot on Barney Miller too. The best was when he played a carriage driver whose horse is stolen, so he steals another one, from the police barn. At one point Fish asked him how much he could make driving a carriage, Liam- “you mean like reported income?” Fish-“That much…?”
I was today years old when I discovered that Liam Dunn (Judge Maxwelll) had never acted before this. He was a casting director, but what a brilliant asset to the film he was. He also appeared in Blazing Saddles.
Thank you for putting together this great collection of scenes. I'm a dedicated movie buff, addicted to TCM, and this is high on my list of favourite movies ever. I was about 10 when it was released, so didn't see it in theatres, but my sister and I watched it every time it was on TV when we were growing up, and we can both recite pretty well the complete script. So many hilarious lines. Buck Henry's brilliant script, Peter Bogdanovich's great directing, and one of the best comedy casts ever. Wish Streisand had done more comedies. Her line deliveries and vocal inflections in this are so funny. Ryan O'Neal was never a great dramatic actor, but he's very funny here and has the perfect understated delivery. And Madeline Kahn is mind-boggling in her brilliance. Love how she uses her voice and her comic timing is priceless. One of my big thrills was seeing her on Broadway later in Born Yesterday, after having loved her so much in this and also in Paper Moon and Young Frankenstein. So sad that she left us so early. For anyone who hasn't seen the great 1930s comedy Bringing up Baby, with Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn, it was the loose inspiration for this one, and is amazing. Critics when this came out sort of sniffily said it didn't compare to those great screwball comedies, but it absolutely does. One of the reasons Barbra's character keeps calling Howard "Steve" is because the wife of Howard Hawks, who directed Bringing up Baby and was one of Bogdanovich's favourites, also did that with her husband!
“What’s up Doc highlights”? I think you mean the entire movie. Also, can I just comment on how sad I am that you didn’t include this: “Has anyone ever told you that you’re incredibly sexy?” “Well actually, no.” “They never will.” 🤣🤣🤣
This film was HUGE when it came out. I remember one competition with the prize of an all expenses paid trip for two to San Francisco (from Australia). They played a clip of Barbra Streisand without sound and to enter you had to guess what she was saying ("What's Up, Doc?"). I saw it in the cinema on a cubs outing. I'll never forget the laughter in that packed cinema. Good memory.
Truly one of the classic comedies. I saw it with my college roommates in 1972, and I had to step out for a minute to catch my breath. We were laughing so hard, I thought I might pass out 🤣 The jokes and sight gags just didn’t stop!
The very end scene where the judge askes to see who is under the cover, revealed to be the judges daughter, and the bench collapses, that is the funniest part to me
3:43-4:20 The waiter is hysterical! Looking for someone to sign the bill and lifting the plate so Fritz can pull off the tablecloth, he's maybe my favorite character!
Epic.Used to be a certainty on Irish TV every Christmas with Casablanca, the original Willy Wonka, The Railway Children, etc. Each of them wonderful and a aid to having very happy memories of Twelve Days when the real world was set aside in favour of peace and goodwill to all...
I've visited this video before but I just had to say again that this is the FUNNIEST movie that I have ever seen in my life. Everytime I see any of the scenes from it I just am rolling on the floor with laughter 🤣🤣🤣
4:00-I love the overly zealous fireman just breaking down the first door he sees! 🤣 Then all the firemen being stopped by the length of the fire hose! Complete chaos at its best! I think the closest thing that matched this moment was the cold opening to the episode in The Office (US version) when Dwight "tests" the office staff to see if they follow emergency procedures.
I saw this movie when it was out at the Jersey Shore on the boardwalk in Ocean City! I was 14 years old then. Went in for a break from the heat in the A/C theater and came away with the funniest movie experience in my life!!! Still laugh till I cry when I see it again! My favorite scene is with the judge in court explaining why he takes all the colored pills! Drop dead funny!!! I simply LOVE this movie!!!
Used to work with an old Polish woman who claimed to have every conceivable illness and took numerous pills every day, told her about this scene and she cracked up laughing. Whenever she had some ailment I’d mention this and she’d still laugh
I read an article on this movie a long time ago that said the stunt man was injured because the table was supposed to collapse when he fell on it and it didn't. Still painful to watch all these years later.
I promise to God one day I’m gonna go to The Florida Bar convention sit outside in the lobby watching this. Hopefully if I ever get any judges to go around me will have a good laugh together
Great film... And you've done an excellent job of giving up the flavor without spoiling anything. I have owned this movie is every format since i was old enough to tape it! Haha! You got just about every one of my favorite line readings. Really fun to watch!
And the woman he trips is Mabel Albertson, who played Darren Stevens mother on "Bewitched" and was the sister of "Chico & The Man" star Jack Albertson.
My favorite exchange is missing:
Eunice: 'They tried to molest me'
Judge: 'That's...unbelievable'
They should’ve included O’Neal’s last line ;
Barbra-“Love means never having to say you’re sorry”
O’Neal-“That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard…”
@jennifersman7990 ironically, I saw this film before I saw "Love Story". While at first I liked the Live Story, I later realized what a stupid film it was. However, it gave me more of a laugh for the last line of this film.

I couldn't agree with you more! 👍🏻🥰
Yes, she is -- and for the most part strangely absent from these clips . . .
it's like Mad Mad Mad Mad World meets the 1970's
It’s Streisand’s best performance and best film, because it’s not an epic and she barely sings it gets downgraded in her pantheon but it’s the most successfully put together movie she was in, it’s gold. I agree, one of the funniest films I've seen
"Is that clear"... "No, but it's consistent"... I've been using that in meetings for 30 years now and it still makes a point and gets a laugh 😊
This should have won an Oscar for best original screenplay!
RIP Peter Bogdanovich! You gave us one of the greatest comedies ever made.
R.I.P. Buck Henry, writer of this all time GREAT screenplay.
The courtroom scene is a gut buster!
Barbra talks so fast when explaining what kind of rocks she likes. They left out her singing bit. Loved this 70's comedy.
Probably the most underrated comedy of all time. It ranks with the original The Producers. Kahn is Queen of Comedy.
This was Madeline's first movie.
the way things were choreographed- like the firemen falling over in the hotel.
so goood
A movie that's very funny without any foul language
Well said, its one of my favourite movies of all time.
It’s my favorite comedy and I actually never thought about that but yes so true. That’s really great 👍🏻
My all time favorite comedy!
"I am not A Eunice Burns, I'm THE Eunice Burns!.."🤣 "Perhaps you have the wrong convention?" "This...is outrageous!"😂 The dialogue looks so simple, but it's the delivery from these genius comedic actors who make this film great.
The way her legs dragged across the floor! Hilarious.
one of my favorite comedies ever. brilliant script, timing and acting.
"Don't touch me, I'm a doctor."
"Of what?"
"Music."
"Can you fix a hi-fi?"
"No, sir."
"Then shut up."
Yeah lmao 😂
One of my favorite quotes lol
24 carat comedy perfection
Great movie, great comedy, great cast !!!! My favorite comedy. love this movie, RIP Madeline Kahn, she was hysterical.
It was her first role in film.
The car chases alone makes this movie great.
The bit with the glass...🤣
"This is outrageous!" --The scene with Eunis flailing her way into (and then being dragged out) of the banquet makes me split a gut every time I see it.
The wavy heel marks were a great thought.
It's funny but I feel sorry for the poor woman
The Courtroom scene is one of my favorite scenes in any movie of all time XD SO hilarious! I can almost imagine Judge Judy getting that frustrated too with HER cases.
Liam Dunn steals the entire movie..quite an accomplishment given the brilliant screenplay and impeccable comic timing of LITERALLY EVERYONE lol. This, Young Frankenstein, Holy Grail, Princess Bride, Galaxy Quest and A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum are my all-time comfort movies.
THE BEST MOVIE EVER..................
Way....WAY ahead of it's time. So much better than anything out today.
This and "It's a mad, mad, mad, mad world"......the best comedy movies ever.
That is the funniest movie ever! All the actors did a brilliant job! The script, timing, etc are just the best! I hope they all had the best time making it as we all did seeing it! 😂😂😂

"Why are you taking a bubble bath Howard?" "It came out of the faucet that way." 😂😂😂😂
The guy who leaps the wall to escape the rolling trash cans, only to land on a table...omg! I can FEEL that, every time, lol
LOL - I remember that.. Or the guy who's head tears through the tarp and then he's ejected from the car into the water !

@@MVR326 yes! Awesome special effects!
My favorite comedy of all time. It's simply perfect in my opinion.
Thanx! Mom and Dad for taking me to see this fun movie back in 1972, Growing up in the 60's and 70's was sweet!
This film doesn't get the love it deserves. My favorite comedy (Airplane! is #2 and Bringing Up Baby #3)!
The definition of a screwball comedy
Mr. Bannister, I have a message from the entire staff...what is it? Godd-bye. That's the entire message? When do they want me to leave? Yesterday. That soon? LOL!
And as they’re leaving the room Howard tries to apologize again and the manager says “Oh, that’s alright, we’ve got lots of others”
The best part? We can receive every line by heart 😅😅😅
H: What happened at the last school?
J: Nothing. Absolutely nothing, it was a little classroom, it sort of, burned down.
H: Burned down?

The judge at the end is played by Liam Dunn, a great character actor. He later went on to appear in several Mel Brooks movies. ❤️

“Well I don’t think of you as a woman Eunice “
'I am Hugh." " You are me?" " No, I am Hugh!" " Stop saying that! Make him stop saying that!." Great writing by Buck Henry and delivery by the actors.
I am not repeating myself, I am not repeating myself, Oh My God I am repeating myself.
I have worked that into conversations and always got a laugh!

Hugh: 'I find that as difficult to swallow as this potage au gelee'
Judy: 'How would ya like one sandwich de knuckles?'
YES!! I will set up the scene and recite that bit between the two of them and I ALWAYS get a laugh!
Love at 7:15 when Howard says "It gets kind of complicated now" and the judge is like "NOW it gets complicated?!"
