Only the Dutch know the following:
Er staat een paard in de Gang (There is a horse in the corridor)
'K heb twee grote bloemkoole (I have 2 big cauliflowers)
Weet je wat ik zou willen zijn? Een bloemetjesgordijn! (Do you know what I want to be, a flower curtain!)
Het is weer tijd voor de Polonaise Hollandaise, van hier tot Oeteldonk, bij Hoevelaken linksaf! (It's time for the Polonaise Hollandaise, from here to Den Bosch, at Hoevelaken turn left)
We showed these sentences to foreigners who are learning Dutch, and let them guess what this is about...
Of course... these are phrases from the most famous Dutch carnival songs. But that's not quite obvious... and it's hilarious to watch how these foreigners try to guess the deeper meaning of these Dutch carnival song phrases...
