Owned an EP3 for 7 years, was absolutely faultless except from general wear and tear stuff. Moved on to a DC5 that i have had for just over 5 years and had the same experience with reliability. Newer cars seem so soulless, they do absolutely nothing for me. Every time i got in the civic or my teg i have an absolute blast! For people that dont understand how to drive them properly, they are really missing out!
Honda uk started off building the EP3. Honda Japan then imported it back to Japan, made their improvements and sold it in the Japanese market Ep3 with vastly better equipment (similar to the DC5 spec) The FN2 was a designed and built European car. Built in Swindon also. Yes they were imported back to Japan in very small numbers as the type R Euro but ultimately Japan decided the FD2 would be a far better fit and base to start from for their market.
Always loved these. Mugen front lip really finishes the front end. The modern engines don’t quite have the sound of the old na ones but that’s the sign of the times with forced induction. But having owned a Dc5 and now an fk2 the fk2 is a better all rounder. Have also driven a mk7 golf r and compared to the fk2 it’s not in the same league in terms of driving experience. The steering and the driver involvement is so much better than a golf r.
Great video. Like you Type Rs got their claws into me young and while I am enjoying other brands now and torque…The fd2 is feeling like an itch I have to scratch.
Love these! DC5 owner for 6 years, but with a kid now it doesn't get driven that often, often think these would be a perfect next step. Though never owned a rwd, so have the gr86 calling in my ear (admittedly even less practical than a DC5).
What I don't understand is how the DC5 gets so much hate for its MacPherson struts, yet the FD2 has the same suspension and is pretty universally loved.
To be frank, keep your dc5. I owned a BRZ and even to this day I miss my car, but would swap for a Honda type r every day of the week. Much more fun even it's fwd.
I had a 2004 pearl blue one with 54k miles for two years absolutely loved it, lots of room, big boot, 6 speed, plenty of Power, super comfy and pretty good on fuel if you don't nail it everywhere 😂...... sold it 3 years ago an I miss it alot 😢
In 2010 I spent my deposit for my first house on one. Had it 18 months and lost £200 still miss it now. I have an fk8 now it’s a better car in almost every way just not got the character and it’s too big
Love seeing the honda content coming back out , the civic needs to make a apperace soon dude 100% the dc2 is the daddy of them Part from the nsx Would love to see what you'd say about my alfa if you reviewed it 😅
Always wanted one but they’re m5 money now 😢 I remember them being 10k but at the time I couldn’t swing it, now I’m not sure if they’re better all round car than an f10 m5. I’ll have to go drive both this summer and see what I really want. Thanks for the video mate hope you and Fin are good
Went from a modified ep3 to a stock FD2 and wow such a diffrence i can puxh my ep3 toy the edge but cant do it with the FD2 car can out drive me its nuts what it can do stock
malaysia got these too, lucky bastards lol... Honda really did keep the best models to their own markets, the Si we got in North america is similar - but as far away as the FN2 is to this
I have seen a non-hybrid Manual model of this someday on Autotrader. Checked the plates with DVLA and wasn't an import either. Exact same FD2 Body. Not sure if that was Type R though (no spoiler). It was listed for a measly £4000. I regret not buying it every day. :(
hello my friend nice car - higher rpm is more safe on a racetrack so you don't loop on the powerband or anything unexpected Hondas are the easiest cars to drive in the world lol
Good vid mate, but FK8 is in a diff league to a MK7 R - even with a blindfold lol. So much more character and feel vs the MQB (MK7 Chassis) platform imo
Even the FK2 was miles better than an mk7 R. It's the most raw of the modern turbo type r. I think the rear beam on the fn2 gets a bit too much hate. I had an FN2 for over 3 years, i thought it handled brilliant. Still a good video, no doubt an FD2 is one of the honda greats.@adamivell
FK8 is torque at low end and power at the high end when on VTEC. I feel like Honda solved the gutless low end NA with their turbo technology. Don't get me wrong I'd still love to own an FD2 but I wont be selling the FK8 either
The Fd2r is the last best all motor car built by Honda and I am very glad to own one.😊
Proud owner here from Malaysia😊 yes we do have here officially from Honda. Best ever TypeR and the last true NA beast🫡
Great video. I am happy honda uk never sold them over here. Otherwise they would be everywhere. I love driving my fd2 and hardly ever seeing one 👌
I am sitting in my 2008 fa5 with suspension and full devsport diffuser kit right now watching this. Thank you Adam. They are truly one of a kind.

You spoke so well in this video about comparing the Honda models and putting across all you know about the brand, interesting video, nice one!
My fn2 is on rails, don’t think the rear beam is that bad

Yes mate! Honda content always my favourite 👌👌
I haven’t watched your videos for years, but I had to come back in when I got a notification about the FD2, I had to come back.
Welcome back mate, hopefully you'll stick around, ive got some really fun stuff lined up
@@adamivell cheers mate, I’ll keep checking in for sure

You won't be disappointed 👍
To me your name will always be associated with Honda. I was subscribed when all your content was Honda
Lovely car, great review. Whilst I’m stuck with my EP3 until I finish it, I’d love to try a true JDM Honda next 👌🏼

I meant fk2, I’m not too hot on the newer models as I couldn’t afford any lol

also one of favorite cars
Honda content ftw!🫡
like it son 🔥💯💪🏻
What do you recommend? A fd2 or fl5? Thanks
I’m still yet to drive an FL5 but I do love them
@@adamivellRight and it’s way easier to find one
Would you not consider the JDM ep3 in that list of true Type Rs too?
Think I’m a bitter Englishman that our English built type r got upgrades for a different market 😂
I want one...
Sexy car !
