That's my dream engine! Love it!
always a great time at your spot, thanks
soooo glad your posting vids again! awesome as usual!
N/A motors. Instant horsepower!
Straight out of hell 🤘🔥
You guys have to much fun
Love old school, looks awesome
Thank you for another great video
Welcome back!!!
Awesome engine 😎
I made carb spacers and also some Honda intake manifold spacers back in the day 96-99 using MDF worked great I also coated them with Chemical Resistant Epoxy
Good video I learned a lot
very nice build! as always....
Man what an engine
Nice looking new dyno room, and dyno Tom.
Nasty!!
That thing is bad ass. Tom, have you ever tried a carb with the Willy's Super Bowl system?
cars and motors of dream you are true artists compliments to Tom for the very nice comments
Loving that motor, believe the LSX 454R kicking a whopping 776hp
My fav motor besides the 350 & 427. 💪🏿👊🏿
I’d love to see what the inside of the splittable intake runners looks like
Before you mentioned it all I was thinking about was that plenum volume.
Nice!!!
Have you guys ever work on 80's TPI engine??
Can’t Wait to meet Ya Man”!! Shhittt
Scary!
Man that motor is vicous to say the least.
It be cool if u guys listed the set up build great engine great vid
Badass motor, no doubt. Will you include that highly specialized MDF carb spacer in the purchase price? Gotta have that.
Tom, take my damn Pontiac GTA and do something with it...
... just give it back when you're done lol. ;)
Wow that’s responsive.
Thats one nasty pissed off angry engine bad ass hell
You still working on that AWD gto?
Carburetor for life here
Always hit the starter button before shutting it off.
That balancer is awfully wobbly
Sweet!!!..😁😎 put a couple of those in a bad ass cigarette boat 😳👍👍🇺🇸
Mr. Nelson, could you please explain to me why this is a notable result on an extreme build, when my simple forged stock block LS7 made 700 on pump gas (610 thru chassis dyno)?
I likey :)
Man that intake and sump have me questioning if I really need a college fund for my kids.....maybe they will be happy fry cooks.....
Billy Beane don't be selfish nobody like being a fry cook.
Nice one😁😂🤣
Nre 454 lsx 710hp wow
I love the carburetor setup with the ls msd, I just did my 97 chevy, carbed 5.3 and it runs just as good as efi, response is really good on carbs, I was able to do my own tune also just by rejetting (:
What would you put this motor in guys? I say a 96 impala ss
Hoak a doke, I like that
Are the parts used on the motor for sale in your website?
Very cool. But I have a question because I'm curious. I know it wouldn't be driveable, but what is the max RPM's you could take this to? What would the power be? I'm thinking 9K RPM could be achievable. Wondering what that would make, sound like. Obviously it would be for racing purposes only.
Did you really try and start it while it was running? Sure sounded like it before turning it off?
I dunno bout' usin' MDF in hi vacuum man
Gas will effect the glue in that shit dude
Sweet idea for initial design
Helluva lot cheaper than composites
They have a high density MDF called rangerboard
That shit is like concrete
Good to see the Dyno up and running again
Later days man
Whats the compression ratio?
I have a iron LS1 5.3 punched to 5.7...I don't know about running a road track wet sump oil pan w a trap door or dry sump...it's going in a 92' RS Camaro and seeing road course racing every now and then but mostly a daily driver
Do U have Any Magic 4 a 2005 Cadillac STS V8 RWD?
Want that
I really want to know your thoughts on how to get a aluminum LS2 in the 500 whp area naturally aspirated
Stroke it into the 400+ inch range, and change to rectangle port heads
Yea, no need to hit the start-buttin when it'e already running correct?
I heard that soft starter gear grind on that hard flywheel.
All of you can have this build for only $20K, and if you order today you can have it for only $19,500
what heads and cam
Did GM improve the LSX core shift and thin cylinder wall issues ? There is some drama floating around the internet about that.
Might want to check for out of round on the balancer. Could be the video feed, but it looks pretty bent. That will wipe out the front main in a hurry.
blake dymond u
Bad 454,thanks Nelson,
Hey Tom, I am sure you get this a lot... but what happened to the billet block OHC 32 valve motor you were building?
Im also interested on that. Hp ca. 3500?
It went out the window with ARIAS (Spelling?). Their heads were not always received well.
Is it possible that I can ship a block to you and you will build it and ship it back I've been following you guys for a minute you do the best work I've seen by far
cooter Brown Yes no problem
Cooter. Yeah sure. Promise no Voodoo. =}
@@tomnelson2551
Heck my yota echo havin leaks fer headjasket plz help?
Why are carbs even used anyone? Do they still stand up against EFI??
Why is the harmonic balancer wobbling all over the place?
Nice catch.
Yes,that really nasty.
Idk but it was good to 7500 rpm.lol
Optical illusion
Sooooo like....this is basically the LSX 454R. Whats the difference?
What ever happened to the dohc billet small block
oops.. Hit the starter button instead of the kill.... I have never done that.. Big Blocks Rule !!
Is this an iron block
Ya but for 1599 you could do efi
At what price though?
that thing revs now for being NA . id get a cramp in my shin trying to control my foot with that thing
454 small block Chevy!!!!!!!
331sbf say what you wanna lil guy
331sbf I see you have the knowledge of a rock which is nothing
331sbf look it up it’s Chevy all day do your research
331sbf gm is General Motors aka Chevy has always been will always be now I see that you like Ford that’s fine your choice but don’t be mad that CHEVY RULES now remember we’re not on a ford page so if you don’t like powerful engines find a ford video on UA-cam and have at it now go away
Thats one pissed of engine
Can you put a turbo on this
Compression ratio too high
Maybe General Motors should try building cars with them fitted instead of only the 3.6 litre V6 with 2 hairdryers bolted onto them,I think a bigger cubic inch capacity is the way to go as I think that there is still no replacement for displacement.
At least the 364 cubic inch capacity LS3 sort of engine should be kept in cars such as the Cadillac as they have been dropped as an option in that car,I don't know why ????
Opel had no intention of fitting a V8 engine into the Insignia which has been rebadged & exported to the U.S. & Australia as the Buick Regal & the Holden Commodore.
Note Holden were doing better building their own cars in Australia which included the LS V8 engine as an option,it was cheaper to build them in Australia so I don't know what the hell General Motors was thinking by closing that down in Australia because the new Commodore hasn't been selling since then.
I haven't seen them on the road so obviously no one wants them, maybe they need to think about what to do way before 2021 when Opel ,the now Peugeot owned company pulls the plug on the Insignia since they aren't renewing their contract with General Motors, they are building their cars on a Peugeot since their divorce with General Motors !!!!
Russell Booth idunno, forced induction seems like a good replacement for displacement
Throw in a 250 shot and go drag racing!
Ever log
3:05 Umm, thats not a "Big block" Large cube/ displacement sure but it's not a "Big block"
I think it's a Powerstroke...
"Big Block" is any engine with a bore to bore center of 4.84in or greater. This designation came from the "old school" chev 396/427/454 (4.84in, bore center to center) and became the std of the industry.
What about the 348?
I made a basic video about Big Blocks and small blocks. In the big picture, I consider a block with the ability to have a bore 4.5" or more, with a minimum of .250" wall thickness, and 3500PSI cylinder pressure in 80% of the material endurance limit to be a big block. From my calculations, that means you need a 4.75" bore spacing or higher, with a minimum of 8.75" deck height.
The reason I say that, is because a 4-valve head generally out-flows a 2-valve head by 20% for the same bore. That means you can compare a 4.125" bore 4-valve engine to a 2-valve engine with a 10% bigger bore. If you have a 4.125" bore engine with 4-valves, the nearest 2-valve competitor will need at least a 4.535" bore, and an appropriately designed cylinder head and camshaft setup.
I consider a 4.125" bore to be the practical limit for a daily driven 4.4" bore space engine. (So you can have a .030 overbore after 200K miles to 4.155"). That means a 3.63" bore 4-valve can compare to a 4" bore 2-valve. This is why the M3 4.0, Coyote, and LS3 are equal engines for the most part, but the LS3 seems to win more often. The LS3 is a better designed engine. The mercury SB4 is the 4-valve 4.125" bore engine to compete with. It makes the same power as Tom Nelson's 572 big block, with a near 4.6" bore.
This block is bigger than the standard LS series blocks and is therefore a "Big Block"
LSX Bowtie Block - Tall Deck
• 3.880" finished siamese cylinder bores
• 9.720" semi-finished standard deck height (ready to be decked)
• 4.500" maximum stroke (small base circle camshafts required)
• Capable of 364- to 500-cubic-inch displacements or more!
• Orange powder-coated finish
• Accepts Gen IV LS and LSX Series heads, cranks, cams, etc.
• Approximate finished weight is 250 pounds
how the hell do you build these amazing engines then you go ahead and push the start button while its running ? smh
Not ohv
Do you guys ever mess with 4 cylinder engines?
Pretty sure they only do American V8's.
don't give him any bad ideas....only v8's here.....lol
actually would be interesting to see what the mad scientist could come up with
I have seen different engines tho. One was a Lamborghini Diablo VT they were boosting to 1000hp, and the other was some 900hp Lexus with a singleturbo Toyota V8.
Ha ha, I love the 600hp, max power gauge on your dyno! You guys haven't
built an engine under 600hp in 10 years !!!
