Few things to mention. If you’re paying the price for a gx460 you shouldn’t worry about gas mileage(my opinion). My wife just got 2023 gx460 Executive package and I have a 2022 4Runner TRD PRO. We bought these for reliability not fuel economy. The GX with the V8 and 6speed drives beautifully. These are real 4x4’s they shouldn’t feel like you’re driving a car. There are way too many electronics in new vehicles these days to me it’s just more things to break down. Disappointing to see all electronic controls on screen. I prefer buttons and knobs for controls. Just like my previous Tundra no cylinder deactivation or shut off every time you stop is great. Yes Toyota has been using turbos for a lot of years but I’m not convinced the new ones are going to hold up as well. My opinion is keep it simple! The one thing that would change my mind about buying a new gx,4Runner,Landcruiser is a solid front axle, then it could give Jeep a run for the money in.

Feels like half of your points are exactly backwards. Mpg “dramatically” better is just click bait. 1 mpg improvement is such a disappointment. People don’t buy a gx for fuel efficiency. They buy them for reliability. This update didn’t significantly add mpg and it did significantly reduce reliability. Resale value - I seriously don’t understand how you could make that statement. My guess is that the 20-23 GXs just gained thousands in resale value. That high compression V6 will take the long term reliability that the gx has enjoyed for years and throw it out the window.
what's up when the rear seats folded are about 5 inches higher than the trunk floor? Why can't they do a flat cargo behind the front row with the rear seats folded?
The 2024 looks better for sure, will see how the quality is long term, It seems like the new models are using cheaper materials and asking more money for them.
I like both but I would rather have the V8. Reliability on the new model.... turbos will fail at some point. The naturally aspirated engine doesn't have any turbos to fail.
Is 2023 the last year for the gx 460 and it’s being replaced by the gx 550? It’s beautiful, but it’s 10 inches wider than the gx460. Which seems more like a suburban size. Does anyone know?
David, I already missed my 2023 GX 460. Now I am looking for a new one. I really like the look of the new GX 550. I don't know about the reliability though. The timing is also going to be a problem. I don't know when it is going hit the Texas market. I feel like last year when I got my 2023 GX 460 in December and wrecked it in August of this year. 😞
Do you have a different opinion now that we know overall gas mileage is only one MPG better than the V8? Also, I’d like for you to address longevity of the new twin turbo V6 over the V8. The current engine has already been proven to go well over 300,000 miles.
If the Land Cruiser Prado comes to the U.S. and basically looks like this with these capabilities, where does that leave the 4 runner? David, I know you did a video about this in the past, but I want to hear your updated thoughts now that we’ve seen the GX!
@@irichine 4 cyl will be the end of the 4runner. And wth, this new 2024 gx 6cyl only gets 17mpg combined? Towing it will probably get 10mpg. I'm sure this model gx will be much above a reasonable price but yet it gets a cheesey '80s era exposed back windshield wiper & manual flip up back window on a luxury brand. SMH 😢 I just can't imagine how they are about to ruin the 4runner 😢 Just my rant 😂
The 2024 has E-KDSS vs KDSS on current models. Looks more complicated, but Toyota claims better articulation?? Does E-KDSS solve the problem with “Baja Bombing”, where the suspension is too tight for fast off-road?? Does E-KDSS solve the problem with off-camber lean at very slow speeds, where the suspension is too loose and the Truck leans excessively??
David, I know you predicted it but the de-tuned 3.4 V6 makes 30 hp less than a typical Tundra!!! That simply makes no sense. Let's see if Lexus pokes us in the eye with a Premium fuel requirement. 😉😉 I find it interesting that the GX offers pop up glass in the tailgate when the more expensive LX does not. Speaking of tailgates, it seems Toyota has sacrificed tailgate mounted spare tires if the new Prado follows the GX design. 🤨
It will follow the GX and this was predictable. Toyota used to have not only a horizontally split hatch on the Land Cruiser 200 but also vertically split doors on the base model. Toyota is sacrificing capability and practicality during off-road work for cost saving and streamlining. Andrew White from 4xoverland called the Land Cruiser 300 a shopping cart and it's very true.
I'm curious as to if someone will respond to my question. Why doesn't Toyota sell simple pickup trucks for work in South America, but they do sell luxury cars with a great amount of technology. In Europe, Africa, and Australia, Toyota sells simple pickup trucks for work.
You talked me into a 23 Gx , I disagree that the new model looks better ! I love boxy but the new Gx looks aweful . Fuel mileage is a disappointment. Only 1 mpg better . No wires phone charging ? Better tech is only plus in my opinion and better towing
The current GX has 17~18 MPG imo its not so bad consider you can put regular gas since its a really v8 engine. But the new GX you must put the premium gas... Nowadays even V6 mid size SUV are getting around 20MPG, so 2~3 mpg difference are not really big of a deal. If you really care about MPG, go get a Prius, that can trully saves you a lot of gas money.
I would say it resembles somehow the Land Cruiser Prado 90. Also obviously people are not familiar enough with Toyota's experience with turbo charged engines. Toyota have some turbo engines that are more reliable even than those N/A petrol engines like 1UR, 3UR, 2UZ or 1GR people in America are familiar with. Some examples include 2JZ-GTE, 3S-GTE, 7M-GTE and also the iconic diesel 6 inline 1HD-FTE.
A land cruiser with some modifications even though you are identically selling the same car in the name of lexus makes you less likely to be a main competitor to mercedes-benz
Love the retro design and dash-level infotainment screen, BUT, not feeling the billet style lower front grill and fake vents (especially at this price point)….still, WAY better looking than the TX.

Can’t wait to buy one in 15 years
It is looking much better then old one ❤
Feels like half of your points are exactly backwards. Mpg “dramatically” better is just click bait. 1 mpg improvement is such a disappointment. People don’t buy a gx for fuel efficiency. They buy them for reliability. This update didn’t significantly add mpg and it did significantly reduce reliability.
Resale value - I seriously don’t understand how you could make that statement. My guess is that the 20-23 GXs just gained thousands in resale value. That high compression V6 will take the long term reliability that the gx has enjoyed for years and throw it out the window.
Looking forward to the Toyota Lancruiser Prado version….think I’m gonna like that one better!
what's up when the rear seats folded are about 5 inches higher than the trunk floor? Why can't they do a flat cargo behind the front row with the rear seats folded?
Can't wait for your hands on review. Thanks for the preview.
Thank you!
Very nice - will probably see price jump up too on the new model
Is 2023 the last year for the gx 460 and it’s being replaced by the gx 550? It’s beautiful, but it’s 10 inches wider than the gx460. Which seems more like a suburban size. Does anyone know?
David, I already missed my 2023 GX 460. Now I am looking for a new one. I really like the look of the new GX 550. I don't know about the reliability though. The timing is also going to be a problem. I don't know when it is going hit the Texas market. I feel like last year when I got my 2023 GX 460 in December and wrecked it in August of this year. 😞
Too much of a Range Rover knock off for me, but the interior is LOVELY!!! Still no power rear window.
Hello sir ❤
Could you details please about black line and luxury there are different ……. ?
Thanks ❤🎉
Chiv se
Best regards
Hi David. Which one is better do you think - TLC 300, 2022 model or the new GX 550 2024?
I was so excited for this today! Thanks David!!! Can't wait to see how the land cruiser turns out! I love automotive press
I also deep down really wish for a diesel version in the USA but I know that won't happen
It finally looks like a truck that a man would drive again.
Great redesign.
Dave, thank you so much for this video. Very informative. Now, any words about the Toyota land cruise prado????
Seriously thinking about trading in my 2016 GX for the new one
sell it yourself
Hi David,do you know the weight of the vehicle and if it has aluminium panels?
Thanks you for the review! 3rd row, still crammed?
Looks like a winner 🏁
Looks like a Jeep patriot and Highlander had a baby. Buy em up boys. Lets get moving on driving down the v8 prices.
Time will tell if all of the Toyota turbocharged engines will match naturally aspirated engines reliability.
Nope. Less physical buttons, no V8. Looks like a Jeep (reliability problems) mated with a land rover (now made in India/china).
will overtrail equip with the hybrid engine?
Do you have a different opinion now that we know overall gas mileage is only one MPG better than the V8? Also, I’d like for you to address longevity of the new twin turbo V6 over the V8. The current engine has already been proven to go well over 300,000 miles.
It is so beautiful. I still love my 2023 Nori GX but I really, really want this one now. Any idea what factory it will be made in?
Japan
I have a Nori Green GX too. I love it as well, but eventually would like to try one of the Hybrid models.
Tahara plant. Same as previous GX.
@@BillHoge-li3yy agree. I have a 2022. Will wait til all the kinks are worked out on this third generation. Not convinced on the front end styling.
Let's hope that Lexus Canada provides Canadian customers the color options that will be available in the US!
If the Land Cruiser Prado comes to the U.S. and basically looks like this with these capabilities, where does that leave the 4 runner? David, I know you did a video about this in the past, but I want to hear your updated thoughts now that we’ve seen the GX!
The 4runner will be the basic prado gx will be a fancy prado and the prado will be a not as fancy prado as the gx but in-between the gx and 4r
4Runner with have 4 cylinder like the Tacoma
@@irichine That engine is going to kill the 4runner sales
@@irichine 4 cyl will be the end of the 4runner. And wth, this new 2024 gx 6cyl only gets 17mpg combined? Towing it will probably get 10mpg.
SMH on all the new vehicles and the electronics chip needs of them all.
I'm sure this model gx will be much above a reasonable price but yet it gets a cheesey '80s era exposed back windshield wiper & manual flip up back window on a luxury brand. SMH 😢
I just can't imagine how they are about to ruin the 4runner 😢
Just my rant 😂
The 2024 has E-KDSS vs KDSS on current models. Looks more complicated, but Toyota claims better articulation?? Does E-KDSS solve the problem with “Baja Bombing”, where the suspension is too tight for fast off-road?? Does E-KDSS solve the problem with off-camber lean at very slow speeds, where the suspension is too loose and the Truck leans excessively??
Can v6 turbo be as smooth as v8? Is naturally aspirated engine always smoother?
I think you’re wrong on the fuel efficiency. Many others are reporting only an increase in 1pmg, and we didn’t get much from the tundra either.
Im disappointed that the MPG only improved my 1 MPG
David, how much more will this cost over the 2023? That’s a very important factor when comparing vehicles.
If the 2024 GX comes with the factory Wrench like the Bronco Everglade, it will be perfect ! but still 9.9/10
You didn’t mention the huge price increase of the ‘24 model years. Nothing about the ‘24 is appealing to me coming from a ‘23 model year purchase.
Very educational
Why aren’t you on the invite list for these Toyota and Lexus events? You film so much content for them.
It needs the V8 which doesn’t use much more fuel.
Reason is Americans mostly buy American trucks so wouldn’t make sense financially
Toyota has been killing it lately with the redesign of the new Taco and now the GX. Cant wait to see the square angular new 4 runner next !
I can't believe that you even mentioned reliability of the new GX...
Lexus GX 550 predicted 17 MPG vs Mazda CX-90 3.3 V6 turbo 25?! What is that?
will there be a gx460’or is this it?
You talked me into a 23 Gx , I disagree that the new model looks better ! I love boxy but the new Gx looks aweful . Fuel mileage is a disappointment. Only 1 mpg better . No wires phone charging ? Better tech is only plus in my opinion and better towing
there is wireless charging. and wireless carplay , android auto
@@jasonhebert2577 didn’t see any wireless charging in any reviews yet
So this is what the landcruiser will look like? Or is it the forerunner? Hopefully one will be offroad focused, not so luxurious or overpriced.
This GX is off-road focused too! Great way to print that💵
The current GX has 17~18 MPG imo its not so bad consider you can put regular gas since its a really v8 engine. But the new GX you must put the premium gas... Nowadays even V6 mid size SUV are getting around 20MPG, so 2~3 mpg difference are not really big of a deal. If you really care about MPG, go get a Prius, that can trully saves you a lot of gas money.
People who love to make a house payment on a car are going to love this!
No Interior Ambiance lighting?
A land cruiser with some modifications even though you are identically selling the same car in the name of lexus makes you less likely to be a main competitor to mercedes-benz
How is it more efficient and dramatically improved in mileage? The TT 3.4 6 gets 17mpg combined. That’s just 1 mpg better.
What do you think of the towing capability?
It's rated at 8000 lbs
Love the retro design and dash-level infotainment screen, BUT, not feeling the billet style lower front grill and fake vents (especially at this price point)….still, WAY better looking than the TX.
