This Land Cruiser just reminds me just how beautiful and Classy the 4runner is...Long live the 4runner.
I think you know this will kill the current 4Runner styling.
@@timalan7406 this is an old retro 113.7 inch wheelbased "Jeep Wagoneer" with "Land Cruiser" heat stamped into the plastic. With included hood prop rod.
No. 4Runner will have more options. 4R cheaper. 4R with trail hunter and kick this LC behind Offroad which is sad. 80 series was boss
@@davidheaton6206 The 4Runner, I think, is going to be a completely different truck and it will make people consider it over this LC, however, the new 4runner will make to current and older 4runners feel and look like your driving an old station wagon.
@@firebir11 I've owned an 1984 Grand Wagoneer- total junk. I'll take the "heat stamped plastic" LC over it any day and so would you. Face it Jeep fan boy, you've been beat.
My former husband bougt a brand new, fully loaded 1994 Land Cruiser. It cost $60,000 back then, which was (and still is) an enormous amount of money and initially, I was not impresed. I grew to love it when 5 years later, I was able to keep it (fully paid off) in the divorce. I kept it for over 20 years and sold it when gas prices hit $5.00/gallon. The power steering had a leak and boy was the steering difficult to turn when the fluid was low! Other than that, it still purred like a kitten at 350,000 miles on the original engine and transmission. It was amazing off road and on snowy roads in the woods where no one had traveled. Betsy, as she was called, was a family favorite and sometimes I wish I had kept her. She took all of my four daughters and their friends everywhere. She carried all sorts of things. She also brought my youngest home from the hospital the day after she was born, and took her to college as a freshman. I would love to own the top of the line trail dust- colored Land Cruiser. I now have sentimental attachment to the brand.
This new LC has NOTHING to do with the LC you owned. NOTHING!
I had the same feeling about my dad 4Runner.

You did a great job with this overview. Breaking down the three different tiers answered so many questions I had.
In Australia, it will be called "Prado" as we are used to the Prado. It has always been the little sister to the big LandCruiser here. For the engine, we in Australia will get the Diesel 2.8 ltr turbo motor as diesel is popular here, especially in the outback.
In South Africa, the Prado is also one of the favourites in the Toyota stable.

Great points David, I currently have a GX but will absolutely be leaning toward the Land Cruiser. The 1958 is neat, but I like the synthetic leather and extra bells and whistles of the mid teer model. 6000lb towing with that level of torque will be enough for us, we tow with our 2017 GX which has an 8 cylinder but fewer hp and lower torque

Great content as always
I have a 2018 200 Series. Would never consider this new version as a replacement for my use although I'm sure it will sell in greater volume than the 200 ever did. Mine is 5 years old with 70K miles. Every time I step in and start it up if feels just like the first time. Sure, it gets terrible gas mileage, but whining about gas prices when buying a vehicle in this price range is ridiculous.
Mine is a daily driver, a long trip cruiser, a grandkid hauler, and tow vehicle for my Airstream travel trailer. Deal killers for me are no third row, no separate tailgate, and no 8100 tow rating but most of all the unique driving experience. I could care less about the old school tech.
After seeing this reveal we will be replacing a 2010 Highlander 4wd Limited 325K and a 2011 4Runner Trail with a GX460 while it's still available.
Your 200 series will last far beyond this new LC.

A really complete and undemonstrative summary. I’m getting tired of some of the drama queens who emote far too much. Thank you. It is true how much the appearance of a car matters, buying one is quite the emotional thing, I just don’t want a salesman/woman gushing at me when I wouldn’t trust any of them with a clockwork hamster.
David - since they are making this at the 4Runner plant, does this mean no more 4Runner? Do they have production capacity left for a 4Runner line?
David, thank you for your in-depth review of the Land Cruiser. In comparing both, I would choose the Lexus GX for the larger six cylinder engine.

I like it! The round headlights are great!
I love the new Landcruiser (LC) and plan to get one! The 4 cylinder hybrid LC doesn't bother me and I am glad Toyota chose to go hybrid on all the vehicles! Because we bought a brand new 2007 Camry Hybrid and we have put over 250k miles on it and it averages 34 mpg combined, 36 mpg highway. Our 2007 Camry Hybrid has been a workhorse/pickup for me. We did own a 1999 LC 200 series until 2016 and it was a great vehicle, but man was it thirsty! Our 1999 LC would only get on average of 13 mpg, so I am very grateful Toyota is bringing a hybrid Landcruiser to market! Thank you Toyota and more importantly, thank you David for this great news and your video too!

@@RIZFERD Really working that copy-paste function...
In the market I live in this might be called a Prado. Which is kind of a smaller Land Cruiser. I’ve heard people say a Prado is not a ‘real’ Land Cruiser, but it’s the one I would go for if I could. The ‘real’ one, the 300 is a bit overkill for most people, unless you’re a wealthy farmer or have special requirements.
Yup. I don't see this point talked about often enough. The Land Cruiser that US and Canada is getting is what the rest of the world calls the Land Cruiser Prado - a Land Cruiser Junior, if you will. As such, any comparisons to the 200 series is sorta... moot?
Everybody's jumping for joy that it's cheaper; it's *supposed to be*.
Not quite as luxurious as the 200 series? It's *not* supposed to be. Etc., etc.
Love the insights!
Great summary. Once again the best👍. Thank
You. What is the curb weight?
Thanks David, can not wait to see the off road performance agains the 4 runner trail version...
I am excited to have the 1958 model with that 2.4 hybrid system is what I was anticipated for a while now .I thank God that the US is getting a Prado like vehicle.
Thanks for the review! I’m really looking forward to this I saw a post, I believe on TheDrive, that said the expected fuel economy is 27mpg combined! At a mid $50k price I’m already sold.
Absolutely love your take on all things Toyota, David! I have a question regarding the color options for the new Land Cruiser. Where on the color spectrum does this new color Meteor Shower actually fall? I can't seem to find anyone reporting specifically on what the color looks like. Can you help? Thanks!
How can you not notice that this is a 4 Runner that Toyota instead of pricing it as such decided to take it up market and call it a Land Cruiser Light. That is why the pricing is cheaper, it's a more expensive, what was supposed to be the 4 Runner pricing. Look at the placement of the hoists, Fog lights, the suspension, the gate opening up, the tonneau cover, they are exactly in the same place as the current 4 Runner. The suspension it's exactly the same too. The tires are the same too. Heck it's only 1 inch longer because it comes from where the current 4 Runner used to come, the Land Cruiser Prado. Again pricing, is ridiculously expensive for cloth seats and less tech, this would have been the 4 Runner SR5. Why dont you mention that angle and go off script from the Toyota Press Release. I guess if you do you wont get invited.
And the sad thing is it has an inch less of ground clearance than 4Runner! Tommy from TFL’s video mentioned that it only has a little over 8 inches.
@@Ryan57Garr I have a 4 Runner and had decided to wait off the change, but we just got screwed. Now they will offer a bloated Tacoma with a Cab in the back. I guess that Toyota wants us to buy other brands.
Hi David, as usual always giving us the best insight. both body style are unique. Toyota has done it right and I love the fact that the price is affordable and now an average man can but the Land Cruiser. The question is where does the 4Runner fit and the price range?
Excited to see 👍👏Subscribed your channel David 👍 🙏
I prefer the GX550. I think it looks much cleaner! The GX powertrain seals the deal. Starting price of 55k isn’t enough to differentiate from GX, especially when this is essentially a 4 cylinder 4Runner.

It seemed like the Land Cruiser lost its way when it went to the V8 model.

hey david, the new land cruiser does have a tow hook in the rear. its located on the bottom right hand side actually so if u get ur hands on one, you may want to check. otherwise, can't wait to see these land cruisers on the road!
David, As demanded in this Comments section, Toyota has lowered Land Cruiser prices to differentiate it from Lexus and included some retro features like the contrasting white roof. I am thrilled to see a TNGA vehicle has come to market with generous headroom. 👏👏👏👏 I don't want to brag but I suggested months and months ago that Hino's Hamura plant could be used to help meet production targets for the new Prado. 😉
Doubt it was the comment section. Lol
yeah, especially the base model. without the sunroof, it looks like it may have similar headroom of the old fj cruiser, which has slightly more headroom than the 1st and 3rd gen tundras even without a standard-sized sunroof
It's cheaper because it's a Prado, we've had them for years in AUS, it's a cousin to the real Landcruiser 300 series.
@@inthefarqueue I thought the 70 Series was the 'Real Land Cruiser' and the 300 Series and 200 Series were just glorified station wagons. 😉😉😉😂
We are happy to know the Landcruiser is coming back to Canada. We have a 1977 FJ40 that we still use to plow snow every winter on our property! Not much left of the body but the engine is still running well. On the 1958 model a few things that would make it even better, in my opinion are that there should be no rugs in it, only a rubber liner like the FJ40 and FJCruiser, more than one 12Volt power point, and the option of having steel wheels. That would make it even more “Basic”!
You raise a few good points. I am sure Weather Tech will be happy to supply very effective floor mats and steel wheels ought to be readily available in this size and bolt pattern. Today's Land Cruiser 70 Series would be the closest thing to your old one.
Dave, thanks so much for another great informative post! You are the best when comes to Toyotas and Lexus, especially SUVs! Just a question, if you can, please feel free to address. How does the new Landcruiser compares with the 5th Gen 4Runner TRDPro?! Would love to hear or, read your comments. The reason or, one of the reasons, is that I own one and wonder if it’s worth while the upgrade other than the fuel efficiency. Thanks friend!
Well it looks like my 2015 4Runner Ltd with 160k miles is in no danger or being traded in.
Good review.
Glad to see the return of the LC
i really appreciate the news on the new prado. i've always wondered why the prado ever existed. it's starting to make more sense after the discontinuation of toyota models like the fj-cruiser & 4runner? hell the fortuner might be next and the rav4 will get revamped 🤔
I can't wait to see how it performs and handles compared to Defender, Range Rover, Broncos, Rubicons, and Previous Land Cruisers.
I always enjoy your take on new products and share many of your opinions.
I am somewhat puzzled by Toyota’s choice to have three vehicles based off the same platform ( 4Runner, Land Cruiser and GX models ) I can see two variations but, three?
I like the fairly low price point of the Land Cruiser and it’s utilitarian interior, multi piece front bumper for less cutting for mods, fairly expansive options in the two lower trim models.
Here is what I think they overlooked. New off road vehicles must be able to accommodate at least 35” tires or better yet 37” tires with stock suspension noting the possible need to have diff gear ratio changes with these larger tires. All models should come with real and full skid plate coverage ( radiator, engine, trans/transfer cases and fuel tanks ). The break over and departure angles and general ground clearance needs improvement. The exhaust and rear shock mounts can be an issue. The A pillar looks like it might be a big blind spot and the over the hood view looks like it might be an issue? Like the last generation of FJ had. A front diff lock would have been icing on the cake. I know Toyota’s traction control works very well but, a selectable Locker is my preference. I do wish the Land Cruiser came with the V6 engine!
My three big questions are will the hybrid onboard battery power camping equipment? And did Toyota design the roof to utilize a roof mounted cargo rack and or tent system?
Will the Land Cruiser hurt 4 runner sales?
I too, think the GX might be the best option?
As always stay safe and healthy!
Ron

Round headlights are so stylish! Third row seating will be needed here in Philippines!
Here in Australia, the Prado has the been most popular SUV by a country mile for years. I reckon the new model will keep the Prado badge because we also have the 300 LC.
Diesels have been our choice of engine, so it is possible that the hybrid will use the current 2.8 litre in both Prado and Hilux. With emission laws crushing diesels, I hope they go with a petrol donk.
You lads in North America are spoilt for choice with Tacoma, 4Runner, LX, Tundra and Sequoia, and now 250 LC. I'm jealous!
Yeah but y’all get the 70’s series and that’s what I(we) really want. 4 door flat bed 70 series V8 turbodiesel is perfection.
@@LAZYS0D yep, they are a beast. The latest news is the 70s will keep the V8 for now but the 1GD 2.8 diesel will also be available. So the 250LC is a real 'Cruiser but here it has a fake hybrid. Like I said before, you lads are spoilt for choice.

I don't think so, the 4runner is still going to be more capable offroad and still a little cheaper. There is enough overlap that I don't think it makes sense for Toyota to keep both though. Toyota is merging the Tacoma with the Hilux, it makes sense for them to merge the Prado(LC) with the 4runner.

Mr. David, great video. I have the 2022 GMC Sierra AT4X, so I'm not quite interested in the base or rugged versions of the upcoming Land Cruiser. However, if they have used LX 600's by next year, that are more affordable, I also prefer the luxury and features of the Lexus 600 over the Land Cruiser. It's between that and the Denali XL ultimate.

I recall some time back you predicted all of this and so far all true!
Your last prediction that hasn’t been announced yet is a totally redesign of the 4Runner to compete with the bronco. If you are correct on that then others are missing out on your channel!
Ha ha thank you! I got a lot of pushbacks from others when I made predictions, but so far so good in terms of accuracy.
Multi-terrain select and crawl control will be accessible in both 4H and 4L, but I haven’t heard any mention of A-Trac and I don’t see a button for it in the interior photos. Is it not offered at all or has it been incorporated into the other 2 (or am I just missing it)?

What does this imply for the new 4Runner? The new LC is about 3 inches longer in both wheelbase and overall length than my Gen 5, curious to see how they're differentiated.
