The funniest part about both the live action and this video is how, without context, people somehow think Coby is like Sasuke and Luffy's rival, or that Garp is evil.
I'm pretty sure Coby will be the one arresting Luffy in the end. From the start Oda established parallels between Luffy and Roger. @@matejmatkovic7712 It's very likely that Roger let himself be captured because he was dying, yes. It's been established that gear 2 hurts Luffy's health significantly, so I think Oda is already setting up for Luffy getting terminally ill and letting himself be captured by Koby.

One of the things I like in this Adaptation is that they kept the original reason of Zef eating his own leg than that watered down version of getting it cutoff during the ship sink

Oda has said that there were a few things he wanted to change from the beginning of the series. One of which was, apparently, Luffy actually working on Shanks' ship.
You actually can't enter by going simply to the east or west, you need to head south-west from the east blue, while also avoiding getting stranded in the calm belt or other spots.

That'd be great, actually. Biggest issue is that Black Lagoon is a fairly episodic show like Bebop is, and destroying the episodic structure in favor of a bingeable plot was what killed Netflix Bebop.
Probably my biggest gripe about the show was the accents lol. I really wanted Mirhawk to have a Spanish accent, but I guess I'm projecting too much Zorro/Pussinboots into him while reading the manga. And yet the Japanese VA for him still gives me good goosebumps to this day heh
Never heard of the show until I saw the teaser trailer during Netflix TUDUM. It looked really goofy and seemed like something interesting to watch. I think it’s a great introduction for people who aren’t familiar with the manga.
I think the fact that the West already had a pretty goofy pirate franchise with a particularly silly main character (Pirates of the Caribbean) helped audiences be immediately comfortable with what One Piece had to offer.
@@keyblademasterclark okay so I’ve seen some comments about “I can’t wait to see one piece” but I honestly had no idea what they were talking about. I would also add that this kind of wholesome story about adventure, friendship and following your dreams has really been lacking, especially done well.

They made a live action anime adaptation that everyone liked because of how earnest it was. Now if they somehow manage to not screw up Yu Yu Hakusho, My Hero Academia, and Gundam, they might actually be able to do this with some confidence.
YuYu Hakusho should work if they go the One Piece route. Gundam...hopefully they try to write a sort of new story or adapt 0086. That would be better for a test run, solid story, characters that are easy to care about and get the mecha fights right.
it really feels like they aimed to capture the intent and emotions of key moments rather than just telling the story. havent watched or read one price in a very long time but when they did the key moments like nami asking luffy for help or sanji and zeff's back story, i still got flashbacks of the manga and anime versions
This live action is amazing because Oda is too rich to risk damaging his franchise for money. He did everything to make sure this live action is a masterpiece of this genre.
The secret to live action anime is the same secret used for most anime adaptations of manga. Don't change anything. We already like the story, the characters, and the tone. JUST USE GOOD ACTORS, GOOD SPECIAL EFFECTS, AND TELL THE STORY.
It also worked because the target is younger and the tone is way less serious. These are pirates who aren't pirates at all, in a universe where people can do basically everything, so there's a lot more space to maneuver.
It is funny to hear it has a less serious tone, while at the same time, a kid(Nami) saw her mother gunned down in front of her, and was chained to a desk, forced to make maps. And in the anime(and I think the manga), she was so overworked, her pen was stained with blood.
I definitely bet against it. The final trailer was genius and I think did most of the trick of convincing the audience to watch it. Personally, I feel it's mostly because of the music they put together for that trailer. The actual music in the _series_ basically never reached that level of excellence, not that I was surprised.
Right? If Netflix Cowboy Bebop and Death Note couldn't work, what hope was there for One Piece?! 😱 It could've been even worse than Dragon Ball Evolution and the Last Airbender because OP is even more nuts than DB & ATLA! And then...😲

It keeps the camera dynamic while actually letting us see the action, but it's still chaotic enough to cover up some less than perfect choreography.
The funniest part about both the live action and this video is how, without context, people somehow think Coby is like Sasuke and Luffy's rival, or that Garp is evil.
He even implied Roger was evil
Clearly, the channel didn't do their research.
I'm pretty sure Coby will be the one arresting Luffy in the end. From the start Oda established parallels between Luffy and Roger. Coby being trained by the man who captured Roger isn't a coincidence I think. So in a way, he's the closest thing to a rival for Luffy (unless of course I missed something, I'm a little behind on the manga, only starting Wano now - please don't spoil haha)
@@misterwhyte calling garp the man who captured roger is a bit of a stretch tho.

i love how the show is so accurate that pretty much everything thats said also applies to the anime/manga
3:38 - it feels ironic that Ussop’s dad was on Shanks’ crew and raised Luffy like a son with them.
Also, Luffy's dad spends more time with his supposed to be dead "brother" than Luffy.
@@margarethmichelina5146Luffy also spends more time with his mom (croc) than his dad!
@@kushalramakanth7922 Suuure, keep saying that to yourself.
Dadan raised luffy, though.
It’s funny to call Luffy a sailer when there’s a character in the show that actually asks if he’s a sailor and he corrects her! 😆
I just love that you compared Coby to vegeta and sasuke... that is definitely a first
For real. In one piece, to get an equivalent of those two you'd have to combine Coby, Zoro and Kidd.
@@Naija_NinjaI think Law does emo, edgy Vegeta/Sasuke quite fine on his own
@@_Amit_SunilLaw isn't a terrible person though.
And Sasuke most definitely is.
2:58 Yup, I have been thinking that for almost 25 years lol
for newcomers who just read one piece after the live action ,,,
"I'll be waiting for you at the Land of Wano ! Come at any cost !"
Before anything cool happens? Nami asking Luffy for help has remained my favorite part of the series even after 23 years.
And a fatherfigure just ate his own leg, so the kid hasn't to suffer. 😅
Such a solid adaptation - would have bet anything that it would suck just given how stylized the source material is. Very very pleasantly surprised.
It does suck. You just how low standards.
I definitely bet against it. The final trailer was genius and I think did most of the trick of convincing the audience to watch it. Personally, I feel it's mostly because of the music they put together for that trailer. The actual music in the _series_ basically never reached that level of excellence, not that I was surprised.
Style is good if stays intact the same way they did it with OPLA, because that is the essence.
Right? If Netflix Cowboy Bebop and Death Note couldn't work, what hope was there for One Piece?! 😱
It could've been even worse than Dragon Ball Evolution and the Last Airbender because OP is even more nuts than DB & ATLA!
And then...😲
@@Jangobadass In fairness, those two examples failed because the showrunners weren't focused on making a faithful, quality show. They had personal priorities. Forcing their viewpoints on the unassuming viewer. "Quality/faithfulness" took a back seat, if it was even a priority at all. We've now seen the difference, and we can collectively lament what might have been.
Can't wait for Jamie Lee Curtis to play Dr. Kuhera in Season 2. Turns out she already knows fans want her to play the doctor, and she's all for it!
I'm just worried about Chopper
@@hayu187they should make Chopper a straight up Jim Henson puppet. That'd be hilarious
@@hayu187sounds like they’re going to lean into the human side of chopper’s devil fruit and save the practical/special effects for his transformations, which honestly is probably the only way they could afford to do chopper
@@creekandseminoleBruh 🤣
Couldn't they just do the same like with Rocket from Guardians of the Galaxy?
"They one pieced her guadian right in front of her" was the best line in this trailer.
It's taken 100s of episodes to realize the theme of liberation that is the manga. Perfect description of those things he liberated his crew from with positivity.
IDK, considering the only reason he was out on the ocean at age 17 is because he was running from his Grandpa wanting to turn him into a Marine, I'd say it's been baked in from day 1.
@@7thlittleleopard7 definitely baked in, but I was a dumb kid when that went down. 🤣
Also a theme of Luffy bringing happiness to wherever he goes.
