Sarah I agree with your review totally having used Brutfuner for a couple of months. But I found another bonus the square pencils were great for me as I have Parkinson’s and these pencils are so comfortable to hold so stable plus they don’t roll away. Thank you
Laney, have you ever tried using pencil grips (those squishy foam things that fit over pencils to make them softer and easier to use)? I buy packs of 100 from amazon and the grips do seem to make the pencils better to hold onto and I seem to have a little more hand control and also to be able to color longer.

@@pogz1 I think the human mind is wired so we can’t see our own achievements a lot of the time. We look at ourselves and we feel our art isn’t good enough, or our athleticism isn’t good enough, or we’re not pretty/handsome enough, but people looking at us think “wow, their art is amazing” or “look how nice that person looks”. We’re always going to want to strive to do better, that’s just human nature, but we humans also have a tendency to never see the positives in ourselves, only the negatives. I’m so glad you said you’ll continue to push to be better at your art rather than giving up! But rather than looking at your art and saying “boy, that’s awful”, try looking to find at least one thing you did well-for example “hey, that flower I drew is symmetrical and the colors I used on it really go well together”. And remember, someone out there who sees your art is thinking to themselves “wow, I wish I could do this as well as Pogito does”.🙂
As one who owns all of the premium artist grade colored pencils, there is one point I would like to add to the discussion on the merits of various brands. I believe that one important aspect of Polychromos colored pencils is that I have found their 120 color range to be better balanced and more complete a set of hues than any of the others. That said, I still think it is desirable to own and work with 2 or 3 sets as most quality sets have some special standout colors.
@@leesanchez8432 Excuse me for expressing my opinion! I’ve been using coloured pencils for many years and no, I don’t need to learn to mix white with everything. That completely changes the look. These are my favourite brand overall, but they lack paler tones and it is a shame. Other brands, especially Derwent, manage to provide a good variety of strength of hue. And as a result are in regular use to fill in the Polychromos holes.
Hello there Lee, I would have to say that I absolutely disagree with you and agree with the last part of the comment. Iam a full time professional artist and Bookbinder and I literally own every full professional artist grade set of colored pencils, pastel pencils and watercolor pencils that are available. The polychromos are definitely a good set, but their color pallet is definitely not a well rounded color selection. It actually fits very niche subjects very well, with colors not found in other sets. It definitely has many drawbacks in its colors with lighter tones and mixing them with white definitely isn't gonna work like it's paint. When you mix with white in colored pencils, it completely alters the true appearances of the color, hue and tint to the color is extremely hard to get what you need by mixing in white. You get a white washed out looking color, and depending on what color it's mixed with... and solid waxy looking pastel color. Also they are an extremely extremely hard pencil and layer great, but blending them is a huge pain in the ass. You should never have to fight with your supplies to get the outcome right. I typically only use a handful of colors out of the polychromos 120 set with all my other brands. Now I definitely agree with you on using a bunch of sets together is the best option for an artist, because you can make up weaknesses in each set with other sets. If iam going to do alot of layering and or need very fine details, I always reach for my Caran D'ache Pablo 120 set over the polychromos. The Pablo 120 set has a better balance of colors and I think they layer and blend alot smoother than polychromos, and they can hold a point for along time as well. The sets I use the most are Holbein 150, Derwent lightfast 100, Luminance 100, Derwent Drawing pencil 24 set, Pablo 120 set, Caran D'ache Museum Aquarelle 76 set ( wet and dry ), Albrecht Durer 120 set ( wet and dry ), supracolor soft 120 set ( wet and dry ) and a handful of polychromos, a handful of Derwent procolour, a handful of Derwent coloursoft a few Derwent artist colored pencils and believe it or not, sometimes I will use my complete set of Winsor and Newton pigment markers to do underpainting for my colored pencil pieces since they are pigment based and lightfast. Now with all this being said, I only use lightfast colors and only use the non lightfast colors in sketchbooks. I don't use any of these budget Chinese made brands because they aren't lightfast at all, and use a ton of dyes and fillers. I already have enough sets in my studio to make up a massive non lightfast pallet. Have a good one
You do realize that adding white to create a lighter tone is a very amateur mistake- it makes the color opaque. That was one of the most basic things I learned in art class in high school- you don’t mix your colors with white to create a lighter or softer color.
such a bummer. my art sucks so bad.😣, i wish someone would share their art knowledge and critique my art video. feels like my art will never improve even how hard i try.

I only buy most of these pencils to save you the trouble! I don’t recommend collecting all the pencils I own! Most of them are only for review purposes, and I end up giving them away or lending to friends and family. My actual personal collection is quite small and I revert back to the same few brands I love.

Hello :) I would suggest ASTRA PASTELOWE 50 coloured pencils (you read it: 'pasteloVe" in Polish) - they are made in Poland, so probably you could have a bit of difficulty to order them BUT it is possible after all and I do guarantee they are worth buying. In fact, they are cheep as they are intended for children, but the appearances can be deceptive, as we know... ;-) And I believe you will enjoy them! I think they are FABULOUS (some people compare them to Holbeins), though they may have some week points too and I'm sure you will find them! :) Oh, and it seems to me they have been getting more and more "fashionable" worldwide recently. I know that people buy them even from Australia! :D Greetings from Warszawa, Poland. :)
@@slavsphinx I’ve actually been on the hunt for the Pastelowe in the past few days! Unfortunately Amazon Germany won’t ship to Australia, so I’m going to see if I can find some on eBay. I’ve heard good things about them too so I’m curious!
I’d say Nyoni/Markart but I’m likely already buying them at the sale this coming Monday 😅. Pastel sets like the Pastelowe or Indra Macaron would be great!
Since a few month Brutfuner came out with a 520 pencilsset. I received them yesterday directy from China. I think they are great for colouringbooks and beginners, just like you said. They work oke, but they can and will never replace my top quality pencils. Thank you for your nice tutorials.
I love the Brutfuner but I regret getting the square ones. My pencil sharpener eats them up. SO they are not economical in the long run. I bought them because I loved the presentation of color and there are some really nice ones. And, If you try to sharpen them with anything but an electric sharpener, it becomes work instead of fun. Also, the color names are in Chinese if you are o.k. with that, fine. That said, they have a nice lay down and I have many brands including Prismacolor, Holbein, Castle, Starjoy, Markart etc. Rather than recommending Brutfuner, I recommend Starjoy and even Markart over Brutfuner. However, if you must have Brutfuner, get the round ones. I would like for you, Sarah, to review Cool Bank. I don't want to overshadow your review with mine, so I will say nothing further about them until I see your review.
Interesting thoughts about sharpening- I found they were ok in the larger hole of most sharpeners. They felt strange when first sharpening, but then felt like a normal pencil after working through that initial shape from the original manufactured sharpen. I’ve heard good things about Star Joys and Markart (AKA Nyoni) so I’ve got them both on my list for a potential future review! I haven’t heard of Cool bank so I’ll check them out, thanks!
Thank you on the thorough review as well as including a sharpening test and finding out if these really were oil based pencils. So many reviews were lacking much detail or actually having used the pencils.
I've got the 180 set, these are my first coloured pencils that are not kids ones and I'm very happy with them, considering I bought them for less than 1 PLN for one pencil, haha. I do plan to get Polychromos tho, but the quality of Brutfuner I think is good enough to use them to save the expensive pencils for more important parts of drawing.
I bought my Brutfuner pencils a few months ago, I love them. I am not professional, but for me, these are very good. Creamy enough and a lot of colors (160 )😊 good to know the other brands you said are the same as these ones. Thank you for the video it helped s lot.
I’ve noticed that’s something we colorists are going to have to watch out for, all these different brand names but the same pencil. It’s almost seems like they’re trying to get one over on people. I’ve known too many people who have spent lots of money on different sets only to find out many are the same pencils (one friend even ordered what she thought was three different sets and they all ended up with the gang hue(spelling?)brand name on them.
the truth is you don’t necessarily need professional quality brands to create professional quality artwork. I just pitted my polychromos against prismacolor scholar pencils, the later of which cost me 30$ for 60vs 120$ for the pack of 60 Polychromos and I find the prismacolor more vibrant, pigmented and easy to blend, also lightfastness (the resistance to fading) is a weird and subjective thing, lightfast ratings don’t actually ensure your color’s to last.
Great job. Side note: taking in a lot of evidence from manufacturers comments, reviews, and comparing ads for different pencils, it really appears that when dealing with Chinese-marketed pencils, "oily" does not mean oil v. wax. Instead, it means not a watercolor pencil.
I have the round Brutfuners you've shown on this video. I've noticed they fade away so quickly and are soluble in water, just like the faulty Artezas (which I have). They're super creamy but have a very bad resistance to light.
I have a set of the Kalour pencils with 12 metallics. My set has the same names and numbers as you showed . The metallic color you are missing is Metallic Grass Green, number 023.
Hi there! I posted this on another channel as well, but wanted to add it here, since your review also helped me make up my mind. 😊 I chose the square Brutfuners: “I know it’s an older video, but just wanted to say, I really love these pencils! I’m a beginner with colored pencils. Between your reviews and several others, I decided to try them. They were $30 on Amazon with a 25% coupon, and came quickly. I love the easy lay down of pigment. They are perfect for learning blending, and other practice and adult coloring. I tend to fidget with my pens and pencils, and the square shape had actually become my favorite fidget toy. 😆 They do actually work in my T’gaal hand sharpener, with some adjustments. It will seriously leave bite marks and chipped paint, and you may have to fiddle with it to get the pencils to turn initially. But it is doable if you are careful. I will eventually get an electric sharpener, but this is practice for me right now. The bite marks simply make the set ‘not precious’ so I can play with them without twitching. Thank you for the fun recommendation! I’m thoroughly enjoying these!”
I bought mine ages ago - before the hype started (in fact it was probably me that started the hype as I was so impressed with them and went on about it at every opportunity!). Mine have round barrels but are all one colour, unlike the Castle Arts. They also lay down very differently from my Castle Arts. I think my set is 160 (possibly 180 - can't remember as I've put them in a big case). They are really lovely and smooth, and layer beautifully. I have discovered that you need to use lots of light layers. I suspect mine are more like the square ones which may actually be the same and just square as a gimmick... Who knows. But I love them.
I have the same set you do. My main problem with them is so many of the pencils are almost the same color, which is frustrating. I rarely use them. Great for a beginner who wants alot of pencils.
For the price the Square Brutfuner are a wonderful pencil. They perform beautifully when light layers are used and are perfect for a hobby artist. They are so beautiful to look at I had to get a second set to keep in their pristine condition. Thank you for the great review.
I am so glad that you made this video and that I watched it. I have been wanting a set for a while and after watching this I will be purchasing the square set. I love your channel!💙🩵💙
Hi, I purchased the Square pencils, I was amazed at how wonderfully they worked. I have the Polychromos, I love them, I started out with Prismacolor pencils , used them for a couple years and I can't stand them. They are way to soft and I had to keep sharpening them and they always broke. So, I love the oil pencils the wax pencils could be used for scratches on your car
Love this review. I recently got some single Prismacolor pens and loved them, but whenever I look it up on my local shopping site, Brutfuner always comes up. Will give it a try since it's so much cheaper, and I am technically new to using this medium.
Thank you for the update, Sarah. I do have different brands of pencils from artist grade to student grade. I’ve got the round colored Brutfuner and I’m enjoying them much. Will be looking forward on your color swatch.
Thank you so much for this video. It really explained so much and answered so many of my questions. I knew absolutely nothing about coloured pencils before watching this and have never owned a coloured pencil that wasn't absolute garbage in my entire life. But wanted to give the coloured pencils (real ones) a try. I love the way you explain things and your drawing are awesome. I am immediately subscribing to your channel :-)
I love your comparative study and your accurate opinion as professional coloriste about the manufacturing markets. Personally, may be it more oily or less quality for their translucency on black papers? I would love to have your opinion more on this matter! Meanwhile, your study versus the customers opinions on Amazon about this brand are very precious to know! By the way, I am pretty satisfied with my Dahle sharpener, after buying two Ex-Acto sharpeners which it is impossible to remove the points of pencils when they are caught between the blades of this hight quality sharpeners brands! Thanks for sharing your experience with them as well as your personal comments! Have a nice weekend and take good care of yourself!
I think Brutfuner is a "chinification" of the word "buntstifte", which can be found on many of the Faber-Castell boxes, and which literally means "colored pencils" in German.
I’m waiting for this to get to me as I recently just back into adult coloring books and don’t want to use my expensive pencils. Can’t wait ti try them out.
I went on my local Amazon (India) and checked to see Brutfuner and from the picture now they are round barrel and the color is the whole length not just the ends. Making it look closer to a dupe for some higher end brand. I'd love to read about white labelling and all the info she found. I wonder if there is a post about it on her blog?
That was brave of you to investigate the Brutfuner's and I love the six-in-one review. Really saves time, and you won't have to buy the other five in a future video.
Love your thorough reviews and tests on colored pencils. Always look forward to seeing your videos. Have you ever reviewed the subscription pencils by Felissimo? 😊
I’ve been looking into the Felissimo 500 and would love to try them out if I can get some without subscribing or buying the full set! I want to see if they are worth all that effort and cost. It’s a very interesting system!
Hi, I must admit to mostly using Caran D'ache Luminance pencils for most of my pencil art, Derwent aqua pencils, or the Inktense pencils. (Derwent are close to my heart, (I use water based ones for the face ups and blushing on my BJDs) I've just bought a set of 40 Brutfuner pencils for doing the colouring books I've recently been given. I didn't want to waste my good pencils, and had heard a lot of good things about these budget pencils. I always believe the proof is in the pudding, and I'm looking forward to trying them out. I'm not expecting them to be the level of my work pencils, with your review I know more if what to expect from them. Thankyou. New subscriber :-)
Where can i find the swatching cards for the brutfuner pencils? Also thanks for the review! I just bought these and cant wait to use them! Im just a beginner! 🙈
Watching this on 2022. I've just bought 180 bruttfuner oil based and yes, the pencil and the core has different tone while swatching, and some color have similar color. But, it's super soft, and easy to use, especialy for beginer
I have a 168 brutfuner pencil set, and I learned a lot of art techniques like blending two tones from these. I recently found 48 of these cheap pencils for about 8 US dollars which comes down to 17 US cents per pencil!!!!
actually, when you said ad break an ad just popped up it was actually kinda funny anyway the video was really good like always and I would also suggest the pastelowe pencils and all the reviews are so good so looking forward to your next video
Wow what a thorough review, amazing job! 👏 It’s funny, I was actually searching Amazon reviews last night because I felt like my new Deli pencils were very waxy looking for an oil-based pencil. They leave quite a shine on the page when burnished. The Brutfuner squares had a strong initial smell for me while my Castle Arts (in a tin) didn’t smell much at all! I haven’t tried the Bruts yet as I’m on the fence about keeping or returning them after watching some great reviews on Nyoni/Markart...
Thank you for sharing this, I knew I had seen Brutfuner in my studio somewhere, sure enough I had a full set of pencils under the South Sun label, and every one of them say Brutfuner on the barrels! Thanks for saving me from getting another set to review! Are the square ones that different that they are worth getting and comparing?
Well, at least I chose good cheap pencils to start? I got myself the Shuttle Art set to make sure I'd enjoy it and stick with it. Now I have a birthday next month and I've put my lovely Prismacolor set on the list, but at least I've set myself up for a fair trial and some reasonable artwork in the meantime! Seriously, thank you for this. I went budget to test my ability and whether I'd like it, but I was feeling a bit like I'd hamstrung myself after watching a few more videos. Now I feel like yeah, I may need a few more layers and they might not blend quite as smoothly, but I'm not completely wasting my time and they're definitely okay for my 8 year old (who will inherit them when I upgrade to prismacolor). Thank you! It's very validating to see this!
Sarah, I use pencils for mixed media, specifically on top of gouache, could you please do a video about coloured pencils that are good for mixed media?
Hello, I loved this video of yours, could you also talk about the kalour pencils too, because I bought a set of 300 kalour pencils [but they still haven't arrived] after seeing some positive opinions about this pencil but seeing your video now about the two types of pencils -round and square and you said that squares are better and many pencils just change the name but they are the same pencil, I am in doubt if these pencils I bought are the round or square type?
I'm currently loving Marco Renoir as my FC polychromos alternative but I'm still in search for an alternative for my Prismacolors so I may give this a try.
I know I said it to someone, but I think Brutfuner is an umbrella company that markets other pencils under their name. I guess that is what you just explained. But, I agree with you, those square pencils work like champs. I don’t think Prismacolor or Polychromos when I use them. They remind me more of Holbein. Their softness is sort of in the middle between Prismacolors and Polychromos. I highly recommend them. Now for that set of 520 pencils. I wonder if they are quality pencils like the square ones?
So basically to get some cheaper pencils to work as well as they can it depends on what paper you use them on too. Might try all the different paper I have on my Castle Arts to see which I think is best for them. Thanks for another informative video and for all that research, the more you know right.
I use Canson Bristol Recycled paper (textured side) for my Castle Arts and I like it. That side is supposedly a bristol vellum. haven’t tried a straight Bristol Vellum paper yet (I got the recycled on clearance so I’m working my way through that first).
Great video. The square set is in my wish list now. For now I have Koh I Noor polycolor, and have been buying singles of open stock polychromos. Do you think these are better than the Koh I Noor? Or should I just keep saving for the polychromos? Thanks for the deep dive comparison. I need to color something today.
It’s been a while since I used the Koh I Noor but I don’t remember being as impressed by them as I was by these. These are a good cheap set if you want something to get you started until you can afford the Polychromos- but if the polycolor are working for you, then I’d save up for the Polychromos!
@@SarahRenaeClark thank you. I want to try prismacolor as well. They are the same price and sometimes more that the polychormos here in Germany. I do like the Koh I Noor, but I would like to try these out or the Arteza as well. Keep up the great videos. Excited to see your sharpener comparison.
@@demi3115 I’ve got those, and would say the square Brutfuner feel nicer to use and easier to blend, and I would choose the square Brutfuner between the two. Although the student Faber-Castell are better produced and more consistent from one set to another, and you won’t get misprints or missing colors like you might in a budget set. Budget sets are good at replicating nice features, and producing pencils that are nice to use, but the quality control and customer service of reputable brands will always be better.
It seems the Brutfuner round are the same as the others you mentioned. But since the Brutfuner squares aren't the same as the round, and the squares are the ones you would recommend, are they the same as any others?
I recently brought the 180 pack Brutfuner Oil Pencils. Sarah, after watching this video again I realised that you are missing the ‘METALLIC GRASS GREEN 023. In my set there is 2 ‘Metallic Ochre’ which one of them is your ‘Metallic Pink’. I know this because it has the number 030. Also at the end of my pack when it reaches to pencil ‘172’ it jumps to ‘176, 178, 181, 182, 183, 184, 185 and 186’. 🤔
This idea of private labeling is taken even a step further for really big retailers. For example Walmart and Costco. Name brand manufacturers like Samsung or Carter's (kids clothes) will have separate production runs specifically for those retailers with different model numbers or in some cases different levels of quality
If you want to blend these pencils, lay down at least 3 layers of the colours in a small section THEN use a small brush dipped in odourless mineral spirits. I use Gamsol. Works very well. You would think you had painted it the blends of different colours together give you a new section of beautifully an smoother splash of colour
can it also work with crayola colored pencils am only just a beginner in art and don't want to waste to much money on art supplies I won't use as often which is a habit I've been doing lately am still a beginner due to being discouraged when I try to draw or I get to distracted when I try to do it but am getting a little bit better at not being like this at all anymore and crayola is within my budget for me and having troubles trying to blend them
There are a subscription set of colour pencils from Japan that are 500 in the full set. Can both sets be blended together? Or do they just not work that way I’m curious
The flimsy container remind me of Prismacolors lol. I feel like I should be getting a set of those pencils and an online store sells them in cheap prices as an alternative for my old Prismas.
Just bought some Kalour pencils (180 set) and Brutfuner watercolours (120 set) for just doing average stuff/playing around with, and have my good pencils (Faber Castell, Derwent and Lyra pencils) for doing more important work. That'll help save my good pencils instead of going through them too quickly. Since they don't have any actual pastel pencils, I can't compare them with my Conte's or Derwent's, but maybe if we ask nicely, they might have a go at making some😊
💖 Thank-You, Thank-You Sarah, just the type of information on a review I was looking for 😊 The research on the different other brands a lot of reviews hinted at this but no real answer. I'm not lazy just wouldn't know where to start on that type of research & your explanation was Totally understandable for a beginner like myself.🎨💖💖😊
I don't have the square version but the Brutfuner versions I've got (Laconile 160 /160 Zenacolor - which come via Guang Hai from memory) are a really good cheap alternative if somewhat wishy washy in pigment. I always sharpen new pencils as they often have a really thin coating on them to protect them when they leave the factory. As a PS, I totally agree that they're not anywhere close to feeling like the oil-based Polychromos. Paper makes a huge difference though as you've discovered!
The guang hui pencils are slightly different to these (I think!) so they might not be as good, even if they look similar. There are SO many cheap pencil brands coming out of China now that it’s getting hard to keep track!
Great video. So, the square Brutfuners are in the 180 set? I guess I didn't catch that part. I was thinking about getting the Kalour 180 set which I heard are the same. So, hopefully they are like the Brutfuner square ones.
Crayola gets their color pencils from Faber-Castell factories in Brazil. They are made cheaper than the premium Castell brands and seem to be exclusive to Crayola.
Hi Sarah I just watched your video reviewing Brutfurner oily colored pencils, round and square. Mine have different numbers to the ones you reviewed. I got the 160 set, a lot of pencils!
Does anyone know the difference between the 180 Bruts Oil pencils with the black barrels and the 180 Bruts Oil pencils where the barrels match the color of each pencil? Do they color the same? Is one better than the other?
i have the shuttle arts 172s. my sis gave me a smaller set of brutfuner and the color number didn´t mach. After swatching there are some matches but not all and not in the color numbers. oh by the way, I use the metallics as extra gray tones, not for the effect.

But rather than looking at your art and saying “boy, that’s awful”, try looking to find at least one thing you did well-for example “hey, that flower I drew is symmetrical and the colors I used on it really go well together”. And remember, someone out there who sees your art is thinking to themselves “wow, I wish I could do this as well as Pogito does”.🙂
"180 is a lot of pencils, I don't think anyone really needs this many".... and here I ordered the 520 set hahaha
🤣I want them them, too 🤣
@@debramoss2267 I got them and love them!
OMG where do you order a 520 colour set? Are any doubles???
Nice
And its not that expensive for that much
I tend to use the cheaper brands for back grounds or bigger area and use my high end pencils for details or portrait coloring
That’s a great idea. Can’t believe I hadn’t thought of that!!
genius.
Polychromos are lovely, but they are sorely lacking in lighter tones. There are very few pale colours. And we need those alongside the vibrant hues.
For lighter tones, you need to learn to mix bold hues with white and various light colors which are available.
I did a ring of all my pencil swatches, and punched a hole in the colour part so I could lay it right over something for matching colours.
Fantastic idea, thanks for sharing

Sarah's collection of colored pencils is a dream!!! Really putting effort & information to the reviews. You saved me again from my impulsive buying tendency 😂
I only buy most of these pencils to save you the trouble! I don’t recommend collecting all the pencils I own! Most of them are only for review purposes, and I end up giving them away or lending to friends and family. My actual personal collection is quite small and I revert back to the same few brands I love.
Another great video, Sarah! Your videos are always so professionally done from your review down to your filming and editing! That snap of the finger and all the swatches cut into strips was awesome! I love watching all the different reviews and comparisons of these pencils on UA-cam.

Maybe the StarJoy Deli 72 pencils? The one in the tin with the hut as the others under the same name have been said to be inferior in comparison.
@@slavsphinx I’ve actually been on the hunt for the Pastelowe in the past few days! Unfortunately Amazon Germany won’t ship to Australia, so I’m going to see if I can find some on eBay. I’ve heard good things about them too so I’m curious!
@@PrincessLunaSama I’ve heard good things about those too!
I use a Dahle 133 for all my pencils…no more broken lead. I highly recommend
@@carolynpicken6949 Same. Best sharpener ever.
I have the square bruts and honestly, I reach for them more than my prismas. Loved this review!tfs
OMG I LITERALLY JUST ORDER THE 120 COLOUR YESTERDAY, AND YOU UPLOAD THE REVIEW, AAAAA THANK YOU!!
YOUR COLOURING IS ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS, LOVE WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS
I have the round Brutfuners you've shown on this video. I've noticed they fade away so quickly and are soluble in water, just like the faulty Artezas (which I have). They're super creamy but have a very bad resistance to light.
Sarah I am just so impressed with the thoroughness of your work and quality of the videos! Bravo 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
😊 I chose the square Brutfuners:
“I know it’s an older video, but just wanted to say, I really love these pencils!
4:35 girlll, that's really seamless. Amazing!
For the price the Square Brutfuner are a wonderful pencil. They perform beautifully when light layers are used and are perfect for a hobby artist. They are so beautiful to look at I had to get a second set to keep in their pristine condition. Thank you for the great review.
Thanks for this video. I have both. The 180 and 120 sets & have. The 520 set ordered from Aliexpress. Obviously I like these pencils.

I just got the square Brutfuner 120 set, and I love them! Thank you so much for sharing this video!🥰
In my researching pencils come across your videos and decide to buy this look forward to getting using them and learning some new skills
Thank you for the update, Sarah. I do have different brands of pencils from artist grade to student grade. I’ve got the round colored Brutfuner and I’m enjoying them much. Will be looking forward on your color swatch.
Love your channel! Binge watching as I knit and color.

That’s a different Brutfuner set completely
That was brave of you to investigate the Brutfuner's and I love the six-in-one review. Really saves time, and you won't have to buy the other five in a future video.
Thank you this is awwsome for beginner like me.When get the expensive ones when I'm ready.❤
What an awesome thorough review, Sarah. Thank you so much.

(Derwent are close to my heart, (I use water based ones for the face ups and blushing on my BJDs)
I've just bought a set of 40 Brutfuner pencils for doing the colouring books I've recently been given. I didn't want to waste my good pencils, and had heard a lot of good things about these budget pencils.
I always believe the proof is in the pudding, and I'm looking forward to trying them out. I'm not expecting them to be the level of my work pencils, with your review I know more if what to expect from them. Thankyou.

Can you say which one is softer and better: Deli or Brutfuner? Please
Now I’ll have to get the 120. Great work René, thanks!
It is a really good idea to create these swatch strips for each of your colored pencil sets on the white paper upon which you most often color.
They are not massively different. Just slightly nicer.
Hi , I just love your wallpaper ! Very cool idea.
Sarah, I use pencils for mixed media, specifically on top of gouache, could you please do a video about coloured pencils that are good for mixed media?
Sarah: We can have our own pencils....
Me: That's something I need to buy....go for it!
Would you buy 40,000 sets for me? 😜

I am an artist from another country but loved your art and I love the pencil colours that well
I recently brought the 180 pack Brutfuner Oil Pencils.

Where is the factory in China that makes Brutfuner? Do they also make Castle Arts? thank you
Try them on Drafting Film, omg they really perform, better layering than Polychromos! (I'm using the round ones that look like Prismas, a 160 set).
Some pencils do, some pencils don’t. I’ve never had a trouble mixing brands personally
I’m glad it was helpful!
@@SarahRenaeClark yeah they're not exactly the same but still a brutfuner variant. They're good enough for the price bracket.

Crayola gets their color pencils from Faber-Castell factories in Brazil. They are made cheaper than the premium Castell brands and seem to be exclusive to Crayola.
Interesting to know this.🎉
Hi Sarah I just watched your video reviewing Brutfurner oily colored pencils, round and square. Mine have different numbers to the ones you reviewed. I got the 160 set, a lot of pencils!
Are they black barrel or colored on the outside?
@@SarahRenaeClark they are coloured on the outside
We own both sets and like them very much. Sarah, you are badass! Princess Leia kicks all others’ backsides! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The prismacolor are perfect, and they are my best option by the moment, and do you exclude them of into the better and profesional?
Does anyone know the difference between the 180 Bruts Oil pencils with the black barrels and the 180 Bruts Oil pencils where the barrels match the color of each pencil? Do they color the same? Is one better than the other?
Have a look art artjourney she did a test on all of them, good video.
i have the shuttle arts 172s. my sis gave me a smaller set of brutfuner and the color number didn´t mach. After swatching there are some matches but not all and not in the color numbers. oh by the way, I use the metallics as extra gray tones, not for the effect.
Great video! Thank you for your many hours of investigative research to explain the many different brands of budget pencils.
Regarding the square pencils... do you just sharpen them in the, for instance, a Dahl sharpener?
The Dahle works fine. Or the larger hole in most sharpeners that have 2 holes.
@@SarahRenaeClark thanks, I plan on getting the Brutfuner squares as looking for best in my budget and have been trying to decide on best sharoener to go with them as I have one small Krum oencil sharpener.
I just bought square set. Thanks 😘
theres some people on here rly raving about the deli or nyoni pencils, could you have a look at those too?
I’ve been considering them!
@@SarahRenaeClark They say theres suppose to be the same. So it be nice if someone who actually knows what they are talking about checked them out. I dont trust everybody on here XD
@@thelipsofanangel90 I know Nyoni are another brand that offer whitelabelling, so that wouldn’t be surprising.
@@SarahRenaeClark The Nyoni and Markart pencils are one and the same. Lori Green @ Color My World, went down that rabbit hole a few months ago and did some real digging.
@@FernCurtis she has mentioned 4 different brands as being the same pencils. That i know of, so if thats the case not only markart and nyoni are the same.. I just dont base my pencil buying on one person. The more info the better for my wallet it is! I think she does a good job aswell tough. But get burnt too many times and more info is always gonna be better.
Hello, did you have a Color chart of the brutfuner 180 please? Thank you.
