    Friendly FYI...If you have a colored pencil that continually breaks get an electric heating pad and fold it over with the pencils inside let the pencils cool down completely then they should sharpen beautifully...the wax/oil heats up and resets inside the pencils and binds the core..like anything air pockets can get in the wood pencil causing the inner core to crack

    I don’t know if somebody has commented about this already, but I’ll give it a go!
    The Chinese characters on this box are quite the same as the ones used in Japanese, and about Japanese I can say something, so it would go like this:
    油性 = Oil base
    彩用 = pigment used
    So it would translate as it is, Oil base pigment used, so it’s an oil base pencil.
    Above Nyoni, 尼奥尼 the reading it’s the name of the brand itself “Nyoni”, about the meaning of this I’m not sure…
    The one below the brand, since I don’t speak Chinese and the characters are in cursive they are a little bit fuzzy to understand (this one you guys have to excuse me, I really can’t understand them lol)
    The character besides the numbers, 色, it means colors, it’s the counter for colors, so it would be 36 colors/48 colors!
    Loooved the comparison in this video sarah, I might get these ones for my collection, because you know… colored pencils are never enough! 😍😍😍

      Yes in Chinese 油性 yóuxìng means oil based. Xìng here means the property or nature of sth. It is also the word used to mean gender.
      彩铅 căiqīan means colored lead (meaning the pencil core).

    Thank you Sarah for your super-detailed review!
    I'm suprised that Nyoni is sold out of China with Chinese version case. Nyoni is a brand which produces art supplies in China, being the choice of many art students for its good quality and affordable price.
    Here's the translation of the charaters on the case:
    油性 = oily(not oil based)
    彩铅 = 彩色铅笔 = colored pencil
    48色 = 48 colors
    Please note that in China, colored pencils are classified basing on their water solubility and marked as two types: oily (油性, aka oil based OR wax based) colored pencils and water soluble (水溶) colored pencils.
    Hence the printing "油性" doesn't really tell you if it's based on oil or wax. Sometimes "油性" is translated into "oil based" or "oily", neither of which promising the pencils really base on oil. You may well have to trust the feeling of your hand.
    And for many strange "brand" names some of which even hardly make up a pronouncible syllable, they don't mean anything in Chinese either. They are probably just some randomly assembled name by non-English-speakers.

    So glad I found your channel. The live was awesome (had to do catch up since I’m in UK) & seeing end result was great as I now have an idea of your colouring process, where ideas come from with thinking process & that you do make things up just like we do. Using practice mini versions was a ‘doh of course’ moment etc.. It all helps us to get great results too so thank you.

      Oh and after a few pencils, sharpen a graphite pencil to clean the blade. If it's electric let it cool off every so many pencils. If not your lead can get screwed up from the heat

    I really liked how your colouring page turned out - even though I coloured along with you, mine is nowhere near completed yet. I was really unsure about what you said in the livestream about the background and told my husband I would not be doing that.. but having seen it - fantastic! Thanks for the tips etc and bring on the sharpener video. I wonder if you could maybe discuss the weirdness of the mid blue colours (mine are prismacolour and Derwent procolour. They seem to lay down a bit differently, more wax? Anyway I struggle with them and would love some tips.

    I loooove love love my Nyoni pencils for doing adult coloring. They're lovely harder lead pencils. But they're not super affordable. They're the same price as mid-tier Arteza. So I am VERY happy to find that I can buy the Markart pencils now that my Nyonis need a replacement. They're half the price. While I didn't mind the first time as I find them more mid-tier quality like Arteza and Castle Arts, but I do love that I can pay half price for the same products. This makes me so happy, thank you so so much.

    I have both Markart and Nyoni 120 sets and agree they are virtually the same product. The Markart were quite a bit less expensive and I do enjoy using them. I haven't had the Nyoni as long so haven't used them so much, but so far like them equally. I like them much more than the square Brutfuners (I must be a minority of one who is indifferent about the Bruts). My only complaint about the Markart and Nyoni pencils is that they don't have color names, only numbers. I am by no means the most prolific colorist, but do it for a creative outlet and relaxation. So I have two sets of the same pencils...not a problem since one will be a backup for the other. If they were junk I would have returned them. Two thumbs up!

    I have the Nyoni and love them. I find them great in colouring books but not as good as my Polychromos on good paper, which is to be expected. When talking about lightfastness can you please let people know, if you haven't, that about half of the Prismacolors are not lightfast. it might help people not make mistakes with their work. So sorry I missed the livestream-family dramas- but hope you do another.

    I have such a hard time blending colors. I’ve always had this difficulty and I’m not sure why I’m having trouble. I think I will just really focus on it and making gradients and just make sure I’m getting enough practice. Another thing is that I lost my Prismacolor pencils in a move and just never got more. I have Faber Castel Polychromos but I have trouble blending those. Hmmph!! Well, I had planned on getting a good supply of Prismacolor finally in August to replace my others so maybe that will help. I’m so excited to get them! Then in September I am getting Sarah’s 2023 planner and the Color Cubes and a bunch of other stuff. I feel like a little kid and can’t wait to get all my goodies

    I SO agree with what you said about how they feel "dry", and it most definitely is a completely different coloring experience with my Markart set compared to all my others. Unfortunately it has stopped me from grabbing them more often, however one thing I have noticed is the Markart perform quite well in coloring books that don't have that great of quality paper and I have no idea why lol. I also LOVE some of the beautifully unique colors Markart has that I've never seen in other brands. For example NO57 is GORGEOUS and you should see how tiny my little nubbie of it is and I still attempt to use it 🤣 I also noticed that for someone reason, their white (at least in my set), works almost as well as my Prismacolor Premier white for blending colors which I find very cool!!

    • @4alicekg

      Oh, and I meant to add that another thing about these, is no matter how toothy or not toothy my cardstock is, I'm unable to lay down that many layers at all which stinks, but the unique color range makes up for that. I'm definitely going to try the alcohol marker blending trick you discovered (brilliant!!!) with these. Much love 💕

I used to only color with colored pencils, but haven't anymore for the past couple years, so I wish I could give you good recommendations but I'm so far out of the loop now 😔. However! I'll always be able to confidently recommend Prismacolor Premier if they're in your price range! Hilarious opening with the translation app - I use google translate often an teach my ESL students why they shouldn't' use it with humorous examples. Thanks for the giggle. I have some Nyoni water soluble pencils and Deli's. I am going to try them out on the page and see how they compare.

    Sarah, I love coloring and would love to try-combinations of coloring pencils and markers. The only thing is I have a problem of markers showing at the back of the page of a coloring book. It’s drive me crazy!!!
    Is there markers of a reasonable budget that you can recommend?

    • @SarahRenaeClark
      @SarahRenaeClark  2 роки тому +1

      If you’re wanting markers that don’t bleed, you’ll need something water-based, not alcohol based. The downside is you’ll lose the amazing blending features that alcohol markers have.
      I haven’t tried many water based, but I have used Arteza, Ohuhu and Tombow and all seem to be good. Tombow is amazing but are pricier.

    I'm curious: have you ever found oil-based pencils to be greasy? Either to the touch or in leaving oily marks on a page? I'd love to see your review on the Amazon basics. They may be quite similar to a lot you've already reviewed, however, as most of them come from China.

    Sarah, you and other Artists here, said you can print your Pages on your own Paper. I just have a Laser Printer available. Would that work out too, or is that just an ink cartridge Printer option?

      @@SarahRenaeClark Thanks Sarah, for your reply. Ok, I can give it a shot then. Oh, that will broaden my opportunities in coloring. Got a nice coloring book, but it is quite thick and not the best to work in for longer time period. But now I´ll try to scan and get a single Page to work on. That´s really good news. Have a fine day. CU on your next projects 🤗
