    My mom (I’m 32 and she’s 56) loves your channel so much. I have watched y’all a few other episodes before she ever suggested to watch and she’s sent this to share with me. Thank you for all your hard work and taking the time to make this channel for new comers and original homesteaders alike !

    Cozy! We just cash flowed our new old style farmhouse lol What a great feeling ! I have my grandmothers wood cook stove which is full of memories for me and I hope to pass more down to my grandchildren =) PPL can't understand why I want to live ''primitive'' but to me it is a dream come true . I was truly blessed that my grandparents raised me in the old time Ozark Mountain way and I wouldn't trade it for anything this world offers ...God bless

      ***** Congrats on the ''Transformation'' =) It will be a fun ride! Can't wait to see this kind of world through fresh eyes =) I was blessed in deed to have been taught the old ways by my grandparents who only knew it as their way of life ... I remember my first Pregnancy test ( and that seems odd to say since I was taught the word ''pregnancy'' was not lady like to use.).. So I will say my first ''with child'' test lol was when I had married and was back visiting them while they were putting up sour krout ...Grandpa wouldn't let me any where near it! lol untill the last batch was ready to be put in the jar...He said ''Sissy take this last cpl hand fulls and add it to that jar right there'' ...''if you are with child it will foam up and not sill even though it is out of the same batch I used '' Sure enough a short time later that one jar foamed up and was bad!!! but his was beautiful ! He said that there is just something in a expectant moms chemistry that doesn't mix well with canning Krout lol and he was RIGHT! I was told the next week I was with child ;)

      To true lol ....That was for my 1st child of course but I never forgot it - I have 5 children 28,24,20,19, & 3yrs ;) yes thats a huge difference but I wouldn't change a thing .... Have a great day !

    Hey Doug - one thing I just want to share. A trick that one old Alaskan shared : Make a drop in the floor where your entry door is. And drop the door (about one foot) This will make a cold air trap and cold air will not go far when you open your door . Know you will probably not do it :)

    The cabin looks GREAT Doug-and I love the areal view of the homestead! I appreciate a lot of the details of your workmanship on the house, especially the log joinery. I have never built a log building..but it is only a matter of time. I laughed my gut off at your shout-out! Thanks for mentioning us over here! Its funny that we are both decorating with insulation :) As for snow, yes, we are getting HAMMERED one storm after another. I have 5 feet of snow on my deck. This was a great video; really gives a lot of perspective and is a window into the lifestyle that so many of us are working toward!!!

    I watched your Off Grid Hygiene video and enjoyed it. My husband and I are retired and bought some acreage and live a sustainable lifestyle. We have an acre organic garden, which we give most of the produce as first fruit offerings, we have our chickens, ducks and turkeys and come Spring some milking goats. We love our life. My ears perked up when I heard you say Yashua. I told my husband that they must be Hebrew Roots. I was more convinced as the video progressed. I will be watching more of your videos. Thanks for doing what you do!! Shalom

    I just came across josh's youtube yesterday and found yours today. I like your style and sense of humour. We are slowly moving towards the off grid life, growing our own veg and meat. This year we hope to land some property to start our life long venture with the family. Cordwood cabin, some animals, a little fishing and a whole lot of what ever. Just doing it, cause we get it, the system is a viscous circle and we are stepping off the merry go round and living a simple life. Thanks for the positive videos. Cheers from jjoshua in Ontario Canada!!

    Hi Doug & Stacy, we've been following you guys for a few years now after coming across you on tiny homes, love what you do 💚 we are working towards doing similar ourselves here in the UK. We have a few little building projects underway and the mo where we are using planks for buildings and I remembered you saying about a type of cork product that you used to fill the gaps between planks in your log cabin and wondered if you could share what the product was please? I've been looking on google etc to try and find a product that could suit, but just keep getting hundreds of pre-built log cabins come up! Thank you for what you share and for your amazing energy ✌️🌿

    Beautiful cabin! I admire you for living off grid. At times I'd love to do the same thing. Our home isn't efficient at all so we have outrageous bills especially in the winter. We moved our house here from Texas and we never had as big of bills as we do here. I don't know if I could live 100% off grid but I'd love to have a small cabin with solar and at least lower our reliance on the grid.

    Stacy, that was a great idea about the quilt. Very sweet. Have you ever considered learning how to sew? Doug, your home is very nice. I love simplicity. I started watching your channel because you and your wife live the way I would love to live and have always wanted to. I don't have a phone, I don't need many things, and I only ask for space to rest and to work making things. What more does a person really need?? As for your laptop and your Android, how do you charge them? What have you and Stacy done to keep down on the resin deposits in the cabin? Do you oil your cabin inside? How often do you clean up your work boots. I am not sure if you have a routine but Wranglerstar shows how to do it step by step so that one pair of work boots last your ages.

I do have one question about your cabin I know in this video you said you got 8" of snow and the Oak logs you built your cabin out of is 4" thick. I was just wondering how well insulated it feels i know the wood stove will heat a larger space with no problem but that is just something I just wondered... again new to the channel and enjoy it so far keep up the good work and God Bless...

    1911! Great weapon! I've used a para-ordinance TAC-4 as my primary carry weapon for almost 15 yrs now. It's technically a compact with a 4 1/4" barrel but the double stack mag it holds 13 rounds and is sized right for carry, at least for me. Love the 1911 platform.

    • @AmerijamAcres
      @AmerijamAcres 8 років тому

      +OFF GRID with DOUG and STACY let me clarify. Yes I can carry in Jamaica. It requires a firearms license but it also has very few restrictions. Compared to my NY CCW that took longer and was harder to get. The NY permit also has tons of restrictions on it. If you get a firearm license here they feel you have been properly vetted and don't worry with further restrictions. The Para was my primary carry weapon when I lived in the states and continues to be that when I travel to the states. I do have a carry weapon here but it is a 9mm. I chose that for multiple reasons but not worth going into that now. I would have preferred the 1911 just wasn't a fit for what I do here. Unfortunately!

    • @AmerijamAcres
      @AmerijamAcres 8 років тому

      +OFF GRID with DOUG and STACY I absolutely agree. I would not consider living here without it. The scary thing is it was faster and easier to get my firearms license here than getting my CCW in NY.

    Hi Doug and Stacey! I don't live off-grid like you guys, but somewhat close because I a am very elecrtrically hypersensitive (I'm very sensitive to EMF...radiation from wifi, electric lights and appliances, etc.). There are people with this condition who do move off-grid, but it just wasn't a good option for me so I've made it work living in a house in the suburbs. I keep most of my breaker switches off and for a long time I did use candles and oil lanterns like you guys, but eventualy I switched to solar flashlights. I just wanted to share a particularly useful one I have. It is very bright...I used to be unable to read at night with the tiny handheld solar flashlights I had, which would start dimming out in about an hour. But now it's fine with this bright lantern which can go even 2 days between charges (but I charge it daily to be safe). It is just so convenient to have something that can switch on and off so I don't have to fumble with oil and lighters when I come in when it's already dark outside. And I really like that this lantern can be charged in the day outside. It can be a challange to get enough light in the winter sometimes, but it the rest of the year it's a breeze. Just wanted to share as I see that the way we are living has some similarities, and it's always wonderful to find something that makes the simple way we're living much easier. Hope this is helpful to you guys! smile.amazon.com/World-Green-Products-Rechargeable-Emergencies/dp/B00I53R7P0?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00
