There’s always going to be the people in the comment section saying “oh easy for you to say. I have to pay for X,Y,Z”
No. Most of us could live for less. But most of us aren’t willing to give up having a car and insurance to have a bike. Most of us want our 7 streaming platforms for which pay a sub fee for. Most of us bought the nice house and now have a hefty mortgage. We all trap ourselves thinking we need everything Joe smoe has. We pay for “comforts” that ultimately don’t comfort us from our real issues.
Yes. Very well said!
I wish we were killing ourselves financially for a nice house but no, it's just a small, average one 😂
@@kathrinkaefer Yeah innit. I literally can't make any more cut backs. I still can't save nothing, i'm in my overdraft every month. All my money goes on bills and food. I even grow a lot of my own food, it still aint enough.
Not speaking of a car or various luxuries but at least, you need a food, shelter, clothes and occasionaly a medical help, right? You just can't live in the woods, not anythere in European continent, or in the USA, at least. There is simply not enough wild animals to hunt anymore. And even if they were, you need a hunting licence, or how it is called in your country. You cannot just chop some wood for building a home or heating it either - you will be arrested for it. You can not settle on some unclaimed land - there is no such thing anymore. You can't build your house on your own property without a shitton of licenses and inspections from the government. And building materials are not free either. Same goes for homegrown food - it could prove itself even more expensive than if you buy it in a supermarket. If you don't have your own house or apartment, then you have to pay to your landlord. Of course, you always can live under a bridge in a cardboard box, but I doubt that life would make you happy without hefty daily dose of alcohole or drugs (which is again wouldn't come for free). And what if you would fell ill? Even if your country have a free or semi-free health care (mine do - with my health condition i would already be either dead or hopelessly in debts if I had to pay my hospital bills on my own), you'll still need to buy your prescribed drugs, and farmaceutical companies are greedy as hell.
Just face it: novadays society is built in such a way that people just can't live on their own, without a Big Brother type government. Resouses is too scarce to just live a "simple life" and those who distributing these resourses have a complete power over us.

Sold my flat, bought a tiny house with a big property next to a beautiful lake inland in norway.
I can grow my own vegetables, fish in the lake, chop my own firewood. I've got no neighbours, clean air, clean well-water, and when I sit on the veranda I can only hear birdsong. No cars, no traffic noise, no sirens. No industrial sounds. At night I can see stars clearly, there is no light-pollution.
My mental health went from depressed, miserable, and horrible to great. I'm at peace. I can touch grass barefeet in the morning, feel the morning dew. I can go for a swim without taking the car, bus or train to get to water. And I can do so nude because there is no people around. In a world where "keep yourself busy" is one of the ultimate currencies, giving ourselves time to enjoy the quietness is an act of rebellion that is worth more than we think. Thank you!
very nicely put
The funny thing is the happiest time of my life was when I barely did anything. Worked part time, pottered around in the garden. Slept a lot, went on long walks. Now i'm "keeping busy" i'm miserable.
I think keeping busy is an excuse for not doing ANY self reflection.people I believe are genuinely scared of what they will find once they look at themselves
@@keithparker1346 BINGO.
It's more a matter of how you keep yourself busy. Some people always claim to be bored, but I can't understand them. I'm always busy, never bored, but I do things I want to do.
I'm tired of paying taxes to a government that doesn't represent me, and is actively working against me.
Yes, the government is working against you because it is serving the owning class, the moneyed class with millions and billions far in excess of their wildest need and those people have control over it and you don't. They should not be seen as having a "right" to all that that they had other people make FOR them. That's why you need to learn how to Collective Bargain, and also how to organize horizontal cooperation so that you can build a societal base that is independent of them and their government while also not pathologizing help and mutuality (natural parts of humankind).

Beautiful talk. There's nothing more important than true freedom... that feeling comes from inside only.
Thanks for sharing this truth which seems like a life with no purpose to the vast majority.
Reassures me that I'm not crazy.
Stay blessed ❤
As multi-generation American, I can say that my ancestors did not come here to be renters.
Your ancestors were pioneers and conquerors. Be proud of them!
The Boomers really got brainwashed by some bad ppl. The fact that they’re using up all their retirement money instead of passing it on is destroying the transfer of generational wealth. The powers have convinced them to keep their children and grandchildren as serfs. I don’t know why they buy into the scam except that they can’t think beyond themselves. It is extremely bizarre.
Your ancestors were slave owners and conquistadors who killed 56 millions indigenous Americans. You should be proud of them.
Wow, YT is really quick to delete unallowed comments
And probably stole land that didn’t belong to them
When I turned 50, I had a revelation. Had a home, land, lots of stuff, and I realized all the things I’d spent my life working for were holding me back from traveling, and being free. I gave most of it away, now I live out of the back of my truck and see the country. Homes can be a prison, possessions can become a ball and chain. The “American Dream” is YOUR choice, tell society to kiss your azz.
I have been trying to be proper southern lady for 40 years and it a losing battle! really society has been my boss and I'm just angry for all the effort I put and now even though I feel like I'm getting in trouble, I just dont have the energy to give away my energy
Sometimes you need a home though I’m 3q and have been homeless most my life so it wa very important for to own my own home outright which I do. I would not just sell it just because it’s considered a ball and chain. It a roof over my head where I don’t have to pay rent
I enjoy things on wheels, and my hobbies way too much to not chase my goals. Tractor, truck, and soon a boat. That’s just me, and I enjoy the hustle to get things in life. So not only do i truly enjoy the fruits of my labor but I enjoy the process too.
I love you, thank you! This is the path am threading. I needed this !.

Diogenes was a fool......me
I mean, maybe not to that extreme though. I like using a bowl to eat my food 😆
In life, you either have plenty of time and no money or you have plenty of money and no time. Only Time Is Limited so it’s best to use your time wisely.
So spot on!
Which means use your time to work otherwise they’ll find your wallet in the woods.
Awesome talk ,love your work, keep spreading truth and wisdom ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️❤❤❤❤
Thank’s for sharing mate, what you talked about in this video is what I’m going through as in thinking about do less and get back to what makes you happier in life. Do I like my job no, but do I need to work yes! It’s time to find the happy medium I call it, anyways enjoy that video it’s what I needed at this point in time for me. 👍🇦🇺
Best tip I have in this life is "Be useless. For being useless means you cannot be used".
Interesting...
Lao Tzu
That’s why Elon musk says “be useful” 🥶
As someone who is considered useless, there is a price you have to pay. Loneliness. If you are useless, people dont want to use you, and much of our social interactions are based on using each other. But sure, as long as you provide other people with validation you are providing something of value, and are in that sense not useless anymore.
It is better to choose what you are useful for. Letting others decide for you is dangerous.
Love your videos, from rural Indiana USA. My motto is "leave me the F**k alone".
As our ancestors said 250 years ago, "Don't Tread On Me!"
Same motto I have in Florida...The Beachcomber 😎
Hey neighbor. I'm in rural southern Indiana
Irresponsible and illogical motto. Inevitably you yourself are treading on others. You live in this world, you eat food, you make a shelter, you are treading on other living things. So you can’t turn around and say “don’t tread on me”. We have to coexist with the world around us. Isolation is not an option, only a delusion.
Thank you for the nice talk. It brought calm to my morning. Love, Greg
I’m sooo glad I found this channel! Thank you for sharing, great perspective and realization that it ALL DOESN’T MATTER. Life is short, be happy.😃
I've been trying to tell people this for the longest, the 9-5 rat race hustle culture isn't the way. People would rather slave away at a job they hate for their entire life to pay for big expensive houses and cars; then buy something cheaper that wouldn't be a burden and would allow them to work less and actually live. People are way too worried about what others will think of them and they think they have to buy expensive items, so people don't think less of them. I really wish people would understand that for example driving a 20-year-old car and having a smaller home with no debt is the biggest win.
Experience is the best teacher and we are only responsible for ourselves.
People who say this are in the privileged position of having something to sacrifice. Where do you go from already living as cheaply as you can?
@@kathrinkaefer It is getting really bad in the UK now. The great reset is in full swing now. It seems like every time I go to the shop the prices have gone up. The bills I pay go up massively every year. All I do is go work, garden and sleep. That's a too luxurious life in 2024 apparently.
Imo a LOT of men are doing the rat race stuff to impress women
@@greenwendal5056do you enjoy your work? If not change it
I needed this message.
I did walk away from everything in 2018 in search of a cabin in the woods and lots of doing nothing except what makes me happy.
Unfortunately I got distracted by a man that did everything to keep me in his world, a different version of what I was leaving behind.
I broke free and packed everything and told him "you wanted to control everything in my life, now its your burden" and I walked away again.
As I sit here frustrated because I don't have a plan so I don't know what to do. I turned on the TV (UA-cam) and this video pops up. I started to think "what do I want to do" ... then I smiled because I want to do what I wanted to do... I want to head to the forest, feed the birds, buy an old-fashioned rocking chair and drive to West Virginia, find a place to sit and drink freshly squeezed lemonade. That's what I want to do.
Thank you.
" GO FOR IT " ! ! 👍🏻
❤
Love it
Almost heaven, West Virginia
Freedom is priceless. Don't buy into the lie !
I love your soul for posting this my friend. thank you

I'll keep this quote for myself
“Whether you think you can, or you think you can't--you're right.” ― Henry Ford.
One of the most misused stupidest quotes in existence
If you know, you know, if you don't, you don't. But that means having and education to know in the first place.
I love your message my friend.
I’ve been engrossed in this, consumerism as I work in media in the west. I’m part of the cog that drives the masses to turn the wants into needs. Thankfully I’ve self reflected and I now have improved on this.
Beautiful beautiful beautiful video!!!!!. Thank you!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yes indeed, I'm 53 and tired. I have worked since I was 14. I'm tired of being a slave and not getting much from it. What I need more of it peace and quiet.
. Either have enough saved or have a pension. That’s it, unless living in the woods or in a government shelter is what you want. I’m living on SSDI at 60. It’s hell on earth.
Same! I’m 61 and SO ready for peace!
I am a slave to my bills. I am getting older. What keeps us broke are taxes and high cost of living. 😢
donnadean well said same here a slave to bills🙏💐
Meanwhile, the ones who could pay tax have infinite loopholes to avoid doing so. We need a tax cut for the 99% and a tax raise for the 1% ... and that's the moderate of moderate solutions, the ultimate solution is anarchism - no governments, no owners, no corporations, no masters, but people actually caring about each other and not just #1.
just keep working then and find joy in the job.
Choices you have made have put you where you are. Look around at the variety of choices and lives people have made for themselves. Some choose a high paid corporate route others trades others service ECT. You chose where you are. You can choose a different way as well. It's fear that keeps you where you are at.
Yup, we arent broke cause of laziness but theft and policy.
I wholeheartedly endorse your message, well said my friend!
I am so thankful for your encouragement on this path of living in truth I have been on. I find freedom comes from removal of things, not adding. Thank you so very much for your wisdom and courage to truly live. I have so much to learn.
People say "I just want to be happy", but they trying to say "I just want to be free"....oh man, that was huge. Thanks for that words. Cheers from Poland :)
At the end of the day, we should focus to better ourselves and not be dependent slaves on the state.
Ourselves _and_ having an interconnected / horizontal community/world where we can compensate for each other's mutual weaknesses through sharing and cooperation. Both, not one XOR the other. Being interdependent on each other is not slavery, slavery is a form of parasitism, what I am talking about is mutualism.
What a powerful and beautiful message! I just discovered your channel and instantly subscribed. It is so true that we always seem to want more, feel that we need more, are never satisfied. Happiness comes from within not from possessions or social status. That said, the world is changing at such a fast rate that I think more and more people are beginning to crave a deeper sense of meaning in life and in themselves, a sense of purpose. "Do only the things that you have to do..., and apart from that, do only the things that you want to do." Very well said. Thank you for sharing your insights and wisdom.
Take care of yourself and your loved ones and be free, you've hit the nail on the head 👍 thank you 🙂
I just retired, I so love it. I didn't realize how little I knew about relaxing
Yes, I've been retired for 23 years now and just love it!

My Grandpa has been retired for 20 years and aside from Bible study there's nothing he enjoys more than tinkering. Thats what he calls it. Doing whatever whims him. So happy that he's happy and free. He has a gorgeous collection of whittled walking sticks. If you haven't just sat and whittled a stick I highly recommend it :)
I found a couple of sturdy sticks yesterday and now I see your comment, fantastic I will definitely start whittling soon, cheers for the timely nudge.
Thank you very much Bjorn, for this interesting and inspiring video! I think you are right! Simplicity , is the key! And to be in nature , like you are now, is a " renaissance"! When I am in nature, I instantly return to who I really am!
I am so glad you did this video it truly touched my heart and made me think of where I am at in my life...Freedom is priceless
61, still in the rat-race, but starting to streamline my life/belongings. All I want, more and more often, is to be left alone in peace. When I do retire, I'd like it to be away from people. Just me, and relaxing peace and quiet.
Can I go with you? I'm 62 and I can be quiet. :)
Same situation, Same feelings!!! But , I have to work untill I am 67!!!! Crazy .Greetings from Madrid
I'm 62 and would love to join you. I can be quiet. :)
68 have been retired nearly 4yrs...every day is Sunday✨️
I value autonomous freedom and privacy, which is further being taken away every year.
I gave my blood and tears for my country where driving and traveling is a "privilege," doesn't seem like freedom to me.
Bless you Bro xxx
Thank you Bjorn for the reminder of keeping things simple and free.
I'll be checking back often so I don't forget.
You DO have a point. It's a fuzzy line between hard work, stability, and calm peacefulness. I am a firm believer in hard work with not wasting free time. THAT is a big problem. Enjoy every second away from work. If you have family make that the priority. If you don't then find yourself and enjoy yourself. Finding a place in life (seeing our options) as you say, is put perfectly. I have found my passion as a home builder and been blessed to provide well for my family. And I see that the free time is always filled with the love of my family. I love this speech you've given us. I hope it reaches many, many people.
As a stroke survivor of ten years of recovery from 49 up to 59years i have done this cut the crap out of my life and prioritise.
I quit. Now, I am a woodturner and blacksmith. I choose my days. I do not have money, but I have freedom, and I will not willingly trade my life, ever again.
I do enjoy watching your talks. Feel like spent time with an old friend. 😊
Thanks Bjorn its always nice to be reminded of what we really need. Ive cut back 20hrs in week, i do 35hrs a week now. I was utterly miserable on the inside, so tired while smiling to the outside world. Do less Live more. Freedom, happiness & value 🥳❤
The best thing I did was to retire last year at 58……..yesterday I went 4x4ing up some forestry service roads here in BC Canada with friends and there was no one else around, and the views were spectacular 😊
I took early retirement. Now I'm going kayaking...The Florida Beachcomber 😎
Must be a decent pension, otherwise it ain’t doable.
I haven't worked a full time job in 10 years and zero job other than homesteading for 3 years.
The wisdom learned while producing food for oneself (and others) is the wealth. And the time it took to learn it.
Interesting! You mean you live off grid? To what extent are you producing your own food? Do you hunt it yourself? Do you live without any type of modern comfort from society? Did you write this from an internet cafe or do you use internet in your house? Sorry for stupid questions maybe, but I'm just curious, thanks! :)
@@gustaf3387Don’t worry. It’s usually people with money already who say these things. The average person needs to work, unless they inherit money or win the lottery.
@gustaf3387 My wife and I scraped by for years, both working part time, seasonal jobs while starting our homestead. Now she works full time and I stay home on the farm. We raise and process chickens, turkeys, ducks, pigs, goats and cows. I spend the summers baling hay to feed our herd and gardening. We did "inherit" this farmhouse that my grandfather built, and the 1870s barn that sits on our 4 acres, and the 60s and 70s era haying equipment that I use and maintain. We heat with mostly wood. Our bills are property taxes, electricity, basic internet, vehicle fuel, and maintenance. No phone, cable, or cell phone.
This is not a commercial farm. We gave up on the idea of making any money on farming. There's no market here, really, too rural. We donate excess produce or barter to restaurants for home/kitchen supplies.
