I have started over several times in my 63 years, but 3 years ago was the first time it was intentional. I had all the kids come in and take anything they wanted (except my most basic needs) and packed up my chickens and what was left and moved to TN. Built a 384 sq/ft cabin and have never been happier.

My father in law gave me the best advice when my husband and I got married. He said, "if you can learn the difference between what you want and what you need, you can set yourself free" He was right.

I was so motivated after watching this video that I took a car and trunk load of books, dvds, clothes and kitchen gadgets to CommunityAid thrift store for donation. I feel better already. Thanks for the encouragement.

I’m in the middle of purging. I rented a 10 yd dumpster & filled it in 3 days. I took books & magazines to work for the free table. Donated clothes, coats, shoes, jewelry to different places. I tell my kids & grandkids not to buy me anything but I will always take a photo. I up cycled a lot of furniture & sold it. I kept saying I can’t believe I saved all this stuff. I really feel great now.

When we moved out to the country, I spent a year just combing through our stuff to make sure that whatever we moved I wanted. I am now going through and organizing and purging anything that we no longer need. There is just too much to do and we all probably need less than we think. Great video!

look up the KonMarie Method. In Japanese culture they are used to small space living. I really enjoyed it. The Purge is more about keeping things that bring you joy.

I love purging. I do it often and the more bags I fill up to donate the better. For me, having uncluttered closets with room and drawers organized to sparse, makes me feel great. Less hassle and can finally be rid of anxiety of having too much. Blessings

Been thinking about purging more lately. Been living in a 1976 twenty foot camper for the last 3-3/4 years and I have two storage units that cost $$$ every month. Plus the walls in the camper are closing in. I am saving money to move off grid like you guys either here in SW Missouri or NW Arkansas. I am really interested in all the kitchen/household appliances that you switched to that are manually operated. Maybe you could do a video on those if you haven't already. Thanks!

My husband and and I just bought a 1200 sf house which seems huge after living in apartments for years. I'm committed to filling this home with love, not stuff. I purged before we moved and I've been amazed how much more stuff I had that I didn't need. Truck load after truck load has left since we moved in and I'm not done yet. Hoping to get to a good place with the purging by the time this baby comes :)

I know you posted this almost 3 years ago to the day, but I just "met" you at Baker Creek Spring Festival this year. Thank you so much for your transparency and for opening your lives to us. This video has re-convicted me (if there is such a word). My husband and I have actually up-sized - two living spaces connected by a common kitchen for our sons, one who is autistic so he can have guided independence. However, our portion of the home is a down-size for us. This video is showing me so many additional ways to manage. Thanks, again!

My husband and I have been saying for the past year that it was time to purge and I think this is what we needed to get him to help with the purge and support me in the final goodbyes of all the dust collectors that have found their way into our home (over 40yrs worth of stuff). I loved it when he was active duty in the military and we had to move....one large UHaul truck for the 4 of us and any animals we had at the time.

It’s amazing how you don’t notice how much stuff you have after 12 years in the same place! But when you go to move! It’s like why do I have all this crap?! I sold tons of stuff and threw away about 2 thirds of the rest and kept a third witch was the really good stuff. It was a huge eye opener and yea, I’m not doing that again! Keep it simple it’s way better!!! 💪🇺🇸💯

This is one of my favorite videos!! We began our purge and the house has been on the market for one week now. It feels so good to just "Let It Go". It gets easier once you start Letting Go. Most of our stuff is in storage. If I could repack there would be a lot more that I would get rid of. Will be staying in a fifth wheel for a while so when we build a storage barn and move stuff from the storage unit I will be "purging" some more. Now if I can convince my husband that he only needs a few coats.

Things that is still inside packages never opened new and they were shopping always buying the newest product everytime something else came out, it was heartwrenching to see. I pray someone who sees this video will be wise and not live in greed selfish prideful.

I have the same rule for myself. I taught my children when when they were home while growing up. If you don't use in a year then you don't need it, get rid of it. It does make for a much neater home and teaches your children waste not want not if you teach them young. Great video, thanks for sharing.

Between going through my mom's things after she was killed by a drunk driver and then my own move from a big house to a much smaller one, I learned a hard lesson about having too much stuff. Now I regularly purge, am more conscious about buying (or not buying, if you will) and try to get rid of something if I bring something new into the house.
It's an ongoing project because stuff still accumulates (gifts, changes in life that cause changes in what you use/don't use, things wearing out, projects that never get done, etc).
Even if you aren't downsizing, doing your kids a favor and purging so they don't have to deal with it when you pass is a good thing. The other benefit is that it really does make you feel more peace and joy in having less stuff to store and clean and that is taking up space in your environment. It's amazing to realize just how much stuff you really DON'T need. :-)

Have always lived in 500 sq ft homes and live in Paris where bedrooms, kitchens are small and one discovers that an armoire holds all the clothes I have (six dresses, one coat, six pairs of footwear, four pairs of sweat pants for under my dresses in winter). Living spaces tend to be small in Israel as well. Less is more is our motto. We also do the Zero Waste Home method (great website). Only cotton linen wool which fits with our kosher lifestyle as well.

Wow, what an eye opener for us all. You guys are good stewards, thanks for sharing all these good tips. How true, we tend to accumulate things not even thinking whether we need it. I myself so easily give in to "sales" promos and before I knew it, my closet is loaded with clothes I've not even worn for years. Time to purge!!!!!! Big thanks❣️

Have you done a video showing how you have your kitchen set up. How do you do your preserving, storage of canning supplies and then how do you store your food? Or do you have these things in your outbuildings? Doug said he had his clothing made, so do what things do you have someone else do...sewing machine???

I’ve had nice walk in closets too, accessories upon accessories. Lots of clothe, shoes, purses, a lot with tags. I started working out and looking into eating better which led me to homesteading youtuber(I’ve been hooked ever since). I downsize my big closet to half closet from a regular closet , not a walk in. Stacy I had every color sandals, heels in various colors, shirts in every color, purses to match different outfits. Lord it was just too much, now if I get a new piece of clothing something has to go, and I’m constantly going Thru my closet. Another thing it’s hard it’s to let go was my LV, I did get rid off my most expensive LV purse and wallet and kept the agenda that I turn into a Wallet.
My problem is the kitchen, it still remains the same. I’m still having trouble downsizing my kitchen because we love to cook and love kitchen stuff.

Great Videos, you guys are a crack up. Been meaning to purge for awhile. Electronics are my weakness. Although I've been successfully lowering my carbon footprint as of late. I think this weekend will be a good purge weekend after my Redwood Bonsai class. Thanx for sharing.

I would love to see how you do laundry. would also love to see how you roll your clothes too. I think the transition would be hard. Because there are times when we need clothes that are more appropriate for events that we go too, though not often. going out to a nice restaurant for dinner (rarely) Weddings, graduations, church, and sadly, more often funerals, Winter wear is the hardest, because they take up so much room. I have to have insulated coveralls in winter. lol Farm life also means washing more often and changing more often, especially in summer. If you work at a job away from the homestead, there are the clothes for that. I have discovered Daluth Tradings Dri on the Fly pants and they are the perfect summer homestead pants I invested in two pair and they take up very little room. Not cotton, but they are thin, light weight, have pockets and the air and water pass right through them(jeans absolutely suffocate me on very hot and humid days). They are very stretchy and protect my skin while letting my skin breath. I cannot do shorts on the homestead. Something is always biting, scratching and/or irritating my skin. Skirts, totally get in my way, always hanging and snagging on something. I think I would like a smaller version of the shirt like the one that Doug is wearing. lol This was a great video on extreme downsizing of our 'stuff'

So many good tips. We are beginning to down size as well. Just to much dang stuff.....LOL I am a former KY girl now living in FL so I am so glad to see you kept your St. Louis Cardinal shirt. If you ever see or talk to Misty Prepper tell her to get back on UA-cam. She is missed. God Bless. Love your channel.

Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful teaching information and tips on how to scale down things and clothes. I got rid clothes 3 times. I do a lot of natural fibers for my clothing. Thanks for reminding me to purge more clothes and stuff. I am glad Chris from permaculture homestead for recommending your UA-cam site.

Hi guyz!!!! (Dawn cierelli here-hubby Richard) :) I have been "down-sizing" since hubby & I got married (4 yrs)-we just try so hard to get the things we need for our little homestead....it can be challenging sometimes, because, I, like you Stacy, like "stuff" so I constantly ask myself do I need or want..very very good video you 2...stumbled upon this video...enjoyed it again! :) Blessings and shalom to you 2 out there! :):):)

funny thing is i found the minimalists josh and ryan.did mega purge then askded myself what lifestyle fits my minimalist views so with some extra encouragement from the neighbours not tolerating my hippy family we are now planning to live in a tent once we save up for it and find some land to rent....so much gere to buy while still paying a lot of rent for a huge empty house.

I use to keep bags of clothes cause I would someday make a quilt or rag rug! lol. Got rid of them, then attacked the closets. The kitchen is next. Dreading that extra room that has become a storage. But we are getting there!.
