Some common questions I’ve been getting: 1) property taxes. Of course I have to pay them. When you live rural they are much cheaper. I have a simple cabin that has no plumbing, septic, electric, etc… so that is much cheaper as well. 2) health insurance. Don’t have it and don’t want it. My health insurance is that I eat real food and stay active and happy. I have cash set aside if I get injured. Haven’t had “health insurance” for years. The system is designed to keep you enslaved to the system. 3) off grid and on UA-cam. The grid is the electrical grid. I am not tied to it, therefore I am off grid. I have a small solar setup, use an outhouse for a toilet. Off grid doesn’t mean you live out in the middle of nowhere and never have contact with society. I did that for awhile though. The point of this video is to show people who are unhappy with the rat race/city life that this is an option. You can do it if you want to. It takes far less money, and is just a healthy, low stress, great way to live in my opinion. Its not for everybody but it’s worked out great for me. Thanks for watching!
While there is plenty to legitimately criticize about the health care system, it is certainly not designed to keep you "enslaved" to it. Modern medicine, despite its warts, is one of the greatest achievements in human history. My dad is still living on his own at 90 years old. Without modern medicine he would have died when his appendix ruptured 55 years ago. Talented surgeons operated and saved him. Without modern medicine I would have grown up without a father.

It’s a calculated risk not having health insurance. I’m in my 20s, eat great, stay active. I just feel it’s not worth having for me in my situation. I know an 82 year old man that lives similarly and he says if you don’t go to the doctor you’ll find there’s nothing wrong with you. That’s a stretch of course but there is some truth to that. And they push wayyy too many meds nowadays.

I’m 65. I started living off grid 2 years ago. I love it. That said my family thinks that I’m touched in the head. No matter what the weather is outside, I look out and see the beauty all around me. And that brings me peace that they don’t have.
@@TheMiaOrange Finding land is hard. Affordability was one of my biggest challenge. After that away into the property, (roads) water, can I grow crops, will it hold livestock. All important things to look for. My property can do most of that, but water. I need a well, but the cost is beyond what I can afford. In the winter I can use snow for all my needs, but summer is another story. If I had to do it again I would look for water. I will set up rainwater catchment system, but it will have to be taken down in winter. Many things to think about.😵
I plan to retire at the end of 2025 at 62 after 36 years in Telecom as a sales engineer. My wife will retire in May 2026 and she's loving life! But walking away from a good income stream and building the nest egg to living from the nest egg is a scary proposition couple with the alarming recession and CPI report
I feel your pain mate, as a fellow retiree, I'd suggest you look into passive index fund investing and learn some more. For me, I had my share of ups and downs when I first started looking for a consistent passive income so I hired an expert advisor for aid, and following her advice, I poured $30k in value stocks and digital assets, Up to 200k so far and pretty sure I'm ready for whatever comes.
My advice: for newbies to grow financially this year, invest. Saving is good, but investing elevates your finances. Why newbie make huge losses on trade is because investing without proper guidance can lead to mistakes and losses. that will stop you from trading, this has been one of the biggest problem to new traders, I've learned this from my own experience

You can’t believe how many times I’ve mentioned that I should’ve done this earlier. A lot earlier. You’re a brilliant man to have listened to your heart. Well done. Living off grid is amazing. Lots of folks say they can't cause they have kids. We lived in a tent for three months while we built out cabin. Me, my wife, and two boys are out here doing it. The biggest hang up to people getting out and doing it though is the lack of basic trade skills these days. Most people want a white collar computer or office based job. Working with your hands is becoming more and more valuable every day.
My Grandfather(born 1889-Idaho)did the same thing you are doing. Bought a piece of land, built(himself) small house. Wood stove-In later years they had a gas refrigerator. Hand dug a well. Heated with firewood . Most of their food they raised. When we were kids we would visit them.They had a modern house in the valley by then but we ALWAYS begged to go to the ranch and live in the old ranch house. Grandfather would play the violin, Grammy would read aloud from books(often Zane Grey)by kerosene light. He would tell us stores by the fireplace. Often Mark Twain and Russian folk stories. Grammy would tell us about our Genealogy and how she lived growing up. If we were lucky they would sing a couple songs. They had no debts. You and your Wife are exceptional people! Your children are lucky.
I’m 24 and my fiancé and I just purchased a homestead on the other side of Canada, we are moving out there in a month and couldn’t be more excited to start working towards a comfortable level of self sufficiency. We aren’t meant to live in cities all crammed together

I've spent the last 13 years working towards this lifestyle myself. Learning skills, and searching for property across the country. I FINALLY bought land in another province a couple months ago, and I'm heading out to it in 2 weeks to build the temporary structure to live in until I get my house built (which is very likely going to be nearly identical to yours). Unfortunately I didn't learn about this way of life until after I had bought a house in town. It's surprising how difficult it is to get out from under the life that society tells us we are supposed to be living.
You can sell your house in town with enough money left over to purchase some land out in the woods!! Don't worry about what friends and family think!! Do what you want!!
In the UK and own a house but i want to live in more of a hybrid way. The idea is to keep working my stressfree job that i enjoy, downsize my house to something small and easy maintenance plus buy a small woodland. We can't live on raw land here easily so i would build a simple cabin for "storage and welfare" then spend summers fulltime in the woodland offgrid and winters in the house. If i manage to get the land close to my home and work then i can come and go as is necessary.
I'm 58 and I think you're ahead of the crowd young man. You're going to have a really good life if we can keep everything under control. You got it figured out.

I was in the same boat. My wife and I currently live in the middle of the city with hardly any yard. We wanted out too. You can do it my friend. Treat your current living situation as a homestead classroom for the next year or so. We started by growing most of our produce in buckets. That will teach you a whole lot about gardening and it’s easy to maintain with very little space. Best food you’ll ever have and you’ll save money on groceries. We got 6 chickens and built a small coop from pallets and scrap wood on our back patio. We get half a dozen fresh eggs every single day and they’re amazing. We aren’t wealthy by any means but we found some cheap land in the Appalachian foothills. 7.5 acres with a stream, no zoning (very important) so we jumped on it. The biggest thing to remember is you’ll have to make some sacrifices and trust that they’ll pay off. I absolutely LOVED riding my Harley. I was actually riding it the day I met my wife and we rode that thing all over. It was like our thing. We decided to sell it and paid cash for a custom cabin shell. We work on it just about every weekend so we can get it finished and moved in full time. Anything we don’t have room for or don’t need is getting sold and used to pay for supplies and material. It feels overwhelming but you just gotta remember the reward. Minimize, make sacrifices, improvise, ask for help. When you finally get there you won’t miss about the matrix my friend. 3:00 Pro tip: put pallets under the wood. It will keep dry, and dry faster with air circulation under. Tested for 30-40 years. Stacked on the ground the bottom layer wtll absorbe moist and lose in energy.
That's what we do. I always thought that it just made sense. However, it gives the little rodents a sanctuary that my cats can't get to. We now have a Rat Terrier that is worth her weight in gold. She is "cleaning" this place up!
You both are inspiring to us, gives us hope for future generations to come back full circle. My husband and I have been married 39yrs, he just turned 60 yrs. old and I'm just a few days away from 58yrs old. We've been living a very simple homestead type life for over 30 yrs. now and have been debt free for almost 20 yrs. we heat with wood, cook on a wood cook stove in cool weather and over open fire or using a propane burner when hot. We raise all our beef, husband hunts, we raise poultry for meat and eggs, have dairy goats and a jersey dairy cow for milk and cream. The only expenses we have our very low and monitored power and natural gas bills, our yearly property taxes, vehicle and home insurance. My husband does work away from home (mainly at this point for health insurance) but has winters off for the most part. I will add that having health insurance as we age can be important and we have 5 yrs. until Medicare will be available for my husband, that is if it is even around in 5 yrs. Many people are upset and dismayed by the economy and inflation, while we see it, especially with animal feed, it isn't a huge concern due to our financial freedom. Keep sharing, you both are awesome, and we pray other young people will wake up and stop being slaves to the world and its influences.
I know it's probably strange to ask, but one worry I would have about this lifestyle is aging. How is it now that you're getting older? Do you have good savings or worry you won't be able to support yourself as things get more difficult?
@@wulergaming We have been debt free for over 19 yrs and have saved, plus we never fully expect to retire, we are people who like to be busy doing something and both our hobbies will afford us to make money at craft fairs and shows. We live with very low grid and will only need money for property taxes and insurance. We also find with aging that getting things like hay is becoming an issue but have friends who offer their help and we either pay them or have them over for supper and they are happy with that. We do know we will most likely downsize on animals in the next few years as well. Hope that answered your question.

we’re basically the human equivalent of cows/pigs caged up in those industrial farms. It’s hilarious how “advanced” or cool us city people tend to think ourselves.
We are a 6 figure income couple and had very little saved and not much cash lying around the preverbal". '...don't have $500 for an emergency" that was us. The big thing was debt all kinds of it, cars mortgage (although our home isn't a high price one), student loans for our kids, and of course credit cards. One day we just got sick of being broke and went total scorched earth and became frugal overnight. Paid it all off, it took almost 5 years but now we have no debt and this year our savings rate is 50% on basically the same income that had us perpetually broke. So for us it is mainly staying out of debt and watching our spending, at first it was a real effort to save in our HISA and 401Ks but now it's actually fun watching our money grow. No car or vacation or neighborhood is worth being broke or financially unstable.

I’m 17, almost 18 and I really think this is how I want to live my life. I grew up in the suburbs of north Texas and I loved it. When I was 14 me and my dad moved to Gainesville Texas. We always wanted to move to the country and we finally did. He passed away unexpectedly a few months into living there and sadly I had to move back to the suburbs with my grandparents. Ever since I felt lost. Didn’t have any motivation or purpose. He left me a good sized inheritance so I’m heavily debating to go buy 30-40 acres in Oklahoma or Arkansas and build a homestead. I could invest the rest and live so simple and free. No stress, no debt. Just living life how we were meant to be. Thanks for making this video.

Take your time, get advice and go with your guy. Crucially don’t put all your eggs into one basket diversify invest some in your project some in other forms of investment that can give you a passive income like real estate or something. As a 68 year old woman who has been living completely off grid for two years, I couldn’t agree with you more. I do still have a cellphone, so I guess I’m not really 100% off grid. I raise ducks for eggs and goats for milk/cheese. I live in my RV and use solar for my power, have a well with solar pump for water. 5 gallon buckets for toilet, 12 volt system in the trailer is easily handled by the sun God provides. I love the physical labor aspect of it as it keeps me fit and strong. Good for you and all who are willing to come out of the world system. God is in control of my life and provides everything I need and makes this life possible.

I do have a wonderful guard dog that He sent me who keeps predators away from the ducks and goats. He has protected and provided for me in the most amazing ways since I have been here completely trusting in Him.

I have lived in a large city for the majority of my life, but now that I have a cabin and land in the woods of wisconsin...I'll never look back, felt I wasted my life living in a big city now. And I understand some people are not able to do that. But for those who can you won't believe the difference. Better than any drug ever is too wake up on your own land,that feeling it gives you, your own little world. Truly amazing.
Been living out in the boonies for a while now, and I lived in the city for much of my young life. But you shouldn’t regret living in the city though, that experience gives us an appreciation of living out in the boonies more than if we grew up in it.
I love that feeling too. But I also love going to great restaurants, seeing live music/theater, going out with friends, watching a game down at the local pub, etc etc. My perfect balance is my 15.7 acres of land in the Hudson Valley of NY (with a very small cabin for now) and an apartment in NYC where I work my dream job. Best of both worlds for me but everyone is different.
I think a lot of people have the wrong impression about what living “off the grid” means. It’s just that, normal living, only disconnected from utilities, therefore it’s still regular living doing what’s necessary to replace reliance on the grid with self sufficient methods. This is going to sound a bit weird, but I think a lot of people here in the comments are adding their own perception of the causation, as in the reason or intent behind the lifestyle, rather than understanding it is simply living the lifestyle necessary to be disconnected from the grid. No, there are no rules. No, it doesn’t mean you’re amish, or religious, or a doomsday prepper, or any of the other possible reasons that other groups may live what seems to be in similar fashion. Off grid living is living a lifestyle that fills the necessities normally satisfied by the grid in a self sufficient manner. That’s it. The rest is up to you. This is why he stated that this video is about WHY he does it. Because although it should be simple, people assume the motivations of other similar lifestyles onto him because he lives outside a city and does things for himself. In short, drop the prejudices, people, and listen to what the man is saying.
As someone with an anxiety disorder and a wife with the same and depression, I agree with you 100%. Every time we get to our cabins, it all melts away. I could believe in this lifestyle and the values of simple living for that reason alone. There are so many more benefits, of course
I started a whole foods plant based way of eating from Dr. John McDougal's free website and noticed a huge decrease in anxiety and depression. Might be worth trying.
My parents in their late 50s decided to do this. Have a large plot of land, cabin set up like yours and their lives are just a constant project of tending to their domain, building it out and enjoying their freedom. I can see how much fulfillment it gives and IM JEALOUS
I was born and raised on a farm in southern Illinois in the middle of nowhere. Today I worked as a senior systems engineer. Everything I’ve been taught about school doctors and society is all 🐂 💩. This is the way God wanted us to live from the very beginning. If you’re eating Whole Foods, you don’t need a doctor. If you break your leg or your arm, you can literally set it with two planks of wood. How do I know this? Well this is how we did it when we lived on the farm back in southern Illinois. Thank you for that video! My husband and I are in our 60's and just recently started our off grid homesteading life. We couldn't be happier and less stressed. It has always been our dream to live this way and are excited to have the opportunity to pursue our dreams. You are so right about some people not understanding how you can live without indoor plumbing, but quite honestly I don't care what they think. When you think about how much water is wasted flushing toilets and going down the drain, we all need to live more sustainably and mindful of our natural resources.
I’ve been living off grid for over six years. I’m now 64. I’m so much happier here than when I lived in a conventional house. Building was a long process. My house is under 600 sq. ft. With a sawdust toilet, wood cook stove, one sink, small 13 volt fridge and a 12 volt freezer. I cut my own wood and do lots of composting. It’s work, but as you said, satisfying. I xc ski in the winter and hike in the summer. I love the woods and peace and quiet. You did the right thing. I wish I had figured it out at your age.
This is definitely for me. I grew up in Jamaica living like this. It’s so peaceful n stress free. Now living in the US just living in the fast paced environment is just depressing for me. I know for sure being around nature n living like it was intended is overall better. But to each their own but I hope one day I can get back to this ❤

@@HollowDistrictstart small. Learn to garden in pots buckets, grow bags or if possible a community garden. Some towns/cities have a place you can garden for free. Or ask a neighbor, share the harvest. Some plants like squash, tomatoes, cucumbers you only need a couple plants. Green beans you want a 6 - 10 foot row and the same 2- 4 rows of sweet corn. And potatoes keep well so plant the same. A couple green bell pepper plants, a small row of peas or carrots. If you like a row of lettuce, or spinach. You can grow a bigger garden when you learn the basics. If you want to volunteer or share a space place an advertisement on you local for sale site on internet or a post at the grocery store billboard or at TSC billboard. Learn from a farmer, volunteer to help him to get knowledge.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO WAIT TO START building your future - here are just a few things you can do now. 1. to buy your land you'll need cash so don't spend money you earn or have already saved unless you absolutely have to !!! Save every penny you can on top of that. Enjoy being frugal. 2. Do not buy new cars or fancy gadgets, save your money and it will add up fast. 3. Get a second job if you can and save that money as well.. 4. live at home if you can 5. Do not eat out or drink or smoke or do any drugs - these things eat up your savings. 6 Start shopping at farmer markets, shop at used stores and flee markets and discount stores. Retrain your mind against waste. 7. Grow a garden on someone else's property for now (with permission lol) to learn how to farm and can etc. and to save on groceries. Sell your extra veggies at a food stand or market. Save your profits. 8. Watch UA-cam videos on the subject or related subjects like wood working, mechanics etc. 9. Make lists of things you learn on UA-cam that you'll need to remember and things you will need to buy. 10. Collect used tools cheap - New tools look pretty but old tools work just as well unless they are broken or they were junk to start with. Old tools have character and they are cheap. 11. Learn about setting up solar, wind and water turbine power systems. 12. Learn about how to build an out house. 13. If you cannot make sacrifices forget about living off grid. 14. Get in good all around shape and health you'll need it. 15. Get use to living on an early schedule. 16. Visit local homesteaders to learn and get a feel for it - offer to help for free to learn ... From city to country every year we traveled by train to visit granny, who lived simply, ruralGA, chewed tobacco, had chickens n pigs, chopped wood for an old potbelly stove, in a one room shanty shack, lived healthy 107 years! I’ve always admired how peaceful n serene her life was.
I’m 33 and it’s really refreshing to see younger folks than me creating a homestead to be self sufficient. I lived in beautiful CDA, left that area to homestead in Missouri. ( I do miss the mountains and weather, but I see the times we’re in and wanted to me more self reliant rather than dependent on businesses). I love simple living and working hard and not focused on me but on things that is more important like family, livestock, garden, and learning new skills.
As you mentioned, not everyone can live this way, and that's because we're all different. For me, this is the best way to live. I've always dreamed of building a cottage near an ocean or lake, surrounded by trees. I simply adore nature, everything about it. I've never been a fan of processed food, even before I knew anything about health. In my area, we have an abundance of vegetables, including those that grow on trees, as well as fruits and staple foods like yam, cocoyam, and cassava, though I must admit I don't even know all their names. You're truly living your best life, sir. 💕
Been offgrid 3 years. Its tough but its rewarding. You really appreciate the land when you do. When I get visits from family and friends they don't get it. They want to help me pay to bring electricity into my land and I kindly tell them no. Debt free is the way to be. And that huge pressure of having a mortgage is the best feeling in the world. I agree with what your saying being off the grid and the freedom you get from it. Yet as far as a mortgage and utilities goes there is no debt and there all prepaid. Ever since 1933 there is no true money of value in circulation. All there is are negotiable instruments. You can create your own . Yet any corporations (cable,credit cards,other utilities and so on) that sends you so called "bills" yet are actually statements must also send you a way so "pay",settle, zero out the account. So at the bottom of all of these "bills" statements there is a section that you tear off its called a coupon. You use this coupon to then accept the statement for value and to zero out the account... The goal is to wake up and free as many people as possible. We are not meant to be slaves to this system being tied down and working a 9-5 job to then be paid with either digits on a screen or federal reserve notes aka negotiable instruments that us as the living men and women can create our selves... This place can be heaven or hell. You can be a slave or free. You can work a 9-5 and be a slave to the system or let the system provide for you and this place can be ones own playground... Hint your not a us citizen

As a kid there were a few years (back in the late 80's) when we lived "off grid". No plumbing, outhouse, no electricity, etc.. As a kid I didn't mind much, and now as an adult we can't wait to get back to simple living. Just came across your channel. Keep up the good work and keep sharing!
Hey Kyle I messaged you around October of 21. I moved to my property I bought. I've built 3 cabins now 2 off grid and one that has access to power from a neighbor. My total bills are $140.00 a month not including food that's bought. My bills in Florida when I left were close to 3000 a month. I like the fact that I can work 1 day and pay all my bills for a month and still have a little bit left. But I work more than that. The financial side is awesome but the real reason I chose to do this is for Freedom. I can build what I want and pretty much do what I want on my property and it's so quiet out here. I have a couple neighbors that are kinda close and live similar to me. We all help each other out it's a small community. I watched your channel and others for years and when I was able to I dove in. My friends though it was awesome but my family thought I was crazy. But overall I'm the happiest I've been my entire adult life. Take it easy up there my friend
This style of living is the greatest threat to the modern world I love it ! The government wants everyone to rely on them for everything. People who can live like this are most hated by the government they don’t want us living like this they want us all cooped up in cities dependent on them…. It's not so much that they want you dependent on them- they want to be dependent on you. People who live in the woods and don't work (slave) and be part of the machine offer no benefit to the government. They are basically a waste of space and oxygen in the eyes of the almighty government.

I think it’s almost the “new” American Dream, like you mentioned with so much over reach of governments, more purpose, no major bills, and quite frankly it’s true when they say the simple things mean everything.
Especially knowing how your food is grown (grain fed free range), better life for dogs/cats/others, garden = no pesticide use, etc. It's important what we put into our bodies. i truly admire these two, happy for them. It's a simple life, but most rewarding, yes the American dream.

Part of your success is that you have building skills, a determination to figure out solutions and a very hard working ethic. I would venture to say that most folks watching this video don’t have or will never have these attributes, nor will they ever understand how much it takes to have success like you have created.
You speak the harsh truth. Kyle is not a normal young guy who plays Vidya all day and sits on his ass. He gets things done and is a problem solver. I also built my own home and Kyle was a big inspiration for me to take the plunge. I am a young guy and had HVAC experience and knew how to use tools and it was still extremely trying. Not everyone can just build there home that's the truth.

Great video. We aren't off grid but we moved into our dry cabin when it had no plumbing, no woodstove, and was just a shell. Best thing we ever did. All of the work you do is so much more satisfying. It's really good to see young people like you guys living a more natural life that is so much more connected to the world around us.

I been offgridin since 2012. I started off strgglin then got cozy over the last couple. Youll become a carpenter, logger, mechanic. Electrician(solar) landscaper,doctor,vet,chef, and a plunber. I love it.
Huge respect to you. I live in a bus, and despite the struggles we've overcome there's no regrets at all! Off grid, sustainable, and completely self contained, I don't rely on a landlord, power company, nothing. That's not the best part, it's the confidence and capability I've gained from all of this. Man this hits home. My dream was to live like this. I’m 30, got four kids, so many bills, so much debt, I feel like I’m trapped in a prison and can’t get out of the system. If I didn’t have kids I’d sell everything and try to live this lifestyle. Seems so peaceful. Maybe one day.
Oh, you poor man, only 30 and have 4 kids. Your wife probably feels the same way. If you can get her on board to like that lifestyle that's half the battle. The kids will oppose leaving their friends but believe your and their capabilities. You can do it!

You can bury a loved one on your property and it would be deemed a burial ground and you will no longer have to pay taxes on your land. That's why they created cemeteries so people would choose stop burying family on their land & then they can tax it. Feel free to look it up where you live and good luck to all of you
Good work and congratulations on figuring that out so young. It is indeed a very healthy lifestyle. Boondocked on family land in northern Michigan on and off for the last several years and my best health was the year that I was able to plant crops and figure out an irrigation system without city or well water. Went in for my check up that year and all my vitals, including cholesterol and blood pressure, were completely normal for the first time in decades. As you say it’s a great life for dogs too. So rewarding for both of us that she was able to roam and be off leash with no worry of her disturbing neighbors or having run ins with traffic.

All is well thank you. The only reason I’m not on the land now is that I had to return to Georgia to take care of my 85 year old mom. She comes first over everything else. I’m content with knowing that one day I will pull the trigger on my own piece of paradise. Planning to put a Boxabl on it. I would say your friends are the sane ones and everyone else is “touched in the head“. Of course I’m a bit biased 😊
Some common questions I’ve been getting:
1) property taxes. Of course I have to pay them. When you live rural they are much cheaper. I have a simple cabin that has no plumbing, septic, electric, etc… so that is much cheaper as well.
2) health insurance. Don’t have it and don’t want it. My health insurance is that I eat real food and stay active and happy. I have cash set aside if I get injured. Haven’t had “health insurance” for years. The system is designed to keep you enslaved to the system.
3) off grid and on UA-cam. The grid is the electrical grid. I am not tied to it, therefore I am off grid. I have a small solar setup, use an outhouse for a toilet. Off grid doesn’t mean you live out in the middle of nowhere and never have contact with society. I did that for awhile though.
The point of this video is to show people who are unhappy with the rat race/city life that this is an option. You can do it if you want to. It takes far less money, and is just a healthy, low stress, great way to live in my opinion. Its not for everybody but it’s worked out great for me. Thanks for watching!
While there is plenty to legitimately criticize about the health care system, it is certainly not designed to keep you "enslaved" to it. Modern medicine, despite its warts, is one of the greatest achievements in human history. My dad is still living on his own at 90 years old. Without modern medicine he would have died when his appendix ruptured 55 years ago. Talented surgeons operated and saved him. Without modern medicine I would have grown up without a father.

@@davidlenz6309 that’s incredible. There is plenty of good and plenty of bad. We can do amazing things today and can save a lot of lives that would have been lost. It’s a calculated risk not having health insurance. I’m in my 20s, eat great, stay active. I just feel it’s not worth having for me in my situation. I know an 82 year old man that lives similarly and he says if you don’t go to the doctor you’ll find there’s nothing wrong with you. That’s a stretch of course but there is some truth to that. And they push wayyy too many meds nowadays.

I’m 65. I started living off grid 2 years ago. I love it. That said my family thinks that I’m touched in the head. No matter what the weather is outside, I look out and see the beauty all around me. And that brings me peace that they don’t have.

@@TheMiaOrange Finding land is hard. Affordability was one of my biggest challenge. After that away into the property, (roads) water, can I grow crops, will it hold livestock. All important things to look for. My property can do most of that, but water. I need a well, but the cost is beyond what I can afford. In the winter I can use snow for all my needs, but summer is another story.
If I had to do it again I would look for water. I will set up rainwater catchment system, but it will have to be taken down in winter.

I plan to retire at the end of 2025 at 62 after 36 years in Telecom as a sales engineer. My wife will retire in May 2026 and she's loving life! But walking away from a good income stream and building the nest egg to living from the nest egg is a scary proposition couple with the alarming recession and CPI report
I feel your pain mate, as a fellow retiree, I'd suggest you look into passive index fund investing and learn some more. For me, I had my share of ups and downs when I first started looking for a consistent passive income so I hired an expert advisor for aid, and following her advice, I poured $30k in value stocks and digital assets, Up to 200k so far and pretty sure I'm ready for whatever comes.
My advice: for newbies to grow financially this year, invest. Saving is good, but investing elevates your finances. Why newbie make huge losses on trade is because investing without proper guidance can lead to mistakes and losses. that will stop you from trading, this has been one of the biggest problem to new traders, I've learned this from my own experience

We raised our 3 kids, who are now adults, off grid in the Ozarks. They loved it ! The best part is you get to know your kids.
@vldarden, it is NOT too late, if you can still do the work. When you are older just do it differently.
Living off grid is amazing. Lots of folks say they can't cause they have kids. We lived in a tent for three months while we built out cabin. Me, my wife, and two boys are out here doing it.
The biggest hang up to people getting out and doing it though is the lack of basic trade skills these days. Most people want a white collar computer or office based job. Working with your hands is becoming more and more valuable every day.

My Grandfather(born 1889-Idaho)did the same thing you are doing. Bought a piece of land, built(himself) small house. Wood stove-In later years they had a gas refrigerator. Hand dug a well. Heated with firewood . Most of their food they raised. When we were kids we would visit them.They had a modern house in the valley by then but we ALWAYS begged to go to the ranch and live in the old ranch house. Grandfather would play the violin, Grammy would read aloud from books(often Zane Grey)by kerosene light. He would tell us stores by the fireplace. Often Mark Twain and Russian folk stories. Grammy would tell us about our Genealogy and how she lived growing up. If we were lucky they would sing a couple songs. They had no debts. You and your Wife are exceptional people! Your children are lucky.

@@watchman9198 we purchased 1.5 acres with a 2 bed 1 bath house with rain water collection, septic and power for 245k. It’s 35 minutes from Halifax. After 2 years we will rent that place out and purchase more rural raw land

I'm 26 and me and my wife moved out to alaska and built our own house a year and a half ago. We live a two hour drive to the nearest gas station or grocery store. We absolutely love our new life
It helped that my wife had a background in engineering and I had a dad who raised me around the trades. But building our own house really was the best thing we ever did. Can't wait to do more

I've spent the last 13 years working towards this lifestyle myself. Learning skills, and searching for property across the country. I FINALLY bought land in another province a couple months ago, and I'm heading out to it in 2 weeks to build the temporary structure to live in until I get my house built (which is very likely going to be nearly identical to yours). Unfortunately I didn't learn about this way of life until after I had bought a house in town. It's surprising how difficult it is to get out from under the life that society tells us we are supposed to be living.
You can sell your house in town with enough money left over to purchase some land out in the woods!! Don't worry about what friends and family think!! Do what you want!!

In the UK and own a house but i want to live in more of a hybrid way.
The idea is to keep working my stressfree job that i enjoy, downsize my house to something small and easy maintenance plus buy a small woodland. We can't live on raw land here easily so i would build a simple cabin for "storage and welfare" then spend summers fulltime in the woodland offgrid and winters in the house. If i manage to get the land close to my home and work then i can come and go as is necessary.

This is inspiring. As someone from the city I never knew this was possible. I was programmed in the matrix. I want out,and I want this. I'm 33. Hope I can make this happen. In my lifetime.
I was in the same boat. My wife and I currently live in the middle of the city with hardly any yard. We wanted out too. You can do it my friend. Treat your current living situation as a homestead classroom for the next year or so.
We started by growing most of our produce in buckets. That will teach you a whole lot about gardening and it’s easy to maintain with very little space. Best food you’ll ever have and you’ll save money on groceries.
We got 6 chickens and built a small coop from pallets and scrap wood on our back patio. We get half a dozen fresh eggs every single day and they’re amazing.
We aren’t wealthy by any means but we found some cheap land in the Appalachian foothills. 7.5 acres with a stream, no zoning (very important) so we jumped on it.
The biggest thing to remember is you’ll have to make some sacrifices and trust that they’ll pay off. I absolutely LOVED riding my Harley. I was actually riding it the day I met my wife and we rode that thing all over. It was like our thing. We decided to sell it and paid cash for a custom cabin shell.
We work on it just about every weekend so we can get it finished and moved in full time. Anything we don’t have room for or don’t need is getting sold and used to pay for supplies and material.
It feels overwhelming but you just gotta remember the reward. Minimize, make sacrifices, improvise, ask for help. When you finally get there you won’t miss about the matrix my friend. God bless you on your journey. I know you can do it!

You both are inspiring to us, gives us hope for future generations to come back full circle. My husband and I have been married 39yrs, he just turned 60 yrs. old and I'm just a few days away from 58yrs old. We've been living a very simple homestead type life for over 30 yrs. now and have been debt free for almost 20 yrs. we heat with wood, cook on a wood cook stove in cool weather and over open fire or using a propane burner when hot. We raise all our beef, husband hunts, we raise poultry for meat and eggs, have dairy goats and a jersey dairy cow for milk and cream. The only expenses we have our very low and monitored power and natural gas bills, our yearly property taxes, vehicle and home insurance. My husband does work away from home (mainly at this point for health insurance) but has winters off for the most part. I will add that having health insurance as we age can be important and we have 5 yrs. until Medicare will be available for my husband, that is if it is even around in 5 yrs. Many people are upset and dismayed by the economy and inflation, while we see it, especially with animal feed, it isn't a huge concern due to our financial freedom. Keep sharing, you both are awesome, and we pray other young people will wake up and stop being slaves to the world and its influences.

I know it's probably strange to ask, but one worry I would have about this lifestyle is aging. How is it now that you're getting older? Do you have good savings or worry you won't be able to support yourself as things get more difficult?
@@wulergaming We have been debt free for over 19 yrs and have saved, plus we never fully expect to retire, we are people who like to be busy doing something and both our hobbies will afford us to make money at craft fairs and shows. We live with very low grid and will only need money for property taxes and insurance. We also find with aging that getting things like hay is becoming an issue but have friends who offer their help and we either pay them or have them over for supper and they are happy with that. We do know we will most likely downsize on animals in the next few years as well. Hope that answered your question.

emergency" that was us. The big thing was debt all kinds of it, cars mortgage (although our home isn't a high price one), student loans for our kids, and of course credit cards.
One day we just got sick of being broke and went total scorched earth and became frugal overnight. Paid it all off, it took almost 5 years but now we have no debt and this year our savings rate is 50% on basically the same income that had us perpetually broke. So for us it is mainly staying out of debt and watching our spending, at first it was a real effort to save in our HISA and 401Ks but now it's actually fun watching our money grow. No car or vacation or neighborhood is worth being broke or financially unstable.

I’m 17, almost 18 and I really think this is how I want to live my life. I grew up in the suburbs of north Texas and I loved it. When I was 14 me and my dad moved to Gainesville Texas. We always wanted to move to the country and we finally did. He passed away unexpectedly a few months into living there and sadly I had to move back to the suburbs with my grandparents. Ever since I felt lost. Didn’t have any motivation or purpose. He left me a good sized inheritance so I’m heavily debating to go buy 30-40 acres in Oklahoma or Arkansas and build a homestead. I could invest the rest and live so simple and free. No stress, no debt. Just living life how we were meant to be. Thanks for making this video.

As a 68 year old woman who has been living completely off grid for two years, I couldn’t agree with you more. I do still have a cellphone, so I guess I’m not really 100% off grid. I raise ducks for eggs and goats for milk/cheese. I live in my RV and use solar for my power, have a well with solar pump for water. 5 gallon buckets for toilet, 12 volt system in the trailer is easily handled by the sun God provides. I love the physical labor aspect of it as it keeps me fit and strong. Good for you and all who are willing to come out of the world system. God is in control of my life and provides everything I need and makes this life possible.

I have lived in a large city for the majority of my life, but now that I have a cabin and land in the woods of wisconsin...I'll never look back, felt I wasted my life living in a big city now. And I understand some people are not able to do that. But for those who can you won't believe the difference. But I also love going to great restaurants, seeing live music/theater, going out with friends, watching a game down at the local pub, etc etc. My perfect balance is my 15.7 acres of land in the Hudson Valley of NY (with a very small cabin for now) and an apartment in NYC where I work my dream job. Best of both worlds for me but everyone is different.
I think a lot of people have the wrong impression about what living “off the grid” means. It’s just that, normal living, only disconnected from utilities, therefore it’s still regular living doing what’s necessary to replace reliance on the grid with self sufficient methods.
This is going to sound a bit weird, but I think a lot of people here in the comments are adding their own perception of the causation, as in the reason or intent behind the lifestyle, rather than understanding it is simply living the lifestyle necessary to be disconnected from the grid.
No, there are no rules. No, it doesn’t mean you’re amish, or religious, or a doomsday prepper, or any of the other possible reasons that other groups may live what seems to be in similar fashion.
Off grid living is living a lifestyle that fills the necessities normally satisfied by the grid in a self sufficient manner. That’s it. The rest is up to you. This is why he stated that this video is about WHY he does it. Because although it should be simple, people assume the motivations of other similar lifestyles onto him because he lives outside a city and does things for himself.

As someone with an anxiety disorder and a wife with the same and depression, I agree with you 100%. Every time we get to our cabins, it all melts away. I could believe in this lifestyle and the values of simple living for that reason alone. There are so many more benefits, of course
I started a whole foods plant based way of eating from Dr. John McDougal's free website and noticed a huge decrease in anxiety and depression. Might be worth trying.
My parents in their late 50s decided to do this. Have a large plot of land, cabin set up like yours and their lives are just a constant project of tending to their domain, building it out and enjoying their freedom. I can see how much fulfillment it gives and IM JEALOUS

Its just me doing it alone so I unfortunately can't do a ton alone at once. Just doing a little as I can when I can. I'd also like to get rabbits soon!

Thank you for that video! My husband and I are in our 60's and just recently started our off grid homesteading life. We couldn't be happier and less stressed. It has always been our dream to live this way and are excited to have the opportunity to pursue our dreams. You are so right about some people not understanding how you can live without indoor plumbing, but quite honestly I don't care what they think. When you think about how much water is wasted flushing toilets and going down the drain, we all need to live more sustainably and mindful of our natural resources.

I’ve been living off grid for over six years. I’m now 64. I’m so much happier here than when I lived in a conventional house. Building was a long process. My house is under 600 sq. ft. With a sawdust toilet, wood cook stove, one sink, small 13 volt fridge and a 12 volt freezer. I cut my own wood and do lots of composting. It’s work, but as you said, satisfying. I xc ski in the winter and hike in the summer. I love the woods and peace and quiet.

@@HollowDistrictstart small. Learn to garden in pots buckets, grow bags or if possible a community garden. Some towns/cities have a place you can garden for free. Or ask a neighbor, share the harvest. Some plants like squash, tomatoes, cucumbers you only need a couple plants. Green beans you want a 6 - 10 foot row and the same 2- 4 rows of sweet corn. And potatoes keep well so plant the same. A couple green bell pepper plants, a small row of peas or carrots. If you like a row of lettuce, or spinach. You can grow a bigger garden when you learn the basics. If you want to volunteer or share a space place an advertisement on you local for sale site on internet or a post at the grocery store billboard or at TSC billboard. Learn from a farmer, volunteer to help him to get knowledge.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO WAIT TO START building your future - here are just a few things you can do now.
1. to buy your land you'll need cash so don't spend money you earn or have already saved unless you absolutely have to !!! Save every penny you can on top of that. Enjoy being frugal.
2. Do not buy new cars or fancy gadgets, save your money and it will add up fast.
3. Get a second job if you can and save that money as well..
4. live at home if you can
5. Do not eat out or drink or smoke or do any drugs - these things eat up your savings.
6 Start shopping at farmer markets, shop at used stores and flee markets and discount stores. Retrain your mind against waste.
7. Grow a garden on someone else's property for now (with permission lol) to learn how to farm and can etc. and to save on groceries. Sell your extra veggies at a food stand or market. Save your profits.
8. Watch UA-cam videos on the subject or related subjects like wood working, mechanics etc.
9. Make lists of things you learn on UA-cam that you'll need to remember and things you will need to buy.
10. Collect used tools cheap - New tools look pretty but old tools work just as well unless they are broken or they were junk to start with. Old tools have character and they are cheap.
11. Learn about setting up solar, wind and water turbine power systems.

From city to country every year we traveled by train to visit granny, who lived simply, ruralGA, chewed tobacco, had chickens n pigs, chopped wood for an old potbelly stove, in a one room shanty shack, lived healthy 107 years! I’ve always admired how peaceful n serene her life was.
I’m 33 and it’s really refreshing to see younger folks than me creating a homestead to be self sufficient. I lived in beautiful CDA, left that area to homestead in Missouri. ( I do miss the mountains and weather, but I see the times we’re in and wanted to me more self reliant rather than dependent on businesses). I love simple living and working hard and not focused on me but on things that is more important like family, livestock, garden, and learning new skills.

As you mentioned, not everyone can live this way, and that's because we're all different. For me, this is the best way to live. I've always dreamed of building a cottage near an ocean or lake, surrounded by trees. I simply adore nature, everything about it. I've never been a fan of processed food, even before I knew anything about health. In my area, we have an abundance of vegetables, including those that grow on trees, as well as fruits and staple foods like yam, cocoyam, and cassava, though I must admit I don't even know all their names. You're truly living your best life, sir. 💕

Been offgrid 3 years. Its tough but its rewarding. You really appreciate the land when you do. When I get visits from family and friends they don't get it. They want to help me pay to bring electricity into my land and I kindly tell them no. Debt free is the way to be. And that huge pressure of having a mortgage is the best feeling in the world. I agree with what your saying being off the grid and the freedom you get from it. Yet as far as a mortgage and utilities goes there is no debt and there all prepaid. Ever since 1933 there is no true money of value in circulation. All there is are negotiable instruments. You can create your own . Yet any corporations (cable,credit cards,other utilities and so on) that sends you so called "bills" yet are actually statements must also send you a way so "pay",settle, zero out the account. So at the bottom of all of these "bills" statements there is a section that you tear off its called a coupon. You use this coupon to then accept the statement for value and to zero out the account... The goal is to wake up and free as many people as possible. We are not meant to be slaves to this system being tied down and working a 9-5 job to then be paid with either digits on a screen or federal reserve notes aka negotiable instruments that us as the living men and women can create our selves... This place can be heaven or hell. You can be a slave or free. You can work a 9-5 and be a slave to the system or let the system provide for you and this place can be ones own playground... Hint your not a us citizen

(Gas for your vehicles, generator, food, feed for the dog, cat and chickens etc. other basic necessities). Keep up the great videos!

As a kid there were a few years (back in the late 80's) when we lived "off grid". No plumbing, outhouse, no electricity, etc.. As a kid I didn't mind much, and now as an adult we can't wait to get back to simple living. Just came across your channel. Keep up the good work and keep sharing!
Hey Kyle I messaged you around October of 21. I moved to my property I bought. I've built 3 cabins now 2 off grid and one that has access to power from a neighbor. My total bills are $140.00 a month not including food that's bought. My bills in Florida when I left were close to 3000 a month. I like the fact that I can work 1 day and pay all my bills for a month and still have a little bit left. But I work more than that. The financial side is awesome but the real reason I chose to do this is for Freedom. I can build what I want and pretty much do what I want on my property and it's so quiet out here. I have a couple neighbors that are kinda close and live similar to me. We all help each other out it's a small community. I watched your channel and others for years and when I was able to I dove in. My friends though it was awesome but my family thought I was crazy. But overall I'm the happiest I've been my entire adult life. Take it easy up there my friend

This style of living is the greatest threat to the modern world I love it ! The government wants everyone to rely on them for everything. People who can live like this are most hated by the government they don’t want us living like this they want us all cooped up in cities dependent on them…. It's not so much that they want you dependent on them- they want to be dependent on you. People who live in the woods and don't work (slave) and be part of the machine offer no benefit to the government. They are basically a waste of space and oxygen in the eyes of the almighty government.
One of my coworkers told me they're starting to do luxury taxes on folks who are trying to do this in many states allegedly. Fucking insane

This video is a year and some change old but it will never get old. Living away from people will extend your life. I can see the sky from where you were standing at the beginning of this video and believe me I understand. I looked towards the heavens when I lived in Maryland and it was not the same as if I were on my mother's land in Georgia. What a feeling when you are indeed in control of your life.

I think it’s almost the “new” American Dream, like you mentioned with so much over reach of governments, more purpose, no major bills, and quite frankly it’s true when they say the simple things mean everything.
Especially knowing how your food is grown (grain fed free range), better life for dogs/cats/others, garden = no pesticide use, etc. It's important what we put into our bodies. i truly admire these two, happy for them. It's a simple life, but most rewarding, yes the American dream.

I really appreciate what you have done and the things you’re capable of doing. I don’t know if I’m capable of it or not but I’m 55 years old and I am retiring early as an educator and I’m starting a small Homestead farm in one of a few places, and I’m looking now. anyway, the reason I’m writing used to tell you that you are one of the inspirations that encouraged me to make this change. It’s just me and my dog so I’m not risking my family or anything, and I want to go for it.

Part of your success is that you have building skills, a determination to figure out solutions and a very hard working ethic. I would venture to say that most folks watching this video don’t have or will never have these attributes, nor will they ever understand how much it takes to have success like you have created.
Watch Life uncontained -- they started with No skills but that didn't stop them. Now look at what they have -- its wonderful what you can do.
You speak the harsh truth. Kyle is not a normal young guy who plays Vidya all day and sits on his ass. He gets things done and is a problem solver. I also built my own home and Kyle was a big inspiration for me to take the plunge. I am a young guy and had HVAC experience and knew how to use tools and it was still extremely trying. Not everyone can just build there home that's the truth.

I've done this and it's honestly pretty easy. Much easier than living in the city paying huge amounts on rent and being stressed sitting in traffic.
Building a basic house is dead simple, the hard part is rules and regulations which are through the roof here in Australia

Im working towards a homestead, too. Sold my house this past December and paid cash for a 5th wheel to live in while I develop land. My son lives of grid in the mountains amd couldn't be happier. This was a good talk & hopefully inspires folks to just do it!

Great video. We aren't off grid but we moved into our dry cabin when it had no plumbing, no woodstove, and was just a shell. Best thing we ever did. All of the work you do is so much more satisfying. It's really good to see young people like you guys living a more natural life that is so much more connected to the world around us.

I been offgridin since 2012. I started off strgglin then got cozy over the last couple. Youll become a carpenter, logger, mechanic. Electrician(solar) landscaper,doctor,vet,chef, and a plunber. I love it.
Huge respect to you. I live in a bus, and despite the struggles we've overcome there's no regrets at all! Off grid, sustainable, and completely self contained, I don't rely on a landlord, power company, nothing. That's not the best part, it's the confidence and capability I've gained from all of this. Learned so much, grew even more. I don't think I could ever go back!

Man this hits home. My dream was to live like this. I’m 30, got four kids, so many bills, so much debt, I feel like I’m trapped in a prison and can’t get out of the system. If I didn’t have kids I’d sell everything and try to live this lifestyle. Seems so peaceful. Maybe one day.

You can bury a loved one on your property and it would be deemed a burial ground and you will no longer have to pay taxes on your land. That's why they created cemeteries so people would choose stop burying family on their land & then they can tax it. Feel free to look it up where you live and good luck to all of you

Good work and congratulations on figuring that out so young. It is indeed a very healthy lifestyle. Boondocked on family land in northern Michigan on and off for the last several years and my best health was the year that I was able to plant crops and figure out an irrigation system without city or well water. Went in for my check up that year and all my vitals, including cholesterol and blood pressure, were completely normal for the first time in decades.
As you say it’s a great life for dogs too. So rewarding for both of us that she was able to roam and be off leash with no worry of her disturbing neighbors or having run ins with traffic.

All is well thank you. The only reason I’m not on the land now is that I had to return to Georgia to take care of my 85 year old mom. She comes first over everything else.
I’m content with knowing that one day I will pull the trigger on my own piece of paradise. Planning to put a Boxabl on it.
