    We finish our test & review of the 2020 MV Agusta F3 800 with a trip to Chuckwalla Valley Raceway in the So. California desert near Joshua Tree National Park. Can the street suspension settings cope with track speeds?

    Hi Dave,
    Really enjoyed meeting you at Chuckwalla. I had no IDEA you were that fast. Very fun to watch you ride and go through your process. Hope to run into you again sometime soon, hopefully when you're in tuning mode. ;)

      I let my riding speak for my skills and thank you for the compliment! I will be back for more filming but there are a lot of hoops to go through to be a vendor at Chuckwalla.

    Seems very hard to discover a new track setting without the help of Dave Moss. It looks like the rear was pushing the front tire hard in some the faster sections. You can really accelerate quickly through the turns. Thanks Dave 😊.

      Once I felt more comfortable with the street tires, it being a brand new press bike, a track I did not know at all and traffic concerns, it was fun after 3pm.

    hey DAVE nice video! if the temperature was 20-25 celcius instead of 6-10 celcius how would this effect the tire pressure? what cold tire pressure would you choose in this situation for that specific tire?

    • @CatalystReactionSBW
      @CatalystReactionSBW  3 роки тому +1

      Cold air measures less tan hot air, generally 2-3psi between 8C and 25C so I have pressures for every 10C

    Hey Dave! It's Viet Tran (AFM guy) hope you're well sir. Always great to see you even if it's through UA-cam. I'm in Texas now. :( So far away from our beautiful West Coast tracks, but I'm making do! What do you think about this vs Panigale V2 for fun trackday toy?

    • @CatalystReactionSBW
      @CatalystReactionSBW  3 роки тому +1

      Viet!!!!! Great to hear from you. It is essentially a 959 with changes and that is a fun bike for the track if you like the torque of a V twin. Shock is weak on compression but that is the only issue to content with. Spring rates front and rear are reasonably balanced too.

    With ECU improvements, there is a lot to be gained there to make lower lap times so much easier. If you have done any ECU tuning on your own F3 800, how did that affect your suspension setup?

    • @CatalystReactionSBW
      @CatalystReactionSBW  3 роки тому

      No ECU tuning on the MV until last year when a Rapid Bike system was installed. No suspension changes at this time, but consistently now close to maximum with compression and preload so linear springs need to be acquired.

    Looking at a used F3 800 and a bit surprised there is no steering damper. Its a 2016 and curious if you think its a must especially for track days?

    • @CatalystReactionSBW
      @CatalystReactionSBW  2 роки тому +1

      None of my race bikes have a steering damper on them and the F3 has been flawless without it. I work hard to get the chassis to handle perfectly. A steering damper is a very useful tool for sure, but like any tool it has to be set and used correctly.

    1) How did you determine how much preload to add to the front: change in sag (with you on it), or just an educated guess about the number of turns?
    2) How did your friend start losing the rear end at that point of the track? Was he on the rear brake? Engine braking? Seems like "on the throttle" at that point is zero chance.
    Some of those shots remind me of being on Laguna when Josh Hayes went by me on his valvoline suzuki 750. I was like "man.....".

    • @CatalystReactionSBW
      @CatalystReactionSBW  3 роки тому +1

      1. Started with sag at 35mm for the forks and checked the cable tie position. Added preload and compression in increments as I got faster to stay off bottom. Steady incremental process. 2. Rear brake.

      @@CatalystReactionSBW Need to have a beer. The rear brake usage these days is pretty new. I'd love to hear more about the evolution. If I'm not mistaken, the thumb brake is courtesy of Mr. Doohan whose team rigged one up when his ankle was so smashed he couldn't operate it with his foot any more (1992 ?).

      @@CatalystReactionSBW I've seen very few in the wild and I'm not even sure they were 800s. Considering I see all kinds of other high end Euro bikes where in my usual riding spots it makes me think they either don't move that many units or they live mostly on the track. Anyway if I understand it correctly MV USA provided the bike to you so you could do this series on setting it up. I think thats a great idea and you are doing an excellent job. It would be nice if all the manufacturers were approaching you to do the same with their higher end bikes with adjustable suspensions/ergos etc.

      @@saisr1 Thanks for the support! Some OEM's see what I do as a value add to the product they provide to show how it can be made right for you. Others feel that I devalue their product by going away from settings detailed in the handbook. MV is the first OEM to offer me motorcycles to create video on.
