  • Explore the options for remote control operation of Canon’s XF400 and XF405 camera systems. There are several ways to remotely operate the cameras when they are out of reach by using your computer, smartphone, or tablet, and in this video host, Jem Schofield demonstrates methods using Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections, then looks at RC-V100 options using the Remote Terminal.

    Why isn’t the wired connection void of lag time? Especially using a Thunderbolt connected device. I use live-streaming and capture of sporting events with several sources and require real time monitoring. Has this improved over the years?

    For many years I've been using a Stealth Zoom remote zoom/focus/pause controller from VariZoom. Will it work with the XF 400 or XF 405 camera?

      Hi there. The XF400 / XF405 has a standard remote terminal for connecting either the RC-V100 or other commercially available remote controllers, so it should work. We hope this helps.

    Lovely video series, thank you. Do you know if it's possible to browse the SD cards when the camera is connected via ethernet?

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  4 роки тому

      Hello Ash!
      The XF400/405 is not set up to allow you to browse the SD card from a remote location. The Browser Remote application allows you to operate the camcorder remotely, once it has been connected to a network. You can find details on the Browser Remote functionality on pages 126-130 of the XF400/405 Instruction Manual. A shortcut link is Canon.us/9tubp
      We hope this is useful.

    Hi,
    I was wondering if its possible to use an external mini recorder to live stream on to a computer for live green screens etc? I have all the inputs but the camera is not picking up

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  5 років тому

      Hi Tom. In order to record to an external recorder, you must set the camcorder to external recording-only mode. Simply select [Internal/External Rec.] under [Recording Setup] under the menu, then choose [External Rec. Only (HDMI)]. You'll also need to set the configuration of the output signal. We hope this helps.

    With the RC-V100 remote installed is there a way to also connect a standard zoom and focus remote for the camera operator? Zoom and focus are normally controlled by the operator with Iris, Blacks, Colour Balance etc controlled by the Shader (although there have been many times I wish I had focus control) :-)

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  4 роки тому

      Hello:
      When using a wired remote control, you have to set how the REMOTE terminal will function on the camcorder. You would set it to either Standard (for use with standard commercially available remote controllers) or RC-V100 REMOTE A (the setting to enable the RC-V100). Please see page 93 of the XF400 manual here: Canon.us/9tubp. You may also want to watch our video on the RC-V100 at this link: vimeo.com/103729550/

      @@CanonUSA so the link you provided didn't go anywhere. But you still didn't answer the question. What we need in pro A/V is for control of zoom at the camera on a pan bar remote and shade control on the V100. Not one pro ccu has zoom control on it as it shouldn't. It's nice you added it for use on a Jib but in pro a/v it makes the remote pretty much useless to us.

    A few quick questions - how far can signal on the RC-V100 be ran? Also, I have a number of xf305 and xf705 cameras. Can they do remotely operated via a browser like the xf405?

      Hello Jaron:
      The RC-V100 remote can be used once it is selected under the [REMOTE Terminal] menu option in the camcorder [System Setup] menu. You can find instructions for this on page 93 of the camcorder manual. Here is a link: Canon.us/8fbd3.
      The XF305 does not have Wi-Fi functionality and cannot be controlled via Browser Remote. The XF705 can be used with Browser Remote and the instructions are on pages 164-174 of the manual here: Canon.us/hzkrq
      We hope you find this useful.

    Canon has systematically been removing remote ports on camcorders which is very frustrating to control a camera at 500 feet distance.
    Question: When you setup Ethernet access to the laptop, is there an ethernet port on the camcorder?
    Question: Once this setup for ethernet is performed, will camera remember settings at next power-up?
    Question: Can remote recording safe the files realtime across ethernet or is that done as a file move after the recording session?
    Thanks for the succinct tutorial. Good work.

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Ed! There is an ethernet port on the camcorder. Also, you can save up to 4 network configuration profiles in the camcorder so it will keep them in memory. The Browser Remote function for remotely operating the camcorder will not save clips real-time. However, those clips can be transferred later using FTP File Transfer. For more help with this, feel free to reach out to our support team at Canon.us/ContactYT We hope this helps!

    Can you set up the camera to be a client on a wifi network so we may control more than 1 camera at a time via different Network IP's?

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  6 років тому

      Hi Sautez! The Browser Remote function used to control the camera requires a direct connection between the camera and one Wi-Fi enabled device, where the camera serves as the access point. Only one connection can be made at any given time. We hope this answers your question.

    • @sautez
      @sautez 6 років тому +1

      It does. Are there any plans to enable the browser control by allowing the camera's to join a network? That would be a great benefit when I use multiple cameras and to tune them.

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  6 років тому +1

      While this isn't possible to do using the camera as an access point, there is an alternative that may help. You can connect the camcorder to a network via Ethernet. You can then set a unique identification code and the port the browser remote application will access the camera through. The camcorder ID will appear on the browser remote screen, making it easy to identify which camcorder the browser remote is controlling in case of a multi-camera shooting setup.

    • @sautez

      thanks for the information. I'll see what I can do. Perhaps using another device that converts to to wifi would help my solution. Just would be nice to take advantage of the radio already in the camera in conjunction with the remote features.
