    I would have put some thread locker on the grub screw (you don’t want that to come loose 😮)
    Replacing the bushing on a 100k miles car will most certainly also stop the gear stick from rattling.

      Yeah I would have put some loctite on that grub screw. Had mine back out years ago lol

    Advise to buy two new gaskets or a tube of RTV and have some fresh grease handy for lubing it all up again, loctite the grub screw is a good idea also.
    The 3rd-4th gear bias spring setup can be a bit tricky, make sure the turret is not worn, may take a couple of attempts to get it spot on. My R380 change is much nicer with it fitted, not faster, it is a not a Honda gearbox, a momentary pause in between gears but just a nicer change.

    Never had a problem with the factory setup, if the bias spring is adjusted correct then the throw of the gear lever is nice and tight and positive...I've had defenders all my life and never have i felt the lever needed correcting from manufacture, i have driven one with a short shift fitted and didn't like it at all, to me its a characteristic of the vehicle.

    Just had one of these fitted and it makes such a difference.
    Tight notchy short throw gear shifts.
    Much more like a car.

    Although I bought one of these I really cant see the point of it, being higher geared it make the gear change harder, but shorter and there really is nothing wrong with the factory set up, and the gap between gear positions is closer, we are not using this on a race car. Chris B.

    No gasket on the bottom of the blue Aluminum?

    I was mostly concerned about you getting some oil/crap on that nice carpet.
    I can guarantee I’d find something else wrong with mine whilst doing this upgrade 😱

    Perfectly explained.
    Thanks for sharing.😀

    Gut feeling, looking at the vid is that you've got the new pin set ever so slightly too tight.
    When you let go of gear leaver in neutral it should centre itself between 3 & 4th. But I'm being pedantic.
    Slick shift is a great bit of kit.
    (Oh btw, a touch of light grease in the bowl of the new silicone thingy doesn't hurt either)

    Glad that worked out well, overall it seems to be an easier fit on the Defender than the Disco 1. You don't have to take the whole centre console out for a start.

    I have a technical question sir…
    Need your advise…!
    I own a 110 HT TD5 here in good old Germany 🇩🇪
    And the fuel pump is giving me a bit of a headache… any advise for a replacement..?
    Thx 🙏🏻

      Cut a neat hole in the floor and create an access plate for the fuel pump.

    What is the spring with the nylon head called? Must be able to get a replacement.

    Anyone fitted the Puma version to the MT82. It's an inherently notchy change at the best of times, I was wondering if this mod improved or made the situation worse?

    • @FishFace13
      @FishFace13 Рік тому +1

      Yup, the throw is significantly shorter. Makes it feel a bi t quicker and more concise. At times maybe still a little notchy, but definitely an improvement. Had it in about 8 months and feel like it makes enough of a difference to be worthwhile. The original puma pivoting ball part is nylon and it cracks and deteriorates, but the replacement is all metal,so ready for the next £100k hopefully!
      Having watched this, I’m going to put one on the Defender 300tdi we have as well I feel.

    I would assume you can use this on a discovery

    That look easy, or did you just make it easy. Is the same principles for a Defender 90 1990, Thanks

    I was tempted to get a slick shift but heard that selecting reverse was some times more difficult which put me off. How do you find it selecting reverse?

    • @danielvarela3804
      @danielvarela3804 6 місяців тому

      I installed the slick shift on my 110 td5 and it literally made selecting reverse gear very hard. Going to check installation but I just might put everything as it was originally because of this.

    I would have put a smidge of sealant on the new spacer
