  • For as long as I've been in the physique transformation and weight-loss game this stereotype has been around that overweight folks are just lazy and don't 'really' want to change.
Seems to me this particular biased view is even stronger among fitness professionals although they seldom say it out-loud. I heard this twice in the last week by fitness Coaches who should know better, but clearly do not.
So is true that overweight people are just lazy?
This is my response from a Coach who has been helping people lose weight since the 1980's - So, I think I know a thing or two about the topic.

I used to work long hours doing heavy construction and warehousing, like throwing 5000 boxes a day...and was still obese! You just can't outwork bad food choices. Some people go all out in everything they do, working, playing AND eating.

Great points. Off topic, what do you think about body weight set point theory? I’m in recovery for an eating disorder and my weight has settled in the overweight range. I’ve always been very fit so it’s very challenging to accept the weight gain. I want to be healthy, but don’t want to fall back into the mental prison I was living in.

CC - well bodyweight set point is a real thing for sure. So it is indeed a dilemma to try to lose weight but with a history of ED's - I have an online course called "Food Freedom Course" you may want to check out. But navigating weight-loss with an ED history, almost always requires Coaching in order to not fall into former mental and emotion traps you mention above - as you also mention above - you don't have to accept the weight, as long as you accept yourself - the two are NOT the same thing. Also try my book 'The Anti-Diet Approach to Weight Loss and Weight Control' I'll post a link below as well - there are also other videos on my channel dealing with Food and Eating Issues and such - hope that helps

I have always been fit physically. Because I've always been active the couch wasn't getting used in my house I was out swimming hiking biking fishing constantly on-the-go. The proof that being fat is being lazy what I broke my back I had to stop doing everything that I have been doing my entire life. I do nothing anymore but set on the couch or a chair or in bed I put on 35 lb in 3 years proof setting on your butt makes you fat and lazy getting off your butt makes you healthy in a normal weight and all around Better Health correct
