We're not all the same, Casey. What you think of as a "waste" of time, to other people, keeps them sane. It's like when you run. If someone told you that you running was a complete, utter waste of time that you should spend working or sleeping (4hrs a night is rough), you would tell them to f*ck off. Productivity is great and a necessary part of life and mental health. But for me, solitude is as well. I HAVE to have free time to myself or with someone I love almost every day to stay sane. When I'm on my death bed, I highly doubt I'm going to wish that I was more productive. I will probably wish that I had more time to spend on myself and the people I love.

50 or 60 is old???? Omg...my husband was 64 when we had our first child, 65 when the second one came, and by the time he was 70, he had built an empire that reached the entire world. He's 92 now, and just retired. Don't ever think we get old...our flesh may age but our mind, attitude, and energy can stay with us until the day we die, depending on how we DECIDE to frame our life. Boredom is a killer, thanks Casey for bringing this up.

They are both 31 and 29 now and have had a really rich life with their dad up until about 4 years ago, when he started to really slow down. So yea, time and experience combined with a lot of FUN AND LOVE is by far more important than age differences. I know this is an old Vlog but to anybody stumbling across this video and trying out this schedule remember that you should never cut down your sleep. Free time might be the enemy of progress but sleep deprevation is the enemy of health.
You need a minimum of 7 hours per night, not to be awake mentally but to minimize your risks of causing serious damage to your physical and mental health. Some of the risks of regular sleep deprevation include, heart failure, strokes, depression and high blood pressure. Also, even if you feel awake it s a fact that the quality of the work you do in a sleep deprived state suffers as well.
You want to have a long life, not just to get a lot of work done but also to be able to enjoy the fruits of your labor and for that you need to be healthy. Stayin healthy is not difficult, all you need is 7 hours of sleep, some exercise (it doesn't have to be 3 hours but it s ofc not bad XD) and a balanced diet. If you deprive yourself of sleep you are actively working towards an early death and you can t work when you are dead.
So yeah, ironically if you say to yourself "I can sleep when I'm dead" you aren t actually gaining time by sleeping less. You are losing time.

    • @wattson451
      @wattson451 2 роки тому +2

I had the same idea. I will never sacrifice anything for sleep. If my sleep is compromised, it will affect my progress. 6 hours is the bare minimum for me. I might have a 4 hour sleep day but I will supplement with a 2 hour or 2 one hour naps. I respect Casey’s style, but it’s very unhealthy.

It's amazing seeing a video like this in 2021 after watching Casey's current interviews on how this level of hustle both built him the best life he could imagine, and also almost ruined his marriage, prevented him from being present with his daughters, and completely killed his social life. Seeing him retire in his mid 30s worth millions to focus on the fam I'd say the end justified the means, but this was a sprint pace, not a marathon.

He does make it seem like he had it together though in this and really throughout the vlog you never really doubted that he was struggling. The dude made it look effortless. I appreciate his honesty now and he’s made many videos on the ‘price’ of the hustle/ being a UA-camr. In retrospect the vlog set him for life, so I totally agree it was worth the sacrifice. Was just about to comment something similar. Essentially it did work but it was a gamble and it's so tiresome that some people seem to think it's a permanent lifestyle choice. Even putting aside how you slow down with age, this level of intensity can't be sustained for more than a few years. Also, interesting watching this straight after another vid from 2018 where he talks about his schedule and even then the work hours have dropped considerably, he no longer works late at night and the fitness hours are down to like one a day. He's still operating on like six hours sleep but that's a huge change from four hours.

If you vlog, you'll know it is a lot harder than it seems. Plus with his company, his family, and all the extra stuff he does I am surprised he makes them as good as he does. But you are right the old ones are a little more put together, they are still good nevertheless though.

I dont know if higher quality are the right words for it. Its different- this whole episode is just a bit. And i know he said that this particular episode was gonna be a little different, but i feel like a bunch of his older ones were just him talking or telling a story or something like that. And trust me i love those and thats why i come to watch these old ones every once in a while, but i really think i prefer the crazy, jam packed, always moving, awesome Casey days. Thats just a personal preference. But I wouldnt say they are lower quality.

They've found a gene that predisposes some people to needing less sleep. So some people have hit the genetic lottery and can get less than 6 hours of sleep and still feel the same level of energy and alertness the rest of us get needing with 7+ hours a night.

No, not it's not just something generic like "motivation." Some people physiologically need less sleep than the rest of us because of their favorable genetics. Because of a certain gene variant that regulates circadian rhythms there's about 5% of the population that only needs 6 hours or less a night to feel fully rested. Casey is almost certainly one of those people.

I haven't looked into it, but apparently people go in and out of deep sleep, every 1.5 hrs or so of their sleep cycle. When I go to sleep at 12/1am and wake up for work at 5pm - I would feel just the same as when I went to sleep at 10pm... I would wake up feeling like complete crap, but 5mins later I'm wide awake. Actually I don't like this attitude at all. It does not matter how much money you make or how successful you are. Putting the camera aside rather than just pushing it makes sense. I did just watch a peanut butter solution for a broken lens cap. Didn't that take some extra time that could have gone to work/family etc. ? How about buying all this new canon camera that broke? Based on the story he was telling about the financial situation while growing up, this whole behavior seems odd for me. Yes, not giving a damn seems cool, but it is not always the case.

There are very few people who can function properly on 6 hours sleep. A lot of people think that they can but they’re actually not at peak performance and they are at higher risk of long term health complications like dementia. So 4 hours of sleep is just ridiculous and unhealthy, guy needs to chill out

when this video came out, I was a kid wanting to understand Casey's passion and try to understand what this guy was saying. Even down to when he talked about his time working as a dishwasher... my version of that was trying to stay in school for nursing, but at the same time, my passion was Photography/Cinematography. I only had a year left of nursing school and I better on myself to become a full-time creative. 5 years later after watching videos like this, I can finally say that my passion happens to be my job. I love this career and waking up knowing this has been the best feeling.. I've come to realize all the hardships I had to go through to make sure that this was a part of my livelihood and it's been finally paying off.
Casey, I don't know how much time you take on comments, but videos like this have given me a new understanding now (esp. with COVID-19 hitting the world) I've watched. UA-cam since I was a kid in 2006-2007 at that time UA-cam was so pure, and seeing your videos early in that time has definitely let me know that this career path was truly possible.

Well im a student, so in my free time i don't do shit. I'll have 40-50 years of worklife to contribute to humanity by beeing a teacher.
Also, i love casey and his videos, but believing that you "just need to find something you love and make money from it" is a bit arrogant and ignorant. 95% of jobs suck. Thats just a fact.
Working 7 to 12 hours a day in a boring ass white collar office job sucks. Working in mines, sweatshops, oilrigs, freighters and garbageservices suck. There are very few jobs in the entire world that are objectively enjoyable or fun, that is shitty, but its still a fact. So most people have to work jobs they don't enjoy and thats not changable, it simply isn't. So it's understandable that when for the absolute majority of people in the world half their waketime is spent with something they loathe, "free time" is a very, very precious rescource.

Rumplelumpa Snickerdoodles just because you're stuck in s dead end Job or whatever your situation is doesn't mean you cannot be productive during the hours of "free time" you have. If half of your wake-time is occupied by doing things you loathe, should try and change that.
With the remaining hours of wake time you have, you can fill it with productivity and maybe eventually more and more of your wake time can be enjoyable

I agree with you Casey, You have to make the most of life and spend every single second doing something productive. Way to many people are perfectly content sitting around waiting for things to happen to them and life isn't like that at all.
That's partly the reason why I started Daily Vlogging, it gives me an excuse to always have something to say, to always be able to tell an interesting story. With that being said, if anyone would like to keep up with a daily vlogger and share some insight with me on how I'm doing so far, I'd really appreciate it if you took a look at some of them! My goal is to reach at least 2k subs by June :)

Well I mean this would be excluding fun and free time. I think that having a minimum of 3 hours per workday dedicated to your family is incredibly fair, especially considering the rest of his schedule. It`s not like the average person would come home after their 9-5 and spend the entirety of their 4/5 hours home dedicated to their family(This would expect that children or other family members would be going to sleep at around 10). Most would use this period of time after work for fun and for free time, something Casey does not. This is assuming they work a job where no work follows them home, and their commute to work is short enough. I doubt that even working a 9-5 the average person would spend 3 hours completely dedicated to their family. I thought it was pretty clear in the video that it's not like Casey doesn't care about his family, but the truth is is that work pays their bills, and it's unfair to expect anyone to be able to spend all day, every day with their families.

Skarth the only thing with this is, how long do you think Candace spends with the baby? Probably a whole lot more time than Casey, yet she works to. She has no choice but to make time in his absence. If two people decide to have a child together, they should both put in the same time. A child needs both the mother and father and if you're lucky enough to have both present, they should make an effort to BOTH be there equally for the child to have a good balance.

DiscoverWithDima I don’t agree with this at all. Living your life trying hard to leave behind some sort of “legacy” instead of enjoying life is an unhealthy mindset in my opinion. As Ferris Bueler once said “life moves quick and if you don’t stop to look around, you might miss it.” 🙂 Also that’s definitely a bad idea to only sleep for 4 hours and is bad for general health.

I love your vlogs, all you care about is making quality videos, You don't care about how many likes you get or how many subscribers you have. You could easily triple your views and subscriptions if you change your video titles and thumbnails. For example the 'met gala', you could have put Justin Bieber in the thumbnail and written something like 'chilling with Justin BIEBER before the met gala!!!!' but you don't. That is why I love your videos. Also because the people here (your subscribers) are all here to enjoy quality vlogs, I feel like this is an exclusive spot on UA-cam for people who just want to enjoy a nice vlog,Without all the bate thumbnails and all the fake stuff. thank you!

As the daughter of a pereptual workaholic similar to Casey I can tell you this....
The time my dad DID spend with me, i valued to no end. The couple of hours a day i would get are so memorable, precious, and treasured. At a time, I did resent that he didnt have more time with us....it made me feel like i wasnt AS important as HIS work. But im over that, now that im 25 and "wiser". I do however, value the concept that i have of work ethic because of him, because due to that, im going places and after what i want.
Point of story, no matter how many hours you give to Francine and Owen, make them as amazing as you can.
