Stevie gets the spot light obviously but his drummer and bass player are steady as a fucking boulder. Hats off to double trouble!!!
They were Stevie's music's backbone!!!
BrainStorm4207 that's cos they were Johnny Winter's musicians ! SRV double trouble was Johnny Winter's band , and Johnny Winter is to me one of the greatest ever with SRV
Just Tommy Shannon, Chris never was with Johnny
I wish Hendrix had had a drummer and bass player to match Double Trouble.
Got to have major talent to keep up with srv
He plays behind his back for damn near half the set, breaks the third string (actually, it was the fourth string, thank you SpikeyTarantula) near the end, keeps playing, then takes the guitar off, puts it on the ground, flips it around, and keeps producing some of the most awesome sounds ever generated from an axe.
There are people who play the guitar, and then there are those who WIELD a guitar. And Stevie Ray Vaughan was, hands down, one of the best to ever wield a guitar.
Rest in peace, S.R.V., and thank you.
Fourth string*
+SpikeyTarantula, you are absolutely correct. It was the fourth string that broke. Thank you, I appreciate it.
1destined He just said, "Fuck it, I'll just play bass".
Was and Is, SRV lives forever
Me and Adrian still know his best performance was Live at El Mochambo - Texas Flood.
That was barely human.
The dude was from another planet.
He played half the song with the guitar behind his back...broke a string towards the end...and it was all effortless! HE'S A GUITAR GOD!
And with action as high as a lap steel.
He could literally play blind folded with both hands tied behind his back using a broken guitar better than 99% of musicians....
No artist covered another artist the way Stevie Ray Vaughan covered Jimi Hendrix. He found the same wavelength that Jimi discovered and he did Jimi complete justice. Nothing but absolute respect.
AMEN! AMEN! AMEN!
whenever srv covered jimi it always felt like a tribute, one legend to another.
Well said

Imagine if Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn had an axe battle
It would tear a hole in the space time continuum and life as we know it would cease to exist.
I sometimes wonder what it would be like if Hendrix could come back and see what happened since he was gone. I'm pretty sure he would be impressed with a bunch of guitarists that have come after him, not just SRV. I bet he would also like to get his hands on a guitar with a floyd rose tremelo system with a locking nut, humbuckers, and just imagine blowing his mind with the crazy amount of digital and computer effects we have now!

I don't care what you listen to, if you love music, then you've got to love Stevie Ray Vaughn.
If Jimi had made it another 20 years, wouldn't it have been badass to see the two of them on stage together tearing that song up?

Thats a good think.
They are doing it together right now probably

You both will always be remembered as legends.

@@sykoe360 it seems so
Stevie was inspired by Fats Domino with his blues, and Jimi Hendrix'sways with playing music is so talented and unheard of these days. Miss em all.
(Trivia) Who wrote all along the watchtower that Jimi Hendrix sang? I will give u his initials B.D.
I wondered if either could have become technically better than they already were. It's hard to fathom if it were possible, but considering what they did in their short lives, they likely would have done something we still haven't seen or heard.

I was lucky enough to see SRV three times back in the day. One was a private session with maybe fifty people present in a private room. I was fifteen to twenty feet and to this day... I get all emotional about SRV. Some days it rips my heart out and I have to turn it off. Other days it brings me back to life and lifts my soul into the stars.
I saw him at KC '87 and had no tickets so made my way in the stage door where it was propped open as someone was fixing a tire on the bus... about an hour an half before the concert... fabulous thunderbirds warming up and got to see all the warmups. Eveyrone thought I was with the band at that point. Ended up on 2nd row middle!....just kept moving until found seats where nobody showed up. Everyone was just mesmerized. Stevie and his brother played an encore on a double necked guitar.

Joe Satriani said of this song: "It's just the greatest piece of electric guitar work ever recorded. In fact, the whole song could be considered the holy grail of guitar expression and technique. It is a beacon of humanity." Santriani said that about the original by Hendrix. For me, SRV is the only one who has come close to the true spirit of the original and whose is the only other version I'll listen to. No stupid 'who played it better' comments, please. This is homage, not a competition.
I love Stevie’s studio version of voodoo child, but Nobody come near to the master Hendrix himself when it come to improvising live, especialy on those kind of song like voodoo child or thing like Machine Gun. Why people keep talking about ""the best"" with everything..??
How is this dude better tan Hendrix, Gibbons, Blackmore, Malmsteem, Van Halen, Satriani, Vai, etc..?? No one is better :S:S
+Jimi Yes, of course... Malmsteen, Van Halen, Satriani... Influenced by Hendrix..?? Of course, in a way, but not really... They don´t sound annything like Hendrix (Satriani: Eric Johnson.. Malmsteem: Richie Blackmore...), and they don´t use the same techniques... Also, Hendrix sounds like a lot of previous famous guitar players, too... Seriously, look that up.
+jimi Yes, I am a musician, I am in three bands right now, and Im a guitar teacher (and I know A LOT of songs by Hendrix and Satriani). You can say whatever you want fool, but Satriani sounds exactly like Eric Johnson... ua-cam.com/video/15eu7ar5EKM/v-deo.html
And Johnson doesn´t sound annything like Hendrix. Please, there were guitar players doing tapping and all kinds of stuff before Hendrix was 12...
+jimi Not so heavily, dumbass... They doesn´t sound or play like Hendrix to me... Not one bit :S:S All what Im saying is there is not such thing as a ""best guitar player ever"" or a guitar player who ""has influenced everybody..."" Hendrix was dope, tho... xDxD

@@olivermiller8943 I don't think the string gauge mattered a whole lot. My favorite time period of Stevie's was right at the end. The summer of 1990 shows are my personal favorite. He was mostly playing 11's at that point and was primarily using Fender amps. His tone grew a whole new attitude!!
It’s also that Dumble amp you see in the beginning. There’s a reason they’re going for hundreds of thousands of USD nowadays

God damn you can tell in some of these shots Stevie's action was stupidly high. Not to mention he was probably playing on 12s or 13s here. Talk about man hands
R Douglas I have a quote saved somewhere from ray Martinez , where he reference SRV playing 13-58's most commonly but would go as big as 18-74.....lol...occasionally I get brave and try 11's or 12's , and it's not long after I can't wait till they wear out lol......18's though!? are never going to go onto my guitars 😜
Liam Burke wow that's insane. will a stock fender nut and bridge even hold an 18??
Liam Burke I'm sure there's some filing goin on for sure hehe
he must've had diamond fingertips
Liam Burke I've seen him play Texas Flood live on an acoustic 12 string and not skip a lick or miss a bend
I'll second everything great thing said about Stevie, but got to add his backing band are straight up killers . Stevie never did the same thing twice, and would take the energy up and down at will , and those Cats were ready to follow him at the drop of a hat. If you pay attention you can see them constantly watching him, waiting to see if he was going back to the mic for another vocal or going to extend whatever solo he was playing. And they are improvising as well when it fits, filling in the frequencies when needed ,flipping the beat, it really is impressive .
I don't know if Stevie ever had an off day... Every single time you see him play a live show, he is just 100% immersed in his playing, the instrument becomes a part of him; no thought, just pure emotion in music.
I'm sure the whiskey and coke helped *sniffle*
