I want him to build a fireplace into my home and appear in a leather chair every time I drink any lagavulin. Then he can be my dad and teach me how to make chairs and shit.
@@trentirvin2008 I read somewhere that he already liked Lagavulin before they wrote it into the show so this is a product that he actually cares about unlike a lot of other celebrity booze.
Why are you watching a whisk(e)y show and complaining about acoustics. This ain't Adele, I can hear them fine. When life was analog, we didn't really care
@@JointFive I was just pointing out what I was hearing to those that produced it, as I know they care about their production. I wasn't complaining, just letting them know. My point has been validated as the sound was much improved with their next post, over 360 days ago. If they didn't change it, I would still be watching their channel as I appreciate the information they present and how they present it.
Received a bottle of Lagavulin 16 as a wedding gift, and I absolutely love it! Had a bottle of the GoT Lagavulin 9 to help me power through the last season of GoT, and I loved that as well. Last trip to the liquor store I saw they have Lagavulin 8, GoT 9, 11, and 16. Islay is my go to scotch. I'll have to check and see if the 11 is the special one, might have to get a bottle :D
Just bought this bottle today. The last Lagavulin I tried was the 8yo Game Of Thrones Edition. I wasn't all that impressed but my tastes have changed, and I've been on an Islay kick for over a month now. The Offerman edition is fantastic! Very balanced and delicious. Still not able to justify the price of Lagavulin, though. I could get an Ardbeg 10 and a Wee Beastie for the same price. Guess I'll have to reserve this for special occasions.
For some reason, I was under the impression that this would come in a nice wooden box for this special edition. I was happy when my two bottles arrived, was disappointed that they are in cardboard boxes. Still pleased with what is in the bottle, but as a woodworker myself was really looking forward to a wooden box. I guess I now need to make one.
Having watched many “Ralfydotcom” whisky reviews of the “monumental mainland malt mate” of Scotland, he likes to point out how great single malts that come in simple cardboard packaging are just superb. But I get what you’re saying; for a collectible it would be just that-collectible!
I want to think you guys! I've always been a bourbon guy. I do HVAC and a customer of mine makes bourbon so good that it ruined all other bourbon. So I had to try something else. I am sold out for Lagavulin thanks to your wisdom! Thanks guys! Cheers!
Was on Islay last year on a cycle trip, soaked to the bone, tried to get in to see Laphroaig Distillery but was fully booked so went to Lagavulin (just up the road from Laphroaig) went on the tour which was ,as you Americans say, awesome, at the end they gave you a wee nip of the Lagavulin 16 ,which is now my nip of choice if someone else buying, a wee glass of room temp water ,either to be added or sipped to clear pallet adds to the experience. Got ferry to Jura (where Orwell wrote 1984) and cycled up to the distillery, soaked to the marrow, drinking a peaty whisky on the Scottish islands when the sky and landscape are black the rain is lashing and the wind howling is metaphysical.
1700 bottles ...and I thought my 250 was going somewhere. Well done what an investment. Great review, especially the lineup 12, 11, 16 yr. The 12 is a monster
Old Forrester 100. An absolutely beautiful budget bourbon. It is my new "go to" bourbon for sipping. Ewbib for mixing, old Forrester for daily sipping and eagle rare, four roses single barrel, and a plethora of others for nice whiskey- centric night.
Lagavulin 16 one of my favorites....wish I could try that 11. I think the answer to the guy's "what should I brink to the snob meeting" is spot on. Angel Envy might have been a good choice for the bourbon.
When is see the (e) used in Whisky I die a little inside. Scottish malts the best in the world. My grandmother would give me a wee sip when I was a bairn. Loved it ever since.
Thank you for that review I am currently looking to get a bottle of Lagavulin for my stepfather for Christmas but I don't have any opportunity to test any of them so I really appreciate your review today
There needs to be a funnel in the bung hole leading to an infinity bottle, and every episode a sacrifice to the Great Bung Hole must be made, in turn creating the most glorious infinity bottle that could ever exist.
I recommend store picks for a balling on a budget tasting. You can get store picks for under $70 that are good. A Four Roses, BT, or Whitmeyers store pick can be found for $49-59$. You are bringing something others have tried but with a new spin.
If I'm bringing bourbon to a gathering, I generally bring either Wild Turkey 101 or Elijah Craig Single Barrel if it's a casual gathering and either a WL Weller or Blanton's if it's a nicer occasion.
So I have to ask Daniel because I can never get a definitive answer. Why are some bottles different abv in different countries. Like Laphroaig 10 is 40% in the UK, but 43% in the US. Why is that?
Tought it had something to do with saving money on tax for some country. Might be something else tough like preferences in alcohol in some countries. Great question enjoy the rest of your day.
I feel you could work on the background lighting blending as it looks a bit like a green screen behind you. Also picking up a bit of room echo and it feels less personal oddly. Otherwise I'm loving the new video.
Theres something about this whisky I really love. I started drinking it and within the first hour, half the bottle was gone. Not sure if this is a good thing or not
Great episode timing, just 3 days AFTER I try the Offerman side-by-side with 12yr. While good, the 12yr remains the best scotch experience for me. My advice for the partygoer with potential whisk(e)y snobs: Bring Benchmark 8 in an unmarked craft store bottle, and claim it was from the personal collection of your grandpa. Nvm, that may be a bad idea. Just bring what you like, and keep friends with the ones who appreciate it.
The lighting for the new vault shots is way better! Decent kicker light and everything. Next focus can be to tighten up the sound. It sounds like there is some combfiltering happening (shotgun mic indoors maybe). A solution would be a hypercardiod condenser mic. Also a sound blanket on the floor where you are standing and some cheap acoustic foam directly behind the mic will substantialy reduce the reverb. Also, I love the huge leap in production quality (I have to take you guys a little more seriously now).
Love what I've seen of the new vault! Great pick for the first Vault 2.0 whisky review. 3 things immediately jumped out at me. 1) It's interesting/somewhat-appropriate how Rex's (first?) instance willingly sharing a whisk(e)y is not with any person.... but with a bunghole... 2) Two episodes with Vault 2.0, and I'm already kinda missing the outro toast! 3) Daniel... seriously?!?!? 1700+ whisk(e)ys?!?!?!?!
Traveling through the Stargate, sharing whisk(e)y with the inhabitants of other galaxies? This is the most magnificent thing you have ever magnificently done you magnificent bastards!
Wow I haven’t been staying current with your videos lately but the new vault looks amazing. Nicely done...love how Daniel does his eyebrow raises when you bastardized Someone.
I have the Lagavulin Charred Oak Cask Offerman Edition with the scotch and wine barrels and I swear the nose is Latakia. If you enjoy Ten Russian's or Maltese Falcon pipe tobacco you will love this Scotch.
Great to see the new vault, wonder where you will go next, Virginia maybe, sometime - just a hint guys. Also, will there be a virtual tour so we can see our sponsored shelf? PS: the audio sound smaller in the bigger space - more echo too. Hope you land well.
is that shelf up, that was supposed to have the cornerstones of each whisky category on it? as someone who is still kinda new to whisky, am looking forward to a video on that.
For a not too pricey Bourbon, I prefer Maker’s mark for my manhattans and other such cocktails, but for easy sips I won’t turn away woodford since it’s generally more refreshing.
2 things. First, you need to fix your lighting so it doesn't look like you are in front of a green screen. Second, get some acoustic panels and fix your echo.
I immediately thought of ECSB as well. It is classic bourbon experience done extremely well for very little cash. I know everybody loves it but the Four Roses is just too sweet for me personally.
"Where's the bourbon section." "Over there." [Spends five minutes talking, staring at empty doorway off camera.] Yay! Glad you guys liked the "dependent" joke. Lots of whiskey dependency here.
I was hoping Nick Offerman would just step in and mooch his own Whiskey

too bad Offerman is a real douche
I love how the special effects for the current tribe are just as good, if not better, than older Dr who episodes
You've had too much Lagavulin
What about the newest ones
Solid first whisky for vault 2.0!
Rex was spot on I took a Buffalo trace barrel selection from my local store! Awesome new vault btw!!
What about Angel's Envy? Could it fit the requirements?
Full disclosure the tasting was back in September it was a good time
Is this basically Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Whiskey Adventures?
I like the new room/backdrop, it's like the channel just grew up a little more...
Just opened my bottle of the offerman edition 11 year aged bottle and my god it's my new favorite whiskey. The smokiness in this whiskey is amazing.
It’s really cool to see nick offermans whiskey actually be really fucking good haha
@Trent Irvin the show parks and recreations really sold me on this bottle because this was all Nick Offerman drank on that show lol
@@trentirvin2008 I read somewhere that he already liked Lagavulin before they wrote it into the show so this is a product that he actually cares about unlike a lot of other celebrity booze.
@@aniquinstark4347 yes that is true, the 16 is Nicks favorite
Acoustic tiles for the ceiling maybe? Picking up a bit of tinny echo. Love the bunghole of knowledge!

A gobo or two to drop outside of the frame on camera right would also help a great deal.

The sound is so different in the new vault. Almost sounds like you are in a warehouse.
