    The incredibly smoky flavor is what grabs me in the charred oak cask. A very addictive pour.

      I absolutely agree! That charred oak really goes well with the Lagavulin style. Cheers 🥃

      Most people prefer the Guinness Cask and many don’t like the CO at all. I don’t get it. CO is my favorite of the 3. Like them all though.

      @@utoobia Yeah they're all good. I do like the Guinnes cask but I think the CO really makes the Lagavulin spirit shine. Thanks for joining 😃🥃

    Excellent review. I have had several Lagavulin editions and the Lagavulin charred oak is a favorite along with the Lag 16. Of the many Islay whiskies, Ardbeg Uigeadail and Lagavulin 16 are among my favorites. However, your review showcases the exceptional Lag 11 which I would place in the top three Islays'.

      @thewhiskyenthusiast  Рік тому

      Uigeadail and the Lag 16 are solid whiskies, I do like them a lot. Of the three Offermans my pick is the charred one as I feel it goes better with the Lagavulin house style but the others are decent drams as well. Cheers!

    Thank you for this comparison review, it's quite helpful! I'm also still able to find the heavily re-charred cask edition on the shelves currently in Texas and plan to give it a try sometime soon.

      You're most welcome, glad you enjoyed it 😃🥃 Yes that one is still available and somewhat affordable so I would get it. I think you'll like it! Cheers 🥃

    Thanks, mate. Your review is actually very useful for me. In my market (Aussie), I have access to all three Offermans from my local sample slinger. So I think I'll buy No. 3, the Charred Oak. Şerefe.

    Great comparison between the three, have only tried the ex-Guinness cask which was pretty solid but not mind blowing. Will see if I can dig out the Charred cask next. Cheers!

      Thanks mate! Yeah they're all good but not incredible. The charred oak suits the Lagavulin house style the best in my opinion 🥃

    The charred oak expression is a beautiful whisky. It pairs well with steak and a caramel dessert. Has peat smoke that approaches Ardbeg territory but backs off at the right point. Cheers!

      Yeah out of all of this series I think the charred oak best fit the Lagavulin profile. Peat and heavily charred oak goes together beautifully. Glad you enjoyed it, cheers 🥃

    Great to see these reviewed side by side. I've only tried the first edition (which I liked) but have heard others say the second and third editions were dissapointing compared to the first. Really interesting to see you had the opposite impression. You're right though, given the price and limited availability, better to try before you buy if that's an option.

    • @thewhiskyenthusiast
      @thewhiskyenthusiast  Рік тому +2

      That is interesting but it's all personal taste isn't it. The prices are ridiculous, especially the first release as there's less and less of it. This is why whisky clubs are so important, as you can sample whiskies at a fraction of the price and then make an informed decision. Cheers 🥃

    Definitely agree with the conclusion. Really liked the third edition, found the second a bit disappointing (figured I’d love it cuz Guinness is my favourite beer but nope), and the first was meh at best.

      Well I agree exactly with what you said 😃 I really wanted the Guinness one to be super creamy and add layers to the spirit but it just was OK. Thanks for watching 🥃

    Well done! I really like lagavulin 16 maybe my favorite but the charred oak offerman edition i just picked up is pretty good but hits a little harder. I don't have any 16 to compare right now - i love the peatyness of 16 any suggestions for others i should try greatly appreciated.

    • @thewhiskyenthusiast
      @thewhiskyenthusiast  11 місяців тому

      Thank you for your input! Yeah the Charred Oak doesn't have the sophistication of the 16 both because it's younger and the effects of a heavily charred oak. It does hit harder for me as well but in a rounded way rather than the younger and brasher feeling of the 8. I think if you enjoy Lagavulin 16, you should look into Laphroaig 16 to compare. When you go younger in Lagavulin it becomes a complete different dram from the 16. Cheers 🥃
