    Unwatchable.
    Why would you choose a live version of a song you’ve never heard?
    You have no idea which parts are true to the original or are being freestyled, the sound quality is NEVER as good as the original studio version, and all the details from the original which are what makes a song.

      Yo. He actually addresses this by the end if the first verse and switches to studio audio. Insightful analysis and genuine appreciation follows. Give it a second shot.

    Saturn rotates around the sun once every 27-29 years. Roughly dividing a human lifetime into thirds, childhood, middle age, and old age. Many believe this is Maynard's way of describing growth and wisdom. Hopefully, when Saturn comes round again, we'll all be a little wiser and more mature.

    Yep! That scream is real, he occasionally does it live but generally not as long these days as it takes a lot of work to nail it, unsure if they’ve mentioned the process of it or how many takes it took, but it’s definitely real.

      He's changed the way he sings most songs live. It's one of the main reasons he still has a voice. If he did Ticks and Leeches live a few more times he probably would have had to retire a decade ago.

    24:00 Not only does Maynard hold the scream for over 25 seconds, but it's in tune the entire time.

    I appreciate the concept of your channel. I'm a chaplain (atheist, weird I know) at a level I trauma center. We are educated in all the main theories (selfobject, transference, projection, family systems, etc). I have TOOL
    in presentations to my cohort and as a point of resonance with patients and clinicians (I wear their shirts when I round). TOOL has been very important in my spiritual formation post deconversion. And their song 46 & 2 really helped me on my way with shadow work (Jung) and accepting the harder parts of my late life diagnosis of autism. I'm glad you're reaching out for things you've missed. Now it's time to spiral out. Lateralus!

    Great Reaction! So glad you dropped the live version and went to the album. Tool music videos are awesome! Super creative and directed by Adam Jones (Guitarist), but...for reacting they are very distracting to the music and lyrics. A Saturn return is when the planet returns to position it was in when you were born (about 28 years). It is a representation of maturity, are you ready to make better choices? You've been here for 28 years, time to buck up. "Choose 1 or 10", in your next cycle choose low values or higher values. Next you should try 46 and 2, it is about Jung Shadow integration. For me, the entire Tool catalog is therapy! Spiral out🌀🌀🌀

    I want to clarify on the video / no video / live video. There official videos are amazing in their own right BUT they can be distract from the music. That is why many will suggest NOt doing the videos for the first viewing.
    Live video's - Tool has a strict NO recording policy at their shows because they really want the audience to be present in the moment with them. I for one DO NOT like to watch reactions to poor quality phone videos. They spend a great deal of time working in engineering the official audio. So that is THE best place to hear the song as they envisioned it.
    There are a few exceptions to the live reactions these are as follows:
    ua-cam.com/video/FssULNGSZIA/v-deo.htmlsi=SyrJ1gxJqs184twI - Drum Cam professionally recorded and amazing
    ua-cam.com/video/A3X3Im2YoL8/v-deo.htmlsi=_twC6a9beas0b99N - A video made to illustrate the official LIVE album release of Third Eye (Album name: Salival) Audio is from the album synced with video by a fan.
    ua-cam.com/video/u7lweNCCwS0/v-deo.htmlsi=3TYGvCL3IbcGLZmn - A professional live recording of them from 1993 Reading Festival

    There are numerous subtexts to the Saturn references that have to do with things like spiritual rebirth, etc., but the biggest connection seems to be that Saturn orbits every 27 years, and that 27 year cycle represents major shift points in many humans’ lives, points at which people’s life situations often change - 27 years of age, 54 years, and 81. So, Saturn coming round again reflects these life moments that offer the opportunity to grow or evolve, hopefully including letting go of your grudges.
    Similarly, the “one” and “ten” references apparently refer to positions of the chakras (? I’ve heard this, but I don’t know a lot about it?)
    Cheers!

    Great reaction once you got the official audio! Very quick to pickup on the themes. They specifically want their music to be open to interpretation. Maynard (singer and lyricist) is a type of renaissance man he is actually in 3 bands (Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer)

  • @menotyou8369
    @menotyou8369 6 місяців тому

    Maynard has full reign over the lyrics, and he is well versed in many things.

    There are many misconceptions about this song. I saw many of them throughout the comments. This song is one of many songs that Maynard wrote about his mom. Saturn's orbit around the sun takes approximately 10,000 days. Clutch it like a corner stone is in reference to Judith's unwavering faith. The Scarlett Letter is in reference to people suggesting her illness was due to sin, which caused some of those from her congregation to shun her. Wear your grudge like a crown is referring to the holier than thou attitude of her accusers. The stone is a metaphor for holding a grudge.

  • @LanceThompsonKssooner
    @LanceThompsonKssooner 6 місяців тому +3

    Saturn's cycle is the astrological symbol for Karma and can also represent when people reach maturity somewhere around 27 years-old. He was going for 27 seconds on the scream. The stone is something that weighs you down (like an anchor). It can also be a reference to the philosopher's stone from Alchemy, which was sought to transmute metal, usually lead (as in leaden Grudges), into gold.

    The videos are a distraction, i think, its best just to do a lyric videos. Live ones are mostly recorded on cell phones so quality of sound isn't very good. If you actually heard them live its not the same sound as this video. PS. Some lyric videos have wrong lyrics i have found. And as i right this you switched. ✌️

      generally against the wishes of the band at that, unless it's the last few songs of the performance when filming is welcome, lol
      this video does no justice to what the actual live experience is.
