Haha, I bought almost the same exact setup a few years ago. $125 5.9, SM Intake, reground cam, and Hughes spring kit. I bought a microsquirt setup but also have a Holley Sniper efi I'm going to use instead. Later I picked up a 5.2 and 518 od out of a wrecked truck for $60. Now I'm thinking about that smaller engine/trans instead for better fuel milage in my 73 Dart. I BET YOU'LL FINISH YOUR PROJECT FIRST even though I had a 3 yr head start. 😂 👍💪
Aw man I can't wait to see how the bomb cycle runs/explodes down the track and maybe it'll produce some really good numbers for you regardless of what happens, if it makes it without exploding good numbers or if it explodes maybe it will blast you across the finish line at 300mph and 2.3 sec et. 🤣😂🤣 it would be the world's fastest drag truck. That motor does look really good and I do expect it will run good and get better numbers than the 318 hopefully after all of the work that you put into it 🤣😂🤣 You're a true car guy , while everyone is looking for cheap Christmas gifts you're looking for cheap performance parts for your cars, that cracked me up when you said that because I could see you doing that 😂🤣😂🚙💨💨💨💨

I think that since it was in a 2000 truck it was a computer controlled engine (well power train) which means that engine spent much of its life under 2000 RPM (it’s not broken in yet). My wife’s ’93 D150 5.2 has over 320,000 miles and that engine is sound.
Excellent! I’m anxious to see how it rolls and goes! Would you consider a 1” spacer on it? It picked my truck up with the air gap. It’d be a fun test. Do you have a carb picked yet? Also do you have to run mufflers, or can you get away with collectors and extensions?
Thanks for watching! I have spacers and we'll be tweaking, of course. I will be running the carb from the 318 to start. I run mufflers, in general I drive my cars down to the track and run them as I drove them. True street form.

Good vid as always. Thanks for sharing. I am looking to swap my 5.2 magnum for a 5.9 in my 96 ram 1500. I don't know if you have an answer for my question. But here it goes anyway. Will the 5.9 run on my 5.2 ECM? Or will I have to swap the ECM from the truck that I am taking the 5.9 out of. I'm not sure how this works. Because I have had to replace the ECM in my 1500. And it had to be programed for my truck. I had to send them the vin# and wait two weeks for the new ECM.
What thickness of head gaskets did you use on this build? Doing something very similar for my 78 dodge truck. Have you checked cranking psi? My cam is a Hughes with almost the same specs. Debating on .028 or .039 gaskets. Love the channel!
I did the 4 barrel swap on my old dodge it’s got the 318, I want to squeeze as much power out of it as I can and I’ve been looking at cams and heads and was wondering if you had any recommendations? I’ve taken all your advice and it’s helped a lot so I figure I’d ask again, thanks! Also the bomb cycle is looking awesome I can’t wait for the next couple vids👍🏽
I would go to the heads next. Not sure what your budget is, but a good valve job, minor port work, maybe even cut them .030 if using the over-the-counter head gaskets. Maybe consider swapping on magnum heads with a cam swap. Keep the cam on the smaller end...
@@318willrun probably last question haha but do they also call the oil through lifters “hydraulic flat tapper” lifters? I’m looking at a Howard cam kit and that’s the lifters that come with the new cam but are those the oil through ones

A great budget build would be a 318 or 360 low comp engine with the ring gaps opened up, and a medium to large Chinese turbo doing mid to low 9s in the 1/4 in a A body

Was considering one of those intakes for my 318, seen some real bad reviews about bad casting and holes, even really hard time putting in the plugs on holes you don't use. Have you had anything bad to deal with yet?
Thanks for watching! I have one on the 318 in Drag Truck and no issues with that one. The one on this 360 fit like a glove as well. As for the plugs, I put them on the grinder to smooth out the knurling except for the very top and added a tad of grey RTV and it worked good.

Sounds like a runner, but I would still drop the pan to re-torque the bearings, rod caps and oil pump...

@@patrickfansler4760 yes, 5.2 and 5.9 magnums have the same exact heads. To do this, you'll have to use oil through push rods and lifters.
