As for the 2017 model I have it and may be biased when i say that by sorting through my small parts collection I can add some extra studs for R2 and the clip on the back for the saber without having to go and by a whole new set first while yes it is good from a play stand point the 2017 model feels great in hand and when built and I would rather have it over the 2023 model
it's a good set the 2023 one, the only thing that kind of upset me are the little circular sticker details on the side. I accidentally put mine on wrong and now the entire wing doesn't look right (that may have been present also on the 2017 one). it could just be me being a crybaby, but honestly I feel like it should have been a print
Verdict: Yep, they’re the same. You have the old one, no need to spend anything on the new one. You don’t have the old one? Still no need to spend anything on the new one.
The newer pieces allowing for a more rounded, sleeker design really gives the new model the edge in my opinion. If it was essentially a rerelease with a new cockpit print, it would be an absolute no from me, but the better shaping really makes me want to pick it up.
For real, I have the 2017 and when I saw his review of the new set I thought he was doing a throwback to the old set. I see hardly anything different on these two sets.
I won't be buying the new version despite it being objectively better because I don't wanna give money to lego for their laziness and overpriced nonsense
I honestly don't see enough of a reason for me to get the new one. The things it improves are only ever so slightly better and you really only notice them if you have both side by side. As someone who buys sets for display, this just isn't worth my money.
I Will always prefer the old one, just because it was my first Star Wars Lego set 🥲 I got the snowspeedrr micro fighter that day as well. Nostalgia hits
They could've put Evil yoda in ... but no ...... Or this green female jedi medic that we saw in this Arc ... but no... Or Count Dooku with his outfit from this Arc... but no..... Or .. Darth Bane but ..nnooo Or even this group of ladies with their Masks of emotions that you could swap.... but NNNOOOOO.... WWHHHyy????
I am not gonna lie, I hadn't notice that before but the cockpit seems to be sticking out a bit too much above the wings on the new one... This might be what it's supposed to be like but I prefer the older one just because of that. Idk it just looks a bit awkward to me.
@@EchoBaseplates That´s exactly what I was thinking, having the older version but replace the window piece with the newer version, so it looks aesthetically better.
i think the position of the starfighters body on the old one looks better to me, it looks lower in the the whole apperance than the new one, witch looks more like sitting on top of the fighter than between the wings. At least from what i've seen so far.
Other than the new windshield piece, and the back printing for R2-D2, I actually prefer almost everything about the 2017 one, but it's all subjective...😊
When it comes to builds, the Star Wars team almost always knocks it out of the park now. The problem is definitely the minifig selection, quantity, and quality. I feel if they nailed those three things these new sets would almost universally be seen as the best in Lego Star Wars history.
All they needed to do was add Darth Bane and it's a home run. I like both, but no reason for me to even get this new one since I have the 2017. R2 sits better too which is the one accurate thing about it vs the new one. The 2017 also looks really good with Anakin's and Obi-Wan's Interceptors flanking it.
Wondering how many people have this set as of 7/24? Just left Walmart with one, there were 2 pallets full of Legos shrink wrapped in the main aisle. I looked through and found a case of these at the very top, so I opened it, walked to self check out and had no problems purchasing it. After knowing I could ring them up without street date issues, (I was holding Yoda’s starfighter and my receipt) I walked back and started looking for the Yavin 4 set. There, a team lead or something saw me and panicked, called for a manager, and told to put the set back. I showed them my receipt, they reluctantly said ok, and I walked away. What are they gonna do? Sue me for shopping there and buying something that was literally in the middle of an aisle?!😂
The only thing I like more in the 2017 version is that the cockpit has a dip so it looks like Master Yoda is sitting down since he can't bend his legs. 🪑
2017>2023 I have the old version and it still looks better even though a little imprecise but I like it just because it resembles a Tie interceptor because of the wings I have this version so I don't think I need this version and honestly I think Lego should focus on better ideas like a V-19 torrent or a V-wing Starfighter because the Bad Batch managed to bring it back on screen
the 4 dollars are the back print r2d2 ? I just got it and feel ..... In this day, thet are not getting cheaper, all said and down. Should cost 29.99 us
Just did an inflation calculation and now $25 in 2017 dollars is $31.58 today so with inflation only getting worse the cost is getting closer and closer together
I don’t have the old one, I am looking forward to this new one, however if I did own the old, i would be disappointed, it looks almost the same!! (For the ones who own the older model do you notice huge differences)?
This is the most worthless set of the year in my opinion. There is almost nothing new or improved from the last one. Definitely could've had something better than this for the year
I Was Gonna Say Im Gonna Buy 2, But Seeing How You Blasted Through The Minifigure Comparison Only To Stretch The Video Out To 8 Minutes... Only The Best Am I Right
I think $30 would have been a fair price in today's market, but I will be picking this up eventually only because I wasn't back in on LEGO 6 yrs ago so I missed out on this one initially.
As someone who got back into Lego last year and doesn't have the old one, I will pick 1 up for the collection. A 3rd minifig would have been really nice tho
I did a short 10 second clip about the Republic Gunship on TT and Lego gave it a strike and I got banned LOL. Yet, the TT app is filled with similar videos.
Great video! But I disagree with your comment on the whole "it's now 4 bucks more that's about it" on the basis for international buyers because international buyers will get screwed further from this. Where I live (Singapore), I remember this set being about only 49SGD back in 2017 when it was like 25USD (this was even with the horrible exchange rate of 1USD-1.46SGD) now it's a whopping 65 Dollars if I were to go to the stores and buy one (47.70 USD). Much more than the 35USD cost. Even if you adjust the price of the 2017 to SG's inflation rate it'd only be about 55-56 dollars at best. 56 to 65 is a pretty hefty jump considering there is no new addition in terms of minifigures or whatnot. This applies the same to the Snub Pirate fighter as well. Whatever "medium tier" lego sets they are releasing right now are just expensive to the point that you rather spend slightly more and get something like the X wing starfighter or the N1 etc
I missed out on the 2017 version. I mean I'm not into LEGO myself but I thought the set look "cute"! Yes I did watched the show and I know it's accurate to that Yoda episode. So now I got another chance to buy this new version of it!
I had the old one as a kid and loved it , it disappeared into a bin and haven’t found it since , so I’m glad to have it again plus I got for like 20 something bucks
Yeah but during the review I couldn't even tell them apart unless you named them while touching them . . . I am very disappointed in this set. (I t DOES look better, but it should have been something else.
If you have the old build the new one is pointless. I can’t really understand the point of bringing out something so similar. I suppose it helps if you don’t want to buy the retired model but still. Give it an extra fig or something to make it worth the ‘upgrade’.
I was disappointed when they made this set again it’s weird😑 and they could’ve made a new phase one clone battle pack but we ended up with a more accurate yodas jedi star fighter
The 2017 set was the set that got me back into Lego as my parents bought it as a birthday gift for me in 2020 due to the lockdown. Never looked away from Lego since
I think they made this cause they didn't want to make a episode 3 Jedi star fighter of any other character since they made one like 7 years ago of yoda so they just copied and pasted it into 2023
I deff don't like it the first one was way way better ans what all they did was fix the wind screen that was pretty much it and to me the original one looked way better based off the sizes of it all if you didn't have the first one than of course its a good buy but if you do than there is no reason to go out and buy the 2nd one what so ever the wind screen isn't worth it and like I said the size diff on everything looks off vs the original to me looked way way better compared to the show version
If you have the OLD Yoda's Starfighter, will you be upgrading?
Not really worth it
No because I could buy 2 332nd battle packs instead
I don’t think so because I regretted buying the 2017 model in the first place
Not a chance

I think the older one looks way nicer. I think it’s because of the size, so the proportions look nicer in general
I love the girth of the original one. I will probably get that window piece though as a replacement because it looks pretty nice.

Ryan, why not just clip the lightsaber by the blade instead of the handle. That way it will be centralized and maybe improve display ability
I just think landing gear would have gone a long way on both models.
