So for anyone that does not like mounting Yoda's weapon on the back of the craft for storage, you can have Yoda hold his lightsaber hilt in the cockpit and then place the green blade on the clip on the back of the craft. This won't ruin the symmetry of the craft. You can also imagine the green blade piece just being some type of energy effect. I think you can also just toss the hilt in the cockpit without Yoda holding (there should be room) if you prefer him to look empty handed.
The fact that this set got remade sooner than some of the older jedi starfighters and jedi interceptors just confuses me, but it's seems to be a fun little set
I do kinda miss the really old Yoda mold where his head looked like just a sand green blob, same with the rest of their star wars character molds, but I suppose this is better
You know those Lego star wars sets that have old og Minifigures and a print on the back? I think they should make that old Yoda with the printing, but that'll be a lil bit problematic, the old Yoda with sand green head mold was nostalgia ngl.
Honestly the mold doesn't look that different from the OG. Obviously the biggest difference is the inclusion of eye printing, but the shape, the wrinkles, the ears etc look the same
Personally I'm starting to wish they'd do alien heads more like they did the Navi heads for the Avatar sets, ie: regular minifig heads with some small modifications. Like so say for a Rodian, instead of having fully molded head, it would look like a regular minifig head, but with a chin similar to the Navi heads for the snout and then the mouth and eyes would be printed on. The antenna would be their own piece that sits on top of the head, similar to the Zabrak horns/Black Panther ears. That way you could do things like make Rodian rebel pilots.
This really brought together my Prequel trilogy fleet. Just want one more Aethersprite to re-color and a few non-r2dt astromechs and they'll be perfect to hang.
Judging from the onscreen pictures from the show, r2 looks to sit accurately in the starfighter. His "shoulders" are just a tad above the edge of the canopy in the pictures and in the model.
It's good. A little too early for it after 2017, but it is a definite improvement with accuracy. The only thing that is "wrong" with it is R2 sitting up too high. Other than that it is pretty well done. Technic pins being more hidden is a definite improvement as well.
To be honest, comparing it to the rendered version from the Clone Wars, it looks quite a bit more accurate to the source material than the 2017 version. I do agree that it’s quite recent after the 2017 one for a niche design.
I will never complain about an affordable jedi starfighter set. I'm not a huge Star Wars fan but I really like these kinds of builds. I've been starting a bit of a collection with them and I think I'm getting this one as welll.
To answer your pondering Jang, Yaddle never had one of these starfighters. Her life was ended (UA-cam won’t let me use the k word apparently?) by Dooku between episodes 1 and 2, as seen in Tales of the Jedi. Her death was the last step to ensure Dooku’s turn to the dark side. But then again, there were SO MANY Jedi we never got to see, maybe Yoda’s starfighter model was one of many for many of the smaller species? Perhaps there were Jedi of smaller species such as Anzellan Jedi or Ugnaught Jedi? Heck, even Legends had a Jawa Jedi. Or maybe Yoda’s was a prototype?
I disagree that it's a stretch for Yoda to have his own unique ship model made, he is the grand master after all. But I do also like your idea that Yaddle had one, maybe all small Jedi had one
I think it's important to put it into the perspective of Lego Star Wars. It lives in its own pocket with its own value, unfortunately not comparable to other Lego themes at this point. People are not expecting the same value from a Ninjago set as a Star Wars set, for example.
The problem I have is that the lightsaber is stored on the back outside of the ship, which just looks silly instead of it being tucked away in a compartment.
it's a decent build with good minifigures, but waiting until my local Walmart discounted it to $28 really helped with the price aspect. I recommend waiting for a sale for this set
Yes, a more realistic choice for Yoda would have been a customized version of Anakin's Jedi Starfighter, IMHO one of the best small combat spaceship designs within Star Wars and beyond. Yoda's bespoke tiny craft is nice as well, though.
I'm gonna pick this up just to complete my Jedi starfighter collection I have both versions of Anakin and Obi wans (starfighter and interceptor) and this is a cute little set
My only complaint (and this might be minor considering it might be for the structure) is that the cockpit sits a little high compared to the wings. Just makes it look a little goofy or less aerodynamic.
The fact this comes with the new R2-D2 with back printing makes this a set to buy, but as its' £30 i may have to wait cant justify spending 30 on this with other sets being better value at that price i could even get 2 speed champions cars for around that but as I passed on the 2017 one i think this would make a fine addition to my collection alongside Anakin's Jedi interceptor so i'll get it on sale. I just hope they do Obi-Wan's next or more from TCW series.
I don't know about the rest of y'all, but I don't trust Yoda with a starfighter. It's like letting your geriatric grandpa drive your F-150, it's just not a good mix.
good review, thanks for showing it off! i think this set looks rly good rly fun, i'm probably gonna end up picking it up :) i think for the lightsaber holder itd work good for displays if you put the hilt in there, but put the blade on the end of one of the cannons, make it look like its firing. otherwise if it bothers someone so much for a display, mod a regular plate in there instead in the canonical use for a smaller framed fighter like this, i do think it makes sense. there are other shorter species, like ughnauts or jawas and probably more that i'm forgetting atm, that could fit and use a fighter like this. of course yoda got the first fighter in this class, but maybe there were more young jedi in training that were expected to not grow much taller than yoda speaking of, theres that new Young Jedi show on disney junior that has yoda as the starring mentor, i feel like thats part of why we're getting a couple yoda-centric sets now also, i always loved how these fighter designs are like an in between of tie fighters and the starships used in attack of the clones. its downright eerie that even yoda has one
funny that you should mention how you think its funny that Yoda gets his own dedicated starfighter, because Battlefront II (2017) just gave him a regular Eta-2 but that aside, I do think it makes sense to have a smaller craft, there are numerous species which are smaller than the typical humanoid body, so of course the Jedi would have something to accommodate them
It's more accurate, a cheaper way to get deluxe R2, and I like the exclusive windscreen vs the original's TIE canopy, but some force priestesses would've been nice. Odd that they went for a remake though, instead of something new like Rex's Y-wing
I feel like lego star wars fans, like all star wars fans, will complain about any and every thing at this point. As a lifelong fan that actually likes to enjoy things, I find this cute and will get it once the price drops to something more reasonable. Also r2-d2 getting back printing in like every set now is pretty great. Thank you for the great review!
I like to say that “nobody hates LEGO Star Wars more than LEGO Star Wars fans” - you will never hear people who more loudly complain about the theme than the hyper-fans on UA-cam who declare every single set a personal, direct insult to them from LEGO and evidence that the company is rapidly declining in relevance. It’s weird to devote so much time and energy to hating a toy like this but it must be lucrative.
@@Wyattporter I completely agree with everything you said, it's part of the reason why Jang is one of the few lego reviewers I like watching. I can't stand the constant negativity.
I'm surprised they didn't copy the technique for Frodo so Yoda can ''sit'' in the Starfighter. I suppose it'd be pretty easy to buy the parts, but just an observation there. The canopy piece looks beautiful, I wonder if they'll use that for TIE Fighters in the future.
Ive been collecting lego for 25 years. Thats a $20 set if I even seen one. A decent small build with 2 figures. Thats always been $20. Stop trying to make $35, $20 lego. Its not going to happen (at least for me)
I understand proces have to rise eventually but £30 seems excessive £25 would be more reasonable will probably be on sale for about £20 in a few months anyway
This set is decent even when compared to the original Yoda’s starfighter. I do agree that the price should be at least 20-25usd but 30usd is fine in today’s economy. In universe I could see different types of ETA-2s & Delta 7bs since Jedi come in all forms of shapes & sizes that aren’t closely similar to humans.
yeah wouldn't in universe it make more sense to just literally design a new seat and call it a day?? haha I don't understand why it has to be so chibi. It's not a bad little thing though I like it alot. The old jedi interceptors are one of my favorite ship designs.
i really like the look of the set and hope i can get it soon! im relatively new to lego starwars and have neither of the minifigures so i wont have troubles with duplicates!
I think R2 is sticking way to far out. Lego should find a way so you just put the head of an astromech droid instead of the whole thing and there would be more room in the ship.
Yoda's starfighter doesn't really...have an official designation, at least as far as I can find. Wookieepedia just refers to it as a "modified Jedi starfighter" and doesn't give it an exact model, though they do note its obvious similarities to the standard Eta-2.
In my opinion it is a very useless remeke because it is not a very remembered ship and the 2017 version can still be considered a surprise by Lego but for having made an obscure vehicle but I think if Had the inclusion of Darth Bane and his tomb I think it would be worth it because a lot of people buy because of him the same thing happens with Obi Wan jedi starfighter with the inclusion of Kaminian
It looks cute. When it grows up it might become a Tie Interceptor.
35 dollars. Lego inflation is worse than the economy itself 🥲.

I myself wish they'd make a new Gamorrean mold. It's been a while since the last one came out.
Honestly the mold doesn't look that different from the OG. Obviously the biggest difference is the inclusion of eye printing, but the shape, the wrinkles, the ears etc look the same

R2’s gotta hold on TIGHT! 😂
I love the idea of the most respected and influential Jedi having to use a booster seat 🤣
$35 is wild. Seems like from now on I'll be picking up most of my lego sets a year later on sale lol

Should be $25usd max
Back in the day this would be 20 bucks and you’d find the 25 dollar one at premium retailers. LEGO is crazy now.
I agree but there’s the tax Lego has with LucasFilm & then there’s inflation to.
I personally am a fan of this set
That Yoda ship in clone wars looks so cramped even for a Yoda! O,O
I honestly like this set a lot, never did pick it up back in 2017.
I disagree that it's a stretch for Yoda to have his own unique ship model made, he is the grand master after all. But I do also like your idea that Yaddle had one, maybe all small Jedi had one
The R2 head is still a tiny bit wonky, but I think it’s possibly one of the best R2 head prints Jang has ever featured in a review.
That particular Lightsaber, looks incredible in my display when the fading LED's hit the right colors :)
Nah jang this is worth $20 at most.
you value 2 city vehichles with figs at around $20 usually, this is about that in substance if not less.
I think it's important to put it into the perspective of Lego Star Wars. It lives in its own pocket with its own value, unfortunately not comparable to other Lego themes at this point. People are not expecting the same value from a Ninjago set as a Star Wars set, for example.
This set's at least $5 too expensive. The only thing that would have justified it is an extra exclusive minifigure.
I really like when lego does sets nobody was asking for like this or the sandspeeder or the quadjumper
I don’t know man I still personally feel that this set doesn’t need to exists. I think they should of given it 3 or 4 more years before remaking
The problem I have is that the lightsaber is stored on the back outside of the ship, which just looks silly instead of it being tucked away in a compartment.

I also tend to like the first version better myself, but at least, it's not terrible looking.

Yaddle died pretty much right after the end of The Phantom Menace so she definitely didnt get a chance to fly one of those :D
